The Great Atchafalaya Basin

Efforts to save the Atchafalaya Basin are highlighted with visuals of the largest wetland and swamp in the United States. Located in south central Louisiana, it is a combination of wetlands and river delta area where the Atchafalaya River and the Gulf of Mexico converge.

I live near the Canadian Rockies. First time I was driven near the Atchafalaya Basin I was hooked. I could live out my life near the basin and help to protect it and maybe restore it. The species living there in the waters and land and both, and in the air astound me. Utterly breathtaking. So so beautiful.

I have crossed it thousands of times. Used to do it four times a week stoped at Wiskey Bay. Fish it been all over it. I live about one hour and a half from it. The only places that comes close is Amazon Forest and Antartica. But the all round beauty is the peace you feel. God Jesus and Holy Spirite.. are all around. Thanks for the video. Since this river basin is the Western corse of the Mississippi river it's only a matter of time before the river shifts and when it does it will scoure out the river bottom and most of the basin will drain and become a hardwood forest. Meanwhile, New Orleans will flood and subside while a new delta forms in the Gulf. This will happen.

I grew up on the edge of it, hunted and fished in it,, and now live in it. basically. We live in Butte Larose.
