      So personally I have never owned a credit card, never needed one, but should I actually get one to start my credit. I'm decent at budgeting and absolutely hate owing money on anything so I always pay anything quickly. But everyone I talk to says to get one. I know that it goes against what is said often on this channel from what I have seen. Looking for advice on if there is any reason to get one and make small purchases on it or should I just stay where I am and keep savings for things?

    • @tonynguyen4278
      @tonynguyen4278 4 месяца назад +10

      @@RealCryo Nothing wrong with having or getting a credit card. You sound like you would be the type that pay off your balance in full every month. You aren't charged interest if you pay the full statement balance before the due dates. By doing that you can benefit from the rewards and cash back // points offered by said company. Building a credit history will help you whenever you need a loan for a mortgage or car. Those are huge purchases you may not have the cash for outright so a credit history is important. Just remember, pay your FULL statement balance and you'll be good!

    • @cronus9981

      @@RealCryo Caleb isnt against credit cards, hes against not paying them off every month.
      If you know you will pay it off it can be a nice fund for random fun purchases up to and including rhe occasional vacation.
      If you miss even one payment or leave a balance even one time it CAN cost more that its worth.
      It is entirely dependent on you personal ability to look at credit as debt and not "extra money"

There are medical, emotional, and nurtured-in habits that make it hard to not eat. Budgeting your money and your calories is a heavy load if you're not ready. Gotta have a "why" to have discipline. Caleb, speaking as a person who has struggled with weight all my life (I'm 63 now), I very much appreciate the sensitive way you approached that. It was especially effective in using your own story to relate. That was not fat shaming at all. Also, I am noticing her hair thinning in the front. She may be dealing with PCOS which makes it difficult to lose weight.

He doesn’t mention that for thin people because thin people aren’t suffering from weight problems. She mentions herself she has back pain and I’m sure her weight contributes to that in some capacity if not entirely.

Since then, I’ve paid off all of my credit cards and just today I paid off the last $4,500 of a $12,000 personal loan from previous stupid credit card purchases. Thanks so much for the show, I still have work to do, but my behaviors are still improving and I’m beginning to build a more substantial emergency fund than the $1K I’ve saved for now.

    Yikes. I feel kinda sorry for this girl. Her saying that she'll "die happy" because she ate tasty treats is the last thing she'll be thinking of on her deathbed. I work with all kinds of patients and ive worked with several who have actively passed as i was comforting them, holding their hand, trying to be an emotional support system to them and their families, and dying happy isnt what they're thinking. They're scared, unresponsive, incapacitated, in physical pain, anguish or cant breathe. Better to actually value your life while you still can, have "treats" everyone ONCE in a great while, and manage your life, finances, career, mental and physical health and wellbeing so you can live a peaceful life. This girl is still really young so theres hope for her, but as a former prediabetic and overweight person, too many treats can bite your ass in the end. Good luck to her.

    Hey Caleb, love your channel and what you do. Since finding the show a few months ago, I have made so much better progress than I was alone. I was up to 13k in CC debt with 12 cards between my wife and I. All 30%. Since opening them we have lost 13,000 in interest (your show taught me to go calculate this and track it!) and we now have paid off 3 of the card with the snowball method (no emergency fund right now but we are military so I feel like we are a bit safer there because AER exists and the debt is burying us.) and now we have only 9k in CC debt and still hacking at it. We applied to be on the show and I hear you yelling at me in my head all the time lol. I even went out and got a job at dominos just to make extra money on top of our income to keep attacking (our household income is now like 130k a year!) and we plan to be out of CC debt by end of year then save up 10k emergency fund, payoff RV (horrible decision years ago) and save up 40k for a house downpayment when my wife retires in 10 years. Thank you so much for this show. I'm not perfect according to your rules but I'm much better and slowly improving more by changing lifestyle bit by bit. We can do it. Anyone can do it. Thank you so much. Our 3 kids won't be responsible for us when we are old because of you, and they will be thankful for your show because of that as well.

    "Why do you want that car, is it to impress your friends? How has that worked? Would they stop liking you if you had a cheaper car? Maybe you should get better friends"
