Dexter's playing his ass off, kids are dancing and applause is slim to none.

First time I’ve seen people dancing to post swing jazz. Of course Dexter can swing hard while playing his bebop lines. And if you can tap your feet to it, why not dance? Much appreciate seeing another Dex video surface. In all the bios of him they always reference his classic Blue Note and other studio albums. Classic as they are, I’ve always preferred his live albums where he has been able to stretch out on his solos, exploring idea after idea, never repeating himself or sounding boring. Thank you SteepleChase records! The legacy of his live albums and videos were well worth his stay in Europe all those years.

Dexter repeated himself all the time! It's why he has such a strong musical personality - Dex jazz vocab!

@@WorkinSteamin I meant in the sense that all of his choruses in a solo were unique and always contained new and (often times) smile inducing phrases.

Love Danes in 70s (must be boomers and hope they still are dancing on Jazz) who can dance on bebop with the slightest provocation! Awsome!

Nice use of thirds by Dexter. What happened to the film, it went blank towards the end? Thanks for posting though, a rare treat!

He seems to be a bit high, both in the way he speaks at the beginning, and also in the tuning if my ears don't deceive me

I’m not getting the story quite right but I once read somewhere that Charles Mingus used to tell his younger musicians to play a little ahead of the beat and a little sharp because the music they played would naturally settle into place by the time they matured as musicians.

It's amazing how his sax playing seems less influenced by whatever drugs he's on that his speech. Some interesting brain science there.

aside from the great music, seeing young people dancing to jazz causes me to wonder what happened to our culture
