Cell phone services might go down not because of the solar eclipes but.. yes this solar eclipse is supposed to be really powerfull like 60% more powerful than the last one. The reason why the cell services will go down is because of the flood of to many people in the area. When you have a small town that has a cell tower rated for let’s say 15,000 people of called “15,000 carriers” in a 20 mile radius… then all of a sudden 25-30k people show up or “cell phone carrier” in that 20 mile radius the tower can’t handle the overload and will shut down. It’s formatted in the system to shut down so it doesn’t overload its system and fry the computer system and server racks inside the huts next to the cell tower.
So in a joking way but if all off the immigrants crossing into this country were to flood certain key swing states during voting and overwhelm towers to disrupt things is that a possibility. The thought literally just popped into my head as a joke but what would that look like? Of course assuming they all have phones.

Our county here in Ohio has 50,000 residents and they're expecting 500,000 visitors for the eclipse. That many people in this area is going to overwhelm the cellular capacity so phones likely will not work because too many people will be trying to use them at the same time. You'll experience the same thing at large events, concerts, etc. Emergency response, tow trucks, etc will also be overwhelmed because we don't have the capacity to service that many people. The roads aren't designed for that much traffic... Not enough gas stations... Etc etc I don't plan on leaving my house unless it's on a motorcycle or our electric bikes. For many people, being forced to be self-sufficient is uncomfortable. Especially city dwellers.

Stanley, I live in Texas and am trained in emergency management. The reason for the extreme precautions is because of the tourists. Towns do not have the infrastructure to support the demand expected. Traffic, energy use, cellular towers, gas stations are all going to see record breaking use in these small communities. That is the only thing they are worried about.
As some who lives in what was the prime viewing area…I can tell you the influx of out of towners was absolutely nuts. The roads were jammed up. I was mowing yesterday (Sunday 4/7) and counted so many foreign to me vehicles and out of state tags. I live on a back country road in a county of about 43,000 people.
Nothing happened with Y2K because thousands of people like myself such as software developers to IT infrastructure experts worked for months to make sure nothing would happen. There were several minor incidents but overall it was a success. If we had not put the work in it would have been disastrous. Y2K wasn't the only date of concern, December 31, 1999 and 2000. Feb 29th. 2000 due to the leap year and more.

And once these young 'uns lose the function of their phones, some might panic. And anybody who's worked emergency services can tell you how dangerous and potentially contagious panic can be.

Snowfall was so bad this season in lower Michigan that I'm selling my equipment and plow truck and getting out of it all together after 40 years of snow removal...SMH
Just prepare like you would for a major snow event. Food/snacks, water, full tank of gas, blankets, ect. This is just good common sense. Don't over think it. Lessons learned from the last solar eclips.

My 5 min google search lead me to the same conclusion. Russia has one in development but the range is very limited. The would need 10's of thousands to do any real damage. Not to mention that many missiles would elicit a nuclear response. Putin may be crazy, but I don't think he's that stupid.

We had a total solar eclipse in the Albany, Oregon area in 2016. There was some localized vehicle congestion at certain designated viewing areas, but that was about it.
I do remember to snow storms ago. All the RUclipsrs that make weather made it out like it was going to be the worst winter storm ever seen. Then you find out nope not severe at all. We didn't do this for any other eclipses. Niagara falls just declared a state of emergency and national guard for the "tourists". Niagara generates power for the whole Northeast USA.
There are too many people that just look for something to worry about. I can easily live without a phone. I can easily make it without public electric power. I can live for six month or more without any store bought food. I have enough fuel on hand to run my home heat and generator for almost a year. I owe no one any money. So I am not worrying to much. Dude snow drought are normal look at historical data and nothing other then more people to travel to see the eclipse is going to happen. Also most gas stations prices are suggested and the owners of the gas stations can set there own prices. Might need to spend less time on tik toc and other platforms for a bit
Fyi: If you actually watch the movie he references.The flyers are in different languages across the country not just arabic. I know first hand that Hospitals in the area are worried about the internet going down because of the sudden overwhelming load placed on it by the massive influx of people. Some equipment and health related devices won’t work properly without an internet connection.
Honestly, I think America is getting ready to fall and I don’t think we need anyone else involvement for that to happen. American’s have never been this self obsessed and obsessed with gender. All superpowers throughout history have fallen and I don’t think America is any different.

The thing they don’t tell you about the power grid is they have been preparing for this for years to prevent the worst case scenario. True if worst case were to happen the grid would be down for weeks if not years. That’s due to manufacturing of necessary components being funneled down to less than a handful of companies owning the patents and the ability to make them, aside from the delay to actually make them that is normally there with everything working like normal. If you have the ability to have money set aside doing nothing then by all means, buy a spare cell phone, generator, battery bank, or solar panels. But if you do make sure to store them in a faraday cage for the time you might need them. Most people even the prepers don’t have all their spare electronics rapped up in static bags sitting in faraday cages. If you have the money and you enjoy those kind of things, everyone needs a hobby. Practicality wise, you grew up ready, with the knowledge to live off the land. The rest of us are at the mercy of the knowledgeable.
Theres currently no known non destructive way to generate an EMP. By that i mean without a massive explosion, and even thise have a very limited area of effect.
None of this is out of the ordinary for me. I always carry a ton of preps in my vehicles that include all that stuff and a lot more. Most of what you see out there is people fear mongering for views. This eclipse will be longer than most. And interstate is greater than normal. I was at the last partial eclipse in Utah and traffic was horrible in the middle of the desert. There are too many people that just look for something to worry about. I can easily live without a phone. I can easily make it without public electric power. I can live for six month or more without any store bought food. I have enough fuel on hand to run my home heat and generator for almost a year. I owe no one any money. So I am not worrying to much. You have to remember that people have to be "on" now more than ever before. So if nothing is happening they need to make things seem like they are happening.

I was a toddler during the Midwest 1967 blizzard, but I rememberd the Midwest 1978 blizzard. They were predicting global freezing event in the 70s and 80s with an ice age. In 2019, AOC predicted, we only have 12 years left. So, we've used up almost half of our life left on earth. Ive been through extremes. In 1988, we had a heat wave, where there was no rain or very little rain all that summer. The average temperatures were 90s-100 degrees all summer. Extremes happens and yes as they say, this too shall pass. I personally think these fear ecents are all about money!! In which, i call friends with benefits. I personally think they are trying to perpare us for possible black swan events. If they could put us back on lockdowns. Im not eating bugs to save the environment. I'm not getting rid of my gasoline car to save the environment. I've seen extremes in temperatures in my almost 60 years of life. I bet during the Chicago fire, people thought the world was going to end. Stop the fear!!

I know first hand that Hospitals in the area are worried about the internet going down because of the sudden overwhelming load placed on it by the massive influx of people. Some equipment and health related devices won’t work properly without an internet connection.

Makes one think about the possibilities like it’s designed to. If your not ready now it’s probably to late or to early. 😂. The thing they don’t tell you about the power grid is they have been preparing for this for years to prevent the worst case scenario. True if worst case were to happen the grid would be down for weeks if not years. That’s due to manufacturing of necessary components being funneled down to less than a handful of companies owning the patents and the ability to make them, aside from the delay to actually make them that is normally there with everything working like normal. If you have the ability to have money set aside doing nothing then by all means, buy a spare cell phone, generator, battery bank, or solar panels. But if you do make sure to store them in a faraday cage for the time you might need them. Most people even the prepers don’t have all their spare electronics rapped up in static bags sitting in faraday cages. If you have the money and you enjoy those kind of things, everyone needs a hobby. Practicality wise, you grew up ready, with the knowledge to live off the land. The rest of us are at the mercy of the knowledgeable.

This eclipse will be longer than most. And interstate is greater than normal. I was at the last partial eclipse in Utah and traffic was horrible in the middle of the desert. The national guard in Ok is like 20 people and many states use them for directing traffic and emergency response.
