Yesterday my friend invited me to see a dealership that sells big bikes. I finally get to see Suzuki's GSX S1000 for the first time infront of me. I was so happy and here you are posting a video riding the bike in RAW sound with an Akrapovic exhaust. Thank you Schaaf.
I'm just getting into my own, I've only had it for two days, but I bought it after a day of test riding the demo. It's a killer bike in every way! Although it wasn't that important to me, it's really good looking and to appreciate it, you have to see the bike live, photos don't do it justice. I personally found the matte grey color to be the most attractive, but of course, that's a matter of taste. I was convinced to order it because of its lightness (in feeling, because objectively it's not the lightest in its class), the engine, which, in addition to its beautiful history, is still unmatched by the competition in terms of performance, power delivery, reliability, predictability, and sound. Such engines will no longer be produced. Amazing power, eagerness to ride, straight, in turns, whatever the rider imagines, it will happen! The riding position is a successful compromise, providing enjoyment and technical capabilities for those who want to ride dynamically and those who want to comfortably explore nearby towns (although there is no exaggeration with tourism either, due to the lack of a windshield and the high, retracted legs). For me, another huge plus is that the bike doesn't heat up the handlebars, which is a problem on many motorcycles. I, for example, considered buying a Ducati Street V2 and the way they gave off heat to the rider was unacceptable. The suspension in the factory setting is rather for dynamic/sport riding (not hardcore), but if it's not your thing - you have plenty of adjustment options to find your own setting. The brakes, in addition to being very efficient, are also very controllable - full control in any conditions. I don't expect anything more. The gem in the standard equipment setup is the top-notch quickshifter, which works phenomenally in practically every rpm range, of course, up and down, and we get it without any extra charge. The cherry on top is the exhaust - it sounds and looks fantastic, it can make pleasant pops, sound bassy, and it doesn't tire you out, despite the ridiculous EURO(5) regulations. And it looks good! It doesn't require replacement at all. As for the downsides - the display is not very clear, but it helps a little to increase the brightness settings to max, the standard setting is low. I would also pay more attention to the rather hard seat in the long run - consider something accessory. I also don't like the "short" clutch, especially in the new one, in the demo with a mileage of about 5k km, it wasn't so noticeable. Vibrations - practically throughout the range, more or less, not like those from a 1 or 2 cylinder bike, but they could be a little less. Tires (Dunlop Roadsport2) - after two days, it's hard to say for sure, because I'm still breaking them in, but I suspect that we won't get along well after losing traction on a decent straight. I ride, I observe. That's probably all for today, I'll ride more and say more.
How is your experience with the tyres and everything after one year? I'm also eyeballing this model (as an upgrade from the gsx-s750) and curious how you liked it ever since!
@@Nollpeter1 I have the 2023 model and my subjective experience is that Roadsport2s are good tires, they dont last too long but I've never had problems with traction (even in low temperatures, they heat up relatively fast). After using them up I switched to Michelin Road 5s and those are amazing, really cant recommend them enough. I liked the stock suspension but I ended up upgrading to Ohlins rear shock and Marzocchi front cartridge which was costly (almost 2k euro) but it was completely worth it. Thats not to say that the stock suspension is bad, it really isnt, but the upgraded one is just much better :D The bike itself is quite big which is one of the reasons I went for it, I'm tall (6'4") and most nakeds I rode felt small. The rest of the bike is excellent, I really can't think of anything bad to say about it (except the hideous stock exhaust tip, but thats subjective and really easy to replace) . The only bike that I rode (and I rode all of the liter+ nakeds available in Czechia) that I would consider selling GSX for is the 1290/1390 Super Duke, but the Duke is in completely different league with its pricing and the difference between them is not as big as the price difference might suggest :D MT10SP is also great. All in all, definitely go for it, you wont be disappointed
Not gonna lie - the new 2020s and up lineup from Suzuki have been stellar. Not saying they weren't before - but they've really ramped up their bikes appeal to be as competitive as others.
I was helping my local Suzuki dealer last summer during the Suzuki event when you can try there bikes as the leader on every ride. I was able to try them all unsupervise 😆YES! It was the Hayabusa, the M109R, the GSX S750 and the GSX S1000. I now have the 2023 GSX S1000 on order and getting the same slip on Akrapovic you see in this video. Should be fun.
Maybe the best and most accurate impression of this bike on YT. And I have seen them all, because I bought it. The gearing is great if you do not want to shift all the time. Sound with the stock exhaust is very good, no need for Akrapovic. But the star of this bike is the fascinating engine. Can do everything and has a thrilling top end above 9000 rpm. Acceleration in 3rd gear from 100 to 200 kmh was 5,4s (GPS).
@@kevinh.4602 No, i was starting in 3rd. Had to shift up at about 170 kmh. Not sure if I needed 5th. Cant read the GPS speeds while being at 11k rpm and shifting😆 It is a free app but the 5,4s seem realistic from what I have seen on YT so far.
The bike sounds and looks ace, especially in this livery. Now Suzuki needs to update the 750 version in the same vein and chuck in a cruise control while they are at it. Awesome video as always!
I own a 2023 model gsx s1000, I ran about 7 thousand km with it, what you said is very true, it has very little to complain about. The engine block is almost perfect, proven and torque richTransmission chassis, these are classic Suzuki and cannot be complained about, the quality of the materials is quite good, it gives you a lot for its price, only the electronic toys are missing..
@schaaf I’ll never understand how you make riding look like such an art. Hopefully if I keep practicing I’ll be this quick with this amount of control. Love your videos!
It's been a while since I've seen a Suzuki in your channel. This one seems and sounds mean! Slow pace sounds good too. The livery is dope af! Love it! 6:20 That was scary 😳
This is serious bang for the buck. Definitely too much for me to live with but I'd love to get some saddle time and feel the power. My cb599 is still #1 for me ❤️
Steering damper is a must on these short of a rear shock upgrade no matter how many suspension tweaks, its 1 of the 1st mods I purchased, smooth as glass after that. Great video as always but I think you were a little easy on her she's got way more power hidden in her than she gets cred for. Stay safe
Very nice bike, i have this exact model too (blue livery). Got to be honest, the Akrapovic doesnt sound any different from the stock exhaust. This bike has a huge catalytic converter box underneath it. Suzuki went all-out with the airbox design, thats why it sounds so good.
Yea like most modern bikes the slip on can't change anything because of the gigantic pre-silencers installed. I'd say a slip-on on a bike like that is a waste of money actually
Sounds great ! I always preferred a quieter but deeper note. I currently have a 2005 Busa with a full Lextek header and Yosh slip ons and she sounds deep and mellow but does wail when I give her the beans.
From my experience of this bike, nearly as long as yours, I totally agree with your thoughts. Great bike for the road, well equiped for the price, enough electronic to be proposed for sale in 2022 listening the salers (already way too much for me). The one and only negative point being the transmission way too long, first gear going to almost 120km/h if I recall correctly. It kills a big part of the fun that the engine could give. Really great bike at the end of the day.
Not enough to replace my old 1999 bandit 1200 "ajusted" tho' The spirit of both bikes is actually pretty similar jumping from one to another on the same road
First is kind of long… not longer than most other nakeds, but the gear box is wonderfully spaced. Suzuki always fear their bikes nicely imo. Try a CB1000 if you want to see long gearing.
Holy head shake, that was definitely a scary moment there, if that bike doesn't come with a steering damper I would definitely add one. And the big question, which did you like better, this or the MT-10?
I meannn, no, not really. On the scary moment part. There are a variety of reasons why you get head shake. Some bikes are very prone to that. A steering damper won't eliminate headshake, it'll just mask a potential problem. It is very good when the front wheel gets light in a powerwheelie or when the front wheel gets deflected off a bump at very high speed. But in this case the shift helped destabilize the chasis during the headshake. Damper would be very good addiction though, don't believe these come with one? Also for your question ,although it was not meant for me, the mt10 engine is more fun I believe. But keep in mind this is more of a "sensible" bike. 19L tank vs 17, and less "thirsty" than an MT10. I for one have also seen a decent number of people transition from an MT10 to a S1000R or XR with better results overall.
@@ThaSideWeed neither on this nor on the katana it's mentioned that it has one. And tbh if it is that low on rider aids I would have expexted them to put some mechanical rider aid like that on. Thanks for posting this great ride and review video Schaaf! Are the quickshifter and auto blipper really very smooth? Are all the gears very tall or just the first 2? I wonder if a sprocket change would improve the tall gearing?
Great video as always, but shame that you are not recording in 60fps, 30 looks laggy to me. A few of your videos were in 60fps and they were sooo pleasurable to watch even if they were in lower quality. Cheers
Sounds take next to mine. I got a custom 4 into 1 exhaust basically a drag pipe pops out right behind the foot peg no cats or anything it screams sounds amazing down low pops and bangs a little! I have a power commander and KN air filter.
Yo man, awesome video, thanks so much 😃My bike is a 2022 GXS-S1000 in blue, and has an Akropovic slip on, among many other small modifications. I agree with you about soft suspension and tall gearing. I adjusted the factory rear preload setting from 3 to 5 (Out of 1-7) and changed the gearing. Rear sprocket change from 44 to 45 teeth. No big adjustments but this bike does kick ass! With its lower price, It leaves plenty of room for modifications. Its a motorcycle you can grow in to 🙂
Hey man, how was the sprocket change? I'm also thinking of doing this since I can't use the immense max speed of this bike in real world so I want to trade it for some more acceleration. Did you only change the rear sprocket or the front one also? Did you have to change the chain? How is the result? Thanks!
Goddammit Schaaf, that was really fast. Meanwhile the sound of the aggresive mode causes some kind of stress in me, especially of a 4 cylinder. Thats why i prefer 2cylinders and the more touristic style. Of course i am by far not that fast as you are. But i´m "old" so i don´t give af ;-) Anyway nice Video Schaaf. As always!
Schaff ur favourite is mt 10 u told in previous video but looking at this gsx s1000 I want to say it's not a bad Choice to go for it in terms of MRP and maintenance charges it's an affordable naked sports with sharp design and ergonomics it is a fantastic motorcycle.
From an mt10 owner, price wise it's pretty clear what my next choice will be. He mentions the gearing in this video I'd rather it be longer gearing anyway, I know naked have shorter gears buy if it was up to me I'd literally just have the same gearing and engine as a supersport. Similar to what the m1000r is like
Danke!! Lektion gelernt ;)
WOW!!!! Love your videos man, just found your channel and I lOVE IT! Could you help me with deciding witch bike to buy, GSX S1000 or Z900? Love the looks os GSX but what bike would you buy for traveling, occasional fast riding in twistis (but I am lower skilled then you :D) and straight acceleration, Thank you!!
Whichever looks better to you. Those two are rather similar when it comes to their capabilities. Both offer a great compromise between comfort and sportiness
Heyo! New comment on an old video! I've been watching your content for sometime of course, and I really appreacite it! You show alot of skill and you make things look very easy :) As I can see from the camera POV and your reflection fromt eh tank, you're not moving your body at all when you're cornerig tight right? You're keeping a neutral body position. Is that correct?
Superb! Thanks friend! I'll keep it in mind and will try to gently and slowly reach a more confident level when cornering! 🌷 Cheers from my and my Bandit 650 from 2005, Xena!

@@Schaaf yeah but why ? I'm currently able to buy one or the others, I'm really attracted to the GSX, but the mt10 is a superior bike it seems for barely more money. Would you say it would be foolish to go for the GSX instead of the mt10 ? Are they that far apart ?
@@tempofugo168 The MT10 has more HP, a crossplane engine (a lot of people like them, I'm personally not a fan of the sound), and more advanced features. If the MT10 costs "barely more" than the GSX-S1000, I would go for the MT10. Where I live, there are many thousands of dollars difference in price, so it was a no brainer for me. @@k1mura92 hey thanks for your answer. I've picked the GSX S1000. It was more than 3000 less expensive and there is the fuel (MT10 drink a lot of fuel). I don't know why but the gsx s1000 also gave me a better impression overall and sounds very nice.

easily, 2500€ less baseprice, probably way more durable if bmw hasnt changed their level of quality, not to think about serviceprices xD , two way quickshift included at the suzi , and all the fancy stuff is extramoney at the bmw , as usual. I would rather invest the saved money in the gsx in exhaust and dynotuning and get even more power then the bmw, and i guess theres enough money left for a new helmet, leather and a couple of tires and fuel

Wobble. Happens when the front gets too light during acceleration and uneven grip causes the bike to unsettle. You can prevent it by getting a steering damper

Great video as always, but shame that you are not recording in 60fps, 30 looks laggy to me. A few of your videos were in 60fps and they were sooo pleasurable to watch even if they were in lower quality. Cheers
I prefer 30 fps but thanks for the feedback
Top Sound 👍👍👍
Its a motorcycle you can grow in to 🙂
nice!
Hey man, how was the sprocket change? I'm also thinking of doing this since I can't use the immense max speed of this bike in real world so I want to trade it for some more acceleration. Did you only change the rear sprocket or the front one also? Did you have to change the chain? How is the result? Thanks!
Love this bike. What do you prefer, this or yamaha SXR 900?
Great bike, one that I would consider in case of changing my old ZX10R.
Would love to see new MT-09 thoughts with this!
As always!
Genau so erwarte ich mir ein Motorradvideo 😎👍
Danke!
Did the absence of a steering stabilizer scare you? Bike looked stable at high speeds!
6:19 things just about got reeeeaal exciting.
ok
That wobble on hard acceleration looks dangerous but also very fun. I'm selling my bike to get this one for sure.
It doesn't happen when you lean forward during acceleration. I just wanted to add a bit of artificial drama
First off all there is nothing like the scream of of a 4cylinder,do I detect a slight instability during high speed acceleration?
Yes absolutely
Finally, it's here! Between the thruxtons and the Suzuki's, which engine/bike did you prefer?
not a just comparison. The Thruxton is made for delivering low down punch while the Suzuki is designed with top end power in mind.
@@Schaaf Thanks for the info! I'm torn between what I want in a bike, and besides the styling, I've had both types of engine performance too!
Late reply but my dad owned a lot of speed triples but his favourite triumph is the thruxton
Sounds nice!
sound really good bro!
Thanks
Schaff ur favourite is mt 10 u told in previous video but looking at this gsx s1000 I want to say it's not a bad Choice to go for it in terms of MRP and maintenance charges it's an affordable naked sports with sharp design and ergonomics it is a fantastic motorcycle.
More videos of this bike please!!
From an mt10 owner, price wise it's pretty clear what my next choice will be. He mentions the gearing in this video I'd rather it be longer gearing anyway, I know naked have shorter gears buy if it was up to me I'd literally just have the same gearing and engine as a supersport. Similar to what the m1000r is like
The engine competes with the supernakeds, but the price competes more with the xsr900 or mt09. How does it feel compared to them?
Is that the ABS I hear kicking in coming into the turns? If so, does it feel like it's a little excessive?
Nope
Good looking motorcycle! Great video!
Klingt gut! Aber der beinahe Slapper bei 6:20! Jeebuz...
Lektion gelernt ;)
In this bike I wouldn't dare turn TC off 😬
As always, great ride Schaaf!!!
thanks
Why ?
@@tempofugo168 Because my skills are limited.
WOW!!!! Love your videos man, just found your channel and I lOVE IT!
Could you help me with deciding witch bike to buy, GSX S1000 or Z900?
Love the looks os GSX but what bike would you buy for traveling, occasional fast riding in twistis (but I am lower skilled then you :D) and straight acceleration,
Thank you!!
It would help me so much if you anwserd. tnx
Whichever looks better to you. Those two are rather similar when it comes to their capabilities. Both offer a great compromise between comfort and sportiness
@@Schaaf Thank you so much, gsx-s1000 it is :D
Heyo!
New comment on an old video!
I've been watching your content for sometime of course, and I really appreacite it!
You show alot of skill and you make things look very easy :)
As I can see from the camera POV and your reflection fromt eh tank, you're not moving your body at all when you're cornerig tight right?
You're keeping a neutral body position. Is that correct?
Thanks!! That is very correct.
Superb! Thanks friend! I'll keep it in mind and will try to gently and slowly reach a more confident level when cornering! 🌷 Cheers from my and my Bandit 650 from 2005, Xena!
I would love to know where they got that wrap/decal set from. Looks awesome.
Great video, as always!
It's the 'cert' edition I believe.
Cool ass bike, i bought a gsxs 750 in 2017, got a great price. The 1000 is the shit! I'm 68 and ride european and japanese bikes ! Will keep the 750 and get something else, never too many bikes in the shed! Ride on!
Awesome!
Sick bike
thanks
My bike 💙
awesome!
Nice bike !
Is this only the silencer akra or full exhaust decat? Thanks, very nice video, love it 😍
Akra slip-on only. Cat still in place.
Can you do a RAW video for a triumph bonneville t120!

OMG! Where are your riding? I like those nice winding streets!!!!
Waiting for the Z900RS SE ridden by Master Schaaf! hopefully soon...
What do you make of the auto blipper (down shift). I just got the 2024 and it's so good going up but leaves abit to be desired going back down for me.
Wunderbar!!
Danke!
Beautifull riding as always! Would really love to see you ride a 2021 MT-09 SP! Hope its in your plans for a future video, ride safe ✌️
Good luck, man!
thanks
Yikes, looks like that bike could benefit from a steering dampener if you're a more aggressive rider.
It sure does need one! 🤣
dodge demon sound ahahaha niceeee man
06:20 that was close to get bad...
which is better compared to ninja 1000sx?
Very nice riding as always. For street riding and commuting what bike would you pick ? Gsxs1000 or the mt10 ?
Always the MT10
At around equal price, the MT10 is the superior bike.
@@k1mura92 hey thanks for your answer. I've picked the GSX S1000. It was more than 3000 less expensive and there is the fuel (MT10 drink a lot of fuel). I don't know why but the gsx s1000 also gave me a better impression overall and sounds very nice.
tbh thats all airbox induction noise u hear, slipon on this bike is the same as stock
true
Does it have any issues with downshift? Sounds like its stuck on something when downshifting.
thats the abs
QS works well
Amazing video as always schaaf😍! And how do you always nail your gopro settings?? when I do my videos I always have trouble even if I stick to your instructions. Thanks again for your amazing work 🤟🏻🤟🏻!
Auto settings rule ;)
Really good, do you think that she can revalized with the new S1000R ?
good joke
@@eddilong Why it's a joke, i test both and the gap is not so big...
easily, 2500€ less baseprice, probably way more durable if bmw hasnt changed their level of quality, not to think about serviceprices xD , two way quickshift included at the suzi , and all the fancy stuff is extramoney at the bmw , as usual. I would rather invest the saved money in the gsx in exhaust and dynotuning and get even more power then the bmw, and i guess theres enough money left for a new helmet, leather and a couple of tires and fuel
@@GeschichtsBlitz I've got the new GSX-S 1000 and i test the new S1000R, i put an EMC S2X rear shock on my GSX-S and i think i've nearly got the same chassis in dynamic pro as the S1000R but i'haven't got semi-active suspension.
@@GeschichtsBlitz also, there's smth honest about the suzi, much more then the aristocratic bmw
Nice bike..looks like it can get you into more trouble than the Z900.
Absolutely
6:20 😳😱 what happened?
Pulled to hard on the bars while accelerating. Front gets light from the acceleration and loses grip, and his pulling causes it to wiggle around.
Wobble. Happens when the front gets too light during acceleration and uneven grip causes the bike to unsettle. You can prevent it by getting a steering damper
I wanted to play a game and the Suzuki immediately accepted my invitation ;)
@@Schaaf Wow, it looked pretty scary... last time I witnessed this was 25 years ago on my old gsx-r 750
I like all the new electronics the 1000 has plus slipper clutch. I has a blue 2016 n The old gen is for me. I just got the 750 cuz I like that look. O yea thanks, you did a review on the GSX-S750 n bro u killed it. Nice work, most don’t lean as far as u. Good job, cuz that’s what I try to do around 🇺🇸🐉here🐉🇺🇸, 10 years flawless victory, n I’m going again right now. ✌🏼
Awesome! Thanks for the comment
What Akrapovic slip on is this? Thanks
Brilliant bike get mine on Tuesday
Congrats!!
Damn, i want one now... But the question is, would you buy one?
I would if I could afford one
Schöne Linie!
Which one do you think better in twisty roads gsxs 1000 or 750?
Same
👍👍👍
Thanks
Nice one...would like to know uour thougts on the GT and compare it to the kawa SX!
Maybe when I get to make a video with the GT :)
which bike do you like more? this one or the yamaha mt10?
MT-10
Excuse my ignorance, is the trembling on braking caused by losing traction due to downshifting or by ABS / TC?
Due to downshifting. I wasn't braking hard enough for ABS to kick in
This bike doesnt wheelie by giving it full gas? Or is it just a anti wheeling thing that you need to turn off?
It power wheelies with TC off or on 1 with cut to wide open throttle at around 30mph (5k rpm+) in first. But since its inline 4 you're not gonna power wheelie in mid low/mid range.
