I think you missed the importance of the "evil or demon" voice on the everything within part. Calls out the (in a heavy metal kind of tradition) the evil part in all of us and commands us to praise his holy name forever. It is awesome and planned out.
Mortius- Dan seems to always use his vocals with a purpose! He went metal high note on “ all oppression shall cease” then “ let all within us ( growl/ quake) praise His Holy Name!” - every demon/ sin , even those within us will tremble and praise Him! 😊
"O Holy Night" has been all over my RUclips recommendations, this year. Not just covers, but also videos of pastors explaining the theology of the lyrics. For whatever reason, it seems to be the carol of 2023. I really like how he saved the hard-hitting punk energy for the line "All Oppression shall Cease." That's not a line to take lightly.
I noticed the same thing. I love how Dan puts emphasis on lines with his vocal styles. “ all oppression shall cease” and “ let all within us (growl / quake) praise His Holy Name!” Like even the sin within us trembles and knows to praise Him!
@@Christine-hl4rlI love the way you so eloquently describe/explain the growl/quake. So many people either don’t understand it or they misinterpret it. I think it’s absolutely glorious!! I LOVE them all, but O Holy Night is my favorite Dan Vasc performance!
Dan is brilliant. He could get a nonbeliever to go to church! This is my absolute favorite. I love death metal! I have waited so long for a vocalist to tear into a song like this and make magic! Dan is officially my new favorite thing.
Your review was so worth the wait! Thank you for diving deep! 1st: Victor the guitar nerd has his own channel. He presented a beautiful & sensitive Silent Night to us this Christmas. Be sure to check out his playlist, too. He has a folder for his lovely chill/calm songs (many originals). 2nd: Before Dan I appreciated the beauty of this song, but I never actually *listened* to what the words meant. Extraordinary! Loved your feedback!!
You are one of the few reactors to point out his use of vibrato on those notes in the first chorus. "Worth" and "World" most notably. It's a beautiful touch and brings a lot of life to the song.
Agreed! It's like the others were all hyped out on the edge of their seats waiting for their own expectations, which made them miss most of the awesomeness right before them. But they all (most) loved it, despite their wayward imaginings.
Thank you for your enthusiastic reaction😊 The last verse with all the “jumping” is not a coinsidence. Try listening to it again 😉 I find that he truly is an artist painting with his vocal tecnics to get the message to reach a deeper level. The growl at “let all within us” made me jump the first time I heard it, but it makes perfect sence. For me this is no longer just a Christmas song, it is a momentous statement. 🌟💪🥰
So many people stop thinking about the lyrics to songs they've heard hundreds of times, so end up missing these patterns. The song's meaning gets lost behind nostalgia and emotional resonance. I really like that Dan (and Victor) placed these changes as it's gotten people to talk about the meaning of the song's substance more than any other rendition I've seen reactions to, if at least in the comments sections. May this also be a lesson to reactors to go back to the moments that make them question a choice in the arrangement to think through why the artist may have chosen it and not just leave it at a difference in taste. I feel like it lessens any analysis to gloss over a critique, and every single reaction to this song that I've seen with a critique (the same one) has done this.
Agreed too many reactors are just waiting for the big moment and not taking in the meaning of the song or the artists interpretation. I think Dan and Victor have chosen carefully and with intention the arrangement, voice and use of different musical styles to express their message. This song is no longer just a Christmas Song it is an anthem. Often times most people are put off my genius and change. It takes time for some to understand. If they wanted the vanilla version of the song then Dan is probably not their choice.
My whole family "got" his emphasis on several phrases just by his projection and power! Especially, "all within us" praise his Holy name with the double kick and rattle. 😃 Think country on the second section leading off with Victor's country rock guitar and Dan's falsetto "gospel is peace." Every time I listen to it (over and over) something else pulses forward. Thanks,🍾🍷🥂 and Happy New Year!!!
Thank you for the great reaction to this epic song! On first listen, I was taken aback too. But I listened again (and again) and took in the words as he was singing certain parts and it all started to make sense. Now this has become one of my favorites. 😊 ❤
Now that I’ve watched your reaction, I have to say that I agree with exactly what you said! I felt the same way when I watched it for the first time. Amazing Grace was when I first discovered him so I can’t help that the bar is so high because of that. That being said, this was still amazing and he has unmatched talent in my opinion. You can tell he has put many years of hard work into his voice. So many things that stand out about his performances. Perfect way to end 2023! 👏🏻
Mortius, this is an extraordinary rendition. Dan and Victor did an incredible job together. So powerful, energizing and extremely beautiful and mesmerizing. The best version of this christmas song I've ever heard. I really enjoyed your reaction. That's surely a great way to end this year. Thanks. Happy New Year.
Thank you so much for your analysis of how he excels in doing the vowels and his ability to articulate when he sings. A non-singer just doesn't understand the ability it takes to do this. Welcome to the phenomenon that is Victor the Guitar Nerd. I love Dan's higher registers but sometimes crave his lower registers and in this one he does not disappoint. "His law is love;" awesome. It feels to me that what happened that night is often portrayed as a pretty little fairy tale; Dan and Victor do not leave that option open for us. Dan's vocals emphasize that it was the Lord of Heaven and Earth and Eternity born that night. "Let all within in us praise His Holy Name!" That's the way to sing "Christ is the Lord!" Like an earthquake! These two geniuses! Merry Christmas, Joyeux Noel, Feliz Natal, Feliz Navidad, Buon Natale, God Jul!
I’m so glad you enjoyed that aspect of the analysis so much! I was worried I went too deep into that part 😅 Thank you for your comment, support, and insights!
@@officialmortius I'm a non-singer (come on, I sing in the shower, like everybody! 😁), but I used to learn piano (5 years in a music school, in the 80's). Huge Dan fan here and while I love this cover, I would absolutely find it fascinating for you to listen and break down Dan performing Puccini’s Nessun Dorma. I’m a metal head but grew up listening to classical and opera. I thought Dan did an exceptional job with Nessun Dorma. Also, his Gethsemane from Jesus Christ Superstar was incredible. He performed that as if he was singing on Broadway. VascNation!!!
For sure, Dan snd Victor had a specific intention with their powerful regeneration of Oh Holy Night. Lots of controversy from one time listeners everywhere regarding the vocal fry earthquake! It absolutely requires more than one listen to understand and fully absorb the passionate exaltation of Christ which is what this song should always have been about. Dan and Victor were simply brilliant! As was this reaction. Really enjoyed your excited and animated analyses, added so much enjoyment! Even vowel sounds became exhilarating! You made me laugh quite a bit. I admire honest opinions and it may be that you approached this rendition with a highly trained ear for how it should ‘be”. I approached it emotionally. What I perceived as passion and power, you may have thought chaotic and gimmicky. Just MHO. This is still one of my favored reactions to Dan’s Oh Holy Night, simply for the exuberance! Loved it, thank you! 😊❤
Victor the Guitar Nerd is fabulous. He's from Sweden and this year became a member of the metal band Eleine. Victor often teams up with Dan, and the two make gold. This song took me many viewings to fully appreciate Dan's vision. Once I got it, I started to like it. Each time I hear it, it gets better. The growl was off-putting until I realized the "all within us" represented the evil that will also praise His holy name. Every knee shall bow, every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. I could see that you had the same reaction there as I did. If you listen again, several times, you should start to enjoy this version. Many of us had the same issues, and it seems most of us have had a change of heart. Thanks for another great reaction. I hope you'll react to many more DV videos in 2024. Happy New Year!
Yes a lot of people misinterpret his growl in this song but you said what it means perfectly. I absolutely love his cover of this and I have played it over thirty times so far lol. Also, he's reaching a metal audience as well and it's nice that they can see the love he has for our Creator 💕✨
Thanks for your reaction, Mortius. I felt exactly the same as you did about the ”jumpiness” the first time I heard this. But I urge you to listen to it a few more times, it will grow on you, I promise! Happy New Year! ❤️
You really, really, really should do Dan's version of Burn Butcher Burn. It will floor you❤❤❤ Forget it is from the Witcher, it is some of his best work ever❤
Great reaction. I absolutely love his cover of this song. I did like the way he changed it up because I was totally shocked by the power that came out of nowhere. It was like a blast of Holy Spirit hit me. The way he sang the words of this song truly matched the meaning of it. I'm not sure if you have already reacted to Dan's performance of Angels We Have Heard on High but I highly recommend it. It's so beautiful 💕✨
Also we love hearing u talk vowels haha Dan has blown us all away with his skills and it shows how hard he's worked! I always enjoy the singers and vocals coach reactions the most. Love that ur honest and authentic 🎉🎉🎉🎉

Your reaction to Dan Vasc is not only delightful but informative too! ❤I subbed on your very first reaction to Dan Vasc doing Dan Vasc things to music re: Amazing Grace. Reactors have discovered that when they do a Dan Vasc reaction Vasc-nation will show up !!! Thank you for that, and do as many of his songs as you like❤
Such an excellent REACTION, I can tell you love the music and I learn something. I see a lot of "reactions" that basically just steal the creators work. Bravo good sir
Hands down - the BEST voice on the planet. Feel him and his music to the depth of my soul. ❤❤ Cannot get enough of him. I know you talk a lot about his vowels and consonants, but what about his breath control? Incredible! Thanks for your critique but sorry, he is a full 10!! Happy New Year!
Thanks for another very insightful reaction to this incredible song (esp your fascinating "vowel explanation" 👍🏼) Perhaps you need to listen to this numerous times, I no longer feel it's as "jumpy" after watching it close to 100 times!!😂...& I think you're right, Dan & Victor don't want their work & creations to just be "cookie cutter" versions. Hope you do lots more Dan Vasc in 2024 😍
I've seen several of these clips Analyzing his voice. You were fantastic! You have made me smile laugh and d*** near Cry. I love you and I'm gonna be watching you from now on. I got through the Growl Because of the words he used. All that is Within us. There's a little demon in all of us. And even it can be compelled to praise his holy name. Lord knows I'm no saint. But amazing grace Brought my souls to its knees. in a way that Gave me back my love for music, And I had lost it. And brought me closer to my Lord. What kind of voice can do that? He sings like an angel. He screams like a Demon, and looks like a Viking Lord. You did a great job covering it. Keep on a rockin me, baby.
A miracle was born. Diligence, perseverance, study and very hard work. Then all of a sudden he kicked in RUclips's door and everyone is talking about him!!! Your star is rising higher and higher! You are a fantastic guy! It's fucking good!!!/ sorry/
Thanks, Mortius, for the reaction and analysis. I did feel that Dan threw an awful lot into this song, and some of it did perplex me, but once he shifted up, his brilliant voice and real passion carried the day. My favorite of his Christmas songs remains Angels We Have Heard on High. Joyous and gorgeous. Try Burn Butcher Burn for a real tour-de- force of singing and acting. All the Witcher covers are great. For a video that feels like a stage performance, try either The Music of the Night or Gethsemane from Jesus Christ Superstar. (The latter is gut wrenching and heartbreaking.) Both have great singing. Hoping for more Dan in 2024. Subbed. Happy New Year!
When my sister (a retired Viennese opera singer) listened to Dan Vasc for the first time, she noted that he had some operatic training. The “tells”: his posture, his breath control, and his control & use of vowel pronunciation.
Happy New Year.. this is a magnificent rendition, all of Dan's 'special voices ' have been used to great effect to highlight single words or phrases, to awaken the darkness within and to Loudly and Proudly Praise and Glorify.. I play this several times a day this gets me through pain, discomfort and empowers me to push myself through them.. 71 year old metal head in cold and wet UK, slightly disabled.. but can now head bang through this, not as I used to of course but yeah I dance like no ones watching and head bang that way too 🤣 thought it disrespectful at first. Absolutely genius on production, Victor is stupendous all in all the best version ever.
A great reaction/analysis to a great song done by a great performer. What a way to end the year! Thank you for an enjoyable 2023. Looking forward to what you have in store in 2024 for us. May you and the extended family (including Mason!) all have a safe and Happy New Year!!

Loved hearing your reaction. You bring out interesting points. You have had the best reaction I’ve seen so far. Its so powerful from the growl further. Love it. Thank you for reaching. ❤
Dan did a great job on this, although it's not my favorite of his work. But your reaction was, as always, so perfect. You take so much joy in what you do that it's contagious!
You gave me a laughing asthma attack when he did that yodel bit 😂 I knew from the cold open this was going to be a fun reaction but I was not prepared! Happy New Year Mortius!
Brilliant reaction. This is a masterpiece of interpretation by Dan and Victor. Every change is a celebration of triumph for the birth of Christ. Cannot get this version out of my head. It is now my favourite carol, whilst perviously it was never on my radar. Thank you for your quality input re Dans voice. Love seeing where Dan and Victors musicality goes from here. Happy New Year to you 😊
Wow - just love your reactions! I feel like I learn so much about singing and music from you!!! This really helps me understand why I love Dan's voice and skills!
It was the Christmas present that Dan's followers had been waiting for - with the eagerness of a child on Eve. It was worth the wait!! I am still impacted by the power with which these very necessary words were packaged... There is a LOT of Light being moved there - perhaps as much as there is in Daniel's "Amazing Grace" version; the difference is that all this Light now came in the form of a STORM. Daniel brought us thunderstorms of chaos and destruction to draw our attention to the most important event in the History of Humanity. He really brought us the storm!! And this washed our soul... And we just have to thank him. 🥹 Thank you very much for you excelent reaction. Hugs from Curitiba - Brazil.🇧🇷
Mortius, I appreciate your analysis of Dan's O Holy Night. I learned a little more about him and his skill. I agree with @Olinda-og6oz about the growl. It was unexpected, but does fit in there. He is a Power Metal singer. How he finished and wrapped up the song was powerful. I find that I am holding my breath at the end of a few of his power endings.
Know it's not your genre but Victor the guitar nerd features in "Number Of The Beast" he released at Halloween. It was so close to the original that RUclips briefly blocked the video.
Though this is New Years Eve, I recommend a reaction to last year's song, Adeste Fideleles, (O Come All Ye Faithful) by Dan. It is sung, I believe, in Italian, and he really makes it a Power Metal song of praise. Even if you don't react to it, it is worthwhile to listen to. The guitar musician has a great time performing with Dan. Please watch it. HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!
I think his Intonation (is this the right word in english? Sorry, my english is quite bad.) fits perfectly to the content. His first scream is the invotation "and in his name all opression shall cease" and the growling (?) comes with the words "all within us". For me it fits to ALL within us. Not just all our nice characteristics but also all our bad attitudes our shallows, demons and viciousness should praise his holy name. It's not only singing this hymn it's interpreting it.
Your English is great! Honestly, it’s better than many American’s English. But this wasn’t my point. Lol. Your interpretation & explanation of the growl was very poignant. SO WELL SAID!!👏👏👏

I'd like to add a note, which is actually more an opinion than a technical comment, regarding the I sound. Even though both English and Portuguese have that exact same sound in a big chunk of our vocabulary, in Portuguese it is obtained by two vowels, instead of one: ai. So back in our brains, when we think about that sound, we are actually thinking about two separate sounds, which is a mental shortcut to the whole mouth shape analysis you did. Additionally, Portuguese is a very vowel-based language, which makes our pronunciation of the vowels naturally higher then Anglo-Saxon languages speakers. The same goes with Italian, which along with Portuguese, are the Latin languages closer to the original Latin. And of course, singing is a more beautiful way of speaking, so these details add up.
That is interesting because when Dan speaks English the main part of his accent that I hear (I'm British) is his elongated 'rounding' of his vowels. I'm sure that the way Brazilian Portuguese is spoken helps him sing those difficult English vowel sounds.
I enjoyed your reaction. You will see a whole different skill set in Dan if you watch his most recent version of Music of the night from Phantom of the opera. (NOT the duet version.) He sings an incredible version of the song in a perfect classic stage performance way that could be part of any great musical theater performance. His ability to sing other styles of music is amazing.
OK, so you need to look at more Dan Vasc videos, he is very eclectic. He goes from serious, heavy metal to folk songs, and everything in between. Now I have listened to this song many times now, because I’m watching the reaction videos, the first time I listen to it I was really upset, because I don’t like the growl in this song. It’s getting a little easier to hear that growl, however, the rest of the song is perfect. I don’t mind the rest of the song. I love the part with the word peace and Victor is awesome, freaking awesome. So, go listen to more of his music. We’re never gonna like everything that he does, I don’t like all of his music, but I like a lot of it!
I think a lot of people are put off by the growl, which is obviously 100% your prerogative not to like it. I think a lot of people initially misinterpret it. I’m just curious…. have you skimmed through the comments on it, where different people give their interpretation of it? They’re very poignant and thought provoking. They might even change your opinion of it?🤷♀️🤗✨

It was like a blast of Holy Spirit hit me. The way he sang the words of this song truly matched the meaning of it. I'm not sure if you have already reacted to Dan's performance of Angels We Have Heard on High but I highly recommend it. It's so beautiful 💕✨
Victor and Dan are perfect together in this duo. simply sensational tks dear, Happy Holidays🤘🎸🎉🎉✨🎄
Oh my I so enjoyed your reaction to this. Just amazing. My favorite Christmas song thank you!!
Also we love hearing u talk vowels haha Dan has blown us all away with his skills and it shows how hard he's worked! I always enjoy the singers and vocals coach reactions the most. Love that ur honest and authentic 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Can’t wait! Was hoping you would do a reaction to this soon 😊
With Dan and Victor, you know it's coming, but you never know what or when or how many times they are going to lay you out on the floor. The 'POWER' is amazing! Your reaction is great. Dan's always in control. Check out Victor's channel - Victor the Guitar Nerd - his Silent Night and the band he is in Eleine.
Dan is a new favorite of mine. Caught me with his Amazing Grace. Geoff, VP, Avi Kaplan, and now Dan Vasc. Just discovered this world around mid 2023.
HE HAS A WONDERFUL VOICE!!!
I'm one of those that subscribed thanks to Dan, I'm loving your honesty and I agree with your opinion and emotion! So happy that I found your channel, I'm a fan for your energy and will continue looking fwd to what you post! And will do a deep dive in all your previous reactions! 😄🤩😃
Watch his reaction of nothing else matters by voiceplay.
Thank you for that, and do as many of his songs as you like❤
Mortius you have to react to Dan Vasc's Gethesemene. Such raw emotion.
Such an excellent REACTION, I can tell you love the music and I learn something. I see a lot of "reactions" that basically just steal the creators work. Bravo good sir
I love the part when he goes whoaaa right before the guitar solo. Lol. Love it!!!
That’s my favorite part!
@@LHeyden-o6i Hahaha My favorite part too!
Thank you for your awesome reaction and explaining Dan's vocals. Been watching for your reaction. Happy New Years!
Thanks for another very insightful reaction to this incredible song (esp your fascinating "vowel explanation" 👍🏼)
Perhaps you need to listen to this numerous times, I no longer feel it's as "jumpy" after watching it close to 100 times!!😂...& I think you're right, Dan & Victor don't want their work & creations to just be "cookie cutter" versions.
Yes!! I ABSOLUTELY 💯 AGREE❤❤❤️
Great reaction of Dan. This is the best version of O Holy Night I ever heard.
Mortius, great reaction. Please, please, please watch Dan's Music of The Night and Nessun Dorma. You WON'T be disappointed.
Mortius, Victor is Dan’s go to guy for his Ninja Sex Party covers, including ‘Danny don’t you know’
Love your reaction, I've listened to this several times.
The "I's" have it... DAN IS AWESOME!!❤❤❤😂😂😂
PS I love roller-coasters!!
You should check out Dan's Nessun Dorma and Bring Me to Life as an example of what he can do.
I absolutely totally agree. On bring me to life he mentioned that he loves to do covers of songs that were originally saying by women. He has a Playlist On his channel
Mortius you are so fun to watch! You get excited as we do when we watch Dan. Thanks again and Happy New Year!
❤❤❤❤❤ love Dan, love your reaction
He can do it all because he’s perfect 😊
You gave me a laughing asthma attack when he did that yodel bit 😂 I knew from the cold open this was going to be a fun reaction but I was not prepared! Happy New Year Mortius!
Brilliant reaction. This is a masterpiece of interpretation by Dan and Victor. Every change is a celebration of triumph for the birth of Christ.
Cannot get this version out of my head. It is now my favourite carol, whilst perviously it was never on my radar.
Thank you for your quality input re Dans voice.
Love seeing where Dan and Victors musicality goes from here.
Happy New Year to you 😊
You should listen to Oh Holy Night! It’s beautiful!❤
Have a Happy New Year!🎉
Always love your analysis. Thank you so much for sharing your insights and educated opinions with us. All the best!
Thank you very much for you excelent reaction.
Hugs from Curitiba - Brazil.🇧🇷
Love your reactions to Dan Vasc. Watched your other two. Hoping for more. Liked and subscribed. Happy New Year! 🎉
Love your reaction videos. But you have to do more of Dan. If I could choose I would recommend Nessun Dorma.
Great reaction and analysis, thank you!
Your enthusiasm and excitement is so endearing :) Hope you had a nice Christmas or whatever you celebrate, and that you have a good New Year!
Thank you, and to you as well!!
It is sung in Latin❤
Thanks! Just want to say you are historical when you react to Dan. I love watching him also. Much love. Patricia
Simplesmente, uma obra de arte!!!
❤😘
Feliz Ano Novo!!🎉🍾🥂
I feel ya Mortius. It didn't feel as cohesive as his other songs, but still flames! 🔥
Yes!! Absolutely 💯 💯 💯
Your English is great! Honestly, it’s better than many American’s English. But this wasn’t my point. Lol.
Your interpretation & explanation of the growl was very poignant. SO WELL SAID!!👏👏👏
It's funny because the reasons why you didn't give a 10/10 are precisely what I love in this cover. It's quite surprising and I love surprises!
With Dan you learn to expect (and love)the unexpected!!
great reaction , i was looking foward to see your reacting to this O Holly Night by Dan Vasc
Victor is from Sweden
Def nessum dorma,and Gethsemane

Happy New Year, Mortius!!
Thanx for all your reactions, Happy New Years
OK, so you need to look at more Dan Vasc videos, he is very eclectic.
They might even change your opinion of it?🤷♀️🤗✨
@@LHeyden-o6i I’ve gotten use to it now.
I Love your Reactions to Dan, the Only time I come to your channel, so please, more Dan! Would love to see your take on his Vocal Gymnastics on Bring me to Life, from Evanescence!
❤❤Victor is in nearly all his songs, great guitarist as well as the piano
