- In the trucking industry when everything goes perfectly smooth things may not be what they seem, at least for this driver. Join Indiana Jack, the truck driver as he picks up a truckload of water in Florida and attempts to deliver it in Orlando Florida.
The joys of paper work! Most truck in Europe have built in scales in the truck so you know straight away if you over loaded and where and why. Great video as always ~ I used to live in FL and it nice to see the place again
When i seen Publix i knew there would be a problem. Them and HEB in San Antonio TX the worst grocery places to deliver to. I drove for almost 40 yrs and hate them. I am 68 yrs old and retired now but love to watch your videos. Brings back so many memory's. Good and bad. Keep the sunny side up and the dirty side down stay out of the ditches and the bears out of your britches and keep on trucking. PS. Thanks for the memory's. From the crankeyyankee and the wife tagalong.
I'm starting to follow you, I like your professional tatics, I'm learning a lot from you.
I'm a new graduate. ...
Well Jack you said trucking is an adventure, now you've got one. Good Luck.
Thank you for making the videos - love your attitude.
Got to love good ol' Publix. They pretty much own central Florida, and soon the rest of the east coast.
Next time.....on Screwed Up Deliveries! Indiana Jack makes the Yellow Vested Guy wear his iPad for a necktie!
Perfect yellow vested guy should have p.o. list handy whether on paper or iPad
Bypassing the scale...ridge runnin water to Orlando!!!!
I love this kind of episode! "Find out if Jack just gets so perturbed, he drops the box in they're lot and tells them to... find out what he said". too phunny! :)
Remember Jack, "Trick-or-Treat"
Great Jack...just waiting to see part two !!!
The fun never ends.
Refusing an individual pallet or two, or tossing odd/damaged boxes back on can take even more time to straighten out. Most think you're a direct delivery service, and going straight back to the shipper.
Jack thanks for the ride along even though it was a short one.
These videos are great.
Ya see it's things like this that make me iffy bout going into the industry all that sitting around unloading and loading just to get rejected and treated poorly seems it happens more often than not thats a part of life eh.. much respect to you and the rest of the fleet, the true back bone of America keep on truckin
Thank you for going down that road, that was beautiful landscape to watch. Great video and thanks, be safe out there on the roads. "Bus syndrome" Haha, that was funny.
You are absolutely right on the shipper being fined in place of the driver. My bet is the over loading would stop LOL
Lol great ending Jack now i will be filled with anticipation to see part two
Hello Jack I got my CDL A learners permit today, start at the range Tuesday. So that what I have to expect sometime, never thought about the load getting refused. Wonder what happen next? Keep um coming Jack
on your way back up into the states you should take 301, ya there's stoplight along the way but you pass through some cool small towns, I should know cause I live in Starke and 301 runs right through the middle of Starke.
Publix DC on Sand Lake and OBT! Pass by there all the time! NOT a good area to get stuck in at all! Only truck stop is the ACME truck stop about 3 miles south on OBT but its HORRIBLE! For future reference if your ever stuck in the area again on the North-east corner of OBT and sand lake there's an old target with a huge parkinglot. I see OTR trucks parked there all the time and no one seems to bother them! Keep Trucking!
Great work as always, Jack :) I loved the cliffhanger. I would watch the next episode anyway, but I love the suspense piece. I've been where you are so many times...
This is like a TV series! But you wait longer than a week for the next episode! lol
It will be Friday.
Excellent can't wait! I have delivered to Publix before. They are difficult as any other grocery warehouse.
+Ryan Taylor Have you delivered to Costco?
+indianajacktrucker No not Cosco. But Albertsons in Phoenix isn't fun and Jewel in Melrose Park
+indianajacktrucker Great Jack thanks for the update.
love your videos.
Oh Lordy, I've travelled back in time to the Saturday matinee serials. :)
I agree with you. I think that a shipper that consistently loads heavy loads at or near max weight should have a scale onsite and load all outbound trucks for free. Don't charge them to weigh, like so many places do.
Great name for this episode - I think the clue is in the word picture . Thank you from a Scotsman in his bath.
Hey jack I think I saw you near Memphis a couple weeks ago!! I was heading north on Us 78 I think it was right around that pilot I saw you heading south.
i remember once making a meat delivery in Manhatten, had to go thru 64 stop and go lights to reach my delivery point, then had to wait. you mentioned different foods, in the east, well i got something I thought was good, ended up getting sick. lol.
Another great video, (could be because I grew up in High Springs) haha. High Springs has world famous cave diving at several of the springs , as well as many deaths from inexperienced divers not making it out. Well that turned rather morbid quickly, anyhoo ,safe travels ,look forward to part due!!!
You are absolutely right about the over weight thing, send the over weight ticket to the shipper. After they have to pay a few fines, they will make sure they never load too much on any trailer, and that would solve that problem.
You would think the truck industry would invent on-board axle sensors to monitor weight (the same way we do tire pressure now). There is a lot of technology out there to fix most of Jack's peeves, but the industry moves at a glacial pace.
The truckers seem to be the only player in the logistics industry that is motivated to work at peak efficiency. Every other element (trucks, terminals, truck stops, roads, government) are ripe for disruption and streamlining.
Great video
thanks jack

So close to me J. Ever down this way? Bradenton,Fl?
we are the system of checks and balances Jack!
Welcome to the Federation Jack!
This was now a surprise ! While watching , there I parked wright next to Indiana Jack ! That while I am sitting in my truck in Johannesburg South Africa ! Hhahhahaaaa...... Exactly the same as the one I am driving ; colour ,freightshaker , mirrors ext. ! Could as well be me ! (smile)
Not a freightshaker, that'd be a Volvo! Yes on the sameness, the world is in no danger of running out of ***holes!
+Zig Zag hahahaaa.......
Wait untill next time? Jack I might have to give you a smack, lol Loved the video.
I get your point about the weight and the shipper BUT, the driver is ultimately responsible for the product weight and the gross weight of their truck. Every driver should know how much weight they can haul. I use to haul produce and the max weight I could haul was 44,800 lbs. When I picked up a load the first question at my pick up was "how heavy is it"? If it was too much I told them to adjust. Shippers will always try to put more product on and unfortunately the driver is always to blame when something goes wrong.
what make of truck do you prefer and why. how you ever had many problems with Volvo.
Hi Jack. we use to haul pop here in uk and it was always well heavy 26 pallets well on 26 ton 52000 pounds ??.Great vids thanks Martin.
Your in FL a lot why don't you get a Sunpass for the Turnpike?
Tthank you so much for that statement about the pink buses here in orlando pink bus syndrome. went to get gas and low and behold a pink bus i started to laugh GOD BLESS YA MAN I NEEDED A GREAT LAUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HAVE FUN HERE IN SO CALLED MICKEY MOUSE LAND! BE CARE FULL NIGHT TIME ASK ABOUT WHERE YOU ARE GOING SOME REALLY BAD PLACES IN ORLANDO! ALOHA! YOUNG MAN!
Food warehouses....the reason I left dry van 16 years ago. Been pulling a tanker ever since. I'll quit trucking before I stop pulling a tanker.
do you check the cargo to see if it properly secure before leaving the shipper?
Where's a link to part 2, or is there no part 2 after all?
heard of a local owner operator who always runs overweight as he reckons it better to pay the occasional fine than always run light
i love ur videos
brother Jack,
load refused? been there, done that! recently i took a load of Jeeps from Belvedere, Illinois to Charlotte, NC.... get there and they refuse the load. i had to sit there for 2 days before i could deliver, of course i didn't get paid for the 2 days. ... Carhauler Tim
Oh brother...look forward to seeing the conclusion. ;)
what a mess times money and fuel sorry to see a load have so many issues jack.. australia is a nightmare for heavy loads as well
Indiana Jack, what is the idling law in Florida? I learned one can't use their APU unless you have a dog on board, is that true?
I may have over looked it in earlier videos but what part of Indiana are you from? I am originally from Lake County, IN.
Hi, I'm not in the business, but is it possible when you get the manifest and it shows more weight than can be on the truck to be legal, to tell the shipper to take some off?
I've actually picked a load up from there going to Huntsville ala
Reminds me of a former CEO - stay focused. Stay on target. No talking amongst the cubicles. The servers know all. Don't stray from our core compentency. Turn down any sale with less than 18% gross profit. Would you rather have 10% of something, or 100% of nothing? I agree with Jack - list it as refused, and let the customer go get it when it's conveeenient!
Same sad old story - garbage in = garbage out. It only takes one idiot to cause thousands of dollars of wasted time and effort!
Oh well , you still had the "last laugh"...........(smile)
Jack, great show. I've been enjoying watching many of them. This is probably a dumb question but do you guys get paid anything for deadhead? Also, I'm remembering you saying that the newer automatic trucks get more like 9 miles per gallon on those heavy loads where as it seems like you get 6ish. How long would it take to make the new truck pay for itself with that math?
lets see if water weighs about 8.33lbs per gallon you had about 5400 gallons of water :) that number could be a bit high because I don't know the weight of packaging too, just the water's weight. learned this stuff in my welding layout class.
Sounds like many a load I've had in the UK when I was trucking
Did I hear correctly at the end that he didn't want to touch your iPad?
+Tom Cunningham I think he got the impression that Jack wanted him to take it and check the PO#, which he would have had to go all the way back to the office to do.
Pt 2? aren't in order. Ty
Thanks, I fixed it.
what type of GPS you have in your truck, if is a good GPS for trucks please let me know where did you get it
I don't know the model number, but he's running a modern Rand McNally Trucking GPS. You can find them on Amazon.
ALOHA JACK! WHY IZ YALL MESSING WITH US FLORIDAIANS ABOUT THE PINK BUS! JUST MESSING WITH YA MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! UR FUNNY THE PINK BUS SYNDROME THAT MADE ME LAUGH! ALOT! THANKS MAN I NEED A GOOD LAUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1970S 1980S ALOT OF THE HOUSES IN MIAMI WERE PAINTED PINK MAYBE THAT WHY THEY DID THAT HERE IN SO CALLED MICKEY MOUSE LAND!? ALOHA DRIVER GOD BLESS YA MASIVELY BEE SAFE OUT THERE INDIANA JACK ALOHA!
I tried the universal PO number once (SW-44-MAG), they took the load but it cost me 500 for bail......
Can't wait to see the conclusion to this. If all he needed was a PO number then ask for that first.
Patton Oswalt works at the Publix now?
I agree completely. . Although, Not much makes sense .. Us getting fined for overweight loads, paying receivers a hefty fee (lumpers) for them to unload "their shit", which we brought to them.. Late fees for being a little late but no fee for them taking inexcusably long times to load or unload their stuff... Drivers are treated like GARBAGE
HUGE price to pay just to get home brother! Sorry 4 your troubles!!!!
You say you are losing your shirt on the water load because it is heavy. Does the transportation quote not include how heavy the load is? It only makes sense that heavy loads charge more.
It usually gives weight but this one didnt. Since it was water I knew it would be heavy. Like a friend said "You should have just deadheaded." He was right.
Thanks. I really enjoy your videos. Happy trucking.
Hockey Nutt
You got to be kidding!!! p.o. number trailer and truck number that the load is being hauled should be in the receiver's hands by the time truckers deliver their loads? I know how you feel, Indianajack.
I always
hated grocery warehouses!! they are so picky!!
I fully agree, shippers should be responsible for the correct weight, not the driver.
This drop off place is literally minutes from the place i'm getting my cdl at, this school called mid florida tech.
I believe the pink bus is a "cancer awareness" bus.
You should see our towns pink fire truck and pink police car.
Just curious, when you and another driver are sitting side by side getting unloaded do you ever just hang out and shoot the shit?
Statimtek every once in awhile.
It's always a pain when they refuse a load.
Jack, why am I seeing so many videos that begin with something that sounds like it's coming over the CB and saying, the city of Memphis declared a state of emergency at 9 o'clock last night?
I learned along time ago not to offer to do anything extra as kindness, every time I do, it ends up that way.
I've never had a gun drawn on me at a scale house.
Oh Jack that's just painful to watch really gets the stomach juices flowing
I agree with some of your statement, the shipper should know the weight of each pallet and then load up to the agreed maximum load with the driver. Most shippers get the driver involved in the load count. Also they don't have a certified scale on site. In your case they did state the loaded weight on the shipping papers, you accepted it and drove out on the highway. SO KNOW IT"S YOUR PROBLEM. To make the matter worse you planned to not scale the load, this you stated on tape. If you had a bad smash the DOT/Police have an admission recorded on tape. Come on man wake up and stay safe.
The trucking industry from the likes of Swift down to the owner operator need to get the Police, DOT and uncle John Cobble en all. Involved in sorting this out, the longer you accept loads the longer the shippers are going to dump the problem on you.
go to Walmart and have a bottled water truck load sale
do you ever deal with unpaid miles. what I mean is say you have a trip that pays 1000 miles but you actually have to drive 1100 miles or so...? is that industry-wide or just some companies that you know of?
Old question, but low mile pay vs. reality happens regularly.
Some companies/brokers always use 'movers guide' mileage that's about 10% short. You learn which ones and figure it into decisions.
Scammed that way on miles, you learn quick to ask if it's mover's guide mileage from any you aren't familiar with, while looking up a quick estimate yourself.
Drivers will change companies for a nickel more/mile, then lose it right back when paid fewer miles. O/O's get paid loaded miles more often than not, but some leases pay 'dispatched' miles. Drivers need to check for the same differences, occasionally empty miles are not paid or at a different rate.
whoo hoo the new fim is here :))
you pulled a dukes of hazzard
I hope you keep in contact with me. I believe you'd be an excellent video trainer.
Happy trails and I hope that you get the blessed loads and deliveries!
Elaine
PO/Order number problems, yep, anyone that's ever delivered to a Tesco's RDC in the UK knows about them!
+Mikey Dunn and don't forget 30mins either side of your booking time and then they keep you there for 3hrs
+Roger Lanchbury Yeah, and hope you never get a 14:00 drop because you will not be getting unloaded until 15:00 at least (Goole/Crick particularly), lol.
So what is up? You gonna dump that durn water or what?
Jack I have just watched your video about being over weight. I am a trucker in the U.K. We run with tri axle trailers and never have trouble being over weight. We can gross out at 44tons.Why don't your trailer makers do this.
Sounds like you miss Chicago, talking about O-Hare Airport & Chicago made Dixie cups. Obama flew over my house yesterday in one of those osprey planes very low. Very noisy plane.
+Paul Wicklund Given the history of the Osprey, you're lucky they kept on flying. I'd much sooner hop on a 50 year old DC-3 than one of those things! Dead stick, I bet the Osprey has the glide slope of a frozen turkey.
ve must adhere to za rulez!!
Sometimes I wonder if you drive around stark naked from the waist down in these videos. What's your secret Jack?
I suppose the reason the Shipper (aka known as the man in the ivory tower) is not being fined for overloading the truck, is because he is paying off the politician(s) that should amend the law.
Jean paul sartre was right " l ' enfere c' est l autres" ( hell is created by the others) . hang in there Jack maybe those guys at the receiver will get kidneystones due to poor hydration
I guess we have to wait 3 weeks for the ending of the video.
Florida lets you go 38000 on an axle
I'm not a trucker but enjoy these shows. Aren't the drivers responsible for whats loaded on their trucks? Seems like if you know you are over-weight and still drive, you should expect trouble. I was just wondering.
+stan crouch that's why there are scales for them to weigh their truck on top of other laws like bridge laws, but, some shippers will willingly overload a truck if it's going a short distance and there are no dot scales in the area or routes to bypass the scale which Jack did. Any good DoT officers/State Troopers who happen to drive by and noticed the bulging trailers would pull him over for inspection and some of them carry mobile scales. At either rate he's talking about Shippers who willingly and purposely overload trucks are the ones who should receive the fines.
The problem is shipppers understate the weight of their product. Another thing is you have to read the bol to see if the weight includes pallets or is just product. The pallets add 1100 pounds or more. water, beer, and recyclable are the worse because they are always heavy.
Talk about a "Jobsworth"!! That guy is just being awkward for the sake of it but the shipper is most definitely wrong in their behaviour as well.
cliff hanger
Oh the agony...
