I'm a cranky old spinny too. 10 years out from cancer, not always so cranky, happy to be here, and guys can be too much trouble, so happily missed. Like your web piecing, thanks for the ideas.
Thanks, Kathleen! Congrats on surviving cancer--so glad you're still with us and going strong! Thanks for watching! 🥰
I think this might be an especially fun block to do as a monochromatic pattern….have the crumbs be a variety of black & white fabrics and the stars could be a pop of color…or switch that, and make the stars out of a shiny metallic white and silver and the background be from a monochromatic palette of any color of your choosing. I’m going to play around with it! Thanks for a fun project to play with!
Oh, that does sound like fun! I'd love to see how your "play" turns out!
I love that! It's really pretty.
I dont have a bunch of scrap or 2.5in squares. I used most of them for a sewing machine pad thing and I made a pin cushion with the rest.
Gonna have to get some more 2.5 in squares for this one. Great idea....thank you and God bless.
Thank you, Amanda! I'm impressed that you've been able to keep up with your 2-1/2" square scraps--I can't seem to get control of mine! Thanks for watching.
LOL don't speak too soon, I did...lol
I love it. For now, I am tired of quilts all matchy, matchy. Thank you for showing us how to make an imperfect square!
It's my pleasure! Imperfect is my talent, lol! Sometimes there's perfection in imperfection, right?
I too love the way this block turned out and I agree, I'm not into matchy match either. 😀😀
Such a fun improv quilt block! Thank you for sharing this video!
Thank you, Brenda!
I really like the way that you did this, it is fun and oh so pretty. I also like your idea of reversing every other block so that the star is the crazy patch and the background is the solid color. Very nice. Thanks.
Thank you, Kay!
I like it. And I think that different solid stars , maybe more muted color, will incandescent the total look.
Ooo...I like the idea of muted, solid starts; thank you! ❤️
I also did strips with adding machine tape and sewed together into 10 inch squares, then used a background and made 1/2 square triangles to use up my scraps.
Sewing the strips into squares is a great idea--I love strips, but always need ways to make them "useful."
It was surprising to me how much the friendship star stood out from the rest of the “busy” squares. And how much the center square stood out. It made me want to change that center square...somehow give it some color...maybe make it a square in a square. Enjoyed analyzing it with you. Thanks!
Thanks, Mary Jo! I 'd love to see how it would turn out with some color in the center. Were you thinking about a pieced center, or a solid color?
@@WarpedSpinster A pieced center, of course! 🙂
Maybe a crumb center framed by the solid?
@@maryjokruer6127 Of course; what was I thinking??? :-)
Love the crumb aspect, i think a solid star in a solid like black that goes with any color would b nice ❤
Thanks, Amy! That does sound like it would be nice... ❤
Just thought how pretty this would be with all sky colours pieced, and yellow star fabric. Ooh
Oooo--that does sound fabulous!! I hope you do it!
Love the process. I would change the stark white for a coordinating low volume print.
Thanks, Debra! Low-volume is always a good option, too. 🥰
I did a similar experiment with wonky stars. I wish I had used a lighter fabric for the stars, but overall I am pleased.
Oh, you're way ahead of me, Kelly! Your wonky star blocks sound awesome!
@@WarpedSpinster I was going to send a picture, but don’t see how on this platform
@@kellyjohnston5768 There really isn't a way here. (Given the text comments I have to delete nearly every day, I don't even want to think about what videos/photos people might post!) Are you on Facebook or Instagram? You can message me from my Facebook page (warpedspinster) or tag me on IG (again, warped spinster)
I’d try a gray darker in value, which I think would make the star a little stronger.
I think that's an idea with definite merit, Marcy! Thanks for the suggestion!
Very fun colors!!! Thank you
I love this super cute idea
Thank you, Meg!
Can I ask when you are posting the next video? I'm loving this!
@@megdomangue5807 Hi, Meg! I've posted a couple of videos since this 2-1/2" square one; they're using strips from my stash. I try to post videos on Sundays and Tuesdays.
Very interesting!🤔. I’m newer to quilting, but did find this enjoyable.
I’m wondering if the star could be the patchwork fabric and your background the light gray??!?!
I liked how you thought out loud, it’s very helpful to figure it out.
After all…
🤔it works better if you talk out loud😝
❤️😀
The background could absolutely be the background, too! Thanks for hanging out with me, and putting up with my muttering to myself! 😂
Those squares are great for making tote bags too
Oh, yes; tote bags are a great idea, too! Thanks, Gena!
Loved this❣
Thank you, Melisa!
I like this block very much interesting
Thank you, Barbara; thank you for watching!
I think I am going to try this with my five in crumb squares!
Sounds like it will be great--you go, girl! ❤
Enjoyed this very much. As phenomenal as it looks, I would just do a small 9 patches in place
I think that would look great, too!
I like how the solid is the star ,it would look cool if each star pulled a color from the scraps .personally for me no sashing
Thanks, Lisa; I think that's great idea!
I wonder how it would look if your 4.5" squares were cut slightly "wonky"? Neat idea. I would have to incorporate it into another block since I'm not a fan of the friendship star block.
Well, I'm all in for wonky! I think it's a great idea, and you're right that it would for other blocks that you like. Go for it!
I like the idea. I would try to sort out the 2 inch squares by color. Then put them together as a rainbow quilt with the friendship star scrappy and the background solid.
Oooo...that sounds like it would be beautiful!
l love the block
Thank you, Lynn, and thanks for watching and commenting!
cute idea!
Thanks, Glenda!
Would like to see how to make postcards.
Thanks, I'll be sure to make a video on that in the near future!
I made a quilt using 2 1/2 inch square triangle quilt so far it has taken 1,600 half square triangles.
Wow! I'm impressed--that's a powerful lot of HSTs!
That is a lot if HSTs
I'm using 2 1/2 inch squares to make donation quilts. Giving them to foster children. I embroider their name in bold letters in hopes the quilts won't get lost.
What a beautiful idea, and a wonderful blessing for the children who receive them! ❤
hi from mexico is interested how you work with creativity and give ideas to made
Gracias!
Are you still doing the mystery quilt with 2 1/2" squares?
Yes! The next clue (#3) will be published the first Sunday in October.
@@WarpedSpinster thank you. We can have some of the same fabric (right)? I am a newbie. .
@@lisaanderson1065 Newbies are most welcome! When you ask about the same fabric, what fabric are you asking about? Background?
@@WarpedSpinster the 580 blocks. I have some that are the same...i wanted to make sure it would work.
@@lisaanderson1065 Oh, yes; you absolutely can have duplicates in your 580 squares.
Looks smazing
Thank you, Julie! ❤
Nice for a block but too labour intensive for a quilt....for me anyway. I'd get overwhelmed ha ha
Thanks, Lisa! It was a bit on the labor intensive side. Maybe the block could be a pillow... :-)
Am with you..bug eyed..🇨🇦
The explanation is slightly confusing.
You should have it
Figured out ahead of tome😢
Nope. That's not in keeping with the purpose of the channel. Thanks for watching, in any case, and wish you luck in finding quilting videos more to your liking. There are many great videos out there! (Sorry to be so late in replying--RUclips has been hiding some comments from me, or I'm incredibly unaware; could be either. In either case, I'm embarrassed about the delay! )
You wear me out with your rambling
You wear me out with your unnecessary, unhelpful comments.
Seams like a lot of waste
Hmmm. I'm using squares I cut from scraps left over from other projects, and what I trim or cut from this project I will either use in another block, or put in my bin of crumbs for making crumb quilts. Where are you seeing the waste?
