Eric Kripke, co-creator of The Boys, said that the fly happened on accident and he left it in because TV shows never actually show flies even though they’re everywhere in real life.
Interesting that you guys interpreted Starlight saying "this place isn't what I remember" to mean "it's got Vaught all over it." I thought it was pretty clear that she's referring to just how bigoted and close-minded some of the religious community is - the anti-gay signs saying "FLY STRAIGHT", or the priest subtly nudging her to lie to teens about being a virgin and waiting for marriage, because sex "defiles" you. I think it's capturing a common reality of many religious people growing up and becoming a bit more independent and worldly: subtle issues that used to fly under the radar become much more noticeable, and they realize that there may have been harmful messages hiding among all the genuinely inspirational/helpful messages.

What she was saying is she is seeing the place in a whole new light. Vought had been there when she was a little girl and you can actually see she is super uncomfortable with the incredibly conservative Christianity that is offered by the priest to those teens. Starlight still believes in God but she is starting to see that the evangelical Christianity she grew up in is not as good as she remembered.
Pretty much this ep sets up why Homelander is the way he is with Madeline, if supers are made then it’s likely he was raised in a lab, sonhe never really had parents and never had a mother. Madeline is a female authority figure in his life, perhaps the only one he has ever had, so he’s never had that closeness of a mother coddling him, but he’s a grown man so basically has mommy issues. And she seems to know this and knows how she can use it to manipulate and emotionally control him since there is no real way to control him any other way because he’s just all powerful.

Yea starlight is the equivalent of a normal religious person they did a good job with that but I think seasons 2 and 3 also handle the "woke" topic pretty well too

My sister is in her 20s, and anytime we rewatch something she has only seen once, she's always surprised and tells me that its cus she didn't remember that and I always thought it was crazy but yea most people don't remember a lot if they only see it once and don't watch review or reactions

Well, some people - adults included - are night owls; their natural cycles legitimately function better during night hours, compared to the normal and/or morning bird types. it sounds so bad when you mix out the background noise from the clips, and the actors' language also sounds very choppy and brittle, and this unnatural silence when nobody says anything. just refrain from doing that.
