I had my first Endoscopy yesterday. I too was very anxious about it but it actually ended up being a pleasant experience. The prep nurses and the doctor were extremely professional and friendly, so friendly that I ended up exchanging phone numbers with them. The procedure took only 15 minutes but the prep time plus the recovery time adds to the total time. They gave me conscious sedation and rolled me on the side, put a plastic contraption in my mouth with a hole for inserting the scope. After that, I just remember waking up in the recovery room. It seems worse than it really is. No need to be afraid.
This helps me! I cancelled one bc of my anxiety about it but I know I just need to bite the bullet and get it done. I will remember this and the comments to help me calm down. Thanks for doing this video!

I can’t believe they didn’t even tell you whether or not they’re doing biopsies! Way to make someone sweat it out.
I had an endoscopy two days ago, it was so simple and I had no pain at all. They found that I had (even with no food for 24 hours) Gastroparesis (lazy stomach) which was distressing to me because I have to repeat the procedure a week later after clear liquid diet for 72 hours to be able to actually see what else is wrong with me. And at $250 copay a procedure, it is getting rather expensive besides being irritating to me.

It’s interesting seeing someone else’s experience Btw now that I watch this I realize I need some icecream just like u said cuz my throat is dry as hell and water ain’t doing nothing .-. I had one yesterday I wasn’t scared but then I got scared cuz everyone asked me if I was scared so I started thinking I should be scared and I choose the needle over the gas mask cause I can’t handle bad smells so I wasn’t risking it I’m a kid so I got the full anesthesia and After 10 seconds I fell asleep, woke up with a tube up my nose and it’s the next day I still have it It’s very uncomfortable and the anesthesia isn’t going away and it’s very painful especially my jaw and nose but my throat is just uncomfortable and it’s near impossible to eat I’m taking it off in a couple hours I mean at first my problem was just chest pain and heart palpitations so they thought I inherited a heart problem from my mom then they found out it was a stomach issue after acid reflux and that stuff the endoscopy itself idk what the issue is or if there even is one or anything They told me to eat normally and eat whateverrrrr I want even if it’s bad (especially spicy food mostly noodles) but it’s hard to eat with a tube in my throat 💀 And when I woke up I barely saw a thing Btw with the pH tube they attached after the procedure they put a machine thing? Like I press buttons everytime i do or feel smth like pain or cough or eat or sleep n stuff I was not told this before btw I only thought they’re gonna do the camera thing They told me when I arrived btw i have been postponing this for months and I’ve had symptoms since maybe 2020 but the heart pain was since like maybe 2016-2017? The nurses and doctors were all amazing just saying I can see the attempt of trying to calm me down so it was nice

Hi! I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing the same. It's no fun and I wish nobody had to go through it. I've managed to keep symptoms at bay by going on a bland diet for a few weeks and slowly introduced foods/seasonings other than salt and pepper. The gut is a process to heal and it can be discouraging but keep some pedialyte handy and it will be better for you. Find a good probiotic that agrees with you. @@ThriftyBird I just had mine yesterday and got basically that same answer. Still waiting on biopsy results of course, but what we thought it would be (stricture or something blocking esophagus) was not there. Now I have to do a barium swallow. Have you had to do one of those?
No, that was pretty much the end of it for me. At one point they wanted to try a colonoscopy but I refused. I didn't feel it was necessary and given my decrease in certain symptoms, I might have been right. I hope your biopsy comes out clean. 🤞🏼

Then asked me questions and started an IV and also kept a bp monitor on. In the actual room where they wheeled me for endoscopy. Their were like 5 people in there including the Doctor. Anyways i was given the sedation in IV to sleep and was out quick. Woke up in recovery. They were very busy today a variety of patients and doctors.

Wow you guys so lucky in USA as we in UK only get an endoscopy awake!! It's awful, you either choose a numbing throat spray only or a light sedative but you can't get both & both times Iv had it has been really upsetting & traumatic, I had my last one on Monday 15 August 22 just 3 days ago and after the sedative when I'm lying on the theatre bed & flat pillow with the mouth guard all in I dozed slightly in that type of sleep where your aware of noises & where you are then I woke right up as the tube was going down my throat because your throat isn't numb & your gag reflex kicks in so all through the full thing you are severely wretching like you do when sick but obviously nothing coming up and it's just the body's reaction to a foreign object being put down throat & into stomach!that doesn't happen when under anesthesia, It's so horrible & your trying to not do the wretches but it's an automatic response your body does when it's awake & each wretch hurts as the hard scope hurts the throat, then they pump air through the scope so it inflates your stomach to see it all & the air from that comes up so you have huge burps between the wretches! Who on earth could ever relax or sleep through all that with just a light sedative? Not me that's for sure 😢 When they take the scope out the wrenching instantly stops & I got wheeled to recovery, I actually had a silent cry because it's so traumatic & i also feel angry because not allowing the numbing throat spray or not having a short general anesthesia is just cruel I feel, it's fine if you don't want anesthesia & choose it but I think most people would want it because of how it feels when awake, they also send a nurse to tell us what the results are about 30 mins later and they will be sent to the GP as we are fully awake afterwards, it takes about 2 to 3 hours on average and I certainly feel it's done this way as it's our NHS so it's the most cost effective and the way to do more endoscopies per day and we patients don't get any choice bar sedative only(which is useless I felt the both times) or throat numbing spray only! No thought for the distress it causes at all, I certainly won't get another one now after my two bad experiences 20 years apart & the proceedure is still not any different, very upsetting & not reasonable to expect patients to do that when other options are simple to do like it's done in USA from what I see, I'm glad you had a better experience and isn't anesthetic fantastic to protect us from really unpleasant procedures like this 👍🏼 Just thought I'd share my UK(Scotland) endoscopy experience.
I had my endoscopy with numbing spray nearly 2 weeks ago and totally agree with you. I felt like I was being suffocated and tried a few times to grab the scope, automatic reaction. The nurses were wonderful but praying I don't need another one. Waiting for the biopsy results.
Fuck I’ve been sedated a million times. With Trazodone and Xanax and klonopin and ambien and other anti psychotic medications lol 😂 so I am kind of looking forward ro sedation a little lol
Thank you but Endoscopy is the worst experience they make you swallow a tube with camera in it and while that tube is inside you, you'll have throw up feeling and it'll continue until they remove it unless you do it with sedation.
Why can't we get some guys to share there experiences? Every single video on youtube regarding colonoscopies or bowel surgery is always produced by females for females ughh!!

What were the result love? I’m getting mine in 2 weeks. Nervous 😩 but thank you for taking the time explaining and posting this. I appreciate it.
Did you ever find out what it was im currently going through the same thing
It’s interesting seeing someone else’s experience
Btw now that I watch this I realize I need some icecream just like u said cuz my throat is dry as hell and water ain’t doing nothing .-.
I had one yesterday I wasn’t scared but then I got scared cuz everyone asked me if I was scared so I started thinking I should be scared and
I choose the needle over the gas mask cause I can’t handle bad smells so I wasn’t risking it I’m a kid so I got the full anesthesia and
After 10 seconds I fell asleep, woke up with a tube up my nose and it’s the next day I still have it
It’s very uncomfortable and the anesthesia isn’t going away and it’s very painful especially my jaw and nose but my throat is just uncomfortable and it’s near impossible to eat I’m taking it off in a couple hours
I mean at first my problem was just chest pain and heart palpitations so they thought I inherited a heart problem from my mom then they found out it was a stomach issue after acid reflux and that stuff
the endoscopy itself
idk what the issue is or if there even is one or anything
They told me to eat normally and eat whateverrrrr I want even if it’s bad (especially spicy food mostly noodles) but it’s hard to eat with a tube in my throat 💀
And when I woke up I barely saw a thing
Btw with the pH tube they attached after the procedure they put a machine thing? Like I press buttons everytime i do or feel smth like pain or cough or eat or sleep n stuff
I was not told this before btw I only thought they’re gonna do the camera thing
They told me when I arrived btw i have been postponing this for months and I’ve had symptoms since maybe 2020 but the heart pain was since like maybe 2016-2017?
The nurses and doctors were all amazing just saying I can see the attempt of trying to calm me down so it was nice
How was the result of your endoscopy?
what kind of sedation did they use on you? thanks for sharing!
I'm not sure. I'd have to check my records when I receive them. If they told me, I was far too nervous to pay attention.
How much time you fall asleep?
For endoscopy?
Thank you. I am so scared. I have cancelled two times.
I did the same. How was it if you went through with it?
What were your results?
I'm having it tomorrow and really worried. I've already cancelled once before due to nerves. Can't have anesthetic just a throat spray as I'll be by myself.
How did it go?
@@kimwarner1681 It was ok but I wouldn't want to go through it again. I couldn't get anyone to come with me so had to be awake with just a numbing throat spray to help. It didn't hurt but felt uncomfortable and made me gag a few times. Staff at the hospital where lovely and that helped keep me relaxed. They found I've a small hiatus hernia & polyps but nothing to worry about.!!!! Thanks for sharing your experience. x
TY
thanks , mine will be next week. need to calm myself😊
How is your experience with endoscopy? Is it done?
@@ankitapatel844 It's a painless procedure and nothing to worry. It took 20 minutes under sedation.
@@ritaremogat3049 thank you I did mine today it was pretty good and quick how are doing hope you are doing well
@@ritaremogat3049 did you have anesthesia? I’m scared, I have mine Monday, I might cancel despite my stomach’s issues, I’m too scared lol I’ve never had anesthesia before.
hey thanks for making this video! i have pretty similar symptoms/diagnoses as you and I was wondering how you've managed to get better? thanks so much
Some are vegan etc.
I still get occasional flare ups but nothing compared to the past.
@@ThriftyBird what was it? Did they ever tell you what they found on your endoscopy? Mine hit out of nowhere three weeks ago. I have an endoscopy on Monday and thinking of canceling it, I’m too scared. What if I just do the bland diet, it sucks, I miss real food but did anything really change after you did the procedure? Can u eat regular foods again? I had butter cookies today lol no issues. I can have ground turkey and turkey sandwiches now, tuna is okay. Ugh 😩
I have Dyspnea with my acid reflex :( it’s hard to breath in idk if that causes my breathing but anyways I’m getting my endoscopy today in morning I’m nervous I have anxiety :(
How was it ?
Did you threw up afterwards? I had mine some years ago and after i woke up, i started vomiting a lot...
Oh wow! No, but I'm sorry to hear that. I did feel nauseated for a few hours but that's about it.
omg i had nasty side effects from pantoprazole i stopped taking them after only 2 weeks
Which ones , I’m taking that one
@@AlejandraHenriquesFitness it only said pantoprazole
Same
Same. I was shaking and numb. Stopped taking them after two weeks as well. Went back to regular eating and the symptoms came back. Have you been feeling better?
Any update on results?
Yes and no. They didn't find anything concerning with the biopsy but they also didn't provide me with any real answers. I'm improving in health every month but I still get stomach flare ups.
@@GLGC688 How did that go? Sounds like dealt with swallowing problems. Which I have been experiencing and I'm tired of it.
@@bluenomadbruh I ended up having mild dysmotility show on the barium swallow study. Since then I've been diagnosed with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, hereditary alpha-Tryptasemia syndrome and dysautonomia. One of the symptoms besides a high tryptase and positive genetic test for hereditary alpha-Tryptasemia is dysphagia.
I also have Barrett esophagus, likely from the mast cell activation and have been on a PPI since 2020 and take daily Famotidine and other mast cell stabilizers so I can eat.
Anestesia makes ya loopy! 😂
I just cant have chili or lemon my stomach just dont like it , even if my food isnt spicy 🥵 if its chili pepper based it kills me
I will have a upper endoscopy procedure and colonoscopy next month but I'm so worried that I'm afraid to put to sleep my biggest fear is not waking up i suffer with anxiety and panic attacks
This is an update. Today i had my Endoscopy. And i was nervous my blood pressure was a little high. They prepped me i had to put on a gown.
Did ur blood pressure go down after the procedure
@@griselgarcia3677It was a bit high not dangerously high. Could have been because of myself being nervous. They checked me after procedure and it was fine my blood pressure. If you have one your getting don't be afraid its like nothing they put you out. I had some anxiety and after i had it done i saw that the worry was for nothing. They have it well organized for your safety. I remember after i got the medicine to put me to sleep with a IV i woke up it was all done. I was just a little groggy afterward...They dont want you driving yourself because of that after. My son had to drive me home takes a while for the sedative to wear off. Your awake and alert just kinda groggy.
@@mariewinter8869 thank u for this I’m trying no to cancel it Thursday but I know I need it done I will keep ya updated!!!!!I know my blood presusure goes up when I go see the drs every time cause if anxiety..
@@griselgarcia3677 how was your experience???
@@joeymolina8560 I almost walked out lol they had to put me under as soon as I got to pack as my blood pressure shot up then I woke up the recovery sucked as far as soar throat but it was ok I don’t want to do it again though lol
Wow you guys so lucky in USA as we in UK only get an endoscopy awake!! It's awful, you either choose a numbing throat spray only or a light sedative but you can't get both & both times Iv had it has been really upsetting & traumatic, I had my last one on Monday 15 August 22 just 3 days ago and after the sedative when I'm lying on the theatre bed & flat pillow with the mouth guard all in I dozed slightly in that type of sleep where your aware of noises & where you are then I woke right up as the tube was going down my throat because your throat isn't numb & your gag reflex kicks in so all through the full thing you are severely wretching like you do when sick but obviously nothing coming up and it's just the body's reaction to a foreign object being put down throat & into stomach!that doesn't happen when under anesthesia,
It's so horrible & your trying to not do the wretches but it's an automatic response your body does when it's awake & each wretch hurts as the hard scope hurts the throat, then they pump air through the scope so it inflates your stomach to see it all & the air from that comes up so you have huge burps between the wretches!
Who on earth could ever relax or sleep through all that with just a light sedative?
Not me that's for sure 😢
When they take the scope out the wrenching instantly stops & I got wheeled to recovery, I actually had a silent cry because it's so traumatic & i also feel angry because not allowing the numbing throat spray or not having a short general anesthesia is just cruel I feel, it's fine if you don't want anesthesia & choose it but I think most people would want it because of how it feels when awake, they also send a nurse to tell us what the results are about 30 mins later and they will be sent to the GP as we are fully awake afterwards, it takes about 2 to 3 hours on average and I certainly feel it's done this way as it's our NHS so it's the most cost effective and the way to do more endoscopies per day and we patients don't get any choice bar sedative only(which is useless I felt the both times) or throat numbing spray only! No thought for the distress it causes at all, I certainly won't get another one now after my two bad experiences 20 years apart & the proceedure is still not any different, very upsetting & not reasonable to expect patients to do that when other options are simple to do like it's done in USA from what I see,
I'm glad you had a better experience and isn't anesthetic fantastic to protect us from really unpleasant procedures like this 👍🏼
Just thought I'd share my UK(Scotland) endoscopy experience.
I had my endoscopy with numbing spray nearly 2 weeks ago and totally agree with you. I felt like I was being suffocated and tried a few times to grab the scope, automatic reaction. The nurses were wonderful but praying I don't need another one. Waiting for the biopsy results.
She hasn’t post for 3 years hope she’s ok
Today I'm having my endoscopy. And I'm freaking nervous. Cause some people told me it's painful.
How’d it go? And how was your experience?? 😮
@@joeymolina8560 tbh it was quite bearable.. the pain was not extreme and the pain only remains for a min or two.
They took blood to see if I had a gluten intolerance today
Can you stay in your normal.clothes or do you have to undress fully and get into a gown?
Very glad you're okay...hope all is well!
Thank you! I'm definitely seeing some improvement but time will only tell.
Fuck I’ve been sedated a million times. With Trazodone and Xanax and klonopin and ambien and other anti psychotic medications lol 😂 so I am kind of looking forward ro sedation a little lol
I got the hiccups after my endoscopy. Has anyone got hiccups?
Thank you but Endoscopy is the worst experience they make you swallow a tube with camera in it and while that tube is inside you, you'll have throw up feeling and it'll continue until they remove it unless you do it with sedation.
162?? Damn girl 😂
Oh her heart rate never mind
Why can't we get some guys to share there experiences? Every single video on youtube regarding colonoscopies or bowel surgery is always produced by females for females ughh!!
