The Jefferson battle is the best litmus test. Frederick Douglass brought nothing to be battle except calling Jefferson racist. People going nuts over it are always the ones not actually paying attention to the lyrics.
I mean, it's a very good point to hammer home, and Douglass does it *exceptionally* well in the first verse, which remains one of the best of the season, if not the series. The real problem with the battle is Jefferson's total lack of a second verse, which really takes it from less of a battle to more of an execution... Which is why it ultimately falls a bit flat as a video, despite being filled with great lyrics.
Jefferson had a better and more consistent flow, but Douglas had way more punches. "You let freedom ring but never picked up the phone" is a killer. Jefferson never had a counter for that and went on the defense.
