A year ago, my mom who is a artist got to visit the fortress in Marstrand to have some painting lessons in there. I'd also recomnend getting pictures of the fortress while the sun is setting, i can almost guarantee it will be the best picture you've ever taken.

I studied economics in Uppsala. It was one of my best years of my life. Uppsala Cathedral is, in my opinion, the most beautiful cathedral in all of Sweden. I was last in Uppsala in june this year together with my friends from student days for a reunion. It was so funny. on Sunday we went to the Botanical Garden up by the Castle on a guided tour. Very beautiful parks and interesting stories. I love to go to Uppsala from time to time. I have so many great memories from that city. Uppsala is Sweden's fourth largest city today. And the University is one of the oldest in the world. Founded in the 16th century. So there is a lot of history and traditions you get to experience when you study there. 👍🇸🇪🎶

Totally agree, the clip is called "places" but it only shows cities and some buildings. It is enough to visit one or perhaps two cities, then there is so much else to experience, nature, waterfalls etc. I have personally never liked big cities. I rather drive around Sweden by car and hike to scenic "places", only visit small towns to get sleep or get what I need, then quickly get out of there. Camping in Sweden is also nice since you are allowed to do it pretty much anywhere.
Västerås is never on these videos. Why. I mean. Here in our castle, our soon to be king fought in the battle of vasteras. It was also here that sweden kicked catholism out and we went protestants. Delegates from the pope where here in the castle. We have a lot of history here and beautiful places. Like anundshög and so on. Very beautiful city. Swedens first high school is here and so on.
As a Swede I must say there are so many more places to visit in Sweden. This video covers some cities, mostly the biggest, a few "summerplaces" and the Ice hotel. If you're into history, architecture and visit the most expensive "summerplaces" it's OK. If you like nature and smaller places with an interesting history it's not even close... It's a rather large country and long from North to South and have a long coast at the Sea, but also a lot of lakes. In the summer you find a lot of people somewhere by the Sea or by a lake. (If you like bathing/swimming I recommend to check the temperature in the water first - it's not always above 20°C...) If you like to escape hot wheather, the mountains in the north of Sweden can often offer quite cold wheather even in the summer - but it can be hot there also, some days, but mostly just a few days every year. And the nature is always spectacular in the mountains. The skiresorts can often offer affordable accomodations in the summer...

Skåne became Swedish in 1332 when the Swedish king Magnus Eriksson bought those parts, and that were later confirmed in 1343. The Danes took it by force in 1360 but it got liberated (permanently?) in 1658. Not sure that the Danes will agree though :p They show way to little from the north of Sweden, and to much from cities. They kind of miss 80% of the country and a lot of amazing places. Not that those historical cities are amazing.
The most beautiful place IMO in Sweden is in Utanede in the Northern part of Sweden. I believe your wife would love this place. No. I am SURE!! It is called: The Thai Pavilion, and is a memory of King Chulalogkorn's visit to Sweden in 1897. It is the only Royal Pavilion outside of Thailand. The pavilion was built in 1997-1998 and inaugurated the following year to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the visit. Thai monks were flown in, and were on hand before it began to bless the construction of the pavilion. When it was time for the carvings, King Rama IX sent his own personal carpenters to do the job. Many Thais living in Sweden and Europe (and also from Thailand too of course) have visited the place and the majority of them return occasionally. Boat to Gotland isn't a problam even during the summer but might not be able to go the same day. Accommodations on the orher needs to be booked in advanced I would say and some week I would stay clear, like Almedalsveckan(just a lot of politician) or Medeltidsveckan(unless your are really into midevil stuff).
The Young Wallander show on Netflix is eh decent I guess. The only actor who's actually Swedish is the guy playing Wallander, the rest of the cast are mostly British I think. It wasn't even recorded in Malmö, Ystad, or Skåne in general. I think they recorded in Ireland or something.
Mastrand castle or as it really is called is Carlsten´s castle have both been a castle and a prison. In many of the castle´s there is guids that tell more of the history about them.

To be fair I never made it further than the third recommendation, which is Uppsala. He managed to get the castle somewhat OK, but in Uppsala the castle is not the main thing , it's the church(es). Swedish christianity started in Västergötland, around Skara/Husaby/Varnhem in the 9/10th century, but it gained it powers when the archbishops seat was set here in Uppsala in 1164. The Uppsala cathedral is the largest church in all of Scandinavia. It's construction began in 1293 and was concluded in in 1435 (many pauses in the building process due to economic struggles caused by pestilence and wars). It is still the greatest church in Sweden and the final resting place of Gustaf Vasa, Johan III, and Carl von Linné, biologist and physician that formalised binomial nomenclature. the system of naming organisms (for example: Human = Homo Sapiens). Just beside it lies Heliga Trefaldighets kyrka (Holy Trinity church) and a couple of miles away lies Gamla Uppsala (Old Uppsala) with the old archchbishopry church and the old Kungshögarna (Kings mounds). This was the site of the old pagan temple, said to be devoted to Tor (Thor), Oden (Odin) and Frej. Here, it is said that there stood a great elm tree where they, in pagan times, hung all the offerings to the gods including humans. This is unclear if it is true, however. The man who wrote about it (Adam of Bremen) was likely exaggerrating the pagan atrocites in order to gain moral superiority over the local power. It had no way to respond since it was illiterate, other than runes. Anyway, REALLY bad presentation of Uppsala, as I am shure you will find out if you ever visit Sweden.

The government has not built the houses in Smögen. They probably paid for the surrounding infrastructure but the houses are privately owned and built.
