      Anyone with symptoms of mental health should check out the Andrew Cutler protocol. Google «andy cutler rebecca rust lee» for a great article explaining the protocol, and search for the success stories, and «what not to do» as there are things that you might be taking that is hurting you, like cilantro and chlorella. I am thankful Bill has been so open with anxiety. I wrestle with it every single minute of every day. Which is quite a feat in retail jobs. After that video I have been able to make giant strides in addressing personal issues and how to overcome them. I am very much like Bill, I watch movies and I am in my own world. Hearing him say all this has helped me a lot. Thank you, Bill. Even though I'm sure you'll never read this. I'm a hermit. I hang out comfortably in silence. I live with my girlfriend. But the anxiety is always something that is familiar and never leaves.

  • @NatalieMarie917
    @NatalieMarie917 5 лет назад +1

    I think it’s so great that he’s talking about this and bringing awareness to the fact that anxiety doesn’t always present in the ways you might think.
    I don’t think I truly realized I had anxiety until I was about 20, even though I’ve had it my whole life. And I only learned this because I was a Psych major (and now have a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling).
    I used to get such horrible stomach aches in the evenings or at night when I was 8 or 9 years old, and I wish my doctor/parents would have known to tell me it’s a symptom of anxiety, rather than saying “it’s all in your head” (which I took to mean that I was just imagining it). I also had a lot of nightmares as a kid and worried that I was going to fall deathly ill in the middle of the night and no one would be there to save me (or that no one would believe I was truly ill). Those were just my earliest signs that I can remember, aside from being labeled as “slow to warm up” to people/things.

    Mental health does not get enough attention publicly but even when it does it seems as though anxiety is left out of it. This is something I've been struggling with since I was a child and now that I'm a parent affects my children significantly. People generally do not realize how debilitating this is in can be and a lot of time gets labeled as just lazy. That's awesome that he's bringing more awareness to this.

    I remember watching It: Chapter and feeling like there were definitely underlying themes that were at play. A lot of times authors take concepts/issues and creatively disguise them as stories, but strip away the clown makeup and all you see is a group of adults who hadn’t necessarily healed from childhood drama and so 27 years later they had to revisit it, un-suppress, and overcome it for the NEXT generation.

    Love that Bill mentioned how his anxiety presents itself. It’s not cookie cutter. It’s different for everyone and it evolves over time. My anxiety has many forms from IBS to violent full body convulsions to picking at my skin till I bleed. I had to spell this out to my brother who was only looking at one symptom and it was the wrong one. I had to show him what to look for when I’m having an episode. I don’t think he was prepared to see what kind of damage I can do to my skin without realizing I’m doing it. And then he heard my roommate, “Hey! That looks better! You must be feeling better! You’re skin is healing!” “That’s better!!!? Ow!!!” Lol I think a lot of people would be surprised at all the different ways anxiety can present itself.

    My two favorite people to search on youtube to calm my own stress/anxiety are Bill Hader and James Acaster. So it's interesting that they've both been talking openly about anxiety and (in James' case) suicidal thoughts recently. One really great interview with James (insane in the menbrain podcast) gets to the heart of it. Once a teacher told him that being nervous before going on stage was the same as being excited. So he never really identified what he feels as anxiety until fairly recently (for those who don't know he's a UK standup comedian, so he's on stage a lot - check him out on Netflix). But the simple act of just being able to identify what you're really feeling can already begin to help.

    Anxiety is a real disorder and can most definitely manifest itself physically. I went to the ER twice with heart palpitations thinking I was going to die in my 20s. Never really knew I had anxiety before, never really understood the disorder. Multiple tests/cardiologist visits latter, my heart was fine, the issue was that I was having panic attacks, something Bill Hader had himself while on SNL. I got help with therapy, and for me SSRI medication significantly helped me with few side affects (it's not the same for everyone). If you think you may have an anxiety disorder, I'd encourage you to go see a medical professional.

    That video about Bill Hader talking about anxiety has been out some time before it got viral. I was searching for an answer, anything that could make me feel better about my anxiety. I was so glad that the comfort I have found is from my favorite cast in SNL.
    Thank you, Bill Hader. You deserve everything for being such a talented and inspiring human!

    I actually started therapy after hearing Bill Hader talk about his anxiety being like a kind of creature he has to look at with compassion, and after watching Neal Brennan's 3 Mics where he's so open about his abusive father and mental health issues.

    I thought the movie was not super entertaining, but it was an AMAZING analogy for how past trauma can inform your life choices and the narratives that we choose to fall into as we go about our lives. That was super deep for me.
