Common sense, she drowned. She didn’t check the weather before she went paddle boarding, weather became bad and high probability her body became snagged on some trees under the water.

If her board was found all the way across the lake in that cove that's frequented by people, and nobody reported finding the board and putting it there, she didn't drown. She either disappeared on purpose, or it is foul play.

Such an uninformed and stupid remark. You really think that if foul play was involved that her attacker would just leave her paddleboard as a piece of evidence? No, this is most likely a drowning. They just haven't recovered her body from the reservoir yet.

I live on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington at about the same latitude as the area where Emily went missing in Montana. Many comments here are questioning a solo paddle board outing at 8:30pm. In July the sun doesn’t fully set until 10:30-11pm at the apex of summer. I know it sounds weird but it’s true. If she intended on a 90-120 minute sunset outing it’s not as bizarre as it sounds. Still the root problem here is probably the “solo” element more than the time.

So many people won’t wear the leash when they paddleboard. I always do because it can save your life. I’ve been laughed at even for using one. When it’s windy out there it can become impossible to go anywhere and your board can get away from you quickly.
I read she went out after 8:30 pm. It could easily have been dark out there.

I know the easy answer for most people is foul play, but that is very rarely the case. Much more likely that she wasn't wearing her paddle board leash, fell into the cold water, couldn't get back to her paddle board, and drowned. Hoping she is found soon so that her family can have closure

That would be very strange due to her board being found with the paddle tethered to it, directly across from where she parked at another parking area, which are sparsely scattered along the reservoir

Of course this could just be an accident. Banking on foul play. Her paddle board found on the other side of the lake could be a decoy. It certainly has kept people focused on her being in the lake. I wonder if she crossed paths with somebody in the parking lot who was a bad actor. The paddle board was moved, perhaps, as a diversion.

That’s a big body of water. If she fell off and lost contact with her board in the middle of that reservoir, the most likely thing is that she drown. Does anyone know if she was a strong swimmer? Did she wear a lifevest when she paddle boarded? Did the paddleboard have a leash? Someone could’ve found the paddleboard and then stowed it. The simplest explanation is usually the correct one.

Considering Emily’s outdoor skills. She was extremely capable in that environment . Something happened. I suspect foul play. Here’s a few possibilities. She joined up with someone out on the lake that was a predator. They lured Her to that remote Cove maybe under guise of needing help or something? Or she decided to check that cove out herself and ran into a bad situation. Question. Are Motorized craft allowed on that body of water? If so . She could have met foul play by a predator in a Boat. Then the Boat towed Her paddle board to that Cove . They load up the Boat and Emily and split the scene. 🙏s big time. Her Board made it to the Cove. No one has come forward reporting finding the Board stranded in the Water!!!

Yes there are motor boats and is getting to be a pretty busy reservoir. Next, evidently there was a weather event sometime during the evening she went missing including high winds and therefore waves that could have surged her paddle board onto higher ground or to a position that made it look like it was stowed....the information concerning her board and paddle seems a little vague and that is kind of critical as far as I'm concerned.

    • @KAT-dg6el

Three bits of info that would be interesting to know: how cold/deep is the water, are motorised boats allowed on the resevoir and was there any indication of damage to the board? Could it have been an accident/panic/cover-up? If the water is cold and deep, she could still be in there.
Otherwise it sounds like she deliberately went to the other side to meet someone with further intentions unknown.

If she fell off her paddle board, due to a current, And the board got caught on some tree snags the first thing she’s going to do disconnect herself from that paddleboard. She could’ve very easily been sucked down and when that happens it’s extremely difficult to ever find the body.
People come to Montana and think they can go climbing, hiking and get in the water and they end up falling, drowning and getting attacked by bears.
She wasn’t a native Montanan and these things always happens to out of staters cause they don’t know the dangers.
All they see is isn’t this pretty……

Judging by the location and the facts known, I’m guessing she either got caught in some wind, and got disconnected from her board or she crossed and something sketchy happened when she made it to the shore. I know the pain of having a friend go missing and not be found. I hope they get closure ❤

Only the insane can be fearless. Then there's stupid. No one should go into the wilderness solo. The days when solo adventures and travel were safe, those are long gone. Not in the USA, not anywhere.

Few people go missing in the wild, the overwhelming amount of people who go missing do so from cities. These cases just get so much attention because of their rarity. Most solo hikers return safely. And there have been many cases of people disappearing from groups as well. Life is not without risk, and to live in fear is to not live at all.

They need to start installing cameras at these park areas to help identify suspicious activity. It would help give leads on missing persons as well as catch thieves stealing from parked vehicles.

She likely paddled across the reservoir, stored her board and tried to get a ride or walk back to her car. Something fishy happened after she stored her board. I highly doubt she drowned.

This one seems like a serial killer like murder. A two hour paddleboard trip directly across the reservoir>? If she followed the shore it would of been even longer. Someone planted that paddleboard. I say that because the spot is directly accessible by vehicle, Both her entrance and exit. She might not even had made it to the reservoir and her abductor may have learned that information from her before she even ever arrived. If she drowned her body would of floated>? Or is the water too cold for the body to float>? Did she normally wear a life vest>? I dont know this one just has too many red herrings of human involvement so im sorry my mind went there.
