Recently we attended the World Pistol Shootout in Texas. It was the first time we had shot a pistol match. In preparation, we did a crash course in competition shooting with a couple of grand master USPSA shooters. The results were impressive.
This made my day... enjoyed this - great inside on how competition shooting works. I smiled the whole video - thanks
This was good! I’ve been shooting matches so, I definitely know this is harder than people realize. Great stuff boys.
Thanks bro
100% dude so good catching up the other day love you brother
As a dude who used to be very tactical in how I shot and now shoot competition exclusively, I was so stoked to watch certain things start to click with yall! Good job and keep up the Infinity heavy content haha
You nailed it dude I would say we are “tactical” shooter this competition stuff was great we learned so much and I have a lot to work in to up the “tactical” shit
@Chris Blau hell yeah dude! It was all about mindset that allowed me to transition. Shooting is shooting and competition has increased my proficancy in defensive style shooting alot.
😂😂😂😂 I laughed so hard watching this 😂😂! But honestly proud of you guys! The first competition is always so hard and confusing. Good effort boys!
Guys I thoroughly enjoyed this. As someone who has never shot in a competition style environment, this was really good to see these experienced shooters talk about the sport. Well done!
🍻
Thank you sir we had a good time 👊🏼 appreciate the kind words
As a competitive shooter, this was very entertaining. Good job for taking the challenge and I hope you keep going. 👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you that’s very kind of you to say. We had a blast and everyone at infinity and all the competitors were just awesome
Oh next week we’re showing the actual match we competed in
My Aimpoint Acro has definitely made me shoot faster because my entire body physically cringes when I remember how much I spent on it.
Never seen my trigger finger squeeze faster 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
😂😂😂😂😂
Lol
You guys are better shooters than I thought. I’ve only run 3-4 IDPA’s and 1 USPSA. They are a lot of fun.
Very kind of you to say thank you. Both hake and i accuracy wise did fairly well and I’m not just saying that. As the day progresses we get a little quicker while maintaining the accuracy which is good
This was a fun video guys. I have always wanted to try shooting matches. Living through you guys at the moment.
Go try it bro. No ego at all about it we all went to have fun and learn and train 👊🏼👊🏼
“Oh god, how the fuck do you do that shit” exactly my thoughts when I watch these competition videos
As someone who watches 1911 Syndicates videos, I know their attention spans and listening skills. Now I’m excited to watch 😂
We got to live it live haha.
Bahahahahahah 😂😂😂😂😂
@@rangepanda we appreciate you guys so much
Great video, I'm looking at shooting my first pistol match in 2 years and my first USPSA match ever in June. With luck I'll be able to get some practice in before hand, especially on movement.
I personally have never done this style of shoot but want to try it. It looked like a lot of fun
We had a good time. Recommend it dude it was a blast
Great info! I always have wondered why there are no "B" Zones. 👍👍
Back in paper scoring days there would be ties. Now with electronic scoring its pretty impossible to have ties. Also the perforation created by the B Zone would make heads on the targets sag if you had to bag them for rain.
The more you know 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
Awesome video, very cool to see you guys branching out.
Competition is great for building gun handling and shooting skills something that doesn't get enough respect from the tactical timmys sometimes.
Jake you might have to do it again you were looking good by that third run.
Tactical timmies are usually too prideful to even try to compete.
@@PewPewNomNom Most guys in military special operations and police swat teams shoot competitions frequently. I see SWAT guys at nearly every match I attend. Some of the highest level competitions are literally hosted on military bases. Dunno what you're talking about man.
Competitions are great for actual shooting skills. They're just not good for tactics obviously but that's also not the point of competition so it doesn't matter.
I could see doing a few a year
@@1911syndicate yeah if you get a good local club its a half day event. Its like going out and shooting a few rounds of golf with the buddies.
@Beardly 01 I dont live near a military base and we dont get swat or PD at my local matches. There are also no matches held at military bases anywhere in CA that I have seen on practice score.
I wasnt so much reffering to swat officers or actual serviceman but more of the tacital basement larpers like my buddy for example who refuses to do competition because its a waste of his time and builds bad habits.
Obviously its not good training for tactical applications but for pure shooting and weapon manipulation under stress its good.
Great content. Thanks gentlemen!
Thank you sir we appreciate your support 👊🏼
I love this video. Definitely would like to see more like this
You should shoot some matches here in UT too. They hold them at the Farm pretty often plus we have the UPOA matches twice a year on the cop side which are a ton of fun.
Yeah dude we’ll see if we shoot more I know I plan to shoot some more don’t know about the angry ginger
I’ll probably make it out here and there
Ciguera gear is legit. I have tried 4 other belts and I just kept wanting to wear the Ciguera belt. I now have three of them.
Right? 100% they are great belts and great people. We are happy to be affiliated with them.
🤙🏻
I was laughing at this looks like great fun and the instructors look like great guys
Hey oh, Range Panda! 🤙💯 Great video, gents. Keep it up.
He’s a stud and master shit talker which was a ton of fun
Good on y'all for giving this a try. I think I would get overwhelmed with all the scoring, stage planning, etc. if I tried comp.
Yeah definitely a big part of why it was good man. Lots to remanded do and keep track of
Good stuff! I’ve shot my first two matches this year so really interested in seeing shooters break down the what and why they approach a stage a certain way.
Yeah we definitely need to work on stage planning 😂😂😂
Good to learn from the pros
i just had my first USPSA match over the weekend; I’ve never had so much fun coming in last place (except for the people that DQ’d) lol
I got my stool pushed in by a super senior shooting an XDM my first match.
Right! Hahaha we had a blast man super fun even though we placed very low 😂😂
Great to see you guys get out of your comfort zone ! Once you get the fundamentals of speed down; footwork, shot calling and stage planning , competition is very satisfyingly addictive. I’ve trained and squadded with some top GM’s and it’s always a great experience to see and learn where the outer limits of pistol shooting really is .
Thank you sir we appreciate the comment and kind words. We had a great time and all the guys there were just awesome. 👊🏼👊🏼
🍻
Tonight on 1911 Syndicate: 2 GM's attempt wizardry on Jake and Chris, The Irish Sloth speeds up Slightly, and the AZ Yeti's superior leg reach improves his efficiency in movement......
Lol
@@1911syndicate Much better title for the vid haha
😂😂😂😂😂 superior leg reach hahaha
As a newbie, the best piece of stage plan advice I was given was: "if you're the only one using your stage plan, your either a fckng genius, or you're wrong" Good stuff boys!
Hahaha
😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Great video!
John's natural resting point for his right hand is on his gun, all the time. 14:38, VALID QUESTION!!, As a fellow lefty on running left handed, when everyone goes the typical close-wise stage run, we gotta go counter for reloading muzzle safety. Don't get DQ'd like I did thinking I had to follow what everyone else was doing. "Because it's always easier to go left to right" ... That's exactly what right handed people say. 18:25, You can shoot steel last, a lot of bastard course designers will do this on purpose, but you'll burn time shooting steel last and some people will wait and burn time watching it fall. Best to hit them first if you can so you're not left waiting on the steel to fall. 20:02, "I got all alphas but yeah" lmao!
I mean I did get alphas 🤷🏻♂️
Thank you all for the video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I used to have a 30" waist. Like 10 yrs ago when I was in my 40's.
Speed shooting is a hard contrast from the defensive school of thought where we're learning to shoot behind cover, taking accurate and deliberate shots. The defensive instructors I've worked with always tell me to SLOW DOWN.
I JUST started shooting USPSA this year, I've done a few casual competitions here and there, been shooting for a long long time, I like to think I'm an OK shot, but put a timer on it, and put speed to it, and the wheels fall off. I've learned from some of the guys who have been doing this for years, it's all about planning your course of fire, I'm sort of haphazard, they know what targets they will engage next, they are always thinking ahead, gaming it, how to be efficient, move the least distance, etc. They will easily do a course of fire in half the time.
It’s great to educate those new to the competitive scene but have One person giving instructions in order to avoid confusion.
So can you shoot the targets in any order as long as you hit all the targets? Also, great video. Very entertaining and informative.
Yes
Correct
Chris - you should come out to Rio and shoot Tuesday Night Steel
How to Shoot Fast & Efficiently - Step one: Buy a 2011
Would be stupid not to. The day you decide to spend all your weekends & money shooting.. doesnt make sense to use a $600 pistol.
A Staccato XC?
If this is a serious comment, not so much. The guy that won USPSA CO and Limited Nationals championships did so with a $700 Canik. In Limited he did so at a scoring disadvantage due to shooting Minor where most of the field is shooting major. But a 2011 because you love 2011s.
@@geebeaux I'm enjoying my $600 polymer canik rival almost every weekend.
You can use other pistols for sure. 2011’s are just one way
Welcome to our world Competition USPSA😂🥳🥳🥳, and im a lefty,so im just sitting here watching LMAO 🤣
Love ispca. I just don't like dropping a mag with ammo in it. They do that alot.
Yep all part of the strategy
The thought process if you run empty standing at a position you will be doing nothing but a reload for 1.5 - 2 seconds. Thats time you are not accumuluating points/taking shots. If you reload while you are moving to a position, you have that down time no matter what so its not costing you to add the reload on the move.
@Range Panda I totally understand why they do it, I just think it's a bad habit if you conceal carry. You never drop precious ammo on the ground if you don't have to. I get it's a sport, it just makes me cring.
Do y'all know what Dots they were running? I'm wanting to get into practical shooting and curious what they were running
Sro on Chris and Acro on Jake
@@DustysDriver1212 what about the the actual competition shooters dots
Sig Romeo 3 on Panda’s and I think a SRO on Gianni’s. SRO, Sig Romeo 3, Delta Point Pro’s are the most common
Correct
@@trentmiller7336 thank you
Fun video, Guys! 👍
Love it…too funny.
Great time! Montana is currently jealous of Texas because 1911 was doing cool shit down there recently. I'm glad I wasn't drinking coffee when the Beta male joke came around. Keep doing what you guys do.
EDIT: Wrote this before the "arch the back" comment. Couldn't contain the laughs on that one. These guys....
Baaahhaha I love how Jake is the first to mention the arched back. We had a blast man thanks for watching 😂😂
Hey no judgement here. Arch away
So now that you’re shooting that fancy infinity, do you feel like you shoot better?
Not really. It’s marginal performance gains based on gear alone
what shot timer is that?
ive been wrong handed (Lefty) my whole life felt that.
Heck yea, are you going to do some actual matches? Its addicting and great fun. My wife and I have an absolute blast.
Next Friday we have a video from our first match
@@1911syndicate Hell Yeah! i can't wait!
What is GIANNI SHOOTING? Is it a Staccato or Bull Armory ? THanks...
Infinity
Infinity
real question is, what arcteryx jacket is that?
It’s a mixed weather model but blanking on the name
What atx is that?
Great video guys. I’ve been getting the gear and gun ready to start getting into competition shooting. Looks like lots of fun especially with all the S%#t talking lol
Oh yeah dude tons of fun and the shit talking was at a all time high haha 😂😂😂
It’s fun man just don’t expect to do well right away haha
Fast is fast and slow is slow. I think you earn that today.
I feel you Jake. Back when I shot IPSC the stages were ussually right hand friendly. It most always cost me time. After I started in CAS I was designng stages that were sometmes left hand friendly. It used to piss off the gamers. Of course I lived to piss them off so there were usually one or two left hand friendly stages (out of six) the were definitely left hand friendly. They were not amused by those...but fuck 'em right?!
Indeed my friend
Ever notice how when somebody reaches the pinnacle of their hobby, they get kinda.. weird?
We’re all weird
First?
Indeed
🏃 🏃🏃🏃
Easier to go left to right… if you’re right handed.
TITLE EDIT: How To Run A Pistol Course
Not How to shoot faster
Thanks man great comment 🙄
I just learned that I wouldn’t like this. Kinda looks dumb. Love the channel tho. Just not my cup of tea.
Hey man it’s not for everyone there are pros and cons like anything. Jake and I had a great time. Worth trying once or twice just to try it out man but also if it’s not for you then it’s all good 👊🏼 thanks for watching and commenting bro we appreciate it
Ha ha he never answered any questions. "Why is there no beta?" "Because the targets used to have them now they dont". Uh ok. "Well what is minor/major?" " Youll be minor." Ok great.
The little one is so whiny.
These two with their hand on their pistol constantly is really bothering me.
Why? Did someone get shot? Or flagged? Was there a hint of anything unsafe? Don’t be so offended dude
Lol, like Ricky Bobby not knowing what to do with his hands.
@2:18 blatantly false. All competition shooters care about is how much better they are than you. I took a competition shooting course with Tim heron last year and it was one of the worst groups of gun guys I had ever shot with. All they cared about was how good they were, and how much they could show off. Didn’t seem like people were there to learn just how much they could flex on other people. I’d say I’m an above average shooter, and always trying to get something out of a course, but about a third of the way through I tuned out because the personalities at this course were unbearable. A lot of good technique and gear has come out of the competition shooting ring, but I would rather just appropriate it and never talk to those people
🤷🏼♂️ everyone was cool with us for the 2 days we shot
We had a great experience and everyone was super kind and welcoming. Sorry that you had a bad experience
I feel like you just had a bad experience dude. Everyone I’ve ever met is friendly as they can be at matches except for this one grumpy old guy with the least reliable “race” gun I’ve ever seen
@@johnlatzke3631 Tim was great, the crowd that the course drew was awful. Left a really bad taste for competition shooting. Had guys trying to argue over line breaks and DQs. Just ego flexing. Not to say that doesn’t happen in the “tactical/self defense” group, just wasn’t expecting that from dudes who dry fire at a mini ADAP target in their basement for 4 hours a night. And the unwanted advice/“coaching” from other students in the class was obnoxious. I didn’t go to a course with Tim Heron to have a C class shooter explain why my exit was wrong.
That’s a pretty heavy blanket statement to throw over ALL competitive shooters. Sure, there are some who have an ego problem, but there are many more who go above and beyond to help others.
Taking one class and complaining about other students is upsetting, but it’s one class. The next ten you take may be amazing and full of great shooters.
FWIW, my classes with Tim, and other competitors who instruct, wasn’t the same experience as yours.
