I served for 23 years. I have just retired after 23 years in civvy street. This ID card will hopefully assist me with services. Too many Veterans have been lost after service due to no recognition for their service. Lets hope this goes to address that!👍

We got our Canadian Forces Veterans Cards starting in 2018. It's a bit like applying for a passport. I was amazed that they were able to find my paper records dating back fifty years in a timely manner and issue mine. I would have thought that the mice had eaten them long ago.

You do get perfect strangers walking up to your car and thanking you for your service now and again with those, which feels pretty good. More to the point, It's a lot easier to come and go on bases.
So who does this help? I've never had the need to evidence that I'm ex forces. As soon as the Government does something to "help" anyone, I instantly question it. They are seeing who is still compliant and will jump when told to and people are buying into it.

Great comment! The money spent on this. First, sort out the War Pensions office for veterans who need help but have to spend months if not years waiting for decisions Next, the forces pensions. What a croc of sh*te they are for those that didn't do 22 years or more. A pittance, and yes, I know, that can't be changed now. Last, why can't a veterans ID card be used everything like the Defence Discount Service card and the Veterans Railcard instead of having multiple cards here there and everywhere? I got my veterans card today long time coming. However, we shouldn't have waited this long.. I served 26 years but we are still forgotten many on the streets with mental health and many shoved away from the eyes of the world the government should do more

Have drawn at least one days pay, to be more accurate. To do that you must have at least completed the enlistment process i.e had your medical, sworn allegiance and been issued with a service number. This process often takes months. Reservists can end up attending for months before they are able to draw their first pay check because they hadn't been issued with a service number because it took months to get a medical organised! You don't get your pay backdated for that period of service (before you were officially enlisted) unfortunately.
Come on, lets have real help, like housing for homeless vets. A nice hotel, like you give to rubber boat migrants who have done flip all for the country, might help some on the streets. Angry Padre Vet.

All we need now is a medal of some sorts to commemorate a servicemen, women’s non combatant service we didn’t all go to war some of us were rear party due to ill health etc but we all served

No, only the MOD 90, or an in date Passport or photo driving licence is considered approved ID for that purpose.

First Phase was to all service leavers who left from 2018 onwards, they have been receiving them automatically.
Would be nice to have something similar for those of us who served in the civilian services, police, ambulance and fire services…
