This makes me appreciate Steve Carell playing Michael Scott even more. How he used to pretend to be an actor and act terribly and also his character was terrible at lying during some scenes.
Sally is honestly such a beautifully human character. She's selfish and afraid and has a fairly limited sense of self preservation, building up to a solidly flawed character with so much room for growth and change. I'm genuinely excited to see where the story takes her.
Sally is intriguing character, i just, sometimes i hate her but right now i want to cry for her. The writers really did a good job for potraying this kind abusive situation.
Azula The Devil's Wench lmao and barry is perfect right? if we can forgive him for murdering countless people then i think we can forgive sally for being a little self absorbed...
"star wars didn't happen and it's a rad movie" is sucha great line. its also sweet because hes trying to console her in the most barry way. He's not a film snob so his knowledge of film is so basic that star wars is probably the most high brow movie that he enjoys.
@ellen johnsson theyre writing scenes about their real lives and sally is lying about standing up to her abusive ex-husband (in reality she forgave him and comforted him after he hit her) and barry is trying to gently ask her if shes lying and that if she IS lying hes saying that its okay to lie about her trauma because something doesnt have to happen in real life to be a good piece of entertainment, like star wars. hes saying that despite star wars being based on fictional events (like her account of standing up to sam) its still a great movie and her scene could still be great regardless of whether it actually happened.
Okay can I just say I love the dialogue in this scene, it's a mess but... I mean I feel like we've all been in situations like this where someone is just so upset that they're barely making sense as they talk and they can't even finish their sentences and it just feels so real.
For anyone who’s been in any kind of abusive relationship, the part at 3:02 is just crazily real. Such an incredibly well written moment. We all wish we’d done what we knew we should have in the moment.
2:55 I like how he basically admitted that he's not Barry Block and not an actual actor... because he's saying it in the same format that he recommends Sally for faking herself as courageous
Yeah, and Barry’s soft “it’s okay (to lie a little)” really got to me. She took that advice and ran a bit too far with it when she got so scared about the massive crowd at the end of the season...
@@vampbat I loved that because we see that she always has a wall up to protect herself -it was already so hard for her to be vulnerable with the class, she pushed herself a little too hard and the defense mechanism came back.
I love how honest and brutally realistic this scene is. Just because the hidden damage isn't always apparent doesn't mean it isn't there under the surface.
Of course it does. You'd think that in order for your advice to be effective, you'd have experience that matters in the first place.,You have to take your own advice to practice and heart as well;otherwise, what's the point?
I was going to say this. I felt so incredibly sad for Sally because most victims leave their absusers like she did, and the show did an incredible show portraying that she wasn't an exception and yet people didn't want that, people didn't want reality but a fantasy version where the victim gets to say what she wants and gets to have the last word. Incredibly sad.
I don't wanna break the vibe of seriousness and the topic of abus but I started crying at exactly 3:08 because BILL HADER WHISPERING IS ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL THINGS EVER
I never thought that the guy who voiced Flint Lockwood from Cloudy With The Chance Of Meatballs and Fear from Inside Out(yes,I know,it's stupid for me to know who he is by his voice rather than his face, but life had always been like that for me as I grew up,always knowing actors by name,voice,and/or face but almost never connecting the dots together) would be this great of an actor,I suppose.Let's make a note to never, ever again, underestimate our favorite comedians ever again!
@@dafilmqueen556 also, Guy Gagne from Turbo, watched it a few years ago and _a few years later_ watching his roles grow in movies and then suddenly while my nephew was watching Turbo I completely flipped out when I realized that it took me years to notice that Bill voiced out that villain *like YO WHAT THE HELL HOW DID I NOT-*
This show is written so damn well, I love how they handle these deep complicated and sometimes really dark topics. I can’t wait to see sally finally get to where she wants to be in S3, but I’m sure there’ll be something to make it all fucked again lmao
Late reply, sorry! In the show she’s SUPER self-centered/narcissistic while also being deeply insecure-it’s that combination that just pisses off a lot of people very easily. Personally I also do get annoyed by her but she’s my favorite character on the show, I think her flaws just make her a better character
@oktopustrainer Wow, you really don't understand this show. One of the main themes is trauma. And the absurdity/comedic part is that acting helps process or even "use" the trauma, even for a hitman. Hardly anyone on this show is a perfect person. Sally is self-absorbed and does selfish things sometimes, but she has her own traumas and sometimes she is held as a mirror to Barry. They both do shitty things in reaction to the scale of their own trauma. This show isn't just about an "alpha killing machine." It's sad to think you only want to see Barry shoot and kill things, and not see him interact with a realistic portrayal of a struggling actress -- the other side of his double life.
@oktopustrainer It definitely read as sarcasm to me. Also the first comment clearly didn't need commas, as it was meant to be an uninterrupted long sentence. People don't read too good apparently.
Can't stand her character, but the actress is great at being an a$$hol. The character is such a manipulative lying user that you can't believe any of her stories about her "abuse". She psychologically abuses Barry to make herself feel better about her own failures. All the while not knowing how dangerous he really is. Love the show and I hope Bill Hader gets the recognition he deserves for it.
Actors portraying bad actors have to be really good actors.
Or the people are the bad actors and the people being told to act good.
This makes me appreciate Steve Carell playing Michael Scott even more. How he used to pretend to be an actor and act terribly and also his character was terrible at lying during some scenes.
Like when Dominic West put on a bad British accent in The Wire.
This portrayal of abuse is so real. Well done writers.

@@DEMKOFILMPRODUCTIONS2022 its not ☺ I really do love how they addressed her abuse in the show.

The way he delivered it too as well 👌🏾
i mean bill hader says rad so much in his real life and he loves star wars so I don't think there was much acting in it
That shit hit me hard.

Star Wars is smart enough to not have to be high brow. It's blatantly smarter than pretty much every movie they are stooging in their acting class.
