- Turning on a water softener after a long time of no usage:
Do you want to turn on a water softener that has been off for an extended period of time? There are a few things to do before you reconnect the water softener in order to ensure that the water output product is as clean as possible.
1. Backwash your water softener. In order to this you will need to engage the Regeneration Cycle, used to clean the softening resin. Hold Down the REGEN button on your water softener (if it has one, if not, you will need to check with your water softener manual) until you hear the motor begin. You will then pay attention to the screen and continue to cycle through the regen steps (by either hitting NEXT or REGEN again) until you see "BW" or "BACKWASH" on the screen. The normal backwash duration period can vary- we suggest unplugging the power to the water softener in order to keep the water softener on that backwash stage for at least 15 minutes. You can then plug in the water softener back to power and run through the last regen steps.
2. Clean the brine tank. With continuous usage, dust and sediment will build-up in bottom of the brine tank and can affect the cleaning ability of the water softener. Disconnect the brine tank, remove the salt and wash the inside of the tank with water & a mild disinfectant or with a steam cleaner.
3. Use a mineral cleaner to remove any iron or other mineral buildup inside the mineral tank. Refer to guidelines set by the manufacturer for directions on how to use the cleaner.
After completing these steps, let the water softener run through 3 FULL Regeneration cleanings. Do this by holding down the REGEN button and then letting the system finish on its own. TIP: You can tell that the system has finished a complete REGEN cycle when the clock/time shows up on the screen.
Follow these steps to ensure you get your water softener as clean as possible. After this is an ideal time to test the hardness and see what condition your water softener is in. If the softness is not to your liking, than an overhaul may be the next cost-effective step.

Thank you for this, we just purchased a home with a system installed and no kind of helpful info was left.
I see your system filters and softener the water using pellets salt. Is the water coming out from the system good to use with an ionizer machine like Kangen? I'm concerned about the the filtration process used ( ion exchange, Calcium, Mag, are substituted with sodium ions) Could it be so high in salt that may affect the ionizer or quality water ?
Using a water softener that employs ion exchange before an ionizer machine like Kangen can have implications for the water quality and the functioning of the ionizer. In ion exchange water softeners, minerals like calcium and magnesium are typically replaced with sodium ions. This process reduces water hardness, which is beneficial for preventing scale buildup in plumbing and appliances.
However, introducing softened water to an ionizer, such as a Kangen machine, has a few considerations:
Sodium Content: The softened water will have higher sodium content. While the increase in sodium is generally modest and not a health concern for most individuals, it might affect the taste of the water and potentially impact the ionization process.
Effectiveness of Ionizer: Ionizers are designed to work with certain mineral compositions. Softened water, having a different mineral profile (lower in calcium and magnesium, higher in sodium), might affect the ionization efficiency or the quality of the ionized water.
Maintenance and Longevity: The altered mineral content in softened water could potentially impact the maintenance needs or longevity of the ionizer machine. It's important to consult the manufacturer's guidelines to understand if softened water is appropriate for use with their equipment.
Water Quality and Health Implications: If you are concerned about the sodium intake from softened water, especially when used with an ionizer, it's important to consider dietary sodium restrictions or health implications. Some people opt for a potassium chloride-based softener instead of sodium chloride to avoid this issue.
In summary, while using softened water in an ionizer like Kangen is technically feasible, it's important to consider the changes in mineral content and how this might affect the performance and maintenance of the ionizer, as well as the taste and health implications of the altered sodium content. It's advisable to consult with the ionizer manufacturer and possibly test the water quality before and after ionization to ensure it meets your needs and standards.
Do you have a video on what the settings mean?
No but that is great idea for one. We will let you know when it is up or follow our channel to stay upfated.
One of these days I need to call you again to make sure ours is on the right settings o & do you do house calls in Indiana lol
Unfortunately no house-calls in Indiana....yet! But call us if you have any questions.
@@garciawatercare do you remember talking to me about a year ago? You are so helpful and kind I gave up my alkaviva machine for this I do not think it compares unless the settings are not right
@@dawnmeyers1966 yes, I do remember speaking to you. Hope all is well! Can't believe it's been a year!!!
