In My Honest Opinion as Someone who has been playing and touring with the Montage since its Release back in 2016 I’m a bit disappointed with this release! 😢 I was really hoping for Added Hardware Features Like Bluetooth Audio Streaming For Practicing, Bluetooth MIDI To connect To Other Devices Wirelessly. WiFi For Updating Software / Firmware Easily without the need of a Computer or USB. Also Dual or Stereo XLR / 1/4 in Combo Inputs Jacks for a Microphone 🎤 & XLR Balanced Outputs! Also a dedicated USB Audio Knob like on the MODX & MODX+. This seems more like a Software update at Most. I’ll stick with my OG Montage for another 7-8 years or until Yamaha gets it right or what the actual customers want!
@@JMMinistries wifi and Bluetooth? Your expectations are beyond unrealistic. 99% of instruments and even Synths don't have these features. And for that audio knob, for my use case it's mostly a stationary setup and I find it's better to run all devices through my akai mpc x anyway. Plus I have a Korg Kronos and the mpc x for sampling and sequencing. The yamaha montage as specified by yamaha isn't a workstation, it's a synthesizer. A korg Kronos is a work station, I can assure you if their response to the montage m doesn't have the features you're asking for, then you really have some fantasy ideas for features on even flagship instruments from these prestigious brands that know how to make kickass instruments.
@@Charlesbabbage2209 yamaha specifically mentions its a synthesizer and not a workstation. Get a korg if you want sequencing and sampling or a whole other system to do so. Even on my Kronos I prefer to use other methods of sequencing and sampling. All in one instruments with every feature simply don't exist. Yamaha does what it does best, kicked Roland's ass with this release of their own analog engine. And a nord? Just use the plug in they are creating for the montage m and use a komplete control s88 mk2, even with nords own sound library or better yet any other sound library, as nords isn't the best in the business. Use FX pedals like the meris lvx and the Empress effects zoia. Chase bliss pedals make these Synths more powerful than they could ever wish to be. And hardware daws like the akai mpc x eliminate the need to include all these things in these instruments to keep the piece and weight down. Also remember everything needs to fit in a 6X key form factor and not a 7X or 88 key. If you want an all in one instrument, make your own custom housing, and slam all the boards together.

The sound that took the cake for me is the "Composer Felt NS" wow, clean, subtle clarity is what I call it. crisp but has depth. wow . . . .
It’s a great keyboard but I miss some things like some pads, phantom power to plug in a studio microphone, linear sequencer and a step sequencer. As Yamaha stated this is a workstation and having a step sequencer based on a tr-rec thing would be great for it’s price range.
The orchestral sounds are very good for a keyboard, still not as sound libraries but quite surprising and better than everything I have heard before in a keyboard, this sounds better than the Kurzweil PC3 in Orchestral it seems, at least judging by the strings and brass showed here. Synth sounds sound nice as well. Nice keyboard.
Korg if you're willing to do some sound design despite the 128 polyphony sounds just as good if not better. Korgs old presets sound like garbage and don't actually do their sound engines justice.
@@JohnnyADi i own a Nautilus and the Orchestral sounds are not good. I don’t think they can improve too much with sound design, so I am not sure what samples you are talking about. In general, Korg is weaker than Yamaha in acoustic sounds. Korg shines in other areas IMO. Do you have examples?.
@@JohnnyADi in any case I don’t use keyboards for orchestral sounds, but sound libraries because they sound way better. I mostly work in my studio. I understand people who use them live tho.
Except some Anx sounds, all I've heard here can be heard in the previous Montage. I don't see enough in this new version to get rid of my "old" Montage. I've got some so good extra libraries that this new Montage wouldn't add anything.
Played with it this morning at Chuck Levins - was SOOOOO cool! But I dont think I would upgrade from the original Montage - but it IS a great keyboard bed, too.

Hey! There’s something I’ve been wondering, and found your comment. I’ve generally heard people stray away from purchasing a Montage because of its weight, and how travelling with it for live gigs, is very difficult, And especially the new M8x is 28 kgs. Since you actively tour with the Montage keyboard, could you please share your opinion on the same? Thanks in advance :)
@@saloniagrawal5676The M8 is actually almost 2 lbs. lighter than the original Montage 8 & the Motif XF 8. All of the complaining about weight wasn’t heard much when the XF and original Montage came out. I can’t figure why it’s such a big deal these days.
You played the string orchestra sample. It sounded pretty good and you said you would use it to demo ideas but would get a real orchestra to do it in the end. So you obviously feel that this is not good enough quality for film where dedicated string libraries are. I’m debating getting this board, thanks for the review.
I really like the Montage sound, and this new version is an improvement in many areas. However, it is very expensive, for a bedroom hobbyist like me it doesn't make sense. Kontakt and in-the-box work better for me. Its a pity Yamaha won't make a VST version of this.
Yamaha has announced that they are releasing a full software vst of Montage M to be released next year that works with its hardware which is the best of both hardware and software! Love it Yamaha!
I need to trade in my montage 7 for one of these. Big question is how will Korg answer. The nautilus didn't add anything and is kind of like the yamaha MODX.
The big problem with the Nautilus was the lack of physical buttons for live performances and the price. Here in Brazil, Korg keyboard prices are surreal. That's why I bought the MODX7+, as the cost is better, but I like the power that the Nautilus offers more.
@@vinicius_anl I've got an 88 key Kronos. I honestly find most of the buttons and what not useless, sure they are convenient but usually I just use a knob or 2 and a switch pedal to go through presets. That new engine in the montage m is enough for me to want it over a dedicated roland jupiter xm though. Remarkable stuff by yamaha.
@@JohnnyADi I understand, I even thought about opting for a foot controller to improve the MODX7+ timbre changes and not depend so much on the physical interface of the keyboards in general. I think I'll stick to this idea even if the MODX has physical buttons for live control. I want to upgrade to an 88, but everything is very expensive. The Roland RD2000 is my target at the moment. Thanks for your feedback.
Dug into the specs. Nothing. and eventually found out by looking at downloads. Download USB audio driver for mac/pc here. So no class compliant audio here then?
Holy cow, this thing is incredible. Super overkill for me as a hobbyist whose real job has nothing to do with music, but it's amazing for someone who needs that kind of functionality. Even if I were a professional who could afford this and I knew how to get the most out of it, I couldn't imagine gigging with it. This thing belongs in a high-end recording studio.
I still don't understand why there is no mono legato with portamento in the new montage that gives you a nice gliding sound like with Kronos or Fantom and then a mid-range instrument from Yamaha has the good mono legato function
Thank you for such a great video I'm just wondering is this new VST for the montage going to be a main stage killer, And what will be their system requirements to run the software???
Since I tried the EX5 epiano sounds with FDSP at a friends studio, I wanted to buy one. Hearing about the new Montage series made me wait patiently, but to my surprise I find the sounds of the new series underwhelming. Call me crazy, but I find the sound of the EX5 more pleasing. Or lets say, certain sound categories: besides the amazing epianos (amazingly good sounding attack transients, while the montage attack sounds as hard as usual). I also somehow like the pianos more (how they integrate in a mix). Also some of the pad sounds of the EX5 sound much better to my ears.
Hi I have a Montage 6 , wanted to switch to Montage 6m , I have done many works related to sound and sampling in my old montage 6 , wanted to know if I switch to Montage6 M , will it be able to read the back up of old montage 6
Should have played old songs where the DX7 etc was used in back in the days, to show that the sound is the same. And since you have worked with the great great Cory Henry, I would have expected to hear and see some organs and the working of something like drawbars or drawbars emulators.
This video is a great example of how out of touch Guitar Center is with its customer base. Sitting in front of a $4500 professional workstation, and he's talking about how everything about it is "so cool" for "super rad gigs" and this new-fangled thing called "poly-after-touch".
As a songwriter in a classic ballad style I am searching for an instrument with convincing instrument sounds, guitar, strings, sax, horns, etc., and an easy to use 16 track sequencer. I guess the more off the wall sounds and modulations of sounds don't really mean much to me since I'm more interested in natural band and orchestra instrument sounds. Can someone tell me if this would be a good fit for me? I am used to using a Korg Triton Studio sequencer which has a step sequencer in addition to the regular sequencer that records what you play. I want to build songs one instrument sound at a time, but natural instrument sounds rather than synth sounds. I would like to be able to create a convincing jazz quartet sound, piano, up bass, acoustic drums and sax, and then sweeten a bit with strings. But I do want the highest fidelity and most convincing instrument sounds available. Is this the right keyboard for me? Thanks for any advice.
I've just never felt the Montage series compared to the Motif series. I find the montage to sound to be quite thin compared to the motif xf for example.
Surely Yamaha Will add new tech bettering than previous Montage. The great problem remain the exaggerate price!!!!!!! Who can permit an instrument of this?????😮😮😮
I wish they had artists like Teddy Riley, Babyface, Scott Storch or Rodney Jerkins demonstrating this keyboard workstation, so they can demonstrate the sounds while playing some jams

would love for someone like Andrew Mckain to play the board. He's a worship guy that plays with the flavor and style that I play in. His videos on the Montage accentuate sounds that are attractive to me. I love what you (Nicolas) have highlighted. that "sFz Tremolo BPM Sync" OMG and the realism, punch, sustain and clarity when you need it is awesome. The sound that took the cake for me is the "Composer Felt NS" wow, clean, subtle clarity is what I call it. crisp but has depth. wow . . . .
Fantastic demo love your playing. New Montage is so amazing. ❤❤❤
It’s a great keyboard but I miss some things like some pads, phantom power to plug in a studio microphone, linear sequencer and a step sequencer. As Yamaha stated this is a workstation and having a step sequencer based on a tr-rec thing would be great for it’s price range.
This is such a great machine.. im getting more and more drawn to it. Hard choice for my next one
The best Demo. Like it a lot 💪🏼✨🥰
Great board! I hoped for 9 faders with this new board. Maybe they don’t want it to step on their yc series’ toes.
Played with it this morning at Chuck Levins - was SOOOOO cool! But I dont think I would upgrade from the original Montage - but it IS a great keyboard bed, too.
Makes it too gimmicky. It’s an instrument to be played, not a damn cell phone or iPad.
Hey!
There’s something I’ve been wondering, and found your comment.
I’ve generally heard people stray away from purchasing a Montage because of its weight, and how travelling with it for live gigs, is very difficult,
And especially the new M8x is 28 kgs.
@@harleyrider9166Exactly.
I can hear Silent Hill from this demo. Now I’m sold.
You played the string orchestra sample. It sounded pretty good and you said you would use it to demo ideas but would get a real orchestra to do it in the end. So you obviously feel that this is not good enough quality for film where dedicated string libraries are.
I’m debating getting this board, thanks for the review.
Awesome synthesizer.
It’s like SkyFall in a box!
How do the sounds of this board compare to those of a VST like Keyscape?
Thank you to any answers
I really like the Montage sound, and this new version is an improvement in many areas. However, it is very expensive, for a bedroom hobbyist like me it doesn't make sense. Kontakt and in-the-box work better for me. Its a pity Yamaha won't make a VST version of this.
I thought they will?
@@falkneugebohrn8225no they won’t. They will release a plug-in but for the Montage
Omnisphere and Keyscape cost a fraction of the montage and sound amazing. Yamaha has to do better.
They've already confirmed that there WILL be a VST version of this.
Yamaha has announced that they are releasing a full software vst of Montage M to be released next year that works with its hardware which is the best of both hardware and software! Love it Yamaha!
Absolutely amazing
Sold! I’m buying a 2005 Korg Oasys!
I need to trade in my montage 7 for one of these. Big question is how will Korg answer. The nautilus didn't add anything and is kind of like the yamaha MODX.
Korg will come up with something good too ig
@JohnnyADi isn't JupiterXm fantastic?
One question How do You keep your studio so clean like no dust how does one achieve that ?
im on the fence with the Roland Integra 7 and a-49 controller or this... but dang this is a workhorse!
Wonderful presentation. Thank you
Sounds and options are amazing.
Dug into the specs. Nothing. and eventually found out by looking at downloads. Download USB audio driver for mac/pc here.
So no class compliant audio here then?
No.
Magnifico.⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️
Holy cow, this thing is incredible. Super overkill for me as a hobbyist whose real job has nothing to do with music, but it's amazing for someone who needs that kind of functionality.
Even if I were a professional who could afford this and I knew how to get the most out of it, I couldn't imagine gigging with it. This thing belongs in a high-end recording studio.
Do you all know when is the pricing point for this keyboard? And when is it coming out?
I seen sights like sweetwater and American Musical Supply are in stocks said 2 day shipping at American Musical Supply I order from them all the time!
@@justinw72ify ok cool I appreciate it
Great video!
I still don't understand why there is no mono legato with portamento in the new montage that gives you a nice gliding sound like with Kronos or Fantom and then a mid-range instrument from Yamaha has the good mono legato function
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Woww...Montage m very very powerful and wonderful
Monster ❤
Montage M is too powerful and pricey for my skills and abilities, so I'm looking for a MODX stripped down version of it.
16:20 will the software be an editor so instead of using the screen can you use the editor while playing? is the action plastic or is it wood?
Does it have all of the existing montage libraries, has it improved these, is the software coming next year just another subscription base Monet pit?
Thank you for such a great video I'm just wondering is this new VST for the montage going to be a main stage killer, And what will be their system requirements to run the software???
Hi! Do you know what the differnce between a DAW and a vst is ? Isnt mainstage a DAW?
Too bad that Yamaha didn't add AN-X on Modx units or make an AN1X Mark II with only An-x engine with affordable price
El nuevo Monatge es hermoso ❤
Good to see them bring the EX-5/7 ANx engine in finally
If they take the polyphony any higher, then we may have to think of new ways to layer stuff. 👀
Where's the dedicated YC drawbar organ emulations Yamaha?
Good keyboard. Though it seems to generally lack low end.
Just add an fx pedal eq
Woow excellent ❤sound!!!
I dont want to be negative, but i didnt hear anything i cant reproduce on my old MODX..
I know i dont have the polythony though.
8:33-I made a sound like this! So soothing.
5:00 ★
I've just never felt the Montage series compared to the Motif series. I find the montage to sound to be quite thin compared to the motif xf for example.
Seguramente es un excelente teclado!!! Si llega a argentina va a valer una fortuna!!!
Vale la pena cambiarlo por montage común?
All the sounds are from the motif from 15 years ago ,.
Any of this new sounds are compatible and able to download to first montage?
Are the libraries on the m8x the same as the libraries on the Modx8+
I want it so bad
Big sound, rich fonctionnality
Step sequencer?
I`m still learning my Montage and there is a new one?
Played it. Love it. But I can't afford it. The prices are crazy.
Does anybody know if this has a 16 track sequencer please ??
GREAT
Overall sound quality that I would expect from" MODX M", but at this price tag I would expect something else...
Is there a Rhodes demo anywhere in this video?
It’s very good.
Is sampling possible on this machine? Can I load in samples from a usb stick and them play them on the Montage M?
no
Very cool 😎👍
4:11 Sounds like straight out of a Tekken emotional sequence..
Board sound good
good sound 👍👍❤
128 elements????😮
what kind of Bert Smorenburg is this?
16:03 USB Audio...thank GOD! Thank you YAMAHA...Jesus...finally a 5000$ board with USB Audio.
How many seconds is the boot time? Thanx
