- Paddling through the Atchafalaya with Andy Bugh. Andy embarked on an epic journey from Montana to the Gulf of Mexico in a kayak. This is an extended excerpt from the movie, River in My Soul, coming soon. We welcome your feedback.
Thank you for highlighting our great state of Louisiana and our culture.
I m from Louisiana but live in Philippines. The people in LA. are some of the friendliest people around n the most beautiful place. God's peace b with u all n love u all!! The guy with the big umbrella might be my kin folk. I m a Daigle in Philippines. Sure do miss our camp n hunting on the Mermentau river. Remember God loves us all unconditionally.
The quiet eloquence of the young Crawfish Fisherman is a pleasure to hear. He's blessed and has sense enough to know it. I wish him and his people well.
his people??
@@LilMOMMAson "His people" means him and his "kin folk." You are obviously not from the south.
Well done, and making the trip from Montana to the Atchafalaya with enough joy left to still explore backwaters really shows your enjoyment of the trip. Thanks for sharing!
SIR I know I’m seeing this late but man this was a beautiful video, you truly are blessed.
Very well done. Thanks for sharing your journey. I. Grew up just out of New Orleans and was raised in the outdoors. I am now a inshore Charter Captain at the mouth of the Mississippi River. I get to see the stuff in your video every weekend. I STILL watched your whole video and enjoyed it. The locals stories were great.

Excellent production values. I have fished that area of the basin as well as other places in it many, many times and you captured the spirit of the place and its people well. I live on Big Muddy near New Orleans and we have a large eagles nest nearby. Have seen many along the river. So good to have them back. Well done, Andy.
Outstanding mini-documentary
How can any sane person give this a thumbs down!? Beautiful Andy, well done! Being from Louisiana and having spent time in the basin, harvesting my first deer there, you have truly captured a great view of the Atchafalaya. Thanks, Merci!
Thanks for letting me tag along with ya on this magnificent trip. Enjoyed seeing you meeting those folks in the Bayou's. Bless each one of them that were willing to tell us some stories. Hospitable folks for sure. I can't say enough thank you's. God Bless. NW ga.
Louisiana Good people, good food,i love louisiana.
Thanks, you're right.
Wonderful movie. Very enjoyable. I to was raised and grew up fishing for fun, for food and, for a living in my younger years on a river the apalachicola in Fl. This movie brought back memories of a more simple time in life. I hope there will always be these kind of folks in this movie
Why can't there be more content like this on here. Reminded me of Wild America with Marty Staufer. You did a great job, thanks
Love this video. Thank you for sharing!
My great Uncle drown in that river when his boat flipped. He owned a general store along it's banks. As a kid in the late 70's I visited that store which remained untouched since his passing in the 50's. My Aunt Leona still lived next door. She walked bent at a 90 degree angle at the waist from picking pecans off the ground. One day she couldn't straighten up. The store was stuffed with so many coke and other antiques you could've sold them and retired very young the problem was it was also stuffed with wasps and you couldn't get a foot in the door.
Beautiful. Though I live here and see it every day, I never get enough, and especially enjoy seeing others enjoying and appreciating it... :-)
And let the Gators nibble on the tourists.
You probably dont care but does someone know of a tool to get back into an instagram account..?
I was stupid forgot my account password. I appreciate any help you can offer me!
@Frederick Demetrius Instablaster =)
A very moving video to watch.
Andy you did what most peoples want too and are scared to even attempt.
May God bless you and all the peoples you met along your trip.
I grew up in the Atchafalaya Basin, but live in the north Arkansas Ozarks. Been here for about 31 years, but still miss the swamp.
Finding this video made my day. The basin is one of the most amazing places around.
Great scenery; interesting folks living a life that some can only dream of. Thanks Andy!!

We are all waiting more video you gonna post. We love to watch them all. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful trip. I used to come in from the offshore oil platforms to Morgan City to crew change and supplies for the rigs.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful trip.
Thank you, Andy for editing and posting this video. I am from New Orleans and I have spent countless hours in Lafayette, New Iberia, Morgan City, and many of the small communities that dot the Atchafalaya. I can't always go home when I want, but I can go there with your video!
Thank you for sharing your incredible adventure. My kayaking so far has been limited to relatively calm civilized waters. Actually today was the roughest so far with waves coming over the bow on my Wilderness System Tarpon 120 SOT. You've inspired this 61 year old man to consider a river trip. Probably the Brazos, just west of Fort Worth. Need a crew or at least a partner. We'll see.
Well done. I am on the Atchafalya every other week and this video is a great representation of the area.
Great video. Hearing the people's stories was interesting. Thanks Andy.
Very cool!! Thanks for sharing!! 🇺🇸
Beautiful video of our basin - my favorite place to be!
Great video.
You know what, I REALLY enjoyed your video. Thank you.
Beautiful. Ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God.
❤

Thank you Andy,
Your video was an inspiration to my life. I want to do something like you did but life is in the fast lane and holding me back. This is like a dream to me. Hoping that I can do something like you did someday soon. Thanks for the video and the inspiration to all of us.
Awsome vidoe, Awesome trip. Way to go bro.
Really enjoyable. Peaceful.
Liveing with nature is a priveledge most of us don't get,
love how he just nonchalantly baits the net, no bag, by throwing it in as he's talking
My greatest admiration to Stephen Miguez & his family. Real American family.
This is really good.
Awesome video!! Wow!!
14:30 you can take the swamp man outta the swamp but you can’t take the swamp outta the swamp man.
What a BEAUTIFUL VIDEO! Thanks so much for posting. I'm from south GA, but have taken a keen interest in Louisiana life and culture after following a RUclips channel called "Dat Louisiana Life." It's about a family that has a weekend houseboat and they share all of their MANY outdoor adventures on there.
Awesome video man i would love to do a trip like that with my family
Stephan for president ! Nice video my baw
I love my state
Ghoshdangit, I love these good folks
Although I do not go down there often, I miss my South Louisiana heritage!
Excellent video
That Louisiana Cajun accent...is something else. 😎
Most interesting and unknown part of the country.
oh my it so cool .
Awesome video! Out of curiosity how long did the journey take you?
The guy that took you on the swamp tour was awesome.
Great video! I was born in Covington Louisiana, lived in Waldheim. Dad got a job in Grapevine Texas when I was 9 and we moved. Fast forward 28 years....I was on a date with this gal and in making conversation she asks me “if you could move anywhere in this world where would it be...money isn’t an issue, kids aren’t an issue...where would it be?” Without questioning or giving a second thought I said “Louisiana” she kinda gave me this half cocked look and said “really....” I said “oh yeah, without a doubt in heartbeat!” Needless to say we didn’t have a second date hahaha She just don’t understand
nice owl hooting in the back ground he's saying '' Who cooks for you? Who cooks for you all?''
Going to pick up some crawfish tomorrow by BJ's Seafood in Chalmette..yum yum
Thanks
Lived in berwick la. Back in the 70's
I miss that swamp.
How did you stay on course, gps?, what back ups?, how do you keep battery change, what systems do you suggest? Thanks, I’m going to do this
As a fellow paddler what type of kayak, tent and other provisions did you carry and other good advice would be appreciated. Thanks and Paddle On !!,
So honestly, how much weight did you lose on this trip? I like the Atchafalaya as it's one of two rivers that flow entirely through the state to the gulf. I live along the Red, the Atchafalaya is east of us. These multi state navigable waterways are a national treasure. I'm happy to see someone beefing up our environmental protections. You captured some amazing footage there, Andy. Maybe you should put together a short and submit it to the Louisiana Film Prize.
How did you get threw the locks?? Im gonna do it some day. Im already starting to plan the trip!! How long did it take you to make the trip??
yep
Andy, is there a way of figuring “river miles”? I want to run the Trinity in Texas but need a way of planning how much time to allow. Thanks.
Jay use the ruler function on google earth and set it to path
Patty, I'm the most inept person on the computer. If I gave you the start and stop points, could you calculate the distance for me?
All I could think about this whole video was bass fishing, and duck hunting
Where is the Yellow Camp located? What canal, etc is it located on?
how many days did it take you to kayak from montana to the gulf? oh and yes you are truly blessed
I'd like to know as well
Sorry to see there's no more from you
0:40-1:00 is my kind of guy

It's the not exactly land of not exactly water. It's useless unless it's what you want, and then, it's the best. Good.
