- For all you campers and paddlers that never take the time to learn the proper knots for a good tarp setup, this video is for you. I show you how easy, dry and tangle free life can be if you just use bungee and S carabiners to rig your tarp!
Hope this video helps you out!
I was trying to learn but I am so fascinated by the dog eating the leaves in the intro hah!
Lol she’s a lab and just a puppy back then so she tried to eat just about everything. Still does some days lol.
The use of bungee is underated by the bushcraft community , they are very useful for absorbing energy from the wind when nature goes wild. I still use paracord but put a small bungee at the end of each corner . Thanks for sharing
That’s a great idea! Probably saves a bit of weight and keeps things a bit safer!
Since l started using bungee cords when setting up tarps, l noticed that setup is quicker and that less corners are torn out on my tarps.
Yup, some of the main reasons I do it as well. Setup is quicker and it relieves some of the stress on the tarp during wind gusts. Might not give you a perfect looking setup like rope does but it keeps you dry and that’s all that matters!!
This is perfect ! Thanks so much ! This will make my camping experience so much easier and less stressful!
You’re very welcome! Glad to help you out!
I think this is great rather than messing about with 550 for everything!
I only use small tarps for bike packing, something I can deploy quickly in bad weather. I use bungee on all the tie out points, perfect torsion every time, and when the wind picks up, the tarp moves about with very little stress! ✌️
@@mokotramp those are the main reason I love this tarp rigging. A rope ridge line helps in strong winds but for a quick deployment and ease of use, bungees work every time.
@@ryansroutes1805 Also, on the tie outs I use enough cord so I can double it up if the wind gets stronger, stops the cord over stretching as I'm only using 5mm.
@@mokotramp I do the same whenever possible. I also keep a couple extra lengths attached to the tarp so that I can had to the length of other tie outs if needed.
@@ryansroutes1805 Who needs fancy knots and 550 when you have bungee and biners? 🤣
@@mokotramp exactly! When it starts pouring I just want something up quick and easy to keep me dry!
Great video. Keeping it simple, I love it. 👍👍
Thanks! I’m glad you liked it!
Very versatile the paddle for height or rock to hold down without any other adjustment.
Thanks! Since the bungees self adjust you can just move the paddle in a couple of seconds to suit a change in wind direction etc. It’s great for that!
I used bungies until I got hit in the face with one. 😂
Ur d a
Love the dog😅
Thank you sir! She’s something else lol
@1:00 Wow, your dog is gathering kindling! Did you teach that to help out? LOL
Lol no she learned that on her own. She takes big sticks and turns them into little sticks in no time!
wonder dog!
Lol she is pretty wonderful : P thanks
Good one thanks
No problem! Hope this helps people out and keeps them dry lol.
Hi Ryan...What was the name of the tarp you use? Great video!
I use a MEC silicone guide tarp which they don’t make anymore. They just have the scout tarp which used to be the smaller version of the guide but apparently now it’s sold in two sizes. The larger of which is the same size as my tarp. www.mec.ca/en/product/6000-992/Silicone-Scout-Tarp?colour=SQU01
Awesome idea I am terrible at knots! Any idea what bungees those are? Thanks for the video
It’s 1/4” bungee bought from Canadian tire for kayaks. Seems to do the trick on a tarp that size ( 10’x 12’). I’d use bigger bungee for larger tarps and a rope ridge line is never a bad idea. Thanks for watching!
@@ryansroutes1805 I really appreciate it! This is like a revelation lol. Never crossed my mind
No problem. Glad I can help!!
@4:15 Or you could stake it down at that point.
Hi Ryan, where did you get the bungees from? did you buy a bale and cut custom lengths?
I bought a bale from Canadian Tire on sale for cheap then cut them into 4-6’ lengths. Any kayak retailer should have some to sell though. Since kayak rigging is what this bungee is intended for. Hope that helps you out!
What did you use to cut ?
Fun fact. 99% of the British army use bungees on their ponchos/tarps.
That is a fun fact, thanks for sharing!
AKA the Basha! :)
What kind of knot do you use to to tie on your S-Biner to the bungie?
I’m actually not sure what it’s called, I use it for fishing lures sometimes. Put the end of the bungee through the carabiner wrap it around itself a few times leaving some slack then pass the end of the bungee through the loops and tighten down.
@@ryansroutes1805 Thanks, I'll look up knots and see if there is a good one for this application...cheers
@@FLHR97 no problem! Sorry I couldn’t be more help, I tried to look it up and find a diagram but couldn’t find the exact knot for yah. All I found was a couple that were similar.
With just a little more training, the dog will be able to set up your tarp while you drink your beer.
Lol if that is at all possible I will try! She’s pretty good at turning sticks into kindling lol
hate dogs on campin vids.. ther alllways under n in the way n wrong pl...lose the dog...i see the poor fool sets his bag inside tent n thers the dog on top of bag ugh..now smells like dog pound
