+Thenextworldwar So, she thinks the darkness is her ally, you know what I nevered tried doing that, but does it freeze her and puts her in a state of hell, where she cant do anything, because she deflects missiles and dodges charge shots.
+Phantron Actually if memory serves the only reason Dark Aether's atmosphere is poisonous is probably due to it being in an alternate dimension completely corrupted by Phazon...so technically it would not hurt her....then again that blows the "Phazon is in the atmosphere" theory because the Light Suit negates all damage from its poison completely. Knowing Retro its probably an oversight and not worth thinking too much on.
Am I the only one who fucking loves prime 2's music? In fact the only reason I remember prime 1's music is because of how long I was stuck in that area
Midnagamein G >Ingsmasher comes alive and starts wrecking my shit, initiate bomb worm battle theme >get smashed to fuck for 30 seconds when that techno beat comes in because I'm too busy banging my head that soundtrack was hype
+Midnagamein G I don't share all his criticisms for Metroid Prime 2 except for the collecting keys but it isn't as good as Metroid Prime but it is a good game and no you're not the only one to thinks Metroid Prime 2's music is awesome..
Me coming back to it in 2023: holy fuck I feel old, I remember watching this video at my grandparents old house with my cousin when we were both in like middle school, before I played prime 2 like a dozen or so times and before realizing man Johnny got a ton wrong in this video and he is way too negative, I’m hoping he’ll be more positive when he re-reviews it
Actually, Johnny, Nintendo added the ammo system to invoke a sense of fear. In fact, that's the whole concept of Prime 2, invoking fear and paranoia. The dark story and grim atmosphere all remind me of Resident Evil and I did get jump scared by enemies suddenly attacking on occasion, specifically Metroids, which I can never seem to predict when they will show up.
Gamer-Nation 108 Those Grenchlers, man....I thought they were just baby Sheegoth clones, until one of them JUMPED to the same platform I was standing on. Couldn't tell you how many swears I let loose after THAT first-time experience.
Gamer-Nation 108 If that was the case, then they failed. I own the Metroid Prime: Trillogy ($50 from the now-closed Game Crazy in my area several years ago. WHOO!!) and TBH, I agree with Johnny on many points. The Ammo system was out of place, missiles enough were the only "Ammo" I wanted to worry about. There wasn't a sense of fear in this game. Perhaps if it was more established from the very beginning of the franchise, it could hold well. But if there was a sense of fear to be held, there wasn't. If anything, it was more like, "Oh look, another enemy." I had to FORCE myself, WITH CHEATS, to play through this game once. I played through MP1 and MP3 3 times legit on Normal, Vetran, and Hypermode, and I'm more than willing to play those games freely without the use of external codes. For me, the only time I could actually enjoy the game was when I had access to the Light Suit, and could freely explore Aether and Dark Aether. But all the events leading up to then (Which I understand is roughly 80-90% of the game), I found were a chore and a bore to sit through. For me, I won't consider my MP:T game "Complete 100%" till I actually complete all 3 difficulties on all 3 games. I'm already finished with MP1 and 3 on all 3 difficulties, yet I'm in no rush to jump back into MP2. That's how much I loathe the experience. But that's me.
the Comic Nation 108 invoke fear? more like annoyance because that is THE ONLY thing I feel when im almost out of ammo. you want something that invokes fear? go play metroid fusion cuz THAT game does a much better job at getting the player tense than prime 2 does
idk why but i remember that part of the video having a better framerate. my guess is that somewhere, someone at youtube accidentally screwed up the video portion of that bit but was able to salvage the audio and that's why it's so stuttery nowadays
After getting the Annilhilator Beam from the boss in the Ing Hive, I tend to shoot the Light Crystals/Beacons with it. It causes many dark enemies to go running right into it.
I love playing the Prime series, with most of my time just being spent reading the logs and taking in the atmosphere. But I do feel like I get burnt out on the first game far too quickly, and I did feel that it was significantly easier than the other Prime games even on harder difficulties.
@@signas501 imo, Prime 2 assumes you have at least beaten Prime 1 thus the harder overall difficulty. This is my favourite Prime game mainly due to difficulty on normal. Hard difficulty is only for those seeking a hardcore challenge but again just my opinion.
I liked this the most out of the trilogy, sure there are some problems, but the levels are so good, especially Sanctuary Fortress. The game felt more challenging than the others, and the gameplay for the most part felt very refined.
Yes, I would agree! I played the trilogy in its original three games one by one and I love the stand-alone nature of this game as a Metroid adventure. The sheer originality and difficulty really gets me. The ammo system is also just to balance the game I believe. If you had unlimited everything it'd be WAY too easy. It's also manageable if you follow the rules to get more ammo. The general feat samus pulls, saving an entire damn planet feels better than the cookie-cutter first Prime that pulls a lot from it's 2D origins, including basic locales. Although the architecture takes a hit in this game, Sanctuary Fortress is beautiful and makes up for the other two areas being ruins. Also come on now guys, the bosses weren't a challenge in Prime till the last one. All of these are pretty testing!
"You look very human. No you look very Timelord" Also twilight princess came out two years after Metriod prime two so your implied argument is invalid.
I have no idea why people complain about the bosses so much, they're like, literally so much more interesting than Prime 1's, they're way less repetitive, they change with time, like Chykka and Quadraxis which have 2 and 3 phases respectively, and so many creative uses for the morph ball and the spider ball with bosses like the Power Bomb guardian or the Spider Ball guardian, Prime 1's endgame bosses were WAY more annoying than any of Prime 2's bosses, Omega Guardian and Metroid Prime were so repetitive and boring. Omega Guardian: destroy its arms and ankles, switch to the X-Ray visor which fuckin' blinds you and makes everything white, while the fucker spawns colored Space Pirates that can only be damaged with certain beams, fun. Metroid Prime: first phase is a slog, switching the beams is so slow, and you deal barely any damage to it, and then there's the second phase, starts off fine until it starts spawning those Mitosis Metroids that can, again, only be hit by certain beams, plus you have to switch between X-Ray and Thermal to even see the Metroid Prime, adding to that is the fact that you have to stand on the Phazon puddles to enable hypermode, which is annoying in on itself when you're also dealing with those annoying pesky little Metroids.
I may just be screaming into the wind here, but I think the backtracking was worse in prime 1. Just to get the wave beam, you hade to get the boost ball in the drifts, go through magmoor and the overworld to get the space jump boots, and finally go all the way back to the drifts to get the wave beam. In prime 2 backtracking is made a lot easier because there’s usually an elevator going straight where you need to be and you never have to go through more than 1 area just to get 1 item
I gotta say, after playing it for the first time just recently, MP2 is not as bad as you make it out to be. I mean, we can all have our opinions, but I honestly didn't find it as boring or repetitive as you did. Granted that Sky Temple key quest was a load of bullocks. It seems Nintendo had an affinity for those types of quests at end-game that generation, because not only did Prime have it, but Windwaker had it with the Tri-Force quest as well.
+MaxxSkywalker Will agree that hunters is not bad but unfortunately it is unplayable now. My big man hands can't take the way the controls are like the way they could when I was 14.
This reply is late af, but I also want to say that Echoes has a diffent feel than Prime, in a good way. Prime feels bright and video-gamey, it's the definitive 3-D Metroid game. But Echoes feels like a real Alien world that's been lived in. Everything is so bland and grimy, corrosive and uninvitin, and I love it.
Trust me The Sky temple Key hunt is not as bad to me in my honest opinion. I never liked the tri - Force quest in Wind Waker. Not only Dose it require to take a lot out of me, But getting the maps that tell you where to go are blinded, not only trying to get inside the ghost ship is horseshit, but you are constantly going to tingle island in order to unblind them, with along side a huge ass price in order to make that happen, and that means I have to grind a fuckloed of rupees in order to get things moving.
You can find a save point three rooms before you encounter the Spider Guardian. If you lose to him you will backtrack for around 3 minutes. Zooming in the camera in the last section is really helpful. I also never had a problem fighting the Alpha Blogg, the sidedash worked perfectly fine for me. But I have played the European PAL-version, maybe they fixed this issue there.
Ok I really feel I need to point this out, but the beam ammo is there for a very good reason. The Dark, Light and Annihilator beams are ABSURDLY powerful. They would be devastatingly gamebreaking if they had infinite ammo, each one is far more powerful against the enemies weak to it than the Plasma beam was against anything in Prime 1. The screw attack is absurdly powerful as well, but the issue most of you probably had is that it does damage per frame, not just a single set amount on contact, and some enemies you just bounce off of when screw attacking into them, meaning you do very little damage. For these enemies, screw attack to the side of them, and if you sideswipe them they'll die instantly. Also that example of trying to screw attack flying pirates was dumb, because they're one of the few enemies coded to be almost impossible to hit with screw attack. Also, much as I love Prime 1, Prime 2's environments were so much richer, more detailed, and for fucks sake, at least they weren't video game level tropes like Prime 1's were. Honestly I enjoyed more of the music in Prime 2 as well, Prime 2 had a ton of great music I enjoy listening to outside the context of the game. PS the Ing were able to steal the upgrades because Samus' suit runs off of a type of energy found in all living things, and some creatures, like Metroids, have the ability to siphon that energy. Upgrades to her suit were not custom built just for her, they come in energy form that the suit that absorbed it then uses to manifest a physical addition, the appearance of which would probably be different if another compatible non Power Suit suit were to absorb it. The Ing stole her shit in the same way Metroid Prime stole the Phazon Suit and made Dark Samus out of it in Prime 1. You get the upgrades back when killing the Ing guardians for the same reasons you get health and missiles and power bombs from killing enemies. You're basically collecting the remnant energy released by killing the creature.
those prime 2 beams are nowhere near as powerful as the prime 1 plasma beam, it could kill a standard pirate with 1 uncharged shot and could take out both baby and big sheegoths with ease. also the ice beam is about as effective as the dark beam but ice beam has unlimited ammo
@@supremacysammy3173 ice beam may be more powerful with its base shots than the dark beam but the rate of fire is at most half the speed of the dark beam, travel time is lower, charged ice beam is kind of redundant and the ice spreader looks cool but its kinda useless on everything but the metroid prime in ice state. Also yes the plasma beam is very powerful especially against ice enemies but for the most part the enemies you face in prime 1 that arent bosses, adult sheegoths, elite pirates or space pirates are embarrassingly weak. In prime 2 with a wider variety of significantly tougher enemies that will push your shit in it kind of makes sense why the beams may not feel as overpowered.
@@supremacysammy3173 Nah imo Prime 2's ammo is way more broken and there's a reason why they limit you. Light beam has DoT along with instakilling any ing that step on those light stances. Dark beam only takes 1 shot and it usually follows along as "I already hit him it's ok" especially since the dark particles help freezing fast moving enemies. Annihalator does so much damage and it does the aim for you it's effortless.
I disagree with you Johnny on this one. How come Metroid Other M is criticized for having the 3 Generic environments of grass, ice and fire (typical of almost any 3D metroid game), and the first prime, which has Tallon Overworld, Phendrana and Magmoor, 3 generic grass, ice and fire areas, is not? I think I enjoyed Echoes more than Prime. It explored the dark/light duality in ways fewer games have (like A Link to the Past, Chrono Trigger, and don't know any other ones), the final boss was more badass than the first Prime, and this game adopted the official Samus Zero Suit canon. Also, I find this game has more memorable music than Prime--Torvus Bog is simply awesome, the lower Torvus' remix of Deper Brinstar from SM is simply amazing, and the sanctuary fortress music, mix of chorus and electronic is one of the best tunes I have heard. Also, the Chykka theme (both, larval and adult, with special leaning towards the larval theme), and the Quadraxis battle music, is top notch from Kenji Yamamoto. This game has even better music than Corruption. Ahh, don't forget the remix of the countdown, straight from N, ES Metroid. This game broke out of the norm, it presented us with a desert, a flooded forest/Swamp with a technological facility inside, and a futuristic city. The best boss battle to date (quadraxis), dual-dimension based puzzles, brought us back the Screw Attack (which was sorely missed in Prime), and established Samus as a badass hunter. Simply one of the best games on the GCN.
Prime 2 isn't perfect by all means. But I still think it's a amazing game. I know why some people may not like the game. But it's really not that bad as people claim it to be.
Chris Puhara Hey - someone from 3 days ago! Wasn’t expecting to see you here lol. I’m just finally getting into playing Prime 2 for the first time in 2019, so far so good
@@mycoolvsgame there’s a brief mandatory cutscene you have to watch each time you die, which could be slightly tedious, but it’s literally only a couple of rooms away from the save point
Complaining about the environments... I see this all the time for so many games. It always plays out in two ways: 1. Environments are too clichéd. (Forest, ice, lava, desert, etc,) And when a game actually breaks that classic mold and tries subtler themes it becomes... 2. Bland and boring. Not memorable.
I think the Chozo Ruins and the Space Pirate stations in Phendrana Drifts from Prime 1 are good examples of subtler environments that are still diverse and exciting. I also don't think it's fair for you to discount his criticism just because it can relate to a trope you perceive as unfair criticism - it's just a cop out to pretend like he disliked the environment because "it was subtle."
StllBreathnBut_Y i dont think thats true. Paper Mario TYYD has continually been praised left and right for going with a different set of environments thats still memorable (seriously, I think Rogueport is one of, if not the most memorable hubworlds in all video games)
I personally don't see really anything wrong with prime 2. When I first played it, right after prime 1, in the summer of 2010, I was very put off by it. I had never even heard of Metroid at all until that summer when my friend let me play Prime 1, so I was very skeptical about it, and honestly a bit afraid too. (Mainly due to the first time I faced the Parasite Queen). And at first, I absolutely hated prime 2, even going as far as making my friend beat all the bosses for me when he gave me his copy. But now that I've had it for some time, and after a very recent playthrough (that being today lol) I can now say without a doubt that metroid prime 2 is one of my favorite games I've ever played.
Absolutely not. The first one does. The only theme that I legitimately enjoyed in this game was the remix of the lower brinstar theme from Super Metroid.
The spider guardian is an absolute joke compared to what johnny makes it out to be. I died a total of TWICE on normal mode before beating it. And the "hours worth of exploration in the sanctuary fortress with no save room in sight" is a lie too. There are TWO save rooms during your time in the fortress up to this point. If you die to the spider, the most you'll have to do is 10 to 12 minutes of exploration. Which is still an unnecessary pain, but not CLOSE to what it's made out to be.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, even though Prime 1 is my favorite Metroid game, Prime 2 is what I view as the apex of the trilogy. It's almost perfect.
After playing through the game a second time, I figured some stuff out that really helps. Dark Commandos go down super easy with a charged dark beam + missle. There's also a save room that's kinda close to the spider guardian (fuck that boss still tho). As for the save point for alpha blog, yeaaah once you do that last part of the puzzle to open up the bottom area no turning back sadly. My main complaints with this game is just a couple of the bosses, alpha blogg, spider guardian, and the boost guardian ( getting hit by that boost attack does waaay too much damage imo)
Boost gaurdian on hard is luck based. If he doesnt hit any pillars or too few, you are pretty much gaurenteed to die regardless of skill. Alpha blogg is a pain in the bitch to beat by timing super missiles and trading blows, trick is the charged darkbeam and sidesteping his attack while firing last second.
@@ghostofsilence2697 Boost Guardian is not nearly as frustrating as Spider Guardian, even on hard. The trick is that staying in morph ball mode longer than you need to only gets you killed. Stay near the edge of the arena double jumping while he's boosting around (not locked on) and he never hits you. Once he's a puddle you can drop bombs, but ALWAYS unmorph when he's ready to boost around again. As long as you're not taking that stupid crash damage and you're making your charged light beam shots count, he falls like a complete chump pretty quickly.
+Good Hunter don't, other M is horrible and says fuck you to the metroid formula that gave birth to the current way castlevania handled itself ever since SOTN.
This is my personal favourite of the three Prime games, but I can see why some might not like it. I just think that as a sequel, it expanded everything about Prime 1, cooler enemies, cooler environments, cooler weapons/abilities etc.
I actually have the opposite view of your review. I love MP2 more than MP1. I still love MP1, but I find that MP2 did everything better. Yes, graphically it does look alittle worse, but thats due to the world being much larger. The backtracking isn't a huge problem for me, because I played this game like I played other metroid games, which is I tend to backtrack on my own anyways in order to explore more. I'm a completionist, so backtracking isn't a big problem for me. The beam weapons having limited ammo meant not over-using them. I can't just go through dark either by only using the light beam, because i will run out of ammo. You can still fire it if you do run out of ammo, but it requires you to charge. its super easy to get dark/light ammo though, so i didn't ever really run out of ammo. I like the fact that aether is how it is. Its a new world in comparison to previous metroid titles, all of which usually have you exploring areas of chozo origin. In this its the luminoth, another race of aliens that are technologically advanced, yet at the same time seem to care for nature as well, similar to the chozo. Their technology is also based on light, something very different than the chozo. I also enjoyed the added difficulty, as I feel like it was a natural step forward. Make the game harder since not a lot control wise changed. Probably my only problems with the game are with the damage you take in dark aether vs how much you recover in light. I feel like the light crystals should recover health faster in order to cut down waiting time. Also, some items don't get a lot of use. Screw attack being one (both its main function and the wall jumping function) though this is similar to how the spider ball is very limited in use as well. The multi-missile is also under-utilized, as i feel like it could have made for some interesting enemy encounters. Why not have an enemy that requires you to target multiple parts at once, or maybe have some echo-visor only switches require multiple switches to all be hit at once? also the echo visor isn't used much, nor is the dark visor. Also I will admit that I don't find the world as a whole as interesting as previous metroid titles. That doesn't mean that they're boring, its just hard to explain. I really enjoyed torvus bog though, and its easily my favorite area in any metroid title. The perpetual rain coming down in a forested area that has abandoned technological structures, leading down to an underground (seemingly now flooded) research facility looking area. I find that it compares and contrasts nature and technology really well. This is all my opinion though. I can see why people don't regard MP2 as highly as MP1. Personally though, its still better than MP3, which I felt was too linear. It also felt much smaller. Yea they have 3 planets to explore, but they all feel like half the size of a single area in MP1 or MP2. also, I felt like they were all linear, with some areas being larger, but still only having 2 doors and only being as large as they are because you have to fight another wave of enemies. for me, MP2>MP1>MP3. MP2 and MP1 are extremely close.
I also really like how the Prime series didn't just keep aping the Chozo. The Luminoth and Ing were a breath of fresh air, especially since the Chozo were already very well handled in the first game. Even the third game had the...whatever deceased culture that existed on Bryyo. I don't think it was Chozo... honestly don't remember. That third game is actually completely on par with the first two, but it's still the one I've played the least. Point is, I like how the Prime series tried new things!
I actually like this game a little little bit more than Prime 1. I think it actually did some pretty interesting stuff with the level design and the environments
The reason why Prime 2 feels so drawn out is because if you ignore the dark world, there aren't that many rooms compared to the first Prime game. That makes no sense because it should be shorter...well let me explain it further. Notice that in the first prime game, big rooms were around, but not in abundance. Usually the bigger rooms acted as a center point or hub for the various areas Samus can explore. In prime 2, the abundance of bigger room with overly complicated puzzles to drag them all out makes the game slow down to an unfortunate amount. Later in the first Prime game, Samus encounters Chozo Ghosts. Despite their annoying tactics, they can be brought down with 2 super missiles. For Dark Pirate Commandos, they take a whopping 4. You could use the Light beam and use about 3 charge shots up, but why can't you just...I don't know...run away? Well you can't. Prime 1 gave players the option to stick around to fight the Chozo Ghosts and then they can finish a puzzle in that room. You can pass up the room if you want if you don't need anything there. However in Prime 2, you are forced to Fight the commandos. Some do appear in portal areas so you can make a quick escape, but you can't progress to any other rooms in that dimension until they all die. Prime 1 had more rooms albeit smaller with puzzles that won't drag on. They save the much larger puzzles for the bigger rooms but also made sure that they didn't stack up to aggravate the player. For Prime 2, I encountered small rooms that take WAY too long to not just solve a puzzle, but to traverse through other rooms. Prime made sure that the player has enough breathing rooms to take short cuts to find faster ways to traverse through a map. For Prime 2 these design choices are very few. The Space Jump boots are acquired very early in the game, so the developers had to get around the traversing issue by having Samus get around areas that didn't require so much jumping. Ball cannons, magnet railings, more elevators, abundance on ball morphing in general to get to new areas with forced ball puzzles to further waste your time when you just want to get to new areas, these aspects slow down the game and act like padding. Where the Agon wastes was open enough for Samus to move around as she pleases, Tovrus and Sanctuary are VERY linear. And getting to one place to another would require to go through areas that over stay their welcomes. Why does it take SO long to traverse through this game even with all of Samus's power ups? Well I have an answer. All we have to do is think about why is there even a dark world gameplay wise? The Dark world concept is like what John said, it's like link to the past. The Dark world is a brilliant albeit cheap gameplay mechanic to double the size of a game. By putting twists in another world, game designers can reuse assets from the original world to save space and time. However, with Link to the past the designers made sure that the environments in the dark world look unique and would even put nice spins to mirror the light world. Metroid Prime 2 had this going for it well with Agon. You can tell they put in more efforts to make the dark world look different from the light world by completely changing the layouts of the rooms. This is more prominent in the Pirate's base. But for Sanctuary and Tovrus that is not the case. Tovrus and Sanctuary reused many rooms and didn't put in much effort to make the worlds look...well different from the Light world! The Inghive is a redder version of Sanctuary and the Poison Bog is just a swamp version of the bog...ah get it? Bog and swamp? Swamp being more...well you know...creepier...ahem anyways, the only few rooms that I can remember that had different layouts were the catacombs of the bog and ...What WAS different from Ing Hive compared to Sanctuary besides a red pain job? Are you understanding why this is? Well did you know that three months before Metroid Prime 2 was released...it was only *30 percent in completion*? Yep! There is your answer. This is why Agon feels more thought out than Tovrus and Sanctuary. This is why the game has overly long complicated rooms that you reenter on multiple occasions to drag out the game. This is why the game is harder so it wasn't too easy to beat (Making it hard to make it longer is an old school game tactic). This is why the game's graphics are overall dull so they can easily reuse maps to make the dark world easier to reskin. This is why we have dark versions of already existing light creatures. This is why the game...is so dragged on. It's such a shame that Metroid Prime 2 feels like a poor masterpiece with so much potential. Instead of waiting another year to finish the game to give it great polish like Metroid Prime, Prime 2's overall dull gameplay is the product of marketing to rush a game for the holiday season. As Shigeru once said, a rushed game is forever bad, but a delayed game would overall make it better.
I also liked the ammo system. It kept me from getting too OP'D and I found it easy to replenish the ammo. It also forces you to be strategic with your weapons, something that I think no other game did right except for Prime 2!
Y'know, I feel, looking back, that unnecessary padding was a huge recurring element in games from the GameCube/PS2/XBOX era. Granted, at that time "how long is the game" was the first question most people would ask, so I feel like that extra padding was there draw out playtime
Surprisingly this is my favorite metroid game and my 2nd favorite game of all time, it posed a challange unlike the first prime, and the ammo system was balanced by the beams being VERY overpowered compared to the prime 1 beams. Also, even charging them to fire every shot while you're out of ammo still is FAR more effective than the power beam
it's amazing how much of these games makes more sense when you wrap your head around the fact that Phazon A) learns how to possess machines and integrate technology (possibly even TAUGHT that by the space pirates), and B) has a hivemind that instantly communicates across _all Phazon, everywhere_
As far as I'm concerned, MP2 is the best game in the series. Having said that, my concessions are: -The environments are more dull. -Some enemies are annoying. -Save Stations do not appear to be in convenient locations if you haven't played the game before. Detailed review of review below.
For me personally I felt Prime 2 handled backtracking much better than Prime 1. The times where you get a power up and have to return to use it in the temple grounds is pretty low and each area connects to each other unlike Prime 1. In Prime 1 the power up collection requires so much zigzagging that by the halfway point I had to use the hints just to know where to go. And while there's been a few times I needed the hints in Prime 2 it was nowhere near as frequent since the structure is that you collect all the powers in one area before moving to the next with only a small handful of exceptions. As much as I enjoyed Prime 1 I really can't see what you mean about the backtracking here being bad considering how everywhere connects and you dont just zigzag across areas. It's all a matter of personal opinion though. Since it's been 10 years since this review I would be interested in seeing your thoughts again on this game if you make an updated version of your metroid reviews seeing how most of them are from the SGB or early Johnny vs era. Could be a fun revisit in the future with Dread on the horizon and Prime 4 still in development
This game is a masterpiece -- what a mindfuck it is to play through this game. It's supposed to be tense / horrific. Your video was hilarious man. many thanks!
Echoes is a bit strange (limited beam ammo, dull colors, etc.) but I still like it. Do I like it more than Prime? Well I like both for different reasons. I like Prime for the easier sequence breaks (my favorite being the early Space Jump Boots) and vibrant colors. As for Echoes its the fun bosses (excluding Alpha Blogg, Boost Guardian, Spider Guardian and the Ing Emperor 1 who are all a pain and even worse in the hard difficulty setting) and the Light/Dark elements. Anyways if you don't like it, that's fine.
I was initially underwhelmed with Echoes as well back when I first played it in 2004. I have to say that my opinion of it has definitely improved over the years though. I really like how they introduced a bunch of new stuff and the up in difficulty was refreshing.
After playing these two games back to back, I have to say I like this one more. I really like the Zeldafication that they managed to do without sacrificing the Metroid elements.
Funny thing about the dark commandos is that they're actually weak to the charged dark beam+missle combo. Made them a lot less of a pain than the chozo ghosts as soon as I found that out. Prime 2 is kinda below 1 and 3 for me but not by much. It's only slightly below due to boost guardian, spider guardian, and alpha blogg boss fights. Oh and I'm also not a fan of the beam ammo although my last playthrough of the game made it seem like beam ammo was not much of an issue (which still says "why even bother with that anyway"). Still I love this game along with it's other members of the trilogy
Harold Smith Music? What music? I'll give you gameplay, but the story of Other M (orlackthereof) was garbage. Basically took away everything that made Samus who she was. The Prime OS2 by itself shits on Other M's existence.
I loved the music of this game. It's something I can never get out of my head. However the game as a whole isn't my favourite, it was my first 3D Metroid game and it will forever be in my heart. Also I loved the concept of Dark Samus and how this game really pushed the boundaries of what can fit in a Metroid game. I was truly scared of this game as a kid, but I couldn't stop playing it.
This needs a round two! Give it another chance, Johnny!! I also disliked this game due to its dark aesthetics and difficulty but the lore and your role in the story changed everything for me when I replayed it from my childhood.
Early plans for Echoes were very different from the final game, initially built on Retro wanting to distance themselves from the horrorshow production of Metroid Prime, creating a less intensive Bottle Episode to be made with fewer assets in a shorter period of time (described as how if Prime was Metroid's Ocarina of Time, this would be its Majora's Mask). An early pitch for the game called Metroid 1.5, written by level designer Tony Giovannini, detailed possible ideas for the game: immediately following the end of the first game, Samus' ship would be sucked up into a massive alien warship that would be the setting for the rest of the game, featuring aliens in cryostasis being bred for war, a malfunctioning AI with split personalities that either sought to help or hurt Samus, a gameplay mechanic where time can flow backwards and/or the gravity of a room can be altered, many different enemy types, plans for an "Ancient Chozo Robot Battle" multiplayer mode (where the players roll up into the chestplate of ancient robots and use them to battle), the appearance of other bounty hunters, and more. Some of these ideas were revisited in later games, such as the sleeping aliens (repurposed as the slumbering Luminoth), other bounty hunters appearing in Metroid Prime: Hunters and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, and using ancient war golems via Morph Ball in Corruption.
Ok, for anybody who still finds the Boost Guardian hard to beat, Johnny especially, check out Omega Snake's channel on the bosses of this game. He gives strategies for how to defeat the game's bosses, and make them easy. The Boost Guardian is a highlight of the playlist, in my opinion, since Omega Snake says that it is the boss that is requested the most, of Metroid Prime 2. If you find this comment, tell him I told you about his channel and try to support him the best way you can.
I love all three Prime games, and while Prime is my favorite, Echoes is the one I replay the most. There's just something about it that I really enjoy. I don't mind the ammo system, in fact it makes the game more interesting and different from the others. I enjoy the Light/Dark World gimmick in this game, and with a couple of exceptions the bosses are all a lot of fun. The backtracking doesn't bother me either since I usually go for everything I can at that point anyway, including the Keys.
13:30 1 hour? i think you mean passing though 9 doors and fighting 3 enemies. do you seriously not know about the save station next to the generator? it's one of the most beautiful rooms in the game.
Ironically enough Prime 2 Echoes is my favourite of the Prime games. Just the soundtrack alone got stuck in my head for so much time when I was a kid. Pick this game up, it's awesome, don't miss the chance.
So I'm currently playing through Metroid Prime 2 for the first time and Johnny I have no clue why you had so much trouble with the Boost Guardian, I beat him on my first try, literally just shoot charged light beams and the fight is over in 5 minutes, plus the save room isn't that far from it, you exaggerated it way too much.
7:39 Seeker missiles might not be much in the original, but man can you really put them to use in the trilogy where all you do is hold the missile button and wave and you can get rid of ALL of those freaking war wasps. Or shriekbats, Or multiple jetpack space pirates.
here are my only complaints about Metroid prime 2 1. could have been a lot more enemies with a good ol' arsenal buff and with much less predictable ai 2. could have been a *LOT* darker and scarier 3. the overall difficulty factor could have been amped up even more than it already was (in consideration to hazards and environment) 4. not being able to steer the screw attack which made me have to calculate carefully when and where I should use it. other than that it was hands down my favorite entry in all of Metroid history, BUT STILL, I want to be scared stiff and sweating bullets while playing this game alone in the dark. Metroid Prime on the other hand while fun, wasn't 100% engaging for me and was too damn easy even on the hardest setting and with me giving the enemies a handicap by keeping my health at roughly 50% and using weaker weapons with 2/3 the trying power... I played it a lot as a kid okay. being too easy made it too short and that was kind of a dealbreaker, even 9 years later when I had all but forgotten how to play and where everything is. not to say its a bad game because its not. in fact it is second in line among my list of favorites behind mp2.
Back when it came out, this review made me not want to play the game. Years later (now) watching the Geek Critique's review makes me WANT to play it...
One thing they absolutely nailed in this game was the atmosphere (I know, shocking, but hear me out). I'm mostly talking about the relationship between Samus and Dark Samus. I can't be bothered explaining it but this one guy in a video explained it amazingly, the name of the video is "Why Other M failed where the Prime Trilogy succeeded" or something like that, give it a watch
Dark comandos are pretty easy, charge the dark beam, shoot at one, if its teleporting the charged dark shot will follow them AND freeze them in place and with the dark visor this tactic is just as valid. Anhilator has a nice use too which you didn't mention, it makes the ing commit suicide, only the possessed creatures won't, ingsmashers die with a power bomb.
This is actually my favorite Prime game :/ The world itself seems much darker and more depressing than the original, something I enjoy quite a bit. In addition to this, the bosses in this game (at least to me) seem much more interesting. My favorite would have to be a cross between the Dark Chykka and the final battle with Dark Samus.
People complaining about this game being scored lower than Other M, while I'm trying to figure out how it rated lower than Return of Samus for Gameboy. :/
I think it would be considered a pretty good sequel if it didn't take a decade for MP4 to come out, it's okay to experiment with IPs, and I loved some concepts and bosses that MP2 had, but I wish they had used their 3 games more efficiently.
Did you just say... "Only the rear/Rare of the Ship took any damage, so I'm guessing the ship's made of Nintendium"? Damn... That's it... Jobs done, found it. Most seamless smooth double pun I've ever heard.
I fucking love Echoes. Prime 1 is my favorite game of all time, but Echoes was an incredible sequel. I can definitely see why people wouldn't like it too much, though.
I agree with this review completely. I absolutely loved Metroid Prime 1, but 2 didn't leave me that satisfied when beating it. I loved all the bosses ( Except for Grapple, Boost, and the Spider Guardians, they can get a Power bomb up the Ass.). However, everything else didn't stick out. A side from the Boss themes, the remix of Red Brinstar, and the escape theme, I never really hummed much else, the dark world themes are also just non-existent. The environments were my least favorite part though. I absolutely love how the Sanctuary fortress looks, but that's it. The temple grounds is bland, Agon wastes is just lots of brown, Torvus just looks way too melancholy ( It's a real shame because I usually love swamp and jungle areas.) Not to mention the lack of landmarks makes me get lost often with how many similar looking room they have. The game isn't terrible, but it could've been a lot better. I may still replay it just for some of the cool bosses like Amorbis and Quadraxis, but then I'll have to fight guys like the spamming fucktard called the Boost guardian.
Yeah those Chozo Ghosts are the worst. Dark pirate commando, bitch please! Just fire a charged up dark beam, then fire missiles at them. No offense to Johnny.
He’s stated on Twitter that he’ll do it once Metroid Prime 4 has been given an official release date and Prime 2 and 3 have been remastered like how Prime 1 recently was.
big agree. It feels like when people talk about prime as a series, all they really mean is 1. 2 and 3 still exist and are very good, with 2 imo being very arguably better than 1. At the very least 2 should get more widespread recognition for the classic it is. Best we can hope for is a Trilogy on switch I guess
Really? Almost everyone complains about the ammo system. There a easy solution to it. DON'T USE ONE BEAM CONSTANTLY! also shoot a container with the light beam to get dark beam ammo and use dark beam on a contain to light beam ammo. Removed ammo limit would make it far too easy. Annihilator beam and charge light beam track enemies. You have Missiles Use them! People bitch because they don't bother to use more then one tactic.
golbezchaoslord yes but if you jump from mp1 to this its a total gear change and the shock of it is that people are not used to conserving their ammo in a metroid game cuz how many times in super metroid or metroid prime 1 are you thinking how much ammo can i shoot in a single room i love this game but i can see the flaws
+golbezchaoslord Not to mention ammo expansions aren't hard to find and they're ammo refill stations that replenish Beam ammo, missles, and power bombs
+golbezchaoslord Have you played Prime 1, where the Ice, Wave, and Plasma beam had infinite ammo? I was incredibly dissappinted when the Dark and Light Beams had ammo in Prime 2, because it became a hassle that Prime 1 didn't have.
golbezchaoslord Honestly, I didn't have too much of a problem with the ammo system...that said, one aspect made me question its implementation in the first place - the fact that you can still use the beam even after your ammo is depleted by charging it. It was done so you don't have to grind or backtrack in order do simple things like opening a door. But if they were going to do that...then why bother? Personally, I think normal beam usage should be unlimited, but charge attacks consume ammo. Seems fairly reasonable to me, since I tended to use their charge attacks more often than the normal one.
This game kicked my ass so much. Not in deaths, but I got lost and progressing turned my brain to soup a lot haha. The first and third Prime were much easier. It's an amazing game no doubt! But I don't think I would ever chose to play it again.
This game is AWESOME simply because it's Metroid Prime. I think it is just pure genius what the developers did with the Prime series in general: First, they released one of the greatest games of all time (Prime 1). Then, they released a darker and much harder Prime game (echoes), for all the gamers who were completely blown away by the original and needed a challenging sequel to expand their Metroid Prime gaming experience. Then, they released a much easier Prime game (Corruption) to make the franchise more accessible to other gamers and ''corrupt'' them with the Metroid-Prime awesomeness, so that they can release the Metroid Prime Trilogy. Pure Genius.
The Dark Beam is actually the most effective weapon for Dark Samus.
And yes, this does make perfect sense.
Dark Samus is originally from Tallon IV, not Dark Aether. In other words, despite being Dark, she was born in the light.
+Thenextworldwar So, she thinks the darkness is her ally, you know what I nevered tried doing that, but does it freeze her and puts her in a state of hell, where she cant do anything, because she deflects missiles and dodges charge shots.
+Thenextworldwar
Wouldnt that mean Dark Aether should damage her?
I didn't say these rules were consistent when applied to her
¯\__(ツ)__/¯
+Phantron Actually if memory serves the only reason Dark Aether's atmosphere is poisonous is probably due to it being in an alternate dimension completely corrupted by Phazon...so technically it would not hurt her....then again that blows the "Phazon is in the atmosphere" theory because the Light Suit negates all damage from its poison completely. Knowing Retro its probably an oversight and not worth thinking too much on.
Am I the only one who fucking loves prime 2's music? In fact the only reason I remember prime 1's music is because of how long I was stuck in that area
Midnagamein G No, you're not alone :)
Midnagamein G >Ingsmasher comes alive and starts wrecking my shit, initiate bomb worm battle theme
>get smashed to fuck for 30 seconds when that techno beat comes in because I'm too busy banging my head
that soundtrack was hype
Midnagamein G love prime 2's music, hate the fucking game itself xD
Good to know
+Midnagamein G I don't share all his criticisms for Metroid Prime 2 except for the collecting keys but it isn't as good as Metroid Prime but it is a good game and no you're not the only one to thinks Metroid Prime 2's music is awesome..
Johnny in 2011: God, has it been 7 years already
Me watching video in 2018: God, has it been 7 years already
Me watching video in 2020: God has it been 9 years already
almost 10 years
goddamn
Damn its been 10 years
11 years
Me coming back to it in 2023: holy fuck I feel old, I remember watching this video at my grandparents old house with my cousin when we were both in like middle school, before I played prime 2 like a dozen or so times and before realizing man Johnny got a ton wrong in this video and he is way too negative, I’m hoping he’ll be more positive when he re-reviews it
Actually, Johnny, Nintendo added the ammo system to invoke a sense of fear. In fact, that's the whole concept of Prime 2, invoking fear and paranoia. The dark story and grim atmosphere all remind me of Resident Evil and I did get jump scared by enemies suddenly attacking on occasion, specifically Metroids, which I can never seem to predict when they will show up.
Gamer-Nation 108
Those Grenchlers, man....I thought they were just baby Sheegoth clones, until one of them JUMPED to the same platform I was standing on. Couldn't tell you how many swears I let loose after THAT first-time experience.
Metroid4ever yeah ikr? I hated the space pirates at first. I don't have trouble with them now, but those things killed me left and right
Chad Williams *fistbumps* hell yeah
But that's me.
the Comic Nation 108 invoke fear? more like annoyance because that is THE ONLY thing I feel when im almost out of ammo. you want something that invokes fear? go play metroid fusion cuz THAT game does a much better job at getting the player tense than prime 2 does
"My god it can attack the fourth wall!" I laughed so hard
idk why but i remember that part of the video having a better framerate. my guess is that somewhere, someone at youtube accidentally screwed up the video portion of that bit but was able to salvage the audio and that's why it's so stuttery nowadays
After getting the Annilhilator Beam from the boss in the Ing Hive, I tend to shoot the Light Crystals/Beacons with it. It causes many dark enemies to go running right into it.
I personally think that while Prime 1 is the more solid game, Prime 2 just has so much more gravitas and atmosphere to it's credit.
Yes
"Some missing GF troups, that went missing" Your writing definetly improved
What's with Nintendo's clone fetish? Dark Samus, Shadow/Dark Link, Shadow Mario, Dark Kirby, Mushroom Pikmin, etc.
Dark kirby? Do you mean metaknight? They are different. Mushroom pikmin are just pikmin being attacked by the mushrooms every thing else is true
*****
He means Shadow Kirby from the Amazing Mirror, though he was not evil. The Amazing Mirror also gave us Dark Meta Knight.
Don't forget dark pit ;)
Mario and Wario, Luigi and Waluigi, Bowser and Dark Bowser (Bowser's inside story), does Red & Blue count?
Clyde, I know Dark Mario is Bowser Jr. I'm strictly talking about him in his Mario state
I liked this the most out of the trilogy, sure there are some problems, but the levels are so good, especially Sanctuary Fortress.
The "Ing" looks almost suspiciously alot like the Shadow creatures from Twilight Princess...Peculiar.
the shadow creatures look a lot like the Ing
"You look very human. No you look very Timelord"
Also twilight princess came out two years after Metriod prime two so your implied argument is invalid.
This game came first. But yeah, both the creatures and the light/dark light/twilight themes are similar.
yeah it's similar
Who knows maybe when making Twilight princess they took interest in the Ing design?
I think Prime 2's strongest asset is its bosses. It had the most unique bosses in the series and the best use of the morph ball in combat.
@@MentallyIdiotic Alpha Blogg hitbox bs and the lack of checkpoints before it. Thank you and good day.
I love your videos, but GOOFY LIGHT SUIT?!
Thats the most badass suit of Samus of all time!!!
nope it silly
Well you're the minority guyy.
Cardigan Boy
Not exactly, nothing beat the gravity/phazon suit. Even the fusion suits look better than the echoes lineup
I Piss On Your Grave now that's just a lie
***** Hah, so true.
There is no game I am looking forward to John re-reviewing more than this one.
I really don't get all the hate for Echoes. I absoluteky love this game, and it's already my favorite game of all time.
I agree with you. Backtracking felt more of an irritant in Prime 1 than Prime 2.
I gotta say, after playing it for the first time just recently, MP2 is not as bad as you make it out to be. I mean, we can all have our opinions, but I honestly didn't find it as boring or repetitive as you did. Granted that Sky Temple key quest was a load of bullocks. It seems Nintendo had an affinity for those types of quests at end-game that generation, because not only did Prime have it, but Windwaker had it with the Tri-Force quest as well.
...and Hunters is not a bad game either.
+MaxxSkywalker Will agree that hunters is not bad but unfortunately it is unplayable now. My big man hands can't take the way the controls are like the way they could when I was 14.
i dont really get why people say this, especially with my huge hands. then again i play on an xl and i dont use the stylus controls.

Simply one of the best games on the GCN.
because people are blind, and they were blinded by the awful story of Other M.
Prime 2 isn't perfect by all means. But I still think it's a amazing game. I know why some people may not like the game. But it's really not that bad as people claim it to be.
I totally disagree with your video this is my favorite metroid game, but i enjoyed your video review and respect your opinions.

It always plays out in two ways:
1. Environments are too clichéd. (Forest, ice, lava, desert, etc,)
And when a game actually breaks that classic mold and tries subtler themes it becomes...
2. Bland and boring. Not memorable.
StllBreathnBut_Y you see there has too be some effort to make the world look better.
StllBreathnBut_Y I like torvus bog cause it reminds of tallon overworld :)
Just because something is subtle doesn't mean it's good.
Hard to believe this review is 10 years old. Keep on rocking Somecallmejohnny
It has it's flaws here & there. But even so, I still think it's a amazing game.
I think this has probably the best soundtrack of the trilogy.
I agree
Absolutely not. The first one does. The only theme that I legitimately enjoyed in this game was the remix of the lower brinstar theme from Super Metroid.
***** So is mine.
***** In my opinion, he's wrong.
gilgamesh310 so we disagree, don't lose sleep over it
The spider guardian is an absolute joke compared to what johnny makes it out to be.
What version were you playing?
The gamecube version.
+Toa Matoro Oh ok. Makes sense then.
Pingas Studios what other version is there besides the gamecube version
Kevin Matta Normal in wii is basically easy mode(veteran is normal), plus you can spring in ball mode by moving the contrôler.
Honestly, despite its problems, the fact that this game is like the first Prime is enough to make me love it.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, even though Prime 1 is my favorite Metroid game, Prime 2 is what I view as the apex of the trilogy. It's almost perfect.
Just finished Prime 2, and I loved it. The dark atmosphere, the hard bosses, the ambient music ... Better than Corruption, IMO.
Other m 7/10
Prime 2 6/10
i respect your opinion johnny but that doesn't make sense
And Prime 2 is my favorite metroid in my opinion
But in terms of the prime games how would you rate it?
Cause ive been thinking about getting it but I want an ultimate opinion on it
I give prime 1 8/10 and prime 2 9/10 but that's just my opininion
James Shepard I TOTALLY agree with the 6/10 score, but I haven't played Other M so I wouldn't be able to compare them.
+Good Hunter don't, other M is horrible and says fuck you to the metroid formula that gave birth to the current way castlevania handled itself ever since SOTN.
Maybe he had lower standards when he reviewed Other M. He DID say Sonic Chronicles was a good game only to rip on it a few years later.
For me it MP3>MP2>MP1.
I love all 3 games.
@@jjc4924 Yes
Austin Grider .... just use charged dark beam and missile on dark pirate commando = easier than chozo ghosts
Austin Grider bitch stfu the games was good
The Prime Trilogy version thankfully makes the game more tolerable than the Gamecube version.
The time that passed between the first Metroid Prime game and Prime 2: Echoes happens to be one and a half years.
i actually slightly prefer echoes over the first.. except that echoes backtracking is a bit more painfull but i never had any ammo troubles tbh....
I also liked the ammo system. It kept me from getting too OP'D and I found it easy to replenish the ammo. It also forces you to be strategic with your weapons, something that I think no other game did right except for Prime 2!
6.0 out of 10... Seriously? I just played this game recently and it was awesome!
Playing Prime Hunters when he says he hates it.... Me: Hey shut up I like this game
Y'know, I feel, looking back, that unnecessary padding was a huge recurring element in games from the GameCube/PS2/XBOX era. Granted, at that time "how long is the game" was the first question most people would ask, so I feel like that extra padding was there draw out playtime
Dark samus is most vulnerable to the dark beam not the power beam.
Take a shot for all the "You rated this lower than Other M!?!" comments.
Are you trying to kill us?
Surprisingly this is my favorite metroid game and my 2nd favorite game of all time, it posed a challange unlike the first prime, and the ammo system was balanced by the beams being VERY overpowered compared to the prime 1 beams. Also, even charging them to fire every shot while you're out of ammo still is FAR more effective than the power beam
I'm playing Prime 2 now, I feel your pain Johnny.
it's amazing how much of these games makes more sense when you wrap your head around the fact that Phazon A) learns how to possess machines and integrate technology (possibly even TAUGHT that by the space pirates), and B) has a hivemind that instantly communicates across _all Phazon, everywhere_
As far as I'm concerned, MP2 is the best game in the series. Having said that, my concessions are:
-The environments are more dull.
I remember loving this game... I never got past the spider guardian. But then I got the trilogy and beat them all!
I really like the Zeldafication that they managed to do without sacrificing the Metroid elements.
i used to suck at this game, but now i might actually think this is THE BEST METROID.
Suggestions for dark commandos, freeze them with the dark beam, and shatter them with a missile, that's it
Kritken I know right? Wait are you the guy that made those Metroid Fanarts of Bosses on Deviant Art?
Yeah, I think I know who you are
Kritken yes! I was the guy who requested the Chykka battle, both Larva and Adult.
Funny how it's 3 years later and he's already reviewed Prime Hunters.
Lol you gave Other M a higher score than Prime 2? Come on now.
+TophDaGreat Other M is a better game
+Harold Smith Joke of the week!!
Harold Smith We'll agree to disagree
Other M had better gameplay, graphics, music, story, and emotions.
Hands down my favorite game. And let me tell you, playing this game on drugs is WILD!
The forth wall joke had me dying, smashing the sub button my good man 🎉
So I'm currently playing through Metroid Prime 2 for the first time and Johnny I have no clue why you had so much trouble with the Boost Guardian, I beat him on my first try, literally just shoot charged light beams and the fight is over in 5 minutes, plus the save room isn't that far from it, you exaggerated it way too much.
I think this game deserves a short re-review. Wouldn't you say, Johnny?
A Round 2, lol
This is my favorite metroid game of them all but I can totally say it is not for everyone.
7:39 Seeker missiles might not be much in the original, but man can you really put them to use in the trilogy where all you do is hold the missile button and wave and you can get rid of ALL of those freaking war wasps. Or shriekbats, Or multiple jetpack space pirates.
here are my only complaints about Metroid prime 2
1. could have been a lot more enemies with a good ol' arsenal buff and with much less predictable ai
2. could have been a *LOT* darker and scarier
3. the overall difficulty factor could have been amped up even more than it already was (in consideration to hazards and environment)
4. not being able to steer the screw attack which made me have to calculate carefully when and where I should use it.
other than that it was hands down my favorite entry in all of Metroid history, BUT STILL, I want to be scared stiff and sweating bullets while playing this game alone in the dark.
This comment section: You will never find a more wretched hive of trolls and opinions.
The SGB Sonic Colors Review Comment Section is worst
I'll drink to that. I mean, just look at all the comments left by your typical Metroid fan.
KIDDING!
Not.
Proto Kirby Oh yeah you're right
Subtle Star Wars reference there, Proto Kirby. Paraphrasing one of Obi-Wan Kenobi's lines.
wow opinions in a commentary section how surprising..
I completely adore this game
One thing they absolutely nailed in this game was the atmosphere (I know, shocking, but hear me out). I'm mostly talking about the relationship between Samus and Dark Samus. I can't be bothered explaining it but this one guy in a video explained it amazingly, the name of the video is "Why Other M failed where the Prime Trilogy succeeded" or something like that, give it a watch
Dark comandos are pretty easy, charge the dark beam, shoot at one, if its teleporting the charged dark shot will follow them AND freeze them in place and with the dark visor this tactic is just as valid.
Anhilator has a nice use too which you didn't mention, it makes the ing commit suicide, only the possessed creatures won't, ingsmashers die with a power bomb.
it makes the ing commit suicide. wha-whaaaaat...... i never knew that. (starts sanctuary fortress to look for annihilator beam.)
Mastermind yeah, its pretty neat, dark beam acts like the ice beam too so freezing foes in particular possessed creatures that much of an advantage.
Miles Teg i can't believe i never knew this stuff. and I've been playing this game for about 8 years.
+Mastermind read the scans for the crystals after you have shot them with the beam, the scan mentions it attracts the igns.
Miles Teg alright.
This is actually my favorite Prime game :/
The world itself seems much darker and more depressing than the original, something I enjoy quite a bit.
In addition to this, the bosses in this game (at least to me) seem much more interesting. My favorite would have to be a cross between the Dark Chykka and the final battle with Dark Samus.
The Dark Chykka has to be one of the most boring bosses I've ever fought in a game.
gilgamesh310
Lol, MP1's bosses are all very boring except for the final boss. It's the only boss I died to in that game.
@@gilgamesh310 yeah MP1 bosses are really really really boring compared to any boss in MP2. MP2 bosses really get the blood flowing
People complaining about this game being scored lower than Other M, while I'm trying to figure out how it rated lower than Return of Samus for Gameboy. :/
Ryan Dennison he doesn't give games scores anymore :/
It’s a good thing the scores are gone, causes more trouble than it’s worth
Anyone else feel like you either think Echoes is meh or think its the best Metroid game. There is just no in between
Anthracite Fitting for a game based on light/dark duality. There is no in between.
I don't think it's the best but I still love it.
Finally someone feels the same as me, hates prime 2 but loves prime 1
Y
Jump On Everything I don’t hate Prime 2, it was still fine, but I didn’t find this game as memorable as Prime 1 and 3.
Just realized that the last 2D Metroid title came out a decade ago...
I feel old now
A year now
A Jolly Sonny Jim i love samus returns. One of my favorite metroid games. Here's hoping prime 4 will be awesome.
Yeah those Chozo Ghosts are the worst. Dark pirate commando, bitch please! Just fire a charged up dark beam, then fire missiles at them. No offense to Johnny.
I wonder if Johnny's gonna revisit the Prime Trilogy and make new videos about them, curious to hear his takes about these games today
He’s stated on Twitter that he’ll do it once Metroid Prime 4 has been given an official release date and Prime 2 and 3 have been remastered like how Prime 1 recently was.
prime 2 is insanely underrated
big agree. It feels like when people talk about prime as a series, all they really mean is 1. 2 and 3 still exist and are very good, with 2 imo being very arguably better than 1. At the very least 2 should get more widespread recognition for the classic it is. Best we can hope for is a Trilogy on switch I guess
@@twincherries6698 we can only hope for a port to the switch prior to 4!
Don't worry Johnny, the dark commandos are not worse than the dark chozo ghost.
I was incredibly dissappinted when the Dark and Light Beams had ammo in Prime 2, because it became a hassle that Prime 1 didn't have.
of course I played the first one. I got it for 8.99
golbezchaoslord Honestly, I didn't have too much of a problem with the ammo system...that said, one aspect made me question its implementation in the first place - the fact that you can still use the beam even after your ammo is depleted by charging it.
For the dark commandos, just charge a dark beam then fire it when you see them and shoot missiles. They're that easy.
12:30 the boost gardian is the only thing i agree on, that boss is unbelievable
Dark commandos are easy peasy, dark beam charge into missile
I have to disagree. Echoes is a godlike game.
Pure Genius.
it always surprises me when i go back to older videos and I actually remember them being released.. damn I been a fan for a long time.
