  • Lifting tons of....grass? Overloaded trailer at the scales - Safe to say this might be a first for us at Pepe's Tow. We've lifted everything and anything day in day out, but I've never lifted grass. At least this was rolled up and sort of easy due to the light weight, it still is an interesting job showing how exactly it was done.
The poor driver wasn't even at fault; these Carson scales are notorious for being strict. The driver stated he measured at legal weight the day before, and that night just happened to be a SoCal freak rain storm. During this heavy rain, the rolls of grass absorbed all the water which put him just over weight; what bad luck right?
That's where we got the call to come over and lift a couple rolls onto a second lighter trailer. Many towers don't accept calls at the scales for fear of getting red tagged or inspected themselves, but all our trucks stay scale ready and permitted 24/7/365. Once Alex showed up in Big Flipper, our 75ton rotator, he immediately got his game plan going and went to town.
These obviously don't have lift points so you have to really be mindful of the load. Alex used a wide body foundry hook to get a bit of lift, then secured each end with a synthetic strap from Bailey's Tow Accessories. From there was as easy as taking candy from a green baby.
New trailer showed up just in time, then the two rolls were transferred and boom goes the dynamite, job well done and everyone happy! Hope you guys enjoyed this quick and easy job!

Wow another awesome job Alex. I am surprised the company that loaded that truck could screw up the weight by two roll of artificial turf like that. You would think they could estimate the weight more accurately

G'day Alex, and Josh too! Great job! Enjoying the videos!
By the way... I hope you guys, will consider investing in a full blown rappelling (body) harness for Alex, on his fishing trips. This doesn't mean you have to buy a commercially made one. A seat harness and webbing chest loop will work just fine.
Also, you can use an arm rappel if you like or go hand over hand. You can tie the rope off single strand to a tree with a bowline and send down on it and retrieve it. You can double it around a tree if it is long enough and pull it from below, but it might get sap on the rope or damage the tree. Better yet, bring a leaver sling for the purpose. If you have one locking biner (and a sling), you can belay someone down (or up) using a Munter Hitch. (the munter hitch is a useful knot that can make descending a breeze.)
    Thank you, guys!
    Cheers! ❤✌🏻😊🚛
P.S. Now for something humorous! I saw a sign on the lawn at a (local) drug rehab center, that said: ‘Keep off the Grass!!’ Lol! 🤣

I wonder if they used raw material weight for their calculations, not realizing the added infill material (eg sand) adds to the weight.
I'll bet this is used turf, that was removed and rolled without cleaning out the infill.

High Alex. I live your RUclips Channel. Just a suggestion, I find looking at the all white trucks to be very boring. Perhaps you can think about graphic packages for them. I find hulk much more interesting when you are using it. Have you thought about maybe selling advertising from your suppliers to the tricks as well. More revenue for you so you can do more with innovations for your towing industry. Thanks.
