Thank you very much for this documentary. It's something that needed to be done & have people understand the Olympics & it's not all flashing lights, bells & whistles
I myself, just missed out on Athens & Beijing by fractions of a second.
I never understood what depression actually was until I experienced it myself.
For me it was a case of still going about my daily routine (training & working) but not wanting to be there, then when I got home, just staying in my room & crying myself to sleep.
At the time, my mum was saying, "you've done so much, travelled the world, represented your country, not many people can say that". But for me, it felt like (as Michael Phelps said) but it's ALL I DO.
I got through it by, EVENTUALLY talking to someone.

Aw thank you very much for your kind words ❤
I was a para swimmer on the national team for a number of years. It all came crashing down when I missed Athens & Beijing by a whisker.
Now swimming masters & it's great craic

Such a good documentary, we need to know more about this, mental health is so important, and there needs to be more awareness and that people who can help, should help and make a difference, there needs to be more compassion in this world

1 Diversity is much needed for survival

28:32 Well not if you are from Russia, Iran, Turkey, Azerbaijan or China. You bring a gold and you are set for life. You are financially set for life and you become a very respected member of the society, not just you but even your family.

unfortunately it is like this, people love the sun that rises, not the one that sets, only the memories and the medals remain, unless you are forced to sell gold medals, cups etc... because this also happens .

This doc makes me absolutely LIVID at the press for contributing to what these athletes had to endure🤬😤
I’m guessing that few to none of these reporters and comedians have ever been an elite athlete.
    SHAME ON THEM!!! BOOOOO👎🏽
I’m a former competitive swimmer (U.S. Masters level) and any athlete that even makes it to the olympics in any sport is a hero in my mind.

Amazing documentary, but it was very depressing and demotivating. I typically watch sports documentaries while training to stay motivated, but I couldn't finish my training session because this documentary sapped my energy. I'm not criticizing the documentary, as I genuinely liked it and believe it's something everyone should be aware of. I simply shouldn't have watched it while training.

Whether people are saying good things, or bad things even, about you, at least they're talking about you. At least people know who you are. You aren't anonymous. Better to be talked about, known, and make your mark, instead of being anonymous and not leaving your mark on the world.

Ur saying this without having any idea of how hurtful it is to have every move you make scrutinized publicly for everyone to see.

now that the Paris Olympics 2024 are happening this makes me so concerned for the youngster coming up and what will happening to them after that Gold... Im so happy for them when they win and come to think so it if we dont see them in the season, trails or qualifiers. what happens. Ive never though about it...

the very young winner who climbed onto the podium will continue to train and prepare for the next Olympics in Los Angeles the others will decide to finish their career and then invest all their earnings unless you have agents who are great foxes and you find yourself with nothing ..... .

If Lolo Jones only hit 3 hurdles in her life (including training) then to hit a hurdle in the final would indicate that she choked in the race. To face this & understand why & what she can do to loosen up more in high pressure environments, would be the improvement she needs to perform better.

Unfortunately, that's the real world. It's no different from a poor person who gets no help. In sport, if you make it, you'll have access to it all. If you dont, unfortunately you don't.

Not the cricket players in India. They're athletes who play a sport that's like a religion in India. Its the number one sport in that country by a huge margin. The players who play for the Indian national team, in test cricket or white ball cricket, are revered like gods. Especially when they're winning. Not so much when they lose. They're paid huge amounts of money as well.

The more a country wins medals and the less the care about the athletes. In India if you win a medal, they keep you high because India does not win many medals but very few.

People expect their bodies and mental capacity to stay intact under the most arduous and rigorous training, but for gold, prosperity and adulation we continue to ignore our limitations. How many times do we see elite athletes make it to the top, only to crash and burn once all the glory is gone and they face the rest of their lives. I'll stick to a leisurely stroll and a nice coffee in the park everyday. 🚶‍♀️💆‍♀️

  • @johngriffiths6742

Im not sure what the issue is with the payment of athletes. They are chasing a dream that is theirs, no one is forcing them to do it. To make money you need to win for prize money, or put your face out into the public arena where sponsorship will come from it. Why should the public care or be invested in their career if they're given no reason to??

The way some of them shit talk about each other can't be good for mental health issues. Just prove yourself in your chosen field and stop being childish. It's not tactics, it's petty infantile bullshit.

Ultracompetitive people push the limits of society so I thank them for that. But the US level of obsession with competitiveness is sickening. Not a healthy thing.

Look..... all these messages all these statements. SUper valuable. But the music in the background!!!!! WTF?=?==????? Its just a CONSTANT shreeking shack tune of hellbent sad-ness. I would love to frame these statements in a more variated way. I was suicidal for years. I know how many ppl didnt give at shit about listening to any of what i had to say about it. This is why i feel its important to "get the message out". But this documentary isnt helping! Sorry, not sorry.

😢 felt bad for these guys who are at top. What could be more dramatic ?
Seriously, self-discovery is essential in this hyper competitive world.
Have the source of purpose and joy within oneself, not in extral situations or world. Having established oneself firmly within nothing else matters, only then one should then act , actions will not take toll. This what was said scripture "योगस्थः कुरु कर्माणि सङ्गं त्यक्त्वा धनञ्जय। सिद्ध्यसिद्ध्योः समो भूत्वा समत्वं योग ..."
any human beings should know this trick. Only then will humans be sane.
Othewise, even all the medals will mean nothing to the person who won it.

Lovely docuvid. I can only imagine what it will be like when I stand before my Maker at the end of the age. What He's going to say will be second to none. My Maker aka Jesus... it'll be better than what the world can offer and it's imperishable.....
    We need Jesus....

Hard to feel sorry for them. They chose to dedicate their whole lives to this weird extreme elite thing and then they complain it's hard and that they don't have normal lives. Nobody HAS to train for the Olympics. You CHOOSE to do that at the price of becoming a weirdo and having no life outside of sports. That is a choice you make. That is a total luxury problem.
