the reason why the slopes, loop-de-loops, and trapezoids won't work its because the engine its running on wasn't programed for those. It was made with the SMS versions of Sonic 1 & 2 in mind, games whose didn't include these gimmicks. (although i recall SMS S2 having loops afaik)
Those "zig zag slides" are Mobius Strips (or at least they're based on the concept of a Mobius Strip) aka, the responsibles of the confusion on the 90's that gave name to Sonic's World to Western media
Nope. I can confirm the mania styled remake is dead. The devs stopped working on it for personal reasons.

I play this game when I was a kid. I likes the musics of Sonic Chaos. 😅😊
The dev of the mania style remake is STILL working on it but has not giving us a release date.
They're still working on it? It's been a while I thought it was cancelled
