Wow. This is bringing tears to my eyes. I always used to ask my Nanny why she had so much pain in her eyes and this is why. This is horrible

My research has bore this out to be fact. The Halifax explosion was no accident. It was a deliberate demolition targeting Africville/Turtle Grove which at the time was seen as one Indigenous-Black community. Today the notion of Indigenous has been divorced from Blacks as to convince the world that the indigenous people of Canada's maritimes are pale. The demolition was successful in taking out the 2000 residence of "Turtle Grove" (which was renamed Tuff's cove to erase the site from memory after the explosion) but unsuccessful at destroying the south coast. Everything this elder is saying can be confirmed by the Nova Scotia archives for those who are inclined to look.

Very thought provoking. I agree 100% Mr.Carvery that all the houses should be rebuilt & proper sewage, water, street lights, paved roads and policing, should be provided, & the people & or surviving families should also be compensated financially. The apologies mean absolutely nothing until this is done. Then & only then do the apologies mean something. If the city can not afford to do so, then they can sell city properties until they can afford to put back what was destroyed & stolen.

Africville should be in every schools curriculum in Canada. Indigenous people have made headway. In 2021, we know about cultural genocide and residential schools. Time for this shameful chapter of Canadian history to also come to light. One other thing Mr. Carvery could have told was Africville residents paid municipal taxes. Still no city water or sewers. Same amount of money it cost to destroy Africville would have paid for utilities. Only answer? Racism.

I visited him in 2014 and he is amazing. A true library. Then we went to the museum. Canada did them dirty. They could've stayed. It's a dog park now smfh. Sad

      Yeah, sounds kinda crazy.
The Halifax explosion happened when a French Ship collided with a Norwegian ship. Why would France and Norway want to blow up Halifax? It makes no sense. They had no reason to do that.
Out of 1800 deaths there were only five recorded at Africville. I think its possible that it could have been a bigger number, but if this was all a huge international conspiracy to blow up africville they didn't accomplish what they were planning.
