    Just for a heads up, I have researched the health repercussions in using this type of hose for brewing and as a result I am about to make a few changes to my setup. I have used great quality hose for the setup the hose in the shed is food grade and chemical free. The garden hose is going to be replaced.

    Cool gadget! And I’m envious of your shed setup. Some concerns I immediately had were with the potential taste of the water coming from the garden hose, and health concerns around plasticisers etc. Can you get “food grade” garden hoses? If the coiled hose sits in the sun for a while, it could leach plastic into the water sitting in the hose, so you’d probably want to run it for a good while before using the water in your brews.

      Thanks James I do really enjoy my little part of the world. I have taken your concerns in consideration and have researched the health repercussions in using this type of hose for brewing and as a result I am about to make a few changes to my setup. Thanks for heads up you probably saved me me from some awful beers. 😃

      Almost, I got it for the fun of it, I found it to be convenient and fun to use. I have been made aware though that, I need food grade hose to use it for brewing so I now need to make some changes.

    I read about that thing when it came out but I think you are the first to review it, or at least the first I've seen to review it. Happy to know the first was an oops as I was scared maybe it just wasn't going to be all that accurate. I really don't need this for brewing but I could see a lot of uses for it well beyond brewing.

      Hi Mike, how is the competition going for the Kveik yeast? I got it for the fun of it, I found it to be convenient and fun to use. I have been made aware though that, I need food grade hose to use it for brewing so I now need to make some changes. I have been following all your videos and would like to say they are awesome to watch. You will soon be as big as David Heaths channel.

      @@SimpleHomeBrew I thought about the food grade hose but wondered if it really matters if the hose is clean, plus you are going to boil the water anyways, unless the hose is leaking chemicals out of control which I can't imagine. The water measuring device did get me thinking as I buy my water in 1 gallon containers and if you lined them up they are all plus or minus a small amount so technically speaking when I add 7.5 gallons of water I might be adding + or - an ounce = to about 30 millilitres in your neck of the woods. Thank you for the kind words and remember is it our down to earth and learning as we go that I think most people truly appreciate. David Heath has a ton of real world commercial brewing from my understanding and his (no offense to him) slightly dry delivery and very little inflection in his voice overs is what helps him really stand out so people either love his channel or don't. For me the reason I like his videos is he gets lots of free or loaned equipment to test and is still extremely non-bias as most who get the free or loaned equipment don't nit'pick or call them out for tiny things that can drive a home brew nuts. I am getting ready to release beer/food related videos as there is so much more that beer can be used for but sadly not a lot of the brewing channels dive into that.

    These are a repackage of an existing chinese water meter used for RO systems etc, you can change the Q value in the settings, to match the flow sensor thats being used, you can also tweak it to calibrate your setup. I have used these successfully for a couple of years now. Kegland have done a nice job putting it all in one box, my solenoid and sensor are remote to my display in the brewery but i have one setup for the RO feed similar to this seup

    Don't use garden hose, you need food grade.

    I have a question.
    I would like to use the flowmeter to measure hot water at a temperature of 78°C, but for distribution with components (e.g. John Guest) the maximum temperature is 65°C.
    I would therefore like to perform the measurement on the cold water supply in front of the boiler, which heats the water and the cold water displaces the hot water. The flow meter would not come into contact with hot water and would count the same amount of hot water flowed. At the outlet of the boiler, I would put a non-return valve which, after stopping the water from the Flow meter, will limit the saturated air and prevent the leakage of the remaining water (there will not be any pressure to force the water out.
    The question is ... will it work?

      The idea would work I would think. I don't think the flow meter can handle temperature above 50 degrees Celsius.

    Garden hose is for washing car watering garden not for drinking water your beer especially on a hot day will taste of garden hose. Don’t like to be negative but you need to ditch the garden hose .

    Cool gadget. Do you have an Eames Lounge Chair in your brew shed?!

    • @SimpleHomeBrew
      @SimpleHomeBrew  3 года назад +1

      Yeah, I had to move out of the house the drawback was my chair had to move out too. It is a bit of hindrance in the shed but very comfortable non the less.
