Thank you for sharing some RD testing! If you're gonna test and compare two RD's, you really can't run multiple at the same time like that. That's rule number one of radar detector testing. Because detectors emit radar themselves, they will interfere with one another and cause missed alerts and delayed alerts like you saw, false alerts, and so on. This is why your results are so surprising and don't make sense. If you want valid results, you MUST test them one at a time by doing multiple runs.
I've been using an old excort X50 and it goes off all the time. I just bought a Radenso Pro Se and I went out for a drive, using the excort and then the Radenso. The Radenso was great at picking up Ka and ignoring false alerts. There was a cop stationed about a mile down the road just over a hill. I did separate runs using each. The escort was at full alert to a known false and picked up the cop in decent distance. The Radenso ignored the known false and picked up the cop as soon as I turned around. Just for the heck of it, I plugged them both in at the same time. It had little effect on the Escort X50, but the Radenso was all over the place, it didn't pick up the cop until about 3/4 of a mile, dropped the signal, a little later picked it up again and dropped it and then picked it up just a few feet from where he was sitting. Did the runs, 4 times, not a lot, but when running separately the Radenso is far better. The Escort X50 to my untrained eye did a pretty decent job and in this situation would have been enough to prevent a ticket, but it was going off all the time, from blindspot and collision avoidance systems. I had a Max II for a week, took it on a trip, but it was so noisy, I turned it off.
Just a tip... If you place two radar detectors next to each other they can actually interfere with each other. They use super heterodyne receivers that actually emit radio frequency interference by products. This is the principle on which VG2 and Spectre radar-detector detectors work. A better test would be to show the same route twice using each detector solo.
I personally run a Whistler XTR 338 and it works wonders. once in a blue moon I'll pick up false alarms but only on x and k, which tend to pick up blind spot detection and security systems. the Ka and L have never given a false alarm and saved me from multiple tickets. might not be an expensive radar, but definitely does it's job. I absolutely love it.
With certain things yes. N that sarcasm would’ve been hilarious if it made sense lol..this guy is comparing more like an actual cheap supercharger vs a name brand supercharger ..
The close proximity of the radar detectors in your test is a huge variable as to their functionality. You're not supposed to operate them both so closely.
That's exactly what I was thinking, I was about to make a similar comment explaining how the radar detectors won't give an accurate reading while they are all operating on the same frequencies so close together.
I was also thinking the exact same thing. Also, Automatic doors on shops can trigger these things into a false alarm. I've typically found that Banks are the worst offenders because they were early adopters of the Automatic Doors, hence they use a leaky KA radar to figure out when something is moving towards the sensor. Newer ones use IR.
@@dova5944 Radar Detectors have oscillators like Radar Guns. Because of that, they do unintentionally emit radio signals. RDDs like the Spectre can pick up the leaky signal coming from most Radar Detectors. Cheap Radar Detectors are also known to cause other Radar Detectors to false alert.
I got my first radar detector for $99 and it's been a godsend. I find it makes me drive more safely specifically because it is cheap so I do not rely on it fully. It's a great tool.
Had a hardwired KA40 in my last E39, that seemed to work quite well. Sensor was on the front license plate bracket, saved me from 2-3 tickets over a 2 year ownership.
Many of the newer cars that have active cruise control and also Lane detection radar use some of the bands that you're probably picking up as faulse alarms on the Whistler. It's time to get a Valentine.
Parker! Take this down and stop spreading false info! The two right next to each other hinder their true abilities! Take this down, and do the test with them NOT running right next to each other at the same time!! I hope you read your comments..
I think the worst thing but you could do is blaze both detectors Next to each other, Just because cheap whistlers do you produce a lot of false signal!
Great idea, but you need to separate the detectors as far away as possible. This may help avoid any potential interference between the two detectors. The best test would be to run each detector separately and measure distance by GPS or other means.
I'm also going to add as an escort owner, if you aren't speeding, the detector will not go off as early. the "auto" mode detects vehicle speed via GPS and increases sensitivity as you go faster and faster. to really make it perform, set it to highway mode. and like others have said, radar detectors themselves emit radar. which is likely why the Escort is staying silent while the whisper is going nuts. also, cheaper detectors send out more radar, so the Escort has much more to filter out.
Placing two radar detectors next to each other is often known to negatively effect results, so this test is pretty flawed off the bat. This could also be a HUGE reason why the Whistler was giving false KA alerts so frequently. Would have also been nice to know what frequency KA you were using (34.7, 35.5, etc.), as many radar detectors perform better on various KA frequencies.
jacob harrison Correct, many radar detectors can detect laser…however in most cases, by the time your radar has detected the laser, your speed has already been acquired and the radar is pretty much just notifying you that you're screwed. The only real defense against LIDAR is to invest in laser jammers
The escort 9500is about $250 $300 I have one and it’s saved me countless times. It also registers false alarms so if you drive by a store that has a radar for the door after a couple times you drive by it will remember it and won’t go off. It’s great.
still love my passport 8500. got it from my father on my 18th birthday and hasn't left my car in the past 15 years. run it on highway mode at all times.
The experts say don't put two side by side as there will be interference!! I've had the 360 and a First Alert radio shack cheapo and they both performed the same.
In the United States we do have speed detectors with cameras attached to them that take pictures of your cars license plate if you're speeding. We have them in Maryland DC and I believe Virginia
Definitely worth paying more. You don't even need a 650$ one although I have the max 360 I had the redline and that other 9500ix before that. The range was so much better than my previous cobras also sometimes a cobra won't catch instant on. Also, the escorts have picked up some pretty impressive ranges, around corners, up and down hills. Having both in the car interferes with one another. I've had the escort go off several miles from cops checking other cars. Try each on there own. Also the arrows are nice so your not looking everywhere.
1 year old but gotta be at peace... They are RIGHT next to each other making interference VERY possible. I haven’t seen your newer videos but I hope you learned this.
I have an 80$ radar detector, and you didn’t say whether the 50$ even promised 360 protection. But my 80$ one said it had 360 and I’ve learned what causes false alarms, example: newer suvs, certain areas in town. You learn the false alarms quite well and the 360 on mine is pretty good if it’s actually pointed to see out the back window which you also didn’t do with the cheap one. Unfair tests, yes the cheap ones will have false alarms but it’s super easy to find out what is causing them and you can be sure that if it’s going off somewhere with Ka band signals where you know there’s no false alarms there is indeed a cop.
The first part with detection time and range was really bad. 1st, anybody who is looking into a radar detector knows not to place them that close. 2nd going around bends like that one almost nullifies any radar dectector. You should test in more practical and realistic areas like the one you used for the false alarms. If your speeding around bends like that where even radar dectectors have a hard time you deserve that ticket lol.
WAY BETTER than your other video. Side by side comparisons can't be beat. Nice job. The false alarms could be from a parallel road where there is a cop using Ka band! Your test isn't that good for the false alarms.
I've used a $100 cobra something or other from Autozone before and I learned that it will "alert" to a level 1 k band usually when i get a text, pandora loads a song, or when my phone is about to get a call.
Actually the test was completely inaccurate. Putting two radar detectors in such close proximity causes false alarms, delayed alerts, and other issues. The radar detectors needed to be tested separately.
My cheap Cobra radar detector picks up a lot of false alarms from other cars that have either blind spot monitoring or any type of radar such as for adaptive cruise control
The Whistler false alarms are reflections, it is so little tuned that it picks up all regular radars through reflections. Corners through mountains are bad for all radar detectors, however cheap ones help because of random reflections.
I just bought an escort max360.... I love how u can lock out x and k band and has GPS inputs to further eliminate false alarms... I just hate how it alerts you on red light cams even tho you are nowhere near it or on an overpass
you cannot or should not run the radar detectors at the same time on your windshield it will give you false information on performance..please check out Vortex Radar explaining this you should know this if you are trying to do a proper test
This would have been a lot more interesting if he had chosen to test the Escort against the Whistler CR85. No surprise the Escort spanks one of the cheapest bottom of the barrel Whistlers, but the CR85 can be had for around $120 and is a very solid device. I have one myself and it has paid for itself multiple times over. It has more advanced filtering to prevent false positives from things like door openers and blind spot detection on newer cars. It also has GPS to notify you of red light cameras. The CR85 probably still wouldn't outperform a top of the line Escort, but the margin in performance would have been A LOT smaller, not to mention that the Whistler is still 1/5 the price.
The cheaper radar detectors can be set off by the backup sensors on newer cars. I experienced false alarms with my Cobra unit and the support techs said that older (and cheaper) units don't adequately filter out those signals, hence, excessive false alarms.
Just an FYI. As far as false alarms go, I noticed a Cadillac pass you in traffic before that last extended KA alarm. GM and other manufacturers (Most notably Audi, Kia and Hyundai) use the KA band (35.5) for their anti-collision radar. That's why there are times when a radar detector will go off for miles with no law enforcement car in sight. If you ask me , it's collusion to discourage the use of detectors in the first place. JS
Bella Winslow my family used to live in LA and it's not as obvious as a police car just pulling up next to you. What cops do is they just say they were "pacing" you and make up a speed. They have to do this because state law does not allow for radar guns to be used on city streets that have not been surveyed in recent years, to put this into perspective about 3/4 of LA streets have not been surveyed.
I have a Uniden R3 paired with waze but I dont always rely on it because if a cop is sitting with their radar off and waiting till cars get close or pass by to flip it on it renders the radar detector pretty much useless in the same sense if you get hit by a laser.
I would suggest taking a look at RDforum (www.rdforum.org/content/) & browsing around to find a radar that suits you (one of my favorite websites when it comes to seeing which new radar detector to get). As of right now, the best results are coming from the Uniden R1 & R3 :)
Please equalize your volume levels. In the beginning I had to set the volume all the way up to hear what is going on, the next moment my windows began to fall apart.
I have the different version of the Whistler Detector. It goes off if there is an Audi or GM vehicle in front. Most likely A6, A7, A8, Escalade, Yukon, Tahoe, Suburban, Acadia models. Not sure their Blindside sensors or frontal collision warnings. Maybe both. But it is my experience with Whistler all day long...
I have the whistler. It definitely does go off a lot but my false alarms are usually X band. Could be due to area. I’d try putting it in city mode to see though. My KA band usually only does off if there is a cop. Or if it goes off rapidly it’s a false alarm
Hey V V, I honestly like the way you explain and compare stuff, specially the running commentary is very good. Coz these days people make videos but dont know to talk on a microphone. Maybe you guys should re do the test like Vortex Radar said
I have a 25 yo whistler. Bought it refurbished. It gives false reading when meeting 18 wheelers and store alarm systems but has never let me down. Keeps me alert.
What I'm curious about is how they handle vehicles that have radar in their nose. Some newer cars use radar for adaptive cruise control systems. Could you maybe do a test on this?
If I buy a $650 radar detector, I better be able to detect cops on the moon
DrGETLOWDUDE it also better detect the coming of jesus and his apostles themselves

TRUE! Especially with that whistler which gives off as much RF as some radar guns. A totally worthless and misleading video

PLEASE stop referring to it as a "radar". It detects radar. It is not a radar
one of the main reason, why americans call something that is a liquid (gasoline/petrol), a gas. Yes totally nothing wrong with that.
I have a Uniden R3 paired with waze but I dont always rely on it because if a cop is sitting with their radar off and waiting till cars get close or pass by to flip it on it renders the radar detector pretty much useless in the same sense if you get hit by a laser.
2:19 more like pac man to me
I’ve got the escort ixc and it was well worth the money I’ve picked up radar from 4 miles away on the interstate
man you read my mind, in the market for a radar detector right now
TexasMudbug728 what one you going with?
TexasMudbug728 Same here man. Was thinking of buying a used Valentine one.
Buy valentine!!!!!
TexasMudbug728 I like my v1, but even in advanced logic mode you will have a lot of false alarms in a busy city, San Antonio here.
Dope video. Creative and helpful.
6:12 he missed a gear LOL
I got the valentine one on my super bee personally and it's about 400 and it's definately just as good as anything else cheaper or more expensive.
who runs radar detectors? I don't even speed that much, sike I do but don't get caught
That purple tint in the Camaro back window tho....
Sparkle window cleaner for the win on tint.
Where's the m5
I have the Escort Passport 9500IX that has paid for itself many times over the 3 years.
4:40 u sound like a robot
He does 😂😂
Uniden R3 works the best! Blows anything escort or Valentine out of the water.
first
I have the whistler. It definitely does go off a lot but my false alarms are usually X band. Could be due to area. I’d try putting it in city mode to see though. My KA band usually only does off if there is a cop. Or if it goes off rapidly it’s a false alarm
What can't you just go the speed lomit
Maanav Chauhan why can you not spell.
Haha this guy is a goon
Or you live in an area where average traffic is 5-10mph over and you'd rather be the car going the speed limit when there is a cop
Radars are like having an extra pair of eyes. It's better knowing that I have one than not having one.
Maanav Chauhan it takes forever to get anywhere.
Hey V V, I honestly like the way you explain and compare stuff, specially the running commentary is very good. Coz these days people make videos but dont know to talk on a microphone. Maybe you guys should re do the test like Vortex Radar said
next video: are 500$ tires better Cheetos dipped in ranch vs how to escape from paying rents
I have a 25 yo whistler. Bought it refurbished. It gives false reading when meeting 18 wheelers and store alarm systems but has never let me down. Keeps me alert.
It doesn't matter the distance away from the rear it still detects, as long as its the first, because you're already aware and slowing down
I bought a Whislter from Walmart for $99..Saved me a few times... almost a mile or more detection..
Escort Redline and Uniden R1&R3 are best window mount Radar detectors you can buy!
What I'm curious about is how they handle vehicles that have radar in their nose. Some newer cars use radar for adaptive cruise control systems. Could you maybe do a test on this?
My Whistler goes off next to Tesla's sometimes. But it has been picking up cops pretty easily and reliably.
