@@GetOffset It was caught by his tech, his tech also held his back for the big leen back he did. The George Harrison tribute turned into the Prince show lol. There is no doubt in my mind that George Harrison would have been thrilled to see someone take his song and super charge it with a serious solo, not the generic Clapton solo we can all play verbatim as Winwood was doing. What a treat eh? Dhani was saying it was to 'gratuitous' It's Rock n Roll and he dishonours his father making remarks like that.Frankly it's one of those historical moments in music. Prince was great at choosing his battles, meaning the actual solo wasn't that hard to play but it's the delivery, he knew exactly what to do to that piece of music. A lost legend paying tribute to a lost legend.

My TE80 NT just arrived and it's very nice. My frets were dressed pretty well. My only issue was that the action was way high and the .010 strings were a bit of a surprise. A change to NYXL 009's and a bit of saddle height adjustment was all it took. I really do like the relatively high output of the Roswill pickups compared to my AS Tele. Thanks for the Scratch-it tip!

Great playing and great guitar review. I bought one of these a few ago and had a lot of work done to it. Changed the electronics (pots and pickups). Installed locking tuners, replaced the pickgaurd with a higher quality tortoise celluloid, filed/polished the frets, and got a good setup. The axe is definitely a tank. I think mine tipped the scales at closer to 11 lbs. It’s a beast though and with my mods it was several times cheaper than an actual Japanese Honer Prince” Mad Cat. Sounds good and feels great...

Pickup imbalance seems like a big issue, at least with this particular example. It could possibly be mitigated by height adjustment. Which I guess boils down to the usual caveat: when buying inexpensive guitars, know how to work on them.

    • @GetOffset

Thanks so much! the thing about the pickups is they're really not tele pickups at all, which is true to what Prince had. That's not the first comment I've gotten that the pickups don't sound good -- I do think they're relatively low output. I just don't know if I can justify getting new pickups for a guitar that I'll never play out because of its weight.

I had the same experience with the TE-52, great guitar but so dang heavy - I swapped it for a Bullet Squier Tele which is way lighter. Eventually I want to add a tremolo arm/bridge, a middle vintage pickup and a killswitch. Like your playing and your style. Love from across the pond x

Bahahah, the spatula is actual in the music room, because it's the only way to get the dual-lock pedals off the pedal board. Some people have one band and one pedal board set up, I have a lot of different gigs and need to swap stuff around a lot.

It sounds great but more Strat like because of the pickups. Of you want a great affordable Tele you should look into a Squier Classic Vibe 50’a Tele. They are an exceptional bang for the buck. I like the Harley Benton quite a bit but my Classic Vibe Squier Strat is a cut above. The Classic Vibes are made off the old patent and it is hard to screw up a Fender. Also, as Get Offset says, it's a bit heavy.

Harley benton continue to shock me with how good they are. I can buy them on a whim as an impulse purchase like I'd buy a chocolate bar from a supermarket at the checkout. Yet they're incredibly well made instruments. And they sound amazing. I honestly don't have a clue how they sell them for so cheap, because they are making a profit off of them, somehow. Is it slave labour, like with iPhones? I dunno
But yeah I'll continue to buy them. I really like this idea, a telecaster using strat pickups. I kinda have that already, I have a fender strat that is a very rare model that I can't seem to find much about it, even though I only bought it 15 years ago. It has a button on it that turns the bridge pickup on, when you're on the neck position. i.e. it gives you they middle position on a tele tone, the bridge and neck together
It also turns the bridge pickup on when you're in the middle-neck position, so basically it has all 3 pickups on at once, and I rarely use that setting, but yeah it's the most quacky tone of any instrument fender have ever made. It's that signature fender quack, but turned up to 11
But yeah I have a normal tele. So having a tele that uses strat pickups, it's interesting to me. And I love the look of it, and the association with Prince who's music remains some of the best ever, and he was so shockingly good at guitar, he wasn't known for it, but he could shred with the best of them.
So yeah, why not? I might just buy this on an impulse, no reason not to

Maple veneer needs to be a bit more quilted n slightly darker other then that n the original guard that's tits but Thoman is notorious for using younger cuts of wood the selection is also cheaper where as older woods have dried out n they say the more pores the guitar is the more resonate why there more of a premium plus prs, gibson, fender all have a stock of old wood having existed company wise but can feel the vibration through out when you strum a note n that's what makes some of those guitars more desirable in wood selections
