Rob Scallon Primus came to Burlington VT this Thursday and I got to see them, not only did I get to see my favorite band and my idol live in concert but it was my first concert period. I don't think I've had a more life changing experience
For those unaware, this album is based on a children's book The Rainbow Goblins by Ul de Rico. The Japanese musician Masayoshi Takanaka also made 2 whole amazing albums based on this, The Rainbow Goblins and the sequel The White Goblin. Highly recommended.
Evan Gipson because they got less so in their (as of now current) midpoint and needed to re-center. Well, they missed the re-centering and just slingshot along the whole universe. This is an epic thing, actually.
Martin Aillón You can count it in both ways, I tend to count in longer bars basically because it feels more natural sometimes, such as this song, but again, it's just me, it can be counted in 7/8 of course, but to me 7/4 feels more natural
I wonder if the theme has anything to do with The Rainbow Goblins by Ul De Rico. It was a children's book about goblins that steal/try to steal the colors from the rainbow.
Ryan Holland Oh? I've only ever read about the book and seen some images on Google. I've looked for it too (in antiquarian bookstores) with no luck. I could order from abebooks or eBay, but I like to touch books first. Anyways, that's awesome!
I'd agree to disagree. If you listen to songs like my name is mud and tommy the cat, especially live, you can hear he gets some pretty cool riffs and some intricate, long solos.
I don't think most people, even most musicians and music aficionados, really appreciate what an utterly unique creative genius Les Claypool is. I've gone through so many phases in my musical tastes over the past 30 years, yet Primus is the only one I consistently listened to and never got tired of. He is at the pinnacle of his instrument, and so unique that he is his own freaking genre. I can't think of anyone who comes close. This album can't be released soon enough...
Long Live Primus. With all the bands that have come and gone since the 90's. Primus is still here and still kicking as much ass as ever. So glad these three are still together
I fucking love it. Primus is still crafting original tunes in 2017. Impressive as hell. Keep it up dudes! One of the best bands that ever lived, in studio and without. Thanks for still making new jams!
I've gotta hand it to Primus, this is, imo, the best album they ever made. The King Crimson influence is very obvious, but it's still clearly a Primus' album. And I'm a King Crimson fan, so it's a very welcome change to me.
This is one of the weirdest bands ever, I just started to listen to them and their style is very intriguing and slightly creepy. It's cool to see them still making music.
Primus is the reason i ever got into music and picked up a Bass, Growing up in a Christian school and a strict christian home, sneaking away to listen to Primus and the beatles albums that my older brother had. So glad to of gotten to see them live and on acid, thanks to my wife for a birthday present
I'm using this video as a reason to to go bed. I can't watch it until I get up tomorrow morning, and I want to be well rested in order to enjoy it fully.
Seen them play this live in London in Jun. Devastating concert. Very chuffed at the prospect of a new album. Still maximising the ownage after nearly 35 years. :D
Oh hell yes!!! Finally a new Primus song I like from the beginning all the way through. The music sound is just like classic Rush. Love this song and can't wait for the new album! Already got my ticket for November!
Ok, here's the quiz of the day; Which sucks more? A) Primus B) People who react to A C) People who say "the band dropped it, it's not used anymore blablabla" I'm a classical person, so I go with C. A will be valid forever. As for B, there are always people who doesnt know the beginning or development of a story. We call them "mass public".
I can already tell this album is going to capture that old school primus vibe I've been missing in the more recent records. Though they do still tickle my fancy so, they didn't give me that same primus feel from the 90s
Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet These are the colors of the seven When a rainbow catches their eye, they lure and beguile it These are the desaturating seven [?] The desaturating seven The desaturating seven Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet These are the desaturating seven Well the grandeur of the world, they abuse and defile it These are the desaturating seven They fill their mouths with green and take way more then they need Ha ho, the desaturating seven They're going to prowl and prey, til the world is dark and grey Because they are the desaturating seven [?] The desaturating seven The desaturating seven Oooh, desaturating seven
This is awesome! This sounds like classic Primus, circa Frizzle Fry / Seas of Cheese. I think playing with Herb brings something out of Les that it doesn't with other drummers. A lot of the tracks he did with Brain and Jay Lane on the Primus releases kind of fell into formula/a holding pattern: funky bass riff with Charlie-Daniels-from-hell singing, repeat riff but louder for chorus, then a slight variation for the bridge, then repeat the now tired riff. It often seemed repetitive, but this has some nice variation!

Sickest day of my life when it comes to bands seeing primus live in Melbourne years and and years after seeing Jeremy the race car driver for the first time as a young kid loved them and Les since hopefully I’ll get too see them and many others soon
Primus is back. I can't stop listening to this song. The only album I've ever been disappointed with in Les's discography was Green Naugahyde, and that was Primus's comeback album.. so I'm ecstatic that this album is about to come out and that the Claypool Lennon Delirium is so good.
I think both The Claypool Lennon Delirium and this new Primus benefit from an evolved Claypool sound, honestly. You can hear it coming out in Primus and the Chocolate Factory.
Agreed, the chocolate factory album really kickstarted this new sound. It was a little present in Green naughehyde, but chocolate factory really cemented it
I saw them play this live twice at the first 2 shows of their tour with Clutch in NC. I can't wait to see them play this entire new album in Clearwater in November.
Even though it's decades after, I'll always group Primus in with the prog rock greats of the 70's... Rush, Yes, King Crimson, ELP It just makes so much sense (to me) to think of the band that way. And it holds up to the same standards
This band is the reason I wanted to make music videos for a living.
Rob Scallon Fancy meeting you here. Not like you know who I am. (Please check out my cover of this song)
Rob Scallon Primus came to Burlington VT this Thursday and I got to see them, not only did I get to see my favorite band and my idol live in concert but it was my first concert period. I don't think I've had a more life changing experience
Rob Scallon hey what's up
What up Rob. Do a Primus melody.
Mad respect for you from that man. Primus is most certainly where it's at. If you babem already you need to dive into Ween
Primus is a prime example of not taking yourself so seriously. But be serious about excelling at your instrument.
"take it easy man, but TAKE IT!!!" - Terence McKenna
I would love to visit the home planet of the Primus one day.
Your on it now🌈
Tbh it sucks 🤘

@@paulsarnik4195 To me they have always sounded like that they are are from completely different world.

Fuck yeah man love that album
The mastering on this album is unreal. Everything’s balanced so well.
Holy shit. They are getting more Primus as they age... how?!
They're influencing themselves.
Lol
Evan Gipson because they got less so in their (as of now current) midpoint and needed to re-center. Well, they missed the re-centering and just slingshot along the whole universe.
This is an epic thing, actually.
@ex0r exactly
Drugs do that
This is a perfect mix of old and new sound. Well done Primus, you've caught me again
Of course in a song called Seven the chorus is in 7/4 lol
Andrea Capone Braga. Thank you for counting
My pleasure
7/8 ;)
7/8

Only listened to it twice and yet I can remember the whole way through.
The mark of a truly good song
I wonder if the theme has anything to do with The Rainbow Goblins by Ul De Rico. It was a children's book about goblins that steal/try to steal the colors from the rainbow.
That's what the artwork is from
Ryan Holland Oh? I've only ever read about the book and seen some images on Google. I've looked for it too (in antiquarian bookstores) with no luck. I could order from abebooks or eBay, but I like to touch books first.
Anyways, that's awesome!
Justin Wolz According to his interviews, the book forms the basis for the entire new album. Check out the Rolling Stone interview.
VFR700F2 I heard les say it was based on the Norwegian film 'the troll hunter'. It's on the beginning of a live video of this song
Yep it does. That book was the inspiration for the album. Look it up.
larry lalonde once again proving he is one, if not, the most underapreaciated guitarist of the last 20 years
asdf852asdf totally agree
asdf852asdf in a band like primus, obviously the guitarist will be the under appreciated
I'd agree to disagree. If you listen to songs like my name is mud and tommy the cat, especially live, you can hear he gets some pretty cool riffs and some intricate, long solos.
Same thing happens with Alex Lifeson, when you have one of best bassists and drummers guitar players tend to lose attention.
Is this a meme now
Wake up with that notification, Best youtube notification ever.
Agreed, and an email about the new album also made my day!
Best bass guitarist in the history of music

This is really proggy for Primus.
Half of their discography is prog lmao
This is the best thing I have heard from Primus since the Animals Should Not Try To Act Like People EP
Does anyone else hear King Crimson towards the end of the song?
Fez Crespin totally
A "Fracture" vibe on the guitar!
Rush too
The ending was particularly sucky.
VERY Krimson-y. Could've come from the 73-74 period very easily - whiffs of Larks' Tongues and Fracture.
I wish my brother was around to hear this. Primus are still pioneers 😁 Like Rush on acid!!!
This is dope
I didn't expect them to make new music I hope they do something like Mr krinkle

Sounds like early 80's King Crimson. I like it a lot.
Let's be honest you can hear Discipline in almost every piece of music Claypool's ever done. (And it was no secret he was a King Crimson fan either!)
I hear THRAK. plus a touch of Rush [as noted elsewhere]. Still great though. Music to my ears!
it definitely references Frame by Frame at one point
Les said Crimson was a huge influence for this album specifically
It's pretty mesmerizing
