A couple of people I follow on RUclips have mentioned recently that their views and growth have slowed or even sunk for some reason and it seemed that for some reason RUclips wasn't pushing it to people. He asked followers to go to the search, put in the title of his channel and then click on any of his videos that came up in the results, like if not already liked and to keep doing that for a while. Apparently, that can kick start YT into recommending you more. Apparently, it worked so if we can all do that for a few minutes it might help.

The only way I can think of increasing numbers is doing some collaborations with other you tubers who have bigger audiences. I watched The Way Away and this channel. recently I haven’t been watching your vids or any travel vids as much lately. Why? I think I’m burnt out on watching travel vids. I’m working overtime to pay bills so I don’t have the time and the last thing I want to watch is someone else on vacation. I don’t mean to be mean but I think the interest in it is declining. I use to support channels I loved financially but I stopped. My heating bill just doubled and I don’t have extra. Go home. Set up a home and then travel here and there. That was my fave part of this channel. It was relatable.

I am currently learning French, I am taking lessons at my local Alliance de France. I never realized how hard it was learning a new language. I feel it could easily be considered a part time job, heck even a full time one! I go to all of my classes, plus I use supporting programs like Duo Lingo and Pimsleur. I am struggling, A LOT..... but I have given myself a few years to become proficient before I move. I think that is why you are so overwhelmed. Give yourself a bit of Grace. You Can Do This! If I'm really honest, you can't really compete with the travel vloggers that are out there as their content is so top grade and they are in different places all the time. I think you should think about returning to the US and start renovating something or take on a tiny home. Projects are what people like seeing on RUclips. It's so hard now on your own as solo traveller and you're so lovely but the harsh reality is that it's too tough to compete for views from other travel vloggers. Also it's great to learn Spanish but not everyone can become fluent. If things aren't clicking after a year, don't torture yourself learning. Accept you've learnt enough to get by and move on.. Life's too short All of this sounds so harsh but it's what I'd tell a friend and coming from a place of encouragement. You would probably be happier near your family and things could click into place. I think you'd be a brilliant school teacher. Would you think of retraining for something like that.

When I moved to New Zealand (from the UK) thought hard about my family and particularly my dad, who was already in his 80s. I decided on two things:
    1. Even though New Zealand is far away, it is still only a day away. Getting back to England in an emergency was difficult and expensive, but not impossible.
    2. In life, it's important to move forward. The greatest gift that we can give our parents is to be happy and successful in our lives. And being far away doesn't stop us thinking about loved ones and keeping in touch.

  • @danispenelli5470
    @danispenelli5470 Год назад +7

Before I begin my comment, I first want to send my prayers and love to you. You have been through so much and still smile every day.❤
Now, here are a few things that I think of after hearing your thoughts today...
    1. Why is learning Spanish so important to you? Is it because you thought you could double up and create YT content while you were there? You can learn Spanish anywhere, truly. Think about that. Why there? I'm sure it's been fun but it also sounds stressful and expensive.
    2. You can't run two channels. I had been a follower of the TWA for several years prior to it's demise - saw the writing on the wall for a long time and only watched for your experience. So when you created WITA I jumped over. However, then you announce that you're going to run both channels... Too confusing. Now, I think it's smart to run content out of TWA because there are more subs which would equal more revenue... But you have to build it back up as it sat vacant for so long. Yes, you'll lose a few subs but not enough to matter that much. The main thing is you have to stay consistent. If it was me, I'd focus on one channel. I'd work on trying to transfer subs from one channel over to the one you want to focus on.
    3. How are you bringing people to your channel? If you're relying on YT revenue then you need to treat it like a job. Posting on other social media platforms as well as being versatile in your brand/offerings. IE: sponsorships, affiliate links, merch, etc. YT isn't reliable on its own. Also, running consistent live streams... It seemed like you had several generous super chats on your last live. That might be a great way to make a little extra cash while doing something fun with your most loyal viewers.
❤As mentioned before, you are a special person who has survived a past that many of us wouldn't have found our way out of... I hope I haven't offended you in any way, just a few thoughts on how to help.
Conclusion: Go back to Seattle, continue to learn Spanish at home, create content that is authentic to you and not what you think everyone wants, focus on one channel, diversify your income streams, and continue to be the beautiful you. ❤

Thank you for your well thought out comment. I am happy to share with you.
      1.
Learning Spanish has always been something I thought was out of reach for me. It was a dream I never thought I would see fulfilled and I am so happy to have the chance to try. I do know that I could be learning spanish in many other places but I do love Europe and I really desire to put my roots down somewhere after for so long living out of a bag and not feeling like I could develop friendships or build community. I could end up in another spanish speaking country but for now I feel at home here and want to continue to cultivate that.
      2. I agree with you! I had to try and now that I have I feel that I can move forward knowing I have done all I could. I had to do that for myself. Sometimes I forget that I am one person and one person can only do so much. haha
      3. I do view it as a job and I spend so much time on what I do. Editing alone takes me a long time as I would not consider myself an editor. One thing I can see as my downfall is that I have a hard time asking for and accepting help. I need to get better at this because I know I need more hands to do the great things I would love to see done with this channel and all my social medias. ❤
Thank you for all of your suggestions and that you care for me and my future. It is obvious you are a caring person. Thank you for taking the time to write me and share. -Ash

@WingingItWithAsh I'm going to be honest Ash, and speak from too many years experience. You are showing the classic signs of missing being in a secure relationship. You probably think not, but trying to resurrect The Way Away was trying to return to happier times. You're now at a crossroads, and you have to make some tough choices. Most guys of your age will be looking to, or already have started to put down roots and looking to settle with a job, wife, and family. There will be some that still want the globe trotting life, but not your average guy. I've never wanted to tour the world, but I can see the attraction for you, as your ex was a part of it for a long time. You have to make some choices as the years soon pass, and if you're looking to have a family, it's more involved, the nearer you get to 40. You need to be thinking ahead, to where you really see yourself settling long term. I hope It's been of use to you, but please choose carefully and find someone that is still going to stick around through the good and bad times.

@@chiaweinam Yes, I followed their The Way Away for some time, and I've seen Ash putting on the brave face and seem to move on after the split. Having lost my wife to illness a few years ago, I know how hard it will be to make sure you find what you really want. Sometimes it takes a stranger to say the truth to you and make you see you can't dwell on the past too much or the years pass by before you realise. It's a shame to see her so unhappy, and unsure which way she needs to go. I'm a pretty good judge of peoples emotions, and it's quite clear that Ash needs to be looking at where she really would like to be in say 10+ years, not a short term plan. But the difficult part is findings that person that will be there with you all the way.

I'm always impressed by people who are able to strike out on their own, move to another country where they don't know anyone and then successfully overcome the challenges. I have traveled solo and experienced the loneliness of not being near loved ones but that doesn't compare to permanently living without your family nearby which you have done. My suggestions are to try to focus on the things that you have accomplished and all of the small achievements that you have had. With regard to Spanish, I have been studying Spanish for a year and a half and know the sinking feeling when I am in my online class with students from all over the world and can't get my conjugations right or forget my vocabulary. It takes several years to truly become fluent in a foreign language. But the times that I do get the answers right are what keep me going with Spanish. With regards to income, have you thought of becoming an English teacher in Italki or a similar platform? I have practiced with several Spanish speaking people from Mexico who are certified teachers or community teachers and who are gradually building their number of students and income. With your personality, I am sure you would do well as an English teacher in Italki.

Go back home for a while. Get another job like the dentist office job you had in the States before the Wales trip.
Consolidate your finances, then you’ll be in a way better position to be more flexible and do the travel you really want to do, without relying on the unpredictable Facebook money or trying to pick up the odd casual other jobs which don’t guarantee security for you.

Very very few people are able to make a living with just RUclips, and a lot of it is based on luck. I don’t think it is anything about solo vs couple travel. I think it is more full-time travel vs mainly expat life in one particular city. Your potential audience is much narrower now. You may at some point need to make a difficult decision about what your next steps will be. It may be that your current life simply isn’t sustainable. Or maybe you choose to take your channel in a different direction. Regardless, you are not your channel so please don’t place any self worth on whether your channel grows or not. You are an awesome person with a lot to offer with or without a RUclips channel.

I've been following you since way away a few years ago and must say that a lot of your videos inspired me. Being an expat is not easy, I totally understand you, I am born Brazilian to Portuguese parents and we have lived in different countries. When I was younger moving and learning new languages was easy, this way I've learned 4 languages easily, however, 5 years ago I moved to Denmark for a job (thankfully I don't have to go through these visa processes due to my Portuguese nationality) and I struggled so much to learn some Danish and integrate, I worked full time in an office and had classes twice a week for 3 hours, but my brain was just like no, I was already exhausted by the end of the day. At some point I dropped the classes after the first module, I couldn't work full time and learn danish at the same time, I'm in my early 30s nowadays and it's not like when I was a teenager. Also, you feel like nowhere is home, back in Brazil and Portugal I don't feel like this is my home anymore, but neither is Denmark, At the end of the day I understood that home is where the heart is and slowly started saying that home is where I'm physically at and if I move to another place that will be my home, and Denmark, Brazil, Portugal, France and the US will be in the past, a few beautiful chapters of my life. Do I see myself living in Brazil or Portugal again? Maybe when I get much older? Another point, being away from family is not easy, but being too close isn't pleasant either - my siblings are closer and always complain. I always think well if my mom lives another 30 years, I may see her only 30 or 40 times since I have my life with my partner, I travel to different places and not necessarily to see my family every time. The hardest I noticed was when my partner's mother passed away during the pandemic and we couldn't attend the funeral, that was heartbreaking to an unimaginable level and well it is what it is. Nowadays, I understand I have to focus only on the positive aspects and understand that there are drawbacks and that's normal, it's life, this way I'm coping better.

Speaking from experience learning Spanish is hard for all of the reasons you mentioned, you're not alone. RUclips is hard. It's different for you because you need to make a living from it whereas I don't need to make money from it. For me it's just something I like to do from video shooting to editing. Don't let it get you down. You are a strong independent woman. Considering all that you've been through i hope you’re proud of yourself. -Marc

Ashley everything you say about language learning is entirely normal. Just to reassure you that you will get there but it takes so much more time than people think. It has taken me 5 years to get there with French but it’s still hard. Keep going. Please don’t give up! I think you’ve done so well to go and live in Europe and experience so many things both ups and downs. You’re an amazing person and your spirit is beautiful. I’ve said this so many times but your smile and outlook on life is such a positive thing in the world.
Wherever you are I love watching your content. I loved your little house in the USA when you worked in the dentist. I loved your travel videos. I’ve loved watching your Spain videos. Basically the core subscribers aren’t going anywhere.
It’s all so normal to feel this way when you live away from your home country. I moved from the U.K. to Australia after travelling Europe for years. I’m also in my 30s and craving security and familiarity and having to renew my visa over here in Australia every 2 years is hard, it just makes everything feel temporary. It’s like living in limbo sometimes and being so far away from my friend group is heartbreaking.

Ashley, first off I want to say that as a long time viewer of your channel you have gone through much change in your life and remember how well you have dealt with it and what you have over come to get where you are. Remember your successes. Don't be so hard on yourself. Your true viewers and followers continue to watch your content because they love you and want to connect with you, the real you. The worst thing that happened to video content was monetization. Hobbies make horrible professions because they suck the life out of something you enjoy and make you do things you would never do, in order to make money. You are doing a good thing evaluating what is going on and your passion for this medium. As @glynnwright1699 said below: "Don't be hard on yourself, you have set yourself challenges that most of us wouldn't even contemplate. Giving time and space to recognize your emotions is healthy and part of the process." You do inspire people with who you are, not what you do or how much or how good your content is. Lean on your family, they love and support you no matter how far away they are. Your true followers support you as well. Be kind to yourself. You will get through this! 💜

Ashley....go home. It's ok. I know you want to be strong and prove you can do this, but ur mental health is more important. That doesn't mean you can't revisit this dream in the future. But right now you need to re ground yourself, and that means you need to be closer to the ones who love you most. This is not a failure. It's just a break. I had no idea you were back on the Way Away channel. I just peeked, and u started posting 9 months ago. I would have supported you there had I known. I'm so sorry. I loved that channel. It's where I found you originally. And so much has happened that you had to move on from. But I understand feeling the need to return to the familiar. Where u were ur happiest. That's why I feel...and who am I right...that you need to go home for a while. I can see ur not happy right now. The thing about life is that it will never be exactly what u dream it to be. But u learn to move with what is while making plans for what could be. I hope that makes sense. I just wish and pray for you to be okay. I'm honestly worried for you. Please just consider going home for a while. I think you need the break. In the meantime, I'm going to catch up here on WIWA and catch up on Way Away. And I will always support whatever you are doing in life. Always.

People always move away from their family back home but then they always go back to them. It makes sense. I am not so fortunate as I haven't had either one of my parents in my life for so many years. I come to Spain every summer for vacation until I can get sponsorship or the digital nomad visa. Go to the language exchanges and you can meet new people and make lots of friends like I did. I personally watch your channel mainly because your irrepressible sunshiney personality cheers me up. The soul of your channel is your genuine and loveable personality, and the formula that is proven to work is simply 'person we like + different situations', more so even that specific topics. So I think expanding beyond travel and into anything and everything you find interesting might be the way to create growth, with an eye on adjacent audiences and current trends to capitalise on. Hammering out short videos is a key way to trigger channel growth too. Point being, making it more about engaging with your personality/lifestyle rather than even the topic, let your imagination run riot in terms of creativity and ideas, do things that are within your reach rather than thinking you have to go bigger and bigger to get views, and don't be afraid to blatantly piggyback on trends either.

I have been wrestling hard with God about this. “Really? Really?”

It's quite normal to have doubts and bouts of feeling down, especially as you are carrying all the decisions by yourself. At some point in the future it will all come together and you will meet the right person , in the right place and look back and see is was all worth it. Have a virtual hug. Activities that make you happy in Spain, what you do, shop and eat. Get tips on where to go on a budget where you are. Free places to visit to get great experiences with art and culture. As a person living stateside & learning Spanish mostly on my own, I totally understand. Maybe it’s time to pivot just a little. I think the classroom setting could be the problem. Is there a way for you to get private tutoring instead at the same cost? Sometimes classroom settings put more pressure on and stagnate growth 😉 Remote work is hard to get here too. I suggest reaching out to US staffing agencies. Is it possible for you to live elsewhere in Spain? Costa Del Sol maybe? I know I might be suggesting things that may seem easier said than done but hopefully it helps a little!

Learning a second language isn’t easy, by any means, but age doesn’t help. I’m, by no means calling you old (I guarantee I’m older than you 😉), but the ideal time is in the very early stages of life. The best unsolicited advice I can give is that the more you practice, the better you get. People who are fluent don’t care if you mess up tenses. They recognize that you’re trying and will kindly correct you. When you think, and even dream, in a second language, that’s when it becomes a literal mind trip. Most of the time when I dream in Spanish, I’m going off on someone 😂
