I have gigged with both extensively. It has become my #1 guitar over all my Gibsons, Fenders, Orvilles, Reverends, and more. #fender #ichi10 #ibanez #guitarreview
I've been a Strat man most of my 20 years on guitar. For a gigging musician, this Ibanez answers all my Strat issues for love music. Strat is heavy after 4 hours, Strat is too long so I accidentally hit bandmates, Strat (though the tones are great) doesn't give any thick tones. The Ichi fixes all those. For studio work, I'll still use the Strat. For practice at home, Strat. For gigging, Ichi all the way.
Complete respect for you and this review. Working musician POV is priceless. You are to the point, well spoken, articulate and no BS/fakery. Thank You. I subscribed to your channel. Looking at the QX52 BKF as we play ZZ Top, Def Leppard etc and the frets match how I hold the guitar. Also, kudos to you for being a working guitarist AND hazing a spousal element. That ain't easy :). Looking forward to catching up to your other videos. Thanks again and Best Regards and Best Wishes!
Thanks for the wonderful video! This was actually super useful to get an idea of how different the pickups were, and it's nice to hear from someone who knows how to play!
Strats are superb though. The ICHI is almost like a wirier, more skeletal sound, a bit like a Brian May tone.Nice. I would also love a super-light Les Paul ! Thanks
I've found if you just crank the mids on the amp, the ichi sounds like a Strat. The additional length and weight of the Strat are my main issues for live situations. I also occasionally miss humbucker sounds on a Strat, and the 1st and 5th positions with the alter switch on give the ichi great full humbucker-ish tone. Still though, I can't bash a Strat. I used one for my primary stage guitar for about a decade.
I've got the Q54 and a QX52 and I love them. I've been thinking of rounding off my collection with this ICHI10. You make it sound better than that start. Think I'm going to find a good used one since I think Ichi has swtiched to another style. I do agree the fret markers are hard to see at night. Have you tried just keeping a flashlight handy and running it across the neck to get the dots glowing? Thx for the video.
I bought a Q54 thinking it would give me a nice humbucker alternative, but I wasn't a fan. The hardware is a little cheaper on the Q54 than the ICHI, and the humbuckers didn't do the classic "humbucker thing" There's a used Ichi10 on Reverb for under $700 right now. Total steal. If I didn't already have 2 of them, I'd scoop it up.
@@realkylehooks Yup.. I'm going to try and check it out this weekend. Will be in the area of the seller. If all works out might jump on it but at least I'll know how they feel. SO really the Q54 has "cheaper" hardware? I would have thought it was all the same. The Q54 is my main of the 2 that I have and I do agree it's not the best humbucker, but I play in neck alot so I deal.
Hi.. What's your opinion on the neck profile of that Ibanez? I just compared it with the Strat and it was quite a big difference in the feeling in the hand, the Ibanez was more like a D profile, I quickly returned to the Strat because it seems more pleasant, more comfortable C.. The Ibanez felt like I was holding a broom in my hand..but it was probably also the absence of a head. Maybe I would get used to it with time, but I didn't want to risk it.. Thanks.
Was the specific Ibanez you were playing the ICHI10? Most Ibanez use a ~16" radius which feels too flat to me, but the Ichi uses a 12", which doesn't feel *too* different than a typical Strat 9.75" radius. The Ichi uses a wizard C, most Strats are modern C. It feels a lot closer to a Strat neck than other Ibanez I've played. From my main Strat to the Ichi, the main difference I feel is the texture. My Strat has a little bit of glossy feel, the Ichi is satin and slides super easy. I personally go through phases. I play Strats for a while, then switch to Gibson Midtowns for a while and the neck feels weird for a day or two, then the Ichi and that feels weird for a day or two. Because of the ergonomics though, the Ichi has a permanent spot as my show guitar. It's a pretty neutral neck shape overall, very different than most Ibanez I've played. Less than 1mm difference in neck thickness and width
@@realkylehooks No. I was referring to the neck profile, not the fretboard radius.. I was comparing an Ibanez QX54 and a Stratocaster Classic 60's. Thanks
Hello Kyle !! great Video! i ask you.. what do u think about this guitar? do u like in comparision with Strat or Les Paul? How are the pickups ? Has the guitar a good single coil sound and a good humbuker sound or not? Do you ever try stranberg guitars? Do you prefer ibanez or Strandberg? Thanks a lot! Max
Overall I love the guitar. I have a custom shop Strat, but I prefer the Ibanez for live. I have a Les Paul Custom, but I prefer the Ibanez for live. The pickups are very articulate without the alter switch on. With the alter switch it sounds very similar to humbuckers. High output, mid rangey, fat tone. I've played a Strandberg and liked it just fine, but the price was high. The Ibanez is just as good. The tones are very good and versatile, the neck is comfortable, it's very lightweight, the price is great, and it takes up less stage space. It's the best guitar for LIVE music I've ever played, and it is a great value for the price for studio work.
Heck yeah. What guitar(s) do you play now? The pickups are a little different like I mentioned in the video, but I think you can EQ into whatever kind of sound you're looking for. It's a great guitar. I'm playing mine again tonight for an outdoor show in Destin, FL...hot and humid, but this thing keeps kicking. Btw, for fun I've played string from 007 up to 010 on this guitar. It sounds great with any of them, but the 007s were too thin for me to play in tune. I'm rocking Ernie Ball slinky cobalt 8-38 now, and it sounds great.
Dude that sucks. I wonder if there are consistently QC issues with these. I've been gigging in horrible conditions for gear for months now with this thing, and no issues. I've been playing mostly outdoor beach shows while wearing full suits, so the sweat has been profuse to say the least. Everything is still working great. The only thing that's starting to fail is the paint, but you aggressively play 4 hours a night while sweating like mad while wearing scratchy sequins suits...the paint gets torn up, as is the case with every guitar I've ever gigged with. Please let me know if you find out what the specific issue is with your bridge pickup!
That's part of why I bought it. I was expecting the glow in the dark markers to help onstage, but they don't help at all. With bright lights in your eyes, but the lights at an angle that doesn't really shine on the markers much, the glow feature was useless. The tape I used, while a bit ugly, is a far superior option for visibility.
I've played both. To my hands and ears, there's not really a discernible difference in quality. Both are in the 4-5lb range. The Strandberg doesn't have the volute like the Ibanez, and that makes it harder to play. The volute makes the Ibanez feel like it has a headstock, so it gives your hands a nice spot to reference like on a regular guitar. I have another headless guitar that lacks the volute, and I never play it.
Hi there, I don't have videos of myself playing it, but I own a Strandberg Nx7 boden standard. If you can afford it , I would highly recommend it. The fishman pickups are incredible. The EndurNeck is fantastic for ergonomics . I have an Ibanez Quest X54 QM and it's a lovely guitar but I think it's perhaps not as high quality as the Strandberg.
There are many different Strandberg models so do some research and it depends what you're looking for. I mainly play progressive metal as well as some Jazz and classical so the Strandberg suits me. But i do love the ibanez too. I just find myself reaching for the Strandberg more ( it standa out to me in sound and comfort) Anyway I hope that helps 😊
Okay so I just got new strings on my Ibanez quest and I have fallen in love with it again. Strandbergs and Ibanez quest are both my favourite guitars. I recently got a Fender acoustasonic too haha 😆 so I'm very poor now
@@Nickshreds890 I need to make a follow up video. I've now been using this Ibanez for 6 months gigging 4-5 nights a week in Florida, mostly outdoors. It has battle scars and plenty of unavoidable wear and tear...and STILL rocking. I gotta put new strings on it every other night though because my sweat makes them rust so quickly.
These technically glow in the dark, but the markers don't get enough light exposure on stage to noticeably glow. If you take it outside in the sun then take it into a closet, sure, but in practice, it's useless. I'd love to see the Strandberg's fret markers in the same conditions to compare
@@realkylehooks you’re right, it I figured that’s how it might work. Unless it’s exposed to direct sunlight or flashlight from your phone then it’s useless.
