Today, we’re discussing the weird case of Goku’s Age. This is the third part of my character age series and is honestly the last of the characters that I knew I was going to discuss, and it might be the last long form video for the character ages as I don’t see any other character ages being very confusing. If you guys have more characters you want the ages of explained let me know in the comments down below and I can cover them in shorter videos - or maybe do a compilation video for requested ages.

@@snyggmikael I think that's pretty much because Namekians race differences, there's Nemekian Fighters, and also another one wich I can't remember the name of, but they are the ones who control the dragon balls, then there's a third race, the Super Namekian, wich is the fusion of both

@Roy Fokker When using the entryway to the Hyperbolic Time Chamber via The Lookout on Earth, one year inside the chamber is the equivalent to one day on the outside. A step over the threshold of the training area brings one immediately into ten times Earth's gravity(the same as that of Planet Vegeta, Planet Zoon, and King Kai's Planet); the air gets denser, and the temperature fluctuates, the deeper one goes into the training area.
It suspends time inside but not one's age. That is why it is dangerous as it shows why gohan is older. The time chamber does effect age and time of people inside.
@Roy Fokker they don't age slower at all. In fact they keep the same look throughout till they hit 50. This is what Toriyama said they do not age slowly but they start to lose power and looks at around 50. Because of the body such and such forth. Their looks do not change much and yes this is canon looks is something biological that does not show age quickly. Saiyans have a normal lifespan equal to a human. But again *they appear to be aging slowly they aren't aging slowly.*
And second of all yes years in the time chamber effects age of personal body. This was shown by trunks in the cell saga as his hair length growth and such also by gohan too. In fact Trunks kept the long hair for a while once it happened.
*People age within the Room of Spirit and Time at the same rate that they would on Earth for the equivalent lemgth of time that they were in there. For them, several days/weeks/months/etc have passed, so they're going to age accordingly.*
As others have pointed out, Trunks' hair length and Bulma's comments about growing up is a perfect indication of how they age in there. Even though only a day had passed outside of the Room, inside, enough time had passed for Trunks hair to grow long enough that he needed to tie it up in a ponytail.
So don't lie to people thank you.
@Roy Fokker let me also correct myself for you. You are right they age slower. But first they have to grow faster to be able to age slower in there prime. So there you go you were right about the age but not the time chamber.

@@filipe_paixao he means that Saiyans bodies age slowly, so their appearance and physical prowess is almost unchanged from their 20s to their 80s. Although it's not clear if this means that they have long lifespans or if that they age rapidly when they hit 80.

Future Trunks was born in Age 766. In Age 784, at the age of 18; traveled 20 years into the past. He spent 2 years in the Room of Spirit and Time, making him physically 20 years old. The Future Trunks Arc of Super takes place in Age 796; which makes him 32 physically and 30 chronologically.

4:00 I remember Frieza saying (while he was fighting the Z Fighters in his 3rd form) that he destroyed planet Vegeta "twenty years ago." If Goku was two years old when planet Vegeta was destroyed, wouldn't that make him (chronologically) twenty two, not twenty five?

@Roy Fokker After they beat Kid Buu there's a big timeskip. Super takes place before the timeskip. That's why Pan, Bra & Uub are still babies. After the timeskip Trunks and Goten are actually big-big boys.

Goku stated he was 12 during the 21st Tenkaichi tournament, so he would be a year younger than you stated in a lot of spots
The 21st Tenkaichi Tournament took place in age 750. 8 months after Oolong's wish. I'm guessing he was just about to turn 13. So he is kinda right, but wrong at the same time
Interesting, very interesting. I would like to interject a point if I may. When Goku and Gohan were in the time chamber before the Cell Games, they didn't stay in it for the full year. plus in the time between them coming out and the Cell Games starting Gohan celebrated his birthday. Also, Vegeta had mentioned that Saiyans don't really age until they hit around 80. This was so they could continue to fight longer. They keep their youthful appearance, so it could stand to reason than that for a Saiyan age might progress slower for them until that point.
For example, one human year might be three months for them.
Finally, Goku did mention that he did once use the time chamber before he took Gohan into it. Granted again he couldn't/didn't stay the full year, but it would slightly impact the final results. Unless you were rounding up of course.

@@danielgonzalez-vm5lj by that logic, you could say that I went to college for one month, stopped going for X amount of years, then went again for eleven months to equal a year. While it equals a year, it's not correct. Granted Popo did say that two days was the max (at the time) for anyone to be in there, Goku didn't even reach one one full day either time. Even with his statement of it can only be used twice (though, I'm sure Popo altered that between the cell games and Buu) it still effects things age wise to a point. Granted it's a moot point with the retcon of the DBS Broly movie.

I mean although the retcon messes a few things up it makes sense why it was made. Logically it makes now sense to send a newborn infant off to conquer a world by itself. Newborns of any species are basically completely defenseless and if left alone and exposed will most certainty die from either starvation, dehydration, eaten, injury, or illness. Even though it’s still hard to believe that a 3 year old would be able to live on its own, at least it’s better than an infant. This fact about saiyan childhood also explains why saiyans are known to be psychotic murderers. They have to be naturally aggressive if they are to survive on their own, but what follows is a childhood of isolation and gruesome genocide. Or for those not sent off they are forced into life or death combat once their able to walk, and then proceed to witness and commit mass genocide. Experiences like that as a child are bound to create serial killers. The perfect example of the opposite can be seen by Goku and Broly. Along with brain damage suppressing his aggression, Grampa Gohan was able to raise Goku to be a moral pure hearted person. For Broly it’s a little different, isolation does terrible things to the mind, so any type of company will do wonders. Just by having a parent there, despite being a bad one, resulted in Broly being a good person. Being sentimental for loved objects and showing grief over the loss of a loved one are emotions the were purposefully weeded out of saiyan society through forced child separation and child abuse.

Do Pan and Bra since in the end of Z (pre-BoG movie reton) and GT have Bra being born in Age 778 making Bra older than Pan.
And in Dragon Ball Super, Bra being born in Age 780, making Bra younger than Pan.
Pan is born in Age 779 by the way, so that's consistent.
I'm not saying I find Bra's age confusing, I just find it interesting that Bra was initially older than Pan by a year, but then modern Dragon Ball decided to flip it around and make Pan the older one of the two.

If you want to get weirder, from the moment Goku was revived by the Old Kai to when he entered the chamber with Vegeta, there was only a 12 year age gap between he and Gohan, with Gohan being 18 in Age 774 and Goku being 30, as well as Gohan being 22 in Age 779 and Goku being 35.

Honestly. Saiyans stay in their prime longer, so they look younger for longer periods of time. Goku has also been dead for just under 8 years straight, giving him a nice buffer

Goku did mention to Gohan that he went into the the room of spirit and time when he was younger but only spent a few months in there. Doesn’t really change much but does add some time back to his physical age. Does Whis staff have some weird time bend also? Both Goku and Vegeta train there.
Goku spent a few months in there with vegeta too. Before the U6 V U7 arc, goku and vegeta were in there for 3 years and 4 months. Then goku went in for another few months with Merus in the Moro arc to get Ultra Instinct. So that can easily make a full year

Piccolo was 3 years old by the time goku grew up at the end of dragon and 8 by the time z started and 9 by the time the saiyans came died for some time then during the time trunks shows up which was 2 years apparently he is 11ish by the time the androids show up he is 14 at the 21 during the 7 year time gap after cell 22 if u count the chamber then 10 between majin buu and end of z 31-32 these are rough estimates I don't follow their ages I just watch the program
First time we seen goku go into the room of spirit and time he came out and said he couldent go back in for another year because he almost reached his 2 year time limit on the room of spirit and time before the door dissapperared and he would be trapped in the room of spirit and time

It was less than one month not 3 months. Either way, that doesn't change things by a year so it's not a major change in the grand scheme of things

You forget the fact that the Super Saiyan God form had subtracted Goku's physical age back down to 16, which enlarges the gap between physical and calendar age.

Goku as kid grew up so fast. But ever since the frieza battle till now, goku seems to not aging at all. Imagine the many battles he went through. Even in his death.
Don't get me started on how Goku's Mental/Soul age would be, as that is different from his Calendar and his Physical due to the time-chamber.
I think you didn't take into account, that the end of Z is another timeline than Super. So you have to take the three time chamer years away. I'm also a little disappointed that you didn't cover GT. otherwise great video!

there is 3 age's for goku: calendar, spirit, physically. Calendar age is pretty much given, spirit age would be close to calendar age, then his physical age is mid-20's. Reason I say his physical age is so young is just how Saiyans age, Vegeta clearly stated that Saiyans stay in their physical prime (which for most is mid20's to early 30's) till they reach near the end of their natural lives. Something about being able to stay fighting fit for as long as possible. After all we all know Vegeta is in his 50's by the end of Super, but looks like he is around 30.

You forgot to mention Goku's first time going into the room of spirit and time in dragon ball when he started training under Kami and Popo.
Actually between Goku and Vegeta dieing and being revived, training in the time chambers, and the retcon that sayians physically age much slower and live longer to be fit for battle according to Vegeta, it kind of does make sense.

I want to see future trunks’ age, I’m sure it would be pretty complicated with all of the time he spent in the past and in the time chamber, I wonder what the difference between his physical and calendar age would be once he defeats the androids and cell in the future
Trunks calendar age would be about 33 during the Goku black arc. His physical would only be a year off.

@Carthu's Dojo I have a question, apologies if this was already answered. It has been debated on when Goku was sent off from Planet Vegeta with some friends of mine. How did you figure out the incubator stuff? The incubator always confused me a bit between Minus and Super Broly.
Goku doesn't spend the entire year in hyperbolic time chamber before cell. He comes out a little bit early. Remember how everyone on the lookout was surprised? Everyone was like wait it hasnt been a full day yet
I like how you say calendar age instead of mental age because. Really he never aged in that department too much.

Well he was raised on earth so namekian age isn't shown with dragon ball but 32 is a rough estimate is his age by the end of z
