    I like the videos you developed around this saw. I was looking for a new one to run my saw mill and after watching you I bought FarmerTec Holzfforma G388. the price with expedited shipping was $362.86 $98 of that was shipping. I watched the saw mill video you did and this one preformed just fine. I was running a Stihl MS310 on the mill with no problem. I think this saw is a hot rod for sure. Thank you for all you did to help me find my new saw.

    I had a o36 about like that. It was a good saw for a year . Used it every day for at the time i was selling firewood. Then one day it lost power i took it to where i purchased it from used . The dealer told me it needed rebuilt. The rings had reached their life span. Paid 300 newly rebuilt cut approx 150 cords of wood with it ,mostly hard wood ,then sold it running but needing rebuilt for 100. It more than earned its keep i believe i went though 2 bars and prob a dozen chains. I replaced it with a small blue homelite EZ . The EZ was lighter and cut faster. Purchased it from a antique store for 35$ replaced the diaphragm and a dry rotted line . being a 45 + year old unused saw i worked it till 2 years ago when it was stolen. Still looked and ran great . I miss the EZ she was a sweetheart snappy hi compression lil hot rod of a saw. And was built to last.

      Look at the Mercedes maintenance schedule for their cars, now do the same for your Dodge, Ford, Chevy etc. Treat you car as though it were a Mercedes, betcha you'll get the same service length.

    Uncle Cy, at the end of the video you said this saw was just under $200 around the Thanksgiving holiday. I'm assuming that was Thanksgiving 2018. Currently the G388 shows a list price of US$279.00 and 20% off list for a final price of US$223.20. Do you know if Farmer-Tec will run a Thanksgiving deal this year to maybe bring the price to $200 or even less? I'm in the market for a bigger saw like the G388. I'm just not into a really big price. Watching your videos and seeing the G388 tackle the bucking and milling, I like the G388.

    • @DIYwithUncleCy
      @DIYwithUncleCy  5 лет назад

      The 388 is one of my favorits for sure. I dont think that the special will bring it back down. The current prices are the result of the trade war between the US and China I believe (at least the increase coincided with the tariffs). Hooefully that will all get straighted out and maybe the prices will come back down..

      You’re doing a great job of testing and reviewing these saws for the rest of us looking at buying them, but you’re heavy on saws in the extremes either very small or mostly very big. There’s a huge portion of potential buyers interested in the 50-60cc size saws. Kind of is who want an “all around” saw. Looking forward to your upcoming videos! Thanks for doing what you do!

    Hey Cy, I purchased this saw and it wouldn't fire a lick. My friend checks it out and he sid that points are no good. My question to you is where can I get points for this thing? It just puts out no fire to the plug. Its getting fuel and everything seems good. Thank you for your insight on this saw

    • @DIYwithUncleCy
      @DIYwithUncleCy  4 года назад

      Well considering it is a 2 cycle engine and gets spark from a magneto spinning past a coil and therefore has no points, I'd have to say your friend is incorrect. If it is not getting spark you can try adjusting the coil so it is a playing card thickness away from the magneto and see if that solves it. If it doesn't you may need a new coil. I have bought brand new saws off the shelf here in the states that have had this problem, so it is not exclusive to this company. I would try emailing them and see if they would send you a replacement coil.

      I do buy direct from them though I have only bought 3 of their saws, the others were sent to me to test out, on them. And yes the saws are worth it. After a few tanks of fuel through them you will want to tweak the tuning a bit is all. I have had most of mine over a year and all of them still perform well. I do not blame china for the virus (that's 5th grade silliness) it could have just as easily started any where in the world just happened to be china where it evolved to human to human transferable, so do not see that as an excuse to ignore the fact that in today's day in age we live in a world economy.

      All of them I have received have been ready to run out of the box. There was a snafu with the G444 chain tensioner but I just ordered a new one from them and out it in, easy part to fix. As to the performance of these two they are near identical in feel but I think the 444 has a touch more power and may be a bit lighter. Either one is a good call and I grab these two interchangeably for any job calling for a saw of this size.

    @thomastieffenbacherdocsava1549 5 лет назад

    Uncle Cy, Checked out the site. Saw Head only free shipping. The 28 inch bar and chain shipping 38 bucks. The shipping for my 106 cc saw was more than the saw. 28 inch with the sprocket and chisel chain looks pretty good but. Your bought 2 bars and chains did you get a discount on shipping? Long bars have no sprocket. When I talked to reps from Alibaba where I bought my saw they said I'd be better off buying local. Any thoughts on this since you is the "Chainsaw Man?!"

    • @DIYwithUncleCy
      @DIYwithUncleCy  5 лет назад +1

      If I recall correctly the total for both bars and chains with shipping was less than 90 bucks. I figured since a 20inch Stihl bar at the dealer recently cost me 60 and another 40 for a new chain, that 90 is a pretty good deal.
      And yes finding a 36 to 48 inch bar with a sprocket is difficult but they are out there. I have seen them on eBay before. Oh and they are not cheap which is why I do not have one yet :-D

    Is the saw still running good. my 460 rancher is toast. I need a new saw. That one is half the price. I'm interested 100%

      Yes it is. Have passed the break-in and dialed it up to 12,500 RPM. Of course I cannot speak for its longevity just yet. But I suspect it will be around awhile if I don't abuse it.

      DIY with Uncle Cy do you know if my bar and chain from my husqvarna 460 would fit that bad boy. my 460 lasted 10 years. I was definitely hard on it but I work every saw I have to the max. if I could get 1 season out of the blue saw it would definitely be worth it while I rebuild the 460.

      It is a Stihl clone so I don't think it will. Not sure if bars are interchangeable between Stihl and Huskys. They do sell some husky clones too though.

    How does it compare to the 62cc saws you did video on

    • @DIYwithUncleCy
      @DIYwithUncleCy  5 лет назад

      It most definitely cuts faster, BUT it is also 10cc and about 1/2 a horse power bigger. Both saws are great and if I were slinging one all day I'd probably go with the 62 if only because it is quite a bit lighter weight. However for felling this one would be my go to from my collection at this point.

      @@DIYwithUncleCy sounds great... my 62cc came in Friday it runs like a raped ape .if I hadn't of broken the anti vibe mount I would still be running it. It Is a light saw for 4.5hp I was very surprised how well it went thru red oak and knotty sweet gum

      Yea I grew up in a time when saws didn't have em at all. And a chain brakes primary purpose is to stop the chain in the case of a kick back. It is a good practice to use it when starting the saw or setting it down. But having gotten used to saws without years ago I never developed the habit, bad on me, but I have also never been injured by a chainsaw so I must be doing some thing right.

    That is a Stihl clone. I rather buy a real Stihl.

    • @DIYwithUncleCy
      @DIYwithUncleCy  5 лет назад +3

      And so you should. But I cannot afford an 800 dollar saw, which is approximately what the comparable Stihl model costs. This one is under 300. But you go spend the extra 500 bucks by all means.

    Kind of an do it all but none well size ... heavier than a 36 and too big for medium size timber ... too small for a mill and really big stuff ... too big to limb with to small to mill with unless you have time to burn

    I've had BAD luck with Chinese saws.....blown coils, fuel leakage, right out of the box....it's a Gamble. Parts are often hard to get, or Out of Stock.....sure it's a Clone Saw....but I'm not wasting more money "guessing" to see if parts from Stihl or Husky fit.....honestly you're better off buying a Used quality saw from Ebay that runs....at least you get your money back easily.

      This company sells complete kit saws of the same ones they ssell as power heads so your point is completely mute.
