The first time we had ever gone out West was about 15 yrs ago to Las Vegas. We went to Red Rock Canyon. We were awe struck. America is truly beautiful.
As others have said, the experience used to be VERY different. In 2018 there was no sign by the highway, no entrance station, and no fee. There was no pavement, just a gravel road from the highway to a dirt/gravel parking lot. The only amenities were a few trash cans and five vault toilets. Sometimes the lot was packed full and people parked on the edge of the highway (dangerous). From the parking lot the trail went straight up and over the hill rather than around it and in places was sandy or rough---impossible for wheelchairs, walkers, or crutches. The return hike over the hill was not fun. What you show is a vast improvement, long overdue and worth every penny of the $10 fee. July is too hot: March or April is much better. But what a view! Stay safe!
9:44 Hey, it's Dusty Nuggett's second-cousin, Krusty. Were those two women getting nervous that some stranger with a camera was following them on the trail, Russ? Just kidding! Pretty remarkable to think that just the right section of the rock was hard enough to prevent the river from simply blasting its way straight through, the Colorado being forced instead into the horseshoe configuration. Thanks for putting up with the heat, Russ, in bringing this natural gem to us armchair viewers, it is much appreciated.
Hey Russ thanks so very much for taking us with you on this amazing adventure this horse shoe Bend is incredible I seen it when I was a little girl. ❤❤❤
Russ! Our bucket list is going to be 10 pages long by the time this virtual vacation is over, lol! Another great place to visit. Thanks for sharing! Safe travels! Joanne
Can't help it, I really enjoy your videos so much, like if I were there! 😍😍😍!!! Such beautiful places I hope to visit sometime in the future. BTW, you really walk fast, I've noticed that in your videos as well. That's good, it means you're in great shape. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us. Talk soon! 👍👍👍
Thanks Russ another great one can't wait to get out there again someday I can feel the heat especially when it's 90 something degrees here in NE PA stay safe
Hi--I really enjoy your virtual trips. My husband I used to travel in a class A motorhome--I was always holding the video camera to my eye-- Some of your visits bring memories--others like Horse Shoe bend are new to me. Thanks so much for sharing. Brings many good memories. Plus, I do not handle heat well- so thank you for "taking the heat" for me! Ha!!
AWESOME...!!! Thanks for taking us. Kinda feel like I should go walk around outside in the TX heat while watching on my phone just in sympathy! Too bad about shotgun cam, my wife is worried about you using the handheld, she always tells me..."keep your eyes on the road and your hands upon the wheel" Great song also. Take care, be safe. Went back in February and they were just putting the finishing touches on the new trail. Nice to see it all done. Looking forward to go back in about a month or so.
Thank you for walking out there in the heat and for sharing it with us. Have you had opportunity to get a photo of two of the comet in the night or early morning sky?
Thanks again for taking to see this. Awesome. My pop has one of those 4 wheel scooters that comes apart into 4 pieces and maybe the battery to. Its meant to be taken apart and placed in the back of the car. Does not take up but about 1/3 or less of trunk. It can go 9 to 10 miles on a charge. Till I saw that lady on your path I never gave those things a second thought. WELL I thought about it now and when I go on about seeing the country again soon I'll be thinking about taking the scooter along for the ride. Sure would make a excursion like today a lot more comfortable and maybe feel cooler with feeling the breeze. Used these things are almost being given away. Anyway, the shotgun cam had it's place. I really like where your driving cam sits behind the wheel, but when you popped up the shotgun cam it made me feel that I was sitting inside like I wanted with dash and cameras in my view. My thinking was shotgun cam was not meant to replace driving cam but rather to expand the experience by letting us be behind the scenes a bit more. Maybe put a water bottle in the view along with dash and camera would help build the set or scene a bit. All that and a bag of chips and I would feel I am right there if only for 15 seconds.... grin Your doing just fine Russ no matter what you are doing. So have fun, I think I will miss hearing you say "shotgun" ;)
I was there on 7/18/2020 with my family. and Also Glen Canyon Dam overlook and visitor center. And swam in the Lake Powell. We dove from high rock to the lake - can you imagine how deep the water is? I really enjoyed your videos.
My husband and I went to Horseshoe Bend last July. It was extremely HOT! We also went to Gooseneck Park in Utah. We liked it better. You only have to pay $5 & you can drive right up to the Bend. Pictures were just as good. You can even camp out there. It looks like they have added a new covered shelter that is much needed. Enjoy your videos!
Wow, wow, wow an AWESOME site. Thank you for sharing. So far I am loving this virtual vacation. Each stop has been better than the next. Thank you Russ. Stay safe. Wishing you a super week. Hugs Susan
Love Horseshoe Bend! Saw it once from above about five years ago which made me want to paddle the river below. I've done that three times now and can't wait to do it again! ❤️
Hello Russ ,really great video .It was quite hot for you to walk down there to get the nice shot . Thank you for going the extra way . Take Care , SEE Ya . 👍👍😊😊✌👏
Good Evening Russ, Sure was cool to see Horseshoe Bend. I think it's high time you skiddattle down the road and get out of the heat! I do thank you for taking your time to show us these places. But now get us and you "outta" this hot weather and up to cooler country! See You Soon!
Russ I have been going to Lake Powell since I was four years old so basically 50 years If you want the adventure of a lifetime that’s the lake to go on!
Spectacular view! I appreciate you showing this to us. Yes, it's hot! It makes the walk seem longer. I'd definitely take my umbrella for shade, and a battery-operated fan too 😊😉! Loving the Virtual Vacation series Russ 🌅
Russ my wife and I really enjoy your videos . You are very professional in putting together your videos and the country you are visiting is so beautiful . You are making us remember our trips that way . Stay safe and stay well . Thank you and we will be watching in future .
thanks Russ ! I really enjoyed seeing this place. I made a mental note to add this vista to my bucket list....but only in Fall or Spring..not in July !!!
Oh good Russ now I can sit back and not have that side camera sticking in the back of my neck , just kidding Lol!😀 Thanks for showing Horseshoe Bend Outlook that was totally worth it.
Russ I have been riding shotgun with you since January and I haven't gotten car sick yet. When I traveled I would usually drive because if I didn't I slept and didn't get to see anything. I have enjoyed all the places you have let me tag along. That horseshoe bend was awesome. And no I would not rent my RV out either. Happy Trails/ Be Safe
Great stop Russ. Horseshoe is beautiful. There is a similar area on the Green River at the Echo Park area in Dinosaur National Park. But you need to have 4wheel drive to get there.
Wow, Russ! What an amazing view! Heck, I'd pay 10 bucks just for the view on the walk down. I'm curious, when you are parked and out exploring on a hot day, do you have the Fantastic fans running and exhausting the heat out of the van?
Russ, I just took a picture of the Horseshoe Bend with my phone, and sent it to a friend, and she said it was beautiful. Thanks for the fun ride as always!
We did horseshoe bend in 2017, you got lucky waiting! It didn’t have those paths it was a brutal up and down climb on sinking sand it almost killed me haha. There was no viewing area with fencing, I’m guessing they now charge because of the construction. Still as beautiful as ever.
I was there 2016, at that time there was no paved entrance or parking and no entrance fee and no observation deck area! The trail to the view was a lot more primative also.
Good Evening Russ I have a quick question now that you have been on the road about a week do you like your new 20 qt. freezer. Thank you for your time Gene & Marla P.
Thank you so much for the wonderful videos you produce. I'm so excited. I'm starting out this spring and your videos on the Grand Canyon and the Colorado River and where I've been planning to start...
I've always wanted to go there too (I've been close, but took 89A to the Navajo Bridge and on to Zion instead). I'm going to check it off my bucket list in any case, since I feel like I've been there - huffing and puffing along with you in the 100 degree heat. hehe. Too bad you couldn't do a drone flight there. :)
Great, you have no idea the time I have searched for the info you give in this video, my trip last March was stopped by the quarantine, but next March I will be there, thank you very much for your videos, greetings from Patagonia Argentina
Thank you so much for this content, I’m going in April and wanted to know how the drive and the trail at horseshoe bend. So lucky to have found your channel.
Nice video Russ ! and, I was able to sit in my home with the A/C on Thanks for that ! although outside today was 114 degrees.. Yuck ! Stay Safe and Healthy.. Peace Out !
Made a trip to page Arizona a couple of years ago we saw horseshoe falls and my husband went to upper antelope canyon a slot canyon there in page you would love that it was beautiful , if the canyon is open now . Loved Glen canyon dam also

To me views like that are more impressive than the Grand Canyon. It would be fabulous to go around that bend in a boat or canoe.
A few years back, that was free but you had to climb that sandy slope right in the beginning and your shoes would get filled with sand. I think the improvements are worth the $10. Best to go sunrise or sunset when it's cooler and wear a hat! Happy travels!

Beautiful blue sky with nicely patterned cloud formations create an awesome backdrop to the magnificent colors of Horseshoe Bend Canyon. Thnx Russ. 👏
Russ a big thank you for taking us along with you on your adventures I wish I could ride shotgun with you for a while. Stay forever free.

My kids kayaked horseshoe bend in June with their dad. They enjoyed it
Russ, can you use the senior national park pass to get in?
