Bravo - We men today are very fortunate indeed. I've picked up a wide range for pennies on the dollar - - Brioni, Canali, Corneliani, Coppley, Hickey Freeman, Oxxford, Samuelsohn, and Zegna With a good tailor adjusting the sides and sleeves only - and sometimes pants length and waist/seat - ...all fit and look like made-to-measure suits, blazers and sport coats.
I have started buying clothes from eBay over the past year and a half or so. In that time I’ve bought: a pair of Oxford shoes from Hartt (a Canadian brand), a Brook Brothers blazer, a Harris tweed jacket, a trench coat, a Bulova dress watch, and a knit tie. I’m very happy with all my purchases.
Exactly one week ago, I was wearing an Ebay blue OCBD, an Ebay navy silk knit tie, an Ebay silk pocket square, Ebay gray flannels, Ebay black penny loafers, and an Ebay diver on an Ebay NATO strap.
I just bought an at least 45 year old brown herringbone tweed sportcoat with working cuff buttons for $125. I have no idea what it would have cost back then and now. It was claimed to be not worn and it looks like that is true. It was purchased by a gentleman from Fioravanti New York in presumably October 1979 based on the handwritten label on the inside of the inner breast pocket. It fits me almost perfectly and I don't need any alteration. Needless to say, something like this would be nearly impossible to purchase without eBay.
I pretty much never buy new formal clothes since watching the gentleman's gazette video on eBay years ago. You can get so much better quality for the same money when buying used, and there's way more variety online vs. physical thrift stores.
@@danelisslow3269 Raphael is also the one who inspired me to start shopping on eBay. When he showed me round his closet (which is bigger than most apartments) he said the vast majority of it was thrifted
Here in Europe I find Vinted seach tool more efficient and practical. It’s true eBay has a lot of choice but it takes really a lot of time to find an interesting garment. I use eBay however for many other things that are not clothing.
James, I whole heartedly agree that ebay is a goldmine. Besides finding some great pieces at affordable prices, I actually find that the "hunt" is fun. I recently bought several vintage Ralph Lauren, Ferragamo, Brooks Brothers ties (maybe we are bidding against each other with the R.L.ties? ) and a fantastic Brooks Brothers navy double breasted wool Blazer with great gold buttons. Etsy and Mercari are also great places to look for the occasional deal. I'll have to post some pictures of some of these on the site.
80% of my wardrobe is from EBay. I’ve had great luck with the condition, quality and speed of delivery with the items I’ve purchased. I love finding older, American or U.K. made clothing at a substantial discount.
I have purchased a few different items off ebay! I bought two vintage shirts ,one even in its dry cleaning packaging from the late 30s or 40s, the other was a vintage brooks brothers evening shirt with a marcella bib. I bought a set of shirt studs and cuflinks in their originally box too! I also bought a stunning green rep tie with a red, navy, and pale yellow stripe. I am currently waiting for a casual jacket from ebay that i bought earlier this week too!
I’ve been buying sport coats and ties on eBay for the last month or so and found some great deals. A local tailor worked magic and made the too-large jackets fit perfectly.
First off, I always enjoy your content. Yes, I use Salvation Army Ebay and thrift stores, It is amazing what people in America donate.Throw away or sell for a 1/10 of the price , And my wardrobe usually consists of ralph lauren brooks brothers And armani.
Great video, found a similar video you did a while back. Now i have 3 wool brooks brothers suits for around $150 total. Paired with some nice allen edmonds loafers and toe cap oxfords. Including tailoring ill be in it for around $500. Looking great is doable thanks to your platform. Keep up the great work and helping others dress better!
Nothing to advise youngsters on being a gentleman. But, be aware that "NOS" [new old stock] can be added to your eBay search terms. I've only bought "hard goods" on eBay. But "like new", pristine, "never used", are key words to input or check for in the description. It's not just rocks glasses, and hunting knives that can be found like new or as new old stock. And clothing items are prob not considered collectibles, unlike guitars, or motorcycles; so you are ahead there. Happy hunting boys.
The only thing I buy brand new nowadays are socks, but ties, shirts, shoes, suits, hats, etc I either thrift or get on eBay. I love buying used because of the variety/rarity/value of stuff
Absolutely correct about Ebay. The really high end stuff is likely to be in very good condition as the original owner probably had a closet full. I have purchased a good amount on Ebay, but my best single purchase was a double breasted Ermenegildo Zegna jacket in perfect condition, that came out of their Swiss location (their better location) and also had the Saks Fifth Ave tag. No doubt a $3,000 (maybe more) jacket new with me paying $150...with I think $100 sleeve alterations, so $250. Btw.... the suit looks great on you!
I also have purchased shoes and boots (had some resoling done) and shirts. I recommend staying away from China. A lot of credit card fraud and poor quality goods.
What does the "R" stand for with suit sizing? You mentioned shoulder width, but when I Googled "Ralph Lauren suit, size 42R" (from the UK), one of the top results was John Lewis, and their size chart seemed to indicate that it was referring to the chest size. Very confusing.
I have to strongly disagree with you here! eBay is full of counterfeit and cheap products. I wanted to buy a set of BMW motorcycle leathers. All I found was imitations selling at just $300 when the real thing costs 6 times as much.
On eBay, I recommend avoiding 'new' items and only buying genuine, worn items. BMW motorcycle leathers sounds like something that would be widely imitated to scam people.

Ebay is also a great platform for men's fragrance - especially vintage ones. Accessories too. James is right, as usual. He understands women's tastes.
hoping their not counterfeit

0:11 even better than that. As a reseller, I know some items, even from brands like dior and YSL, can go for as low as 1-5% retail.

Never thought about changing buttons. Brilliant idea. I could use some different cuff links as well. Thanks James.

I'm an Ebay seller thank you for the shout out.
Other accessories such as suspenders, belts or umbrellas can also be worth getting through Ebay.

Never buy used but ties!
Most of my clothing is slightly used, good quality items I’ve found on EBay.
I bought a Harris tweed sportcoat and a Brooks Brothers overcoat between 120-150 each. Massively good deals!
I can't believe I used to buy ties at retail. You could literally buy 100s of them for the price of one at full retail.
ive gotten 2 indochino suits for 75 about 32.50 each plus 20 in dry cleaning that's about 42.50 each on ebay once
I personally also like estate sales. I’ve gotten suits for 10$ a piece
Could you do a video about how university students should/could dress as gentlemen?
Absolutely correct about Ebay.

Sounds like an absolute steal. And thank you!
James, FYI the 'c' in Montblanc is silent otherwise good pronunciation. BTW ties are a real bargain on eBait, well done.
I’ve never shopped on ebay but I might start now.
I love EBay. I hate shopping but I don’t mind spending an hour looking for something slightly used for a great price.
good to see another banger keep it up!
this was a very informative video maybe one of the best videos you ever made!
I'd also suggest pocket squares
This was a great video
I'm surprised you didn't mention shoes and boots. I have found many bargains over the last few years.
Interesting. I will certainly give this a shot. Thanks.
Ty gent Z I'm becoming more and more better at dressing well
I bought a pair of authentic Givenchy cufflinks on eBay for only $100, if I had bought them new from Givenchy, they would've cost close to $400
But seriously, I love your videos! Keep it up.
Very good recommendation.
For the garment prices that many eBay shops charge and the associated shipping costs it's often not worth it.
We are back babyy
I bought charles tyrwhitt shirt for 12$ look same as new
Gent Z, you are far better clothed than our Prime Minister (even when he has normal socks instead of silly socks.)
Love your channel! subscriber here. Can you make a video of what brands provide quality suits? Ermenegildo Zegna, etc. Thank you.
Who doesn't like a "list" video? 😉

42 is the chest size and the R refers to the length. In this case R being regular. S is short and L is long.
@@thewholecut thanks!

You were born in Alabama? I’d be interested to hear more about that
James, you have the most British sounding southern accent considering you were born in Alabama ;)
Birth state of Alabama? I didn’t see that coming.
why? shipping is overpriced i source locally maybe not as quantity wise possibility of knockoffs and thoes ties picked up for 3.99 lol locally
16 seconds and 4 views? Gent Z really fell off 😞.
The videos have basically become just a way of advertising his subscription channels
Should he create these videos purely for your viewing pleasure and not be reimbursed for his time and expertise?
@@TheChaz96 I never said that
Just don’t make it too obvious that he’s just promoting his paid channel, looks very desperate
u guys complaining and watching the video at the same time..... fucking beautiful
@ no I didn’t see the video, just came here to hate
