I don’t see it as it being ruined, I see it as necessary progress, but i realize how the perception is different for you, since you have been there when it wasn’t what it is today. I just visited for the first time last month, and I was in awe by this natural marvel.
I had the same experience. First time I went there was no one. The hike was pretty tough as it was mostly sand. Fast forward to 2022 the trail was rerouted to make it easy and with that easy path came everyone. It's still an amazing view but I saw so many people willing to put their life on the line just to get a picture for social media.

It's true, nothing is sacred anymore. Unfortunately it's just a fact of life now. It used to be a joke that people that if they could, people would sell you sand, or water, or even air. Now people sell all 3. If someone can find a way, they'll make a business out of literally anything. Good thing there's usually ways around. In this case if you have an ATV/UTV or offroad vehicle, and you don't mind hiking, you can always enter from another point. At least until enough people start doing it, and the proprietors take notice and put up fences/walls, and slap a "no trespassing" sign up, and even set up an offroad and camping area, where you pay to get in. If they haven't done it already.
I had always seen pictures of Horseshoe Bend so this year when we went to the North Rim for the 4th of July, 2024, we made a detour on the way back to take it in. First was surprised by the amount of people, mostly who were obviously not hiker people most did not even carry water, it was a very hot day. Everyone with selfie sticks and climbing over everything, hard to get to a space not having the view blocked. And then I realized the iconic picture where you see the entire river bend in the river, you can only see using a drone or in a plane, you can't get that vantage point on the ground. Bummer all around.
That is surprising indeed that people weren't prepared with water especially during the summer. As far as the iconic photo, unless I am thinking of the wrong one, I believe you can achieve it on the ground by going up to the edge and using either a wide angle lens or doing a panorama to get the entire bend. You do have to be at the right spot and far enough up that you don't get the rocks on the sides. But if you're talking about a top down or aerial shot than ignore me 😂

lol wait. You feel instagram ruined horseshoe bend, but you flew a drone over it to post to your ig and yt? C'mon, now. It's not ruined just because more people are able to access it and are aware of its existence. It's still one of the most beautiful places on earth, people or none.
Lol the drone shot is a stock footage site. Drones are banned there. Don't get me wrong it's still a beautiful spot but having seen it before all the infrastructure was built and now it's different for sure.
@@hoangpham I'm relieved to know that! I brought my disabled friend here and was glad it was an easier trail so she could check it off her bucket list. Co vid really made people get out and about more, too.
also please note: the speed limit on US highway 89 is 65mph. visitors just pull out in front of you without caution, which explains all the tire marks on the highway.
People just can't have nice things I guess. I was lucky enough to visit Horseshoe Bend while it was still just a dirt road :D

We were there yesterday and while it is stunning,the behavior of the hordes of “people”there is ridiculous.
