  • This time, Pat was hooked on to something near the bottom in 300 feet of water; perhaps a grouper. After about an hour of fighting the fish, the drag on the reel heated and locked, which caused the line to break. The electric winch was still running pefectly. We thought the fish would pull the rod holder out of the boat's fiberglass, so we had the rod tied to cleats!
    * Make sure this winch is not confused with a "fish winch." You may not call it that, though that is the most appropriate way to describe the equipment. The name is trademarked.
    This one was bought from eBay, made in the USA probably about 50 years ago, and still pulls Amberjack up quickly on 24V DC. I'm sure it contains no plastic pieces.
