    I used to own one of these and it was a seriously good car. Even though mine had a lot of minor problems from the moment I bought it, even though I never knew how many miles it'd done, even though I ruined it with my teenage driving and anti-maintenance, it managed to keep me alive and moving during a lot of sketchy situations. When I worked at a ski resort it never once failed me on the ice even though it's only fwd. The biggest drawback was that it wasn't the cheapest cars to fix in the states, so whenever something did go wrong it sucked up lots of cash. But I could go 120 in it and that was all my adolescent brain ever wanted so I loved it. After I crashed and scrapped it I even saved its badge, which'd fallen off in the accident.

      That’s a really heartfelt story. Volvo’s really do make nice cars, especially older ones for the price

    I worked in the workshop office of a Volvo dealership for 15 years between 1992 & 2007. Good, solid cars.

    I'm very satisfied with my 2003 v40. It has a diesel 1.9 engine with common rail system that provides 115 hp. Very comfortable and reliable car, I have never had any serious problems with it. Even though it's a 15 year old car with 220k kilometers on the clock it still drives like a charm.

    I drive a 98 Volvo v40 1.8. Solid motor, just keeps going, going and going. It has 190k on the clock. I'm quite young and I'm always asked to update my car. Why should I, I love it.

      The 1.8 is bullet-proof. I see them with over half a million kilometers for sale sometimes.
      Drive that thing till the wheels fall off. That goes for any solid old school vehicle. They really don't make them like this anymore.

    I inherited an 02' with 32k miles from my grandmother. I've put 10k miles on it in the last 3yrs. I've had to do a few things to keep it going, but overall I love it.

    This car brings me back memories of my niece driving it around until my then, 19-year-old great-niece damaged it while trying to avoid a collision in 3018

      She swerved really early then if she only was going to collide 1000 years later.

    its the Volvo V40 2. Generation (Phase 2) ! NOT Generation 1 (Phase 1) !

    • @DualShockTree
      @DualShockTree 5 лет назад +1

      _im Bunkerbrenntnochlicht_ he meant it was the first generation V40 rather than the new V40 hatchback, because it is. Phase II cars are just facelifted Phase I cars basically, they are the same car, generation wise. Just a big jump in terms of facelifts.
      But overall, they were of the same generation. Just Phase II cars are superior to Phase I versions because of technical and mechanical improvements to the engines, brakes, suspension setup, chassis and safety rating and innovations.

    I am deliberating whether to buy a 2004 1.6 with 115k miles for £695. It comes with loads of history including a belt and water pump change. It seems under-priced to me.

    Hello folks and Volvo V40 owners! I am considering buying a Volvo V40 2.0 T from 2002. Can you also verify that it is a good choice? What should I check when I get to the shop?
    Thanks in advance! :)
