    I play Alekhine defense and if my opponent doesn't play E5 I often transpose into Czech defense.

      Oh wow. Never even thought of that but that's awesome! I usually play 2. Nc3 with white beause I don't want the smoke with the Alekhine's Defense... how often do you run into 2. Nc3?

    I might have to check out that course. I've been playing the classic Pirc for the last year but I started with d6 with the Czech Pirc and I still play it situationally.

    Hello solomom, i feel happy when you technically compare between the pirc & hipoo defenses in addition to the modern defense which you have discussed it thoroughly through 3 or 4 intersting vidoes. Once again, keep it up & have a pleasant day.

      Hey what's up! Cool good to hear, ya I always think it's interesting comparing different chess openings and see how they stack up against one another, not just with Stockfish, but with the psychological aspect of things. Thank you and you have a great day as well! Thanks for tuning in.

    I used to play the Caro-Kann. Played it most of my life. But now that I'm older this concept of rare strong openings was my thought as well and I started playing the Moderm Philidor/Old Indian complex since you can play that against the English also.
    But I saw Akobian's lecture on this and it really peaks my interest even more.

    Czech Defense gives the Queen check option. Really good for noobs like me for sure. But it's also a tournament level opening. So it's good for everybody.

    • @TheChessGiant
      @TheChessGiant  3 месяца назад +1

      Agreed! Ya we've seen GMs get trampled by it and we've seen many beginners enjoy the opening as well. Pretty cool. Not all openings are like this though. I would say it's very rare (have I ever seen it idk?) that I see a beginner chess player getting great results with the Sicilian Najdorf.

      @TheChessGiant yes that's right Im a smurf troll. Too dumb but at the same time not dumb, to know what he's talking about, but at the same time, maybe, he's just some smart guy playing dumb. Or maybe he's just dumb? Who cares? Hehehe.

    I'm with you a 100%. Strong rare openings are the way to go. Even in correspondence. I play turn based chess, which is like correspondence and I always use unusual defenses: Nimzowitsch, Owen's, the occasional Latvian. And I rarely end up with a bad game. I'm going to have to try the Hippo and the Czech Pirc. Can't have too many good rare openings in the arsenal. Now I just need to find something against the Sicilian. I have been using the Snyder Sicilian (2.b3), which is rare, and I generally get a good game as the black player doesn't know what to do with it. But another tool in the box would be welcome. Strong and rare! Yes!

      It actually works really well against the auto-move London in online Blitz, since it routinely leads to winning a piece.

    I’m a 42 y/o beginner (just taking up chess as a hobby to keep the brain sharp as I get old), and I’m only at ~530 elo (I do exercises/study openings and play bots every day, but limit myself to only 1-2 games per week on a weekend morning; otherwise, I’d get too sucked into playing online chess, and I’m trying to keep chess from becoming my entire life!). I prefer rare(r) openings for my elo, but I get flack from more experienced players for not playing straightforward Italian or Spanish openings. I play the Caro as black when I get served e4, but I beat their familiarity by taking them down the Tarktakower or another line that I know I know better than they do (which isn’t saying much at my level).
    What do you say for beginners like me? I’m never gonna be a ranked anything, I know my ‘natural style’ isn’t the equivalent of running straight ahead into the offensive line of the other side. Do I need to “prove myself” by playing their kind of game?

    Unsound chess. Club players should learn opening principles and not to play on last two ranks. These kind of openings like Hypo can be played by masters who understand the game inside out.If you want to improve play sound openings , fight for the center, develop, understand tactics and strategy and not play for tricks as it is recommened in this video so he can only sell his video courses... Cheers.

    • @cdickson01
      @cdickson01 2 месяца назад

      I would argue quite the opposite. Learning openings like the Hippo can give you a reasonable opening to give you a solid position in the midgame. Solomon gives out so much free content that it's unfair for you to accuse him of only selling his courses. Sounds like you're just a little jealous of him and a hater.
