Make note of the GVWR. {> 13,000lbs} Now think... What is the most common small contractor trailer in terms of size? The size almost everyone starts out with, once they graduate from sub-10,000lb landscaping trailers. {14,000lbs} What's the CDL limit? That's right, 26,000lbs. See the problem? {CDL A needed for a pickup truck & 7 ton trailer.} I actually ALMOST fixed this problem a few years ago. Towards the end of 2019, I had worked with my congressman in Ohio to introduce a fix to the next transportation bill, giving him two viable options: 1. Let the 26,000 & 10,000 pound limits "float" as a combined limit for Truck and Trailer. 2. Let people use Single-Axle medium duty trucks, which top out at about 33,000lb MGVWR and just stick to the factory MCGVWR for truck & trailer. Simply require an air-brake license endorsement unless the truck has juice brakes. Basically create a CDL "Light" Class. Then Covid happened and the legislation never did. The could be done in a State for INTRA-State transportation, as I THINK Texas already does, or it can be done at the Federal level for INTER-State transportation.

I operate under the theory of keep it small and keep it all. I got that advice from a good friend who's been in the excavation business for 50 years. It's just him and his brother and he has made it through the ebbs and flows just fine and lives a comfortable life. I work alone and have built a good consistent clientele and new customers find me through word of mouth. I could grow and get bigger, but I have found a happy little niche that protects me pretty decently from the ebbs and flows of the economy and world events.

A cop told me that our new mayor had set a rule that when they stopped them just give them a ticket and send them on. If it would b me they would tow the truck for no tag no insurance but he said that they’re not allowed to run checks on the equipment and so they can run all over freely with stolen equipment and not worry about it. I could not compete against that

I don't know everything and I can't do everything. That said, I'm willing to dive in and give new things a try and in most cases, I pick up new skills pretty easily. Learning is one of my strengths and that's what seems to attract employers. In 30+ years, the longest I've been unemployed was a few months - and that's because I just moved out of state and hadn't established myself yet.

15:00 no to the diamond plate been there done that one sleet storm you will have a broken bone pretty fast. fell on my hip...took almost 280 some days to get back to normal well into my fall work snow melts, the tempo changes are crazy and the diamond plate is metal so oing down the road it gets cold again fast at those mid 30 temps...the expanded steel is much safer the ice busts off it easier and it can't retain slippery slidding snow. like diamond plate does because it can't fall to the ground....you ride it down like your feet are skiis on diamond plate, don't break your jaw going up. just my personal experience with a couple shovel crews over the years.

My job is to keep my company running.” They hire anyone and everyone as long as they meet their criteria. They have over 1,000 employees and are extremely wealthy. Take the good with the bad and make it a positive situation in your favor.
As a kid we did almost exclusively new construction homes. Some tract cracker box kind and lots of custom. Over the decades 90's into the 2000's more and more illegals were doing the work. Us and electricians were last hold outs but by the mid 2000's it was over and you couldn't compete anymore. Luckily my dad listened and we started transitioning to other fields in the industry. We did similar to you trimmed the fat kept the trucks longer things like that. I have a feeling there will be so many companies gone bext few years like it was 2009. As Warren Buffet said when the tide goes out you see who was swimming naked and there are alot. Whatever field your in find a niche that is lacking in your area and fill it.

Unfortunately I believe SuperJlonergan is right. Yes, they will work for companies. Our government serves the wealthy. It’s not a party issue. Both parties are corrupt. They will wave their magic wand and pass legislation to instantly grant citizenship. The wealthy don’t want to share any fruits of our labor anymore. Moving production overseas isn’t enough for them anymore. They just get our government to allow cheap labor to flood our own country now. #theyarecomingforyourjob

As a real estate investor, I am done buying. I have one house I am keeping as an investment one a rental and one a potential bug out. Prices on houses have reached absurd levels and are unaffordable. I could talk all day about what's coming but that would spoil the fun.

15:00 no to the diamond plate been there done that one sleet storm you will have a broken bone pretty fast. fell on my hip...took almost 280 some days to get back to normal well into my fall work
snow melts, the tempo changes are crazy and the diamond plate is metal so oing down the road it gets cold again fast at those mid 30 temps...the expanded steel is much safer the ice busts off it easier and it can't retain slippery slidding snow. like diamond plate does because it can't fall to the ground....you ride it down like your feet are skiis on diamond plate, don't break your jaw going up. just my personal experience with a couple shovel crews over the years.

Diplomas nowadays are like participation trophies, useless. Gone are the days of teaching how to think instead of what to think.

I feel like it’s going to be business as usual. I’ll tell you what a 3rd generation business owner told me: “It’s not my job to play police or migration patrol. My job is to keep my company running.” They hire anyone and everyone as long as they meet their criteria. They have over 1,000 employees and are extremely wealthy. Take the good with the bad and make it a positive situation in your favor.
As a kid we did almost exclusively new construction homes. Some tract cracker box kind and lots of custom. Over the decades 90's into the 2000's more and more illegals were doing the work. Us and electricians were last hold outs but by the mid 2000's it was over and you couldn't compete anymore. Luckily my dad listened and we started transitioning to other fields in the industry. We did similar to you trimmed the fat kept the trucks longer things like that. I have a feeling there will be so many companies gone bext few years like it was 2009. As Warren Buffet said when the tide goes out you see who was swimming naked and there are alot. Whatever field your in find a niche that is lacking in your area and fill it.
