- Wow, it's been a while. I actually filmed this video in August, right when I got back from Switzerland (that's why my grammar is horrendous, it's much better now). I didn't post it because I felt like I wasn't doing my experience justice by representing it through an 11 minute-long video. But then my iCloud ran out of storage so here we are. I hope you enjoy it!

Welchi organisation hesch gwählt und wie viel hets koschtet?
Was an exchange student in Thun (near Bern) about 28 years ago. One of the best years of my life. Still very close with my Swiss friends and host family. I think of that exchange year very often....still. 28 years.
Where were you in CH?
🇨🇭
I am going to be an exchange student to Switzerland my junior year as well! My school doesn’t offer German so I will be using Rosetta Stone. Do you think the German you learned in America made your exchange easier to take in or do you think you learned most of your skill there?
Hi, I thought my year at school provided a very basic foundation, but I also did a LOT outside of school to prepare my German (I used Duolingo every day for months and practically finished all the lessons available before leaving, and I bought a grammar book, which I thoroughly went through). Most of the German I learned was definitely while in Switzerland, and I still struggled a bit at the beginning despite all my preparations, but as long as you commit to immersing yourself in the German language while you're there, you'll do fine :)
Breanna Guo thank you for replying! I kinda want to pick your brain on this there so much ignorance before going abroad lol,how soon did you apply? Is soonest possible better? I’m going 2021-2022
@@bonniebonnie5724 No problem, ask away haha. It depends on the program you plan on going with. I went with AFS, and I think the deadline was mid October. You need a lot of medical and school forms. I can't quite remember if those were due before or after applying, though. I think that's the general time for when year programs stop accepting applications, but for the specific dates, I would check the website of the program. Some of the more common programs include AFS, Rotary and YFU.
Breanna Guo I know this is a weird question, but what exactly will my host family most likely pay for? It’s not a problem I just don’t know what to expect. Will I be buying my own clothes and essentials? Will I pay for my own “tickets” if we go someplace? I know every host family is different, what was your experience?
@@bonniebonnie5724 My host family was very generous and had a lot of essentials prepared for me, and they would pay for my food if we went out for a family dinner. Since I had a specific breakfast, I would pay for it myself (but I know that had I asked, they would have gladly paid for it for me). They also let me borrow stuff if I needed it. For clothes, I'd buy that with my own money. It depends also on the price. A lot of the time the price can be split. Don't be afraid to ask questions, I definitely wish there was more information available when I was considering my exchange!
Ваши видео так хорошие! Понравилось 😁:))喜欢你的视频,就是看的人少
Living in Switzerland did you hear any of the other languages there: French, Italian, Romansch?
Yes! I travelled with friends and my host family and went to all four language regions.
