The little black flies forgo the tasty humans to avoid getting hit by flying wood chips from the Holztforma. Most satisfying thing imagined as you buzz saw down a large Log.
Mingo Marker Tip: Just put the wheel on the log with the can further in from the end, then pull handle backwards so that the wheel rolls backwards. It'll roll back until it stops on the trigger, then will drag on the log. Drag until the middle of the can is at the end of the log, then push forward as normal. Sounds complicated but you can do it one-handed and it only takes a second or two once you get the hang of it. Glad to see you've finally found the marker. I've been using the same one for the past 15 years and it works awesome.
Looks nice Sandy! Hope you’ll get some job done with that one. Looking forward to seeing more. As a Swede I’m a sucker for Husqvarna, but it’s nice seeing other brands as well.
good morning Sandy nice new toy the 28 inches bar does help your back at the yard for sure also if you got big trees in diameter in your woods that needs to be cut you will love that big one but to cut the branches off the tree after a little while that chain saw is a little much so have fun with it and enjoy using it have a great day
I love the 372xp. I have one that I bought in 2004, Its been through a lot, it needs a fair amount of work now so I am considering buying one of the knockoffs. I have heard the knockoffs have cheaper gas caps carbs on/off switch and recoil.
Hi Sandy - I enjoyed watching you opening the box to your new chainsaw; much like a child at Christmas time. Maybe the noise will scare away those black flies.😉 Have a great day!😄
Hi Sandy, I just refit my 28" full chisel back on my Stihl 660 to buck a big oak I cut in my forest. Boy did I miss how it processes wood. I usually run a 24 on that saw with a skip tooth. My 28" bar wasn't quite going through the log but it still cut so fast. I also call it my reaching chainsaw, you can buck stuff on the ground while standing up. I have been contemplating a Holtzforma saw, maybe now ill pull the trigger.
Sandy, great to see you run a bit of a larger saw! I certainly have some experience with the Holzfforma saws. I have had 2 of the 372clones. They are wonderful tools at an affordable price. The performance is excellent and I have found their quality to be pretty decent. I have made videos in the past about my saws and have since sold them and moved to OEM Husqvarna 562XP like your 555, Echo CS-620PW and a Husqvarna 545. I like chainsaws quite a bit and cut firewood for myself and fell trees for my sawmill. As you are a DIY kind of guy, the G372 is excellent because you will be able to adjust, troubleshoot and repair if need be. I kinda though that when I went to the 562XP that all of that was behind me but unfortunately it is in the shop with only 1.5hrs on it. Husqvarna is replacing the carb and hopefullly this will work. Great channel and hope those black flys go away soon. Long time watcher and you have been one of the Channels that has inspired me! Thanks!
Since you have that 555, I would probably recommend the 572xp if you found yourself needing a larger saw here and there. I just simply don’t very often and I purchased that 562 with a 28 from the dealer. My echo 620 has a 27 from the dealer and both do what I need. I am in the Ozarks in Oklahoma and most of my pines are less than 24” diameter and my hardwoods are simply in rough shape when they are big. Enjoy sir!
@@sawingwithsandy I tried posting a post with a link on the g372 vs the 620. If you were to listen to the 372, it does have a bit more rpm and as you get that carb tuned up better, yours will really sing. It is a bit Fat on the high needle to me. Enjoy
I have a 372 with a 20 inch bar. It cuts good and fast. Now I have seen the 28 on your saw I want one. Your high speed is a little rich but wait till the 4th tank to adjust.
Definitely a good looking saw with good power and not being so heavy looking like it will be a good addition to your arsenal I have not researched these chainsaws but seems to be very good. Great video Sandy.
That puppy is a beast....20lbs! I run the 24" bar on my 562xp and yes, not bending over to cut logs on the ground is the best feature of the longer bar.
Nice saw. Great video, keep them coming. I know your pain when it comes to black flies, horse flies, deer flies and mosquitoes. I was stationed in CFB Petawawa. They make spring miserable. Have fun, stay safe.
Sandy, I bought a holzfforma saw a couple of years ago. It is the 92 cc version of a Stihl. I wanted a bigger saw because I occasionally get some pretty big trees. I couldn't justify 1200 to 1500$ for a bigger saw so I bought the Holzfforma. I don't use it much but when I do it gets the job done fast. Good luck with your new saw.
Nice running, so far, saw. I look forward to your long term review on in. You have black flies and I have mosquitos. Deet is a daily thing for me and, I imagine, for you. Good vid. Thanks.
Hey buddy, you're handling that new saw like a pro!! I used my (30+ year old) 14-inch electric chainsaw the other day, trimming some low and dead branches off my trees. You're correct... it felt GOOD working on the trees with a saw. I'll take the branches that are thick enough and make live-edge cribbage boards with them. Hey... lots of news on the TV about the fires in Canada. I hope they are well clear of your place. Take care, buddy, and be safe............
Sounds like a good saw to be working after all that time. Can't go wrong there. Yeah lots of fires up here. It's the worst I've ever seen and closest to home for sure. I'm hoping all turns out as best it can for my neighbours who have fires right in their backyards as we speak
I agree, it will either run and hold together, or it will not, there may be some truth to a so called ''proper break in'' but I doubt I will ever know.
I'd really recommend Oregon EXJ skip chain, especially with the longer bar. You'll get way more out of that saw with skip chain. Watch out for kick back though, the chain break will work aye, but theres nothing stopping the nose of that longer bar smacking you in the face 😂 try keeping it in its power band too, engage the dogs into the log and let it feed in. The engines RPMs should almost like buzzing, thats its happy place. Happy cutting!
Lots of smoke around for sure. Getting pretty close to many friends and family around the province including in Quebec just across the border from Ontario.
Hi Sandy. Don't you just like a new or newly sharpened chain? The only thing better would be if they self-sharpened as they cut. If you can see the adjustment for the carburetor, a special spline tool can be used to maximize the idol or run speed. Have good days!
As it breaks in, I think the RPM's will increase a bit. Nice saw. Was thinking of getting one but a Jonsered presented itself and I just had to grab it.
Always fun to get a new tool. I'm curious what made you purchase a saw when you have 2 others. Was secretly hoping it was a new generator. Have fun with your new toy! 👋
I have a 5800 johncutter/holtzforma they make a great backup saw for me, I can see you’ll get great use of it on the landing there for the big stuff. The only downside to these saws is they burn twice the amount of fuel lol, but you can’t beat the price. I’ve had mine for 3 years never even tuned the thing, great quality. Take care
Hi Sandy. Nice video. Nice Mad Max chainsaw. Black flies suck all the fun out of cutting up firewood. I wear a net over the head that closes tight around the neck, Amazon. With long shirt, hat and gloves - bring on the flies.😀 Wearing it may not be the look you want for video's. 🤣 Happy Sawing.
good video and job. after it's broke in it may have more power i hope it works well for you. the name brand saws are so high priced now you can buy 3 clone saws for the same price. i wish you luck if i was near you i would buy the 660 clone off you. take care, be safe and well.
Hi John! Great to hear from you. I do like the Stihl and Husky saws for sure. Figured I better give this G372XP a go since I had a good luck with my G660. Thanks for coming along for the video!
I am interested in this saw for a lot of large fallen trees from a storm at my farm. I did notice the cut time looked as though the slices of logs got longer as you went on. I myself would have never got anywhere near the ground. Hitting dirt can just dull the teeth terribly and more so on some ground vs. others. I do enjoy your videos. Not sure whether you went closer and maybe hit ground a bit because of the longer chain bar. It saved a lot of time not needing to go to the other side and cut again. I myself would have rolled the log more. Even making multiple slices before rolling so long as the log was rollable. I may get this saw if my finances are good when it comes time. I do have a saw other than this that I will purchase if I can get by with a 24-inch bar and my finances are a little tighter. This saw can go up to a 32-inch bar and is a horsepower more than my alternative. I am hoping to get this saw in the near future. I do have a metal 3 car garage project that needs to maintain financial stability on. Still waiting on delivery and installation.
playing with a new toy sure is fun. what i didn't see is gloves on your paws and a coffee maker nearby. i empty 4-5 pots daily. personally if i had your mill i would have tried to see what kind of lumber i could get out of those logs.
Hi Fred! Hope the sludge is going down good today! Yeah would have made some nice lumber as well. Always a bit of a tough decision some days with the hardwood as to whether to make lumber or firewood
Kind of funny stopping to put on the felling dogs and then you never used them. 😂 When I was a buckerman we ran smaller saws but we put 4" longer bars so we didn't have to bend over. We kept one big saw with a 38" bar for bucking the big stuff. Nobody wanted to be the guy on that monster. I've never heard of that brand. Is it a husky knockoff? Sounded pretty solid with the similar power band to huskies.
I'll be interested to see how it performs. I'm a devote Husky guy although I've run a lot of brands. I despise Stihl but have to admit I own one but it was my dear departed uncles saw and it was bequeathed to me. I grew up in a treetopping family on my mother's side. My grandpa and his buddy started the business with hand saws and a model "A" Ford truck doing dangerous tree removal. I can remember at 4 riding around with gramps, packing one branch at a time to the truck. Well not the model "A". That was a bit before my time. But I was running saws at 11 and climbing 100' trees at 14. But I'm getting off topic. Since I don't run a saw continually I am interested in a saw like the Husky that might be less money.
These saws are not terribly impressive in their stock form but make a great affordable platform for performance saw builders (saw porting) From my experiences, the fuel tank vents can be troublesome, the oiler usually under performs at first but improves with break-in, and occasionally a carb will be faulty. All in all, pretty good saws especially for the price.
It’ll need 5-6+ tanks thru it for the rings to seat properly, tune it in the cut and if you need tuning advice just look up Tinman’s saws or any of the other big saw channels as they have some pretty decent videos on how it’s done…. You won’t blow it up, small adjustments like 1/10th of a turn at a time till it comes alive and stops blubbering in the cut. I run stock and ported 372’s a fair bit, good saws just not overly powerful compared to saws in the 80cc+ class but the chain speed makes up for it… just bought a new 572xp and been playing with it, it will almost outperform a good ported 372xp in stock form. You should find a skip tooth chain for that saw, a skip chain doesn’t cut as fast as a full house chain due to it missing half its teeth BUT it will take a bit of load off the engine thus keeping the RPM’s up helping it cut faster…. As contradictory as that sounded it makes perfect sense when you see it happen…. Plus with skip tooth chains there’s a lot less teeth to sharpen 😉 You should also practice feeling your way thru the log with the tip of the bar, cut about half way down thru the log then pull the tip in and out of the log and get used to the feel when the tip is just breaking thru the bark, this will let you “feel” your way thru the cut when close to the ground and keep the chain out of the dirt…. 99% of my focus when I’m falling or bucking is on where the tip is, what the tip is doing, how far from the ground is the tip…
Sandy even though the trees are on the ground keep a hatchet and a wedge close by because your log still can still pinch your saw and people make this big mistake when the tree grabs the saw they try to pull it out I'll even admit I've done it too but take the wedge tablet and a couple of tops on so you can get your saw out otherwise you have a great chance abandon your saw blade and they can get very expensive
Yeah am seeing the effects quite a bit. Been a nearly province-wide fire ban here for a good little while now and fires are popping up daily which is a bit scary . That's a great saw you've got there Brian. I 've always admired them
They are not in my backyard yet but they sure are relatively close. Not liking the smoke in the air all the time that's for sure. I appreciate you asking David
Good question. This was some hardwood that I got dropped off actually that I ended up deciding I needed the firewood more than the birch lumber int his case
unboxing a new saw what you really need to unbox is a new generator, sorry to be so cruel but l have seen you fight that generator soooooo many times its starting to tic me off and lm not even using it, just sayin, still l like your vids, your killin me in st louis lol

You should also practice feeling your way thru the log with the tip of the bar, cut about half way down thru the log then pull the tip in and out of the log and get used to the feel when the tip is just breaking thru the bark, this will let you “feel” your way thru the cut when close to the ground and keep the chain out of the dirt…. 99% of my focus when I’m falling or bucking is on where the tip is, what the tip is doing, how far from the ground is the tip…
Thanks for passing the tips along I appreciate it
Sandy even though the trees are on the ground keep a hatchet and a wedge close by because your log still can still pinch your saw and people make this big mistake when the tree grabs the saw they try to pull it out I'll even admit I've done it too but take the wedge tablet and a couple of tops on so you can get your saw out otherwise you have a great chance abandon your saw blade and they can get very expensive
Great tip there Arnold. A few times the bar was nearly pinched in there.
That’s a huge birch trunk.
Sure was a good chunk of wood
Damn it I miss read the title n was waiting for the saw to break. Lol .
hahaha I hope that doesn't happen but if it does I"ll be sure to film it
Are you seeing the affects of fires In Canada, I have the 372xp husky
Yeah am seeing the effects quite a bit. Been a nearly province-wide fire ban here for a good little while now and fires are popping up daily which is a bit scary . That's a great saw you've got there Brian. I 've always admired them
Power band in the husky
Sure do enjoy the 2 stroke power bands
Looks like fun to me
Sure will get some log time Murray
Hello Mr. Sandy, After watching this vid I will be looking more seriously at getting one of these saws.
I found it worked pretty good right off the start. for sure
I haven't used a chainsaw in over 25 yrs! And to save money we reused (used) motor oil to oil the bar. Do you still have to oil it ?
Hi Paul. Yeah I still need to use bar oil for the saw to keep things moving nicely
@@sawingwithsandy try using old used and filtered ( motor or hydro)oil instead of expensive bar oil
I was going to comment that that was a big saw not to have log dawgs until you found that you had forgot to put them on.
hahah I thought something felt a bit off
Allo
Nice buy 👍
Thanks for coming along today!
His chaps.
You'll spend a bit more time sharpening that one.but the saw sounds like it has good power.
Sure seems like it pulls through the hardwood well
Getting more toys all the time!
Figure I better up the ante
Turn the high jet in a little and she will wake up.
Thanks for the help Aaron
Are the wildfires close to where you live up there?
They are not in my backyard yet but they sure are relatively close. Not liking the smoke in the air all the time that's for sure. I appreciate you asking David
Nice saw, got one of these coming, Is yours still running strong still?
All is still good with it
Thanks mate@@sawingwithsandy
What happened to big blue you were using with your first little winch?
I ended up selling it with my winch setup
I think its called a log dawg is missing, you said in the intro you pinned wide open. I did not see that Sandy
Hi Rodney. Thanks for coming along for the video. Saw worked well today. Looking forward to keeping it going for firewood in the future
I didn’t see you use the tooth brackets
Hey John, With the long bar ended up not needing to dig things in too deep
👍
What is the blur in the center of the screen?
Think bar oil got on the lense
Great video! One of your best.
Thanks Leon. I appreciate that
Why aren't you milling the birch?
Good question. This was some hardwood that I got dropped off actually that I ended up deciding I needed the firewood more than the birch lumber int his case
You should’ve bought some new drills. Haha
hahha that's for sure!
Are any fires anywhere close to you?
Hi Rick, there are fires a little bit away so thankfully not imminent danger but the smoke is blowing in pretty thick here these days
How close are the wildfires to you?
Hi Brian, the fires are getting pretty close unfortunately. The smoke in the area is not good around me.
I was wrong
Damn go9d saw.
Great to hear that Donald
Sandy have you ever tried smoking a big cigar to keep those Black flys at bay
I’m not a smoker but would imagine it could work for sure
You didnt grease the roller nose
You're right. I did off camera though but forgot to film it
To quote Tim Talylor uh uh uh uh!
unboxing a new saw what you really need to unbox is a new generator, sorry to be so cruel but l have seen you fight that generator soooooo many times its starting to tic me off and lm not even using it, just sayin, still l like your vids, your killin me in st louis lol
Thanks for coming along for the video. Stay tuned curtis. Lots in store
@@sawingwithsandy now that's a hint i look forward to.
Many generators are on their way to Sandy...soon he will be doing a genny farm.
Gloves
I just can't get comfortable with them on in the warm weather I find
Break it in the way u work saws and diesel engins dont baby them
MM77 Approved 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks for coming along
You might want to add a handle to your log marker so you don't have to bend over and walk. Do to much of that and your back will tell you about it.
I like that idea David. Been meaning to find something I could use. I certainly don't want back issues
