@LeftRight i like its sense of brevity and whimsy, as well as some of the colours it manages to evoke. the harmonic and rhythmic language really work well together too

Reminds me more of Stravinsky, there are some beautiful phrases, and the spirit is driving and lifting, in my humble opinion. I just listened to the 1st Shostakovitch sonata before this, and harmonically this is tame in comparison. I love those descending scale passages.

Very cool piece. I like how he brings back the opening theme from the 1st mvt. towards the end of the 3rd.

Intensely Stravinsky, some Prokofiev. I love it!

Very well composed, the highest craftsmanship, and unlike a lot of modern composers, every minute is enjoyable. In terms of artistic heritage, I sense Prokofiev the most, in fact I believe there is direct reference in the 3rd mvmt. Not to say it's not Original... it is!

This articulated pianism, often percussive, with open ninths in the left hand and percussive seconds and clusters, reminds me of Ustvolskaya - but Shchedrin sounds refreshing, while she sounds depressing

The intro reminds me of Evgeny Kissin's Dodecaphonic Tango! Amazing piece :)

Sorry for composer: because my hands are so small, I can't even play ninths from the beginning properly...

Great piece, but I wish the pianist wouldn't be so careless with the rests (1:13).

A perfect reflection on Marxist-Leninist society in its idealized realization in Soviet form, and the triumph of the artist in 1962. No wonder that so many American politicians of Republican... conviction... so deeply long for its hasty return, with their Dear Leader installed in the White House, consonant with Putin’s backing and moral support.
Vive le Proletariat, Comrades!! You are among them, of one accord with the “Prole-Life Movement” you have so faithfully shepherded to its logical, inevitable conclusion. No need for key signatures, it’s all and everything in C from now on!! From C to shining C... And on and on and on... Let Schedrin (and B.) be your guide, the Master of your Margaritaville...

And take note of how deftly the second movement responds to Beethoven’s late piano works, notably referencing Sonata #30 (Opus 109) and several of the Diabelli Variations. Accurate scholarship can unearth the whole groundplan... get cracking!!
