Vekoma is suddenly good now, they are actually making quality rides
Most of theirs are good excluding SLCs
Absolutely agree. Vekoma really has been having a solid streak of quality rides.
Computerized engineering equalizes the playing field because you don't need to count as much on people to make or break a ride. You still need better designers to make rides with good layouts but not to merely make a ride smooth.
*cough cough* Speed of Sound *cough cough*
Not really sudden. They stopped making rough shitty coasters quite a while ago, and basically every custom coaster they've built this decade is good.
Solid review! Ridden the clone at EnergyLandia, and I think your comments are fair and very accurate :)
I agree one shouldn't expect extremely intense ride, but also agree this is considerably more dynamic than your average Family coaster. In short, it's a great fit for Dollywood 👌😃
My family at the front at 2:28 My son with his hands up and you can see the wrist band that Taylor gave him in the line. He was so excited to meet you. Thanks for being so cool.
Did Vekoma get new staff or something? Some of their newer stuff have been fantastic!
Yep, the old generation of engineers and designers are (getting) retired so they have new employees to take over. In an interview they said that the coasters we see now are only a teaser of what to come in the near future, so look out for them!
Their 'new' track seems to basically be an upscaled version of their roller skater track, which has always been quite smooth imo
Wait, DID YOU JUST CALL VEKOMA GOOD?
Yeah plus they're under sensei who also owns s & s so I'm guessing that's where they got their new track design
@@quirkygirlboss no they already had it before sensei bought them
4:32 Wow, Taylor; you really got lucky having both Thunderhead and Dragon Flier dropping at the same time! Great review; I must say I am rather staggered that you reportedly pull 4G on the back row; that's more than Nemesis at Alton Towers apparently pulls (3.5G)!
Vekoma, more like VE-COMEBACK!
...I'll show myself out.
Please do
Yes you will
This is a great coaster. Super smooth and faster than I expected.
Still some of the best cinematics in the game. Well done!
Oh, new slo-mo shots... 👍
Nice video! Great expansion for the family to an already amazing park👌
GRINDING FOR 1K FOR CUSTOMS your right funny person that I definitely don’t live 5 minutes away from.
Hey! Thanks for making all these awesome videos, I love your reviews and coaster parodies! I just wanted to thank you.
I really liked the one at Energylandia, it is my 3rd favorit coaster their until Zadra opens. And yes, it is more forcefull than I expected it to be.
Hey! I HAVE actually ridden the Danish version! And it is a very nice coaster.
I would actually say the Danish one is nicer because of the first drop being over water and into an underwater tunnel.
I really hope that some parks start hiring Vekoma to do full sized suspended coasters. I *LOVE* Arrow suspended rides. I would love to see some park build a 21st century Eagle Fortress
I got to ride this a couple weeks ago and it was more intense than I was expecting. We ended up on the last row and when it dropped off that fist hill my eyes closed and stayed closed until the end. I will definitely ride it again and try to keep my eyes open!
I Love The Vekoma S.F.C ( Suspended. Family. Coaster ) Because Of The Drop And The Overbank. That Is Showing That Vekoma Defenitly Improved And We NEED More In The U.S.
Great! Now let's get that indoor themed coaster (or B&M hyper if we must.)
Zac G
omg just be grateful that you got a new coaster oh my god calm down
Late reply.
I said "great!" The point is that Dollywood had already made it clear that they are putting in another coaster by the time Taylor's video was released. Being excited about that is only natural.
But you have blazing Fury! 😂
Boom! another great review
Was waiting for your review of this. Great and informative as always! Thanks!
Thanks for a great and honest and informative review! We will be going to Dollywood in July, and this gives us something new to look forward to, along with the other great coasters in the park. Can't wait to ride Lightning Rod again! :-)
I rode the one at Energylandia in July in the back. I did not expect anything so that first drop and turn around shocked me.
I rode this with my mom a few months ago. It was her favorite coaster in the park. As for me….. well, it definitely packs in more positive Gs than I was expecting for a family coaster! Still, it’s really fun to ride!
I have ridden booth the one in fårup sommerland and the one in energylandia. They are awesome family coasters! For me, it Will earn a 10/10 for a family coaster. My reason is that it is litteraly for everyone! Its as smooth as it can possibly get! It have some intense parts for the Thrill seekers, but still not too much for most kids! That is My opinion:)
Great video! I personally WOULD call that first turn an inversion...which I've never seen on a 'family' coaster before.I think this ride will make a fine addition to the Dollywood...which is one of my favorite parks. Great coasters/rides, clean park and really nice people! 👍🎢 😊
I would not. It is not over 135 degrees.
Rode this in the back row expecting a little family coaster. That first drop and overbank really surprised me!
Dragon in Energylandia is the same coaster. It is so popular that they decided to change layout and fit brakes outside of the station to allow it to run two trains. They haven't started construction yet, but second train is On site
Dragon Flier is surprisingly good! Great addition to the park! Can't wait to find out what the new rumored coaster will be.
Seems reasonable. I myself am going to ride Orkanen (the original) this summer and with this one you can see how it was custom designed for Fårup Sommerland to begin with. At Fårup it was designed to dive into an underwater tunnel and from there run along the edge of a small lake, weaving in and out of swampy, tall grass. On the last dip you get really close to the water which is probably why they made that dip to begin with, as it technically was designed as kind of a terrain coaster.
Oh god I completely forgot to reply to this comment. So yeah. Orkanen was good. The first bit from the first drop to the first helix was quite intense with its low to the ground action right on top of the waters surface. The second hand is milder but I'd still say its better than Dollywoods ride because of the landscaping. That tall swampy grass, pretty much untouched from natural growth, really adds a much better sensation of speed. Plus bits of theming like a fishermans hut definitely adds to it. That whole original ride is loosely themed to being in the eye of a storm so it definitely fits in.
Smart planning because the Country Fair is so crowded and this gives families with small kids a reason to walk up the hill other than to ride Whistle Punk Chaser. Many days the line to Firechaser Express is longer than the line at Lightning Rod so having this close by will shorten that line as well and balance out the park. I am hoping for a hyper to go behind Wildwood Grove that gives a breathtaking view of the mountains before you go flying down into the drop.
0:13 Kiddy hawk and flying ace are the hang n bangs
Dragon Flier is a modern Vekoma SFC, which are very intense and smoother family I mean thrill coasters
Went yesterday and was the first ride I rode yesterday, and besides having to sit there for about 5 mins, and those seats aren't comfortable for a long period...but that ride was so fun!
I rode it 2 times on a preview day. Once in row 7 then row 3. Great ride!
A friend and I rode this about a month after it opened and we’re surprised how Forcefull it was. For a family Coaster it was a great ride and u get dispatched from the time the train enters the station till it leaves is Maby a min to two. It’s a great ride
Back row. Left seat. Sundown. Just before being shutdown for rain. Definitely not the best ride in the park, but it blew my expectations out of the water!
So taylor, you are in of the pics for this ride on RCDB haha
If you visit Vekomas website, you'll see that they're completely revamping several of their ride offers. Not just their Flying Coasters, but they are also overhauling the entire system of their Motorbike Launch Coaster AND their Mine Train Coaster - can't wait what's up their sleeve in the next years!
Kentucky flyer vs dragonflyer fight. Both parks are close and both added family coasters this year
Vekoma is getting more love 😍
I chose to go on this ride because I was told that it was one of the better Vekoma Family Inverts out there, and it definitely was. However, I ended up waiting a full hour to go on it because of the long wait line, so from now on, I'd only do it early before the line gets too long, or I wouldn't do it at all.
I went Monday and rode it for the first time I loved it and was surprised it considered family coaster
Ive ridden Dragon at Energylandia and I loved it. This is a fantastic fit for the park
Spongebob Schwanzkopf Energylandia is such a fun park. Its a little weird, but still an awesome place. Not to mention Poland is such a cool country. I was extremely suprised by the country when i visited but i loved it
dragonflier is sooo great i love it!!!!
I rode it on May 11th. I agree with your assessment and would go as far as to say its the best FAMILY coaster I've ridden so far, but I'll be riding Kentucky Flyer in about 3 weeks so we'll see how it holds up. I'm one of those that was surprised by this ride. I was in the back row so the drop was really good and I actually grayed out a little on the first turn (now that I know how many G's it pulls I'm not surprised about graying out a bit) I'm anxious to see what they add next, my personal vote is for a B&M Hyper. On a side note: R.I.P. Slidewinder, I'm going to miss it.
I didn't realize sidewinder bit the dust. I have great memories as a kid on that. You live near by?
This is what I wish Bat at Lagoon was. This is a much better version to clone.
5:07 Its just a lapbar and a seatbelt, nothing OVERly complicated
Get it?
Cuz it doesnt have OVER the shoulder restraints?
SkullMountainFanboy wow...
I got Kärnan ad at this video. Nice
I was on the drop tower at Dollywood and I could see them working on dragon flyer.
First of all great video again! Btw Vekoma call's this suspended coaster and B&M name's it inverted coaster.
Vekoma has been evolving through the early 2000s us in North America only got a tiny look at what vekoma has been cooking up and it is something good and vekoma focused more on Asia and Europe because vekoma knows six flags and cedar point like to play it safe with intamin and B&M but vekoma is going to make a big comeback
For a few years now (since they opened Orkanen at Farup Sommerland), I've felt a ride of this caliber would be great for Kennywood.
I haven’t done this coaster but I have done dragon at energylandia and it is fantastic
Iv ridden the clone at Energylandia. And i agree with you. It was more intense than I thought it was going to be. Thought the helix's had some force
There's also S&S's version that's very similar, Merlin's Mayhem at Dutch Wonderland in Pennsylvania. I rode it last year a few weeks after it opened and it also gave a surprising fun ride.
That overbank looks fun. Also, imo, it's technically an inversion
This would be so good for holiday world!!!
Fantastic review Taylor
OnE tRaIn OpS!
This ride is so fun!
These rides are pretty good for the younger ones also one at frontier city and it is pretty good
What if that put that track style on their SLC will it be smoother then, then now ?
It logically should! Dragon Flier was very smooth
See the new Suspended Thrill Coaster model on Vekoma's website - they are planning to. Tayto Park in Ireland is getting one in 2021.
I can’t believe that this FAMILY coaster is faster the collossus (the ten invention coaster at my home park-Thorpe park) lol ;-;
As far as the two new family coasters, which do you prefer? Dragon Flier or Kentucky Flyer?
Also, weird they used different spellings of the same word.
I have ridden both as Kentucky Flyer is at my home park. With that said Dragonflyer is more forceful but Kentucky Flyer has the air time bits.
Does anyone know why there are nets on the train? I presume it's something to do with loose articles.
Vampire at chessington pulls 5.
I was shocked when I looked it up on RCDB
I've been on the one in Denmark, and it's great
As I have ridden Dragon in Energylandia I can agree 100% with your opinion on the coaster itself. I had my first ride somewhere in the back of the train and I really wasn't prepared for some of the G's it pulled. That being said Dragon Flier IMO doesn't look that nice. Those giant concrete footers and the ground in general are somehow giving me a construction site vibe.
Should have landscaped them
There is the same ride but indoor version at VinWonders Phu Quoc (Phu Quoc island-VietNam)
I have a chance to try it and it was amazing 😂
It feel more thrilling than a family coaster but it so thou
Energylandia's clone of this layout will apparently be getting a new station and brake run to allow it to run with two trains, so it's kinda weird they didn't bother with redesigning the layout here
I'm looking forward to it but I never thought this was a good fit at the park
I think tht looks fantastic...
yep that is an inversion, it def counts.
What is the height requirement?
What is your opinion on the retirement of mountain slidewinder?
Is the flyer Showdown:
Draganflyer vs. Kentucky flyer vs. Finnegan's flyer
Who will win?
@@DoswarePictures ...Ok, I guess I'll take this one. Finnegan's flyer is the new swing ride at BGW (the other two are coasters)....which I presume is going to be the same as the swing ride at Dollywood. I'll find out when I go there in the near future. ...I appreciate that two of my favorite parks (BGW & Dollywood) were both mentioned in the same post. 👍 🎢
Does this get your stomach to drop? I’m trying to get my brother on some coasters but that feeling makes him uncomfortable and sometimes sick
Still not sharing your opinion on the clearing at KI?
I think that you can call something an inversion when it banks more then 135°
i like that coster
Luna park in Coney Island just made an identical coaster
When are you going to ride Yukon StrikR
end of this month
Don’t mind it being a clone so much, especially since it’s the only one in North America (for now) and looks to be a quality ride. I do however wish they were able to alter the layout slightly to allow a brake run to get a second train in operation for the park. One train operations are going to kill its capacity and make lines longer
Kings Island has both Flying Ace Ariel Chase as well as Banshee, and Carowinds has both Kiddy Hawk and Afterburn, so there is still some truth to the B&M invert coming to Dollywood in the future. Maybe 2026-2027ish
Vekoma, you having a laugh...
It reminds me a little bit of, perhaps, RAPTOR, at CEDAR POINT In OHIO, although that coaster is much more intense. I get that this is more of a family coaster, instead of, a thrill coaster. Still, with this coaster having only 1 train, I wouldn't wait in a very long line to ride it! Just one man's opinion. I'm just saying! 😉
This venoms looks great and I’d much rather ride this than any slc they make
Im still waiting for the POV.
There are pov's from it's clones tho. Look up Orkanan at Fårup sommerland, it's the original one from which pov's can be found.
There is a pov now, search: 2019 Dragonflier Roller Coaster On Ride HD POV Wildwood Grove Dollywood
Do you think this could be a good ride to introduce someone to roller coasters? I have a friend I'd like to help try out a not so intense ride.
I think its a great one to start out on! This one and Firechaser Express!
That over bank looks like an inversion to me
Meow La Cat it IS an inversion! Rcdb classifies it as an inversion
This Roller coaster is So Fun I love it
Better Than Blue Hawk
Like freedom flyer at fun spot. It’s fun...spot
Quick question: how busy do you think Dollywood will be in the early weeks on June?
SyupendousStufful101 avoid weekends if possible, and it shouldn’t be too terrible. You should have enough time to do everything in a day
Awesome, thanks for the feedback
Wow Maybe i should Go to DollyWood, i live in CA
Can you snap on the flyer ride
? What? Snap?
Please explain what you mean
Although Flying Scooters are generally considered a mild ride, a skilled rider can "snap" the cables suspending the vehicle, and thus gain a more extreme and out-of-control experience. Snapping is caused by the cables slacking due to quick motions of the vehicle. Snapping is made easier on older and faster Flying Scooters rides
Ok. I was extremely confused. Thanks
The layout looks similar to Iron Dragon at Cedar Point.
my dad works at Vekoma and if you'll say that's fake, well i have a Vekoma shirt and they don't sell any merch i have a official Vekoma book with coaster models in it and i had a to test some trains at Vekoma for a park (i can't tell because that is inside info) but hope to visit this soon but that is highly unlikely but still nice vid a a good coaster
I design roller coasters... but I don't work for anyone. I build model ones though out of popsicle sticks. Question: Does your dad have to go to a foreign country to work for Vekoma?
@@WicketEngineering yes a lot of times that is for me the only downside but he may enjoy it
@@kevin522 wow!
where can I get the book?
A more creative name for the Japanese Coaster tour:
The Anime and Coasters tour
Yes!
Hey Taylor, what do you think about that potentially fake layout that was leaked for Kings Island's giga?
im like probably overly hopeful that this is indicative of the idea that Silver Dollar City will think about getting a new-age Vekoma Suspended Thrill Coaster as a progression of dragonflier
Yeah, I think the 1 train is an unfortunate thing for this ride. Especially cause the last.. wavy dippy... curvy thing.. could've easily been a brake run and made the line move much faster than it does.
What about the Raptor
