    You should check out Emiology. She bought a toy frog sink for her rats to pea fish in. The best part is that the plastic faucet actually works! This video is excellent as usual. I now have more ideas for my own rats!

      Shes in another country so we cant get the same stuff sadly. :(
      My boys also do not pea fish well. They dump the water out and then steal all the peas. Little cheaters! Lol

      @@RatRandomness well my boys like to stick their [empty] balls (sorry I know you’re kid friendly) in their water dishes and sit like for minutes at a time! Plus I’m sure we have similar toys here in the U.S.

      I tried one at one point. They had a Barbie pool. They just plotted, knocked it over, and ran off with the peas! It was funny.
      Thankfully I had a towel down on the floor.
      And it's ok about balls. We talk about body parts in this house. ;)

      @@RatRandomness Well I’m glad I didn’t offend you at all. Even before they were neutered they had this habit of laying their rears in their water dish, but I prefer bowls to bottles only because they are better hydrated. Well, bummer about pea fishing. My kids have never tried pea fishing so I’m going to invest in a toy. 😊

    As far as the pumice Stones I don't know how good they are go to The butcher shop get a marrow bone cut about an inch and a half. Let the ratty the marrow out. Then you can put the peanut butter or my rack loves refried beans in the hole and they can play around getting it out and it loves to chew on the bone itself I can hear it all night long chewing away on the bone. So if you want to chew toy that's good for you and good for your rat also. Get some marrow bones to make marrow bone soup and share one with your rat

    • @RatRandomness
      @RatRandomness  Год назад

      Peanut butter is a major choking hazard. So wouldn’t recommend that.
      Bones are great enrichment. Pumice stones too but usually in the form of lava ledges. May rats have never cared about smaller ones like chinchillas or other critters seem to love

    4:40 I have this toy and it's pretty easy for them to figure out so I have to find really tough places to put it so it's more of a challenge. Might be good for elderly rats though :)

      ooh good to know! I have two younger than the others, but one older and one younger who are CHUNKY and need to be challenged. ;)

    Hey hey! So I was wondering where you could find all this stuff, idk if you linked some of them in the description or not but I find i’ve been having a hard time getting creative with layout and finding the right stuff for my rats. I always get something that I either can’t attach to the cage or is too big/small, and I’m pretty broke so I wanna make sure I’m getting cheap and usable items!!
    Loved this video and will be saving it for future reference when I check out my local dollar tree :))

      I have a amazon store front where i link things here:
      www.amazon.com/shop/ratrandomness/list/2UB8QNZ8XK3OH?ref_=cm_sw_r_apin_aipsflist_aipsfratrandomness_5SVRDQNWQ4GMM5KA2ZDV&language=en_US
      And a dollar tree shopping list here:
      docs.google.com/document/d/12RRdZaN1pO6gz7aqIdjaIs41X58iMgylI8s2uwKB6vk/edit
      I get nearly everything for my rats from dollar tree or a thrift store, or make it myself.
      Whwn i buy things i also check measurements. If a hammock is smaller than 11-12 inches its likely too small, ladders more narrow than 4 inches are usually too small too. Just some examples.
      For hanging things i have a whole video on that here:
      ruclips.net/video/qd9tJGbvjnE/видео.htmlsi=toEHBPe1-3THMC1E
      My personal favorite ways to fasten things to the cage is to use either pipe cleaners, lanyard hooks, or plastic shower rings. Or some combination of those items.

    HI ! I Love your channel, it's packed full of info & tips. And it's wonderful to know that you're in the same country, I can get some of the same things for my Babies! But best of all you show us how to make things for Our Babies! I was wondering if you could tell me How you made the popsicle stick ladder? I just really love everything you do. Please keep making videos! ❤️ Thank You!

      I drilled holes in each stick on both ends, then looped the twine through.
      I can make a tutorial video. But it wouldn’t be out till next month, since i film stuff and edit ahead of time. If thats no biggie I’d be happy to do it!

    What do you use for water? I use a water bowl but they put their toilet paper rolls and other stuff in them. My bars are the same so I wasn’t sure how to attach a water bottle to it

    • @RatRandomness
      @RatRandomness  10 месяцев назад

      I use a water bottle and spring clips to hold them in place:

      Theres the links to both.

    do you have any ideas on what i can do for foraging for a hairless rat since i would be using newspapers

    • @RatRandomness
      @RatRandomness  Год назад +1

      Hairless rats should be on bedding just like furred rats. But they can use foraging toys as well.
      The only difference is less/no hair.
      I have had werewolves which are mostly hairless so speaking from experience.
      Newspaper isn’t a proper substrate/bedding as it doesn’t absorb or help ammonia dissipate into the air. Its just as bad as carefresh or other paper beddings.
      I have a video on the best beddings for rats here:

    What enclosure do you use for your rats?

    • @RatRandomness
      @RatRandomness  Год назад

      I think the majority of this video is a critter nation by midwest. There may be a bin cage or guinea pig cage in there as well. Im not sure.
      Currently i use a 50 gallon bin cage. Theres a video explaining that here:

    Do you let them forage for all of their food, or do you put food in a dish as well?

    • @RatRandomness
      @RatRandomness  2 года назад +2

      They forage for all of it. And theres never leftovers so long as i dont overfeed.
      I also use foraging toys, so split the food between those and the cage floor.
      I keep bowls for treat items like chicken, fruits or veggies. Since they tend to be more messy. ;)
