Bill Lent looks like he was a great cemetery guide, RIP.
I've seen him in other Sleepy Hollow videos discussing the lore.
Jonathan Kruk is also a great storyteller.
I'm glad there are videos of these guys online. They add a lot of background to the story.
Many of us will never visit Sleepy Hollow but at least we can get scared or intrigued by the classic story.
I just want everyone to know, there is a channel called Townsends who focus on life in the 18th century, and they made a mini series of reading Sleepy Hollow by candlelight last Halloween 🎃. I recommend their channel greatly.
Hopefully they have something equally awesome planned for this Halloween.
I know, I'm subscribed to the his channel over a year ago. He did a reading on the sleepy hollow legend some time ago.😎
Thank you
I love The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, even the animated version.Tony
I've been visiting Sleepy Hollow every year since I was 6; I have been intrigued by that place ever since picking up a children's version of the story at a local library. If anyone hasn't been there yet, I suggest going.
Interesting. I love this story since it’s rooted in our history.
I visited Sleepy Hollow, enjoyed a historical walk through the dutch burying ground and the plantation across the street followed by lunch in a nearby pub. If you think its boring than you are lacking in cultural curiosity. you are probably going to be disappointed not to find the headless horseman, like all the hordes that descend on Salem MA looking for witches.
Wow, this place actually exists?! Another place to visit added to my bucket list!
Reilly Kuhn i live here 👍
Well, yes and no. The place that Washington Irving wrote was fictitious. The village of Sleepy Hollow that exists today was originally called North Tarrytown. It was changed to its current name of Sleepy Hollow in 1996.
@@ss04to06 yup
About 30min ride to Tarrytown from NYC Grand Central Station 😃
@@ss04to06 its a perfect little sleepy hollow🎃
The real Ichabod Crane was a United States Marine Corps lieutenant who transferred to the United States Army and rose to the rank of Colonel before he retired. He is buried in Asbury Methodist Cemetery in Staten Island, New York.
I was able to visit here while I was a traveling nurse during the pandemic and it was open but almost no one was there and it was the most amazing place. I visited during the first week of October and also went into Tarrytown. The parade was canceled and so were the weekend nightly lantern tours.
The storyteller should tell this tale in the dark, around a spooky campfire, surrounded by glowing pumpkins with ghoulish carved faces.
I tell it in the story's setting, the 1685 Old Dutch Chruch in Sleepy Hollow weekends in October. www.hudsonvalley.org/events/irvings-legend
Omg yess🔮🎃🏰✨
He dose
Went to his show this weekend was awesome.. hes a great storyteller
That’s John Kruk. He puts on an amazing show.
headless has been scaring people and children for many many years
Want to know the truth about sleepy hollow? It's a charming town that used to be called North Tarrytown until the name was changed to Sleepy Hollow about 10 years ago. The town shares a lot of local government programs with the neighboring town south of it known as Tarrytown such as the same school system. The high school is called "Sleepy Hollow High School" and the team name is "The Horsemen" the student body consists of 60% Dominican & Ecuadorian, 30% White, and 10% black. It's a great place.
IT'S SO WONDERFUL THIS LITTLE TOWN IS STILL CELEBRATING THE "HEADLESS HORSEMAN"
My first childhood tale,we are gonna come here for now on,I'm fifty two, been here once, many moons ago, thanks for the upload, perfect
yeeeaaaahhh.
It was cool that Washington Irving got the names of his characters from real people.
Yes it cool and a good subject to study
One of the greatest stories of all time by one of the greatest authors
Re. @1:12 -- I'd read that Irving knew the Van Tassel family a few years prior to his authorship of the story. He asked permission to use Katrina's name because he liked to name his characters after people he knew. I didn't think he'd simply seen the name on a headstone.
@onemooreperson: Dutch settlers would have your head--pardon the pun--for that. The reason they even told the legend was because they believed in evil spirits and things. In Tarry Town, it was perceived that a true witch or two did exist way back when the story was conceived, and it was these old wife's tales that inspired Irving to write the story. And since the characters were based off of real people, who's is to say that the legend DIDN'T happen?
siiiimmm.
This was the best video I found so far on the history of this story. I just wish it had been longer.
I was born in Sleepy Hollow and lived there for a year when I was a baby. I went in NY and stayed in Tarrytown back in March. I met my ex-neighbor (that was awkward, but she loved me)
Question: What if the headless horseman is not actual one man but two. Because people back then wear cape and large coat. So it's easy to conceal two people. So what if one person is steering while the other is holding the pumpkin head?
My great grandmother was born in the 1800's and was crossing the bridge as a young girl and she heard the sounds of the horse galloping across the bridge. she told the story to my mother.
I'm a huge fan of the headless horseman big time fan . my friend Jonathan Kruk keeps me up dates on the headless horseman sightings. also I'm in love with a descent of Katrina van tassel
No she didn’t
john renzi cool when was the last sighting that u heard about????
D T this was a year ago but it’s not good to assume🙃
@@dontcare7477 Yes she did.
Tarrytown is where "Sleepy Hollow" is and was recently officially named.
i live near sleepy hollow!

Yankee😂😂
I’ll bet that’s cool .
I love sleepy hollow (the place). Its name fits it.
I live here... all of you people saying that it is a beautiful town are mistaken. Its very run down with the exception of a few very rich neighboorhoods. There are gangs and lots of drugs and there isnt really very much to do at all, no nightlife whatsoever, nothing appealing to young people. Other than October, it really is dead as fuck here. I cant wait to leave.
I live there!!!😀
This is the ultimate American ghost story hands down. Most European ghosts involve banshees, and more folklore esk monsters. For the U.S. this reached peak for ghost stories of a headless hessian soldier still wandering the earth looking for his lost head after it was blown off by canon fire.
I'm sure someone will sometime in the future, wheither it's for film or TV,
classic stories like this always have a life of their own and are always good for retelling over the years.
Prediction spookily accurate... Love the TV series sleepy hollow
@@paulafletchaa2613 I loved that show it's a crying shame that's not on any more😢
@@collinjames9201 I know I haven't watched the last 2 episodes of the last season haha because once I have it's done
@@paulafletchaa2613 Ya! I get that.
@takarashi2: He did, for "horseMEN" surmises that's there is more than ONE, but in the story, there is only ONE "horseMAN".
i want to go badly ever since i was little i love the legend of the headless horseman
You definitely should! Especially during the fall!
I live in Sleepy Hollow it's nice
Happy Hedgehog who knows u could find the real headless horseman ghost
Beware, the unmistakable sound of 2 stroke engine, he still ride, but not so frequently now.
omg thats so weird i just finished reading this book and our librarian had a lesson on this book too. yesterday.
what a beautiful area! looks so peaceful and calm! I would love to live there!
Would live to visit anyway..not sure about living there tho'...
Ran across another youtube video last night called "A Trip to Sleepy Hollow (2009)" that had a little more of the area shown (after you get passed the first 2 minute introduction). Looked like a really pretty little town. =)
WOAH !! I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS,SERIOUSLY !i thought that headless horseman thing just came from Tim Burton's mind .. and Ichabod Crane was not really true ... i just can't believe this !! wattttttaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa !!
The legend of sleepy hallow was a book which then became Tim burtons movie. Also Tim Burton changed a lot of things
Wow showing your age there mate. Burtons version is very modern.
@@spotsthenpc7796 you are also showing your age too. It was made into films way before burtons version.
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow in real life
Ok, for those who say that "Ghosts aren't real." And "That's just stupid." Then let me ask you this, every legend, myth and ghost story has truth behind it. Things like this are supposed to be serious but sometimes can be taken lightly, if you believe in the lord above, and that his ghost is living upon us then the same thing should go for the one who can't move on. I keep seeing comments on how stupid this is, but this legend has been around longer than the people who say this have so you don't know the whole thing so you can't complain.
Umbreon05 I hear you brother I witnessed the ghost and the ghostly shrieks of la llorona 😭 of Mexico
Yeah ghosts r 150% real and I’ve heard stories of a real headless horseman
This is where my mother got my name... from the disney version.
... You're mother named you Ichabod?! How cool is that?! =)
Katrina is a cute name. I was pregnant with my daughter during Hurricane Katrina, was considering naming her Katrina . But my husband thought it was crazy to name her after a hurricane. So we named her Paige , ( after one of the Charmed Ones ... a witch )
@TheLouisaGirl
Beautiful landscape! Why do we hear so much of Salem, Mass. and not Sleepy Hollow? Must people die to boost fame? :(
Great vid...in west Canada, cities didn't even really exist 100 yrs. ago...-but I 'summered' at Newport R.I. once......I learned something: you need to be seriously
Bored to poke around New England backwoods.
Adding this to "places to investigate before I die!"
Martina Baker- its almost 10 years later since you made this comment but,. Did you ever go to Sleepy Hollow?.😁🎃🎃❤
@@Sammy-mp9xn Lol I'm also wondering
I just took a test on this story.
"If you listen, youll hear the unmistakable clattering of Hoooves" Lmao
This is fun to watch about the Legend of the Headles Horsemannn! My late grandmother (rest her soul) told me this qoute in Spanish, which I type/translate in english "In every legend some truth is behind it!" She also told tales of scary spooky legend stories in Puerto Rico that can be true?! Depending if you believe in the supernatural like I do,heh heh heh! Feel sympathy for Ichabod Crane who lost his life from the Horseman as the story is originally told.
actually ichabod crane just moved out of town because he was worried that the horseman will come back for him and he was turn down by Katrina. also the horseman was brom bones in costume that chased his rival out of town
What a tourist destination, huh?
Not even the Legend of Sleepy Hollow can beat the horror of swimming in the Hudson River.
Is it dirty?
Here in 2020 :p
As of fall 2023 the towns people had all incoming roads shut down. So you cannot even get to Sleepy Hollow now.
@caddad69 it's nothing special I went there. There's no hauntings or weird goth kids that go there. The school is 60% illegal Hispanics. 10% blacks and 30% preppy white kids. But it is a nice town to grow up in :)
In Texas, there is a headless horseman called El Muerto (The Dead Man)
lmao! I memmer. I heard it was called "El hombre sin cabeza" which means the same in English. The (headless horsemen) What part of Texas? I am from El valley. born McAllen Tx. and raised in Edinburg, Pharr, San Juan, Mission, Brownsville.

Ever wonder what other spirits and entities dwell in Sleepy Hollow?

So... what?
Yea and it's great. October is a blast in that town.
i actually live in sleepy hollow, its pretty cool that this was on tv
that cane of the storyteller is pretty cool..
aaah, yeh, the Hudson River Valley
@dechicken what if washington irving wrote it as a headless horseman, not horsemen?
Implying that there might be two of them running around scaring people, omg 😱
Scary thought
I want Kruk to narrate my Tinder dates.
I will!
Jonathan Kruk, Master Storyteller lol
hope they will make another sleepy hollow film live action version
JONATHAN KRUK CAN TELL THE PANTS OFF ANY STORY
i love this movie..i love to see heads being cut
Ya! But in the story the horseman do's not cut off other people's heads! Hes looking for his own.

I have read a book about The Legend of sleepy hollow (:
Lots of headless horsemen vibes
that's so funny did you see the train go past when they were talking about where the writer lives
I wonder does the headless horseman supposedly really exist I mean the real ghost not the actor
Travis Stoudt Perhaps, but you never know with this sort of thing, right?
+Reilly Kuhn from what I heard it appears that there really is a real headless horseman ghost
Travis Stoudt Really? That sounds awesome!
Travis Stoudt the headless horseman is based of Celtic creatures called Dullahan, it’s most of the time a woman with her head in her hand and a scythe. They hunt down people, they are a sign of death and are a symbol of death. A grim reaper in a sense
yes he does exist he wears a green hessian uniform with a gold collar and the horse is a dark brown with flaming eyes
lol thats where i went to high school
sweet
i want to go there so bad
and c if the headless horseman is real
But did it actually happen?
Yes a soldier really was decapitated and his headless ghost is said to really haunt Sleepy Hollow
No
