- In this video I’m going to tear apart the rear end in this machine I went up to Traverse City to purchase for parts but I’ve decided to rebuild it. If you have any questions or comments leave them in the box below or send me an email. And as always work safe have fun and keep on Snappen. Jim
Snapper are like Toyota they just keep going and going.
Could you do a video on the history of rear engines? I have a number of these, years and sizes. Yet I have no idea how to find what they need to be fixed up. Labels are gone so everything is by look. Google to help with learning is a rabbit hole that I end up down for days. I'm sure being shown and taught would take a lot less time. Thx
Thanks for the video Jim I grew up on snappers and have owned many throughout the years
Well thanks for watching and I hope you’re a subscriber it helps me. Thanks Jim

@@jimjackson9381 Yessir I have been a subscriber for a long time. Grew up on a snapper, guess you could say they are in my blood. Thanks again for the content
Jim well explained thks
You’re welcome Steve take care of yourself talk to you soon. Jim
Jim, I have a 28" turtle snapper. No bag assy for it so I bought a Troy built dually bagger for. 30". In process of installing. Need to get some stuff fabbed on the back to mount the bagger. Plastic part... "fits" when u mod it slightly and drill some holes in the deck. Once finished I'll send some pics
I would really appreciate that and maybe a explanation of what you had to do because I do have other viewers with the same issue, thanks. Jim
@@jimjackson9381 Yeah, no problem, i'll make a vid and put it up. I'm trying to document my steps.
@@ericensley2427 If you do a video on your installation and send it to my email which is

I’ll upload it to my RUclips channel for you , make sure to show yourself and mention your name in the video. Jim
@@jimjackson9381 Do you have a recommendation for a blade? Still not done, waiting on my welder buddy to help me finish the final fab.
@@ericensley2427 You shouldn’t have any trouble getting a 28 inch blade for your machine I buy them from my local dealer and you should be able to find them on Amazon or eBay but watch what you buy from eBay they don’t always send you what you want, let me know if you can’t find one. Jim
I hope you will not stop working on Snappers Jim. You are my Master Mechanic on RUclips. I am sorry to hear of the low subscribers for the programming. Your channel and programming is just first class. Hope you "KEEP ON A SNAPIN". Thank you for your time too. VF
Well that’s good to hear and I’m glad I’m helping the people that I am, and I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon and thank you for being a subscriber.
@@jimjackson9381 I hope that this is the year I can show you my snapper four by four machine. Just hope this will happen soon. You are the man who helped me so much that I just have to say "YOU ARE THE MAN FOR SURE". I have to give credit where credit is due. Good day Jim, the SNAPPER MAN.
I just got a snapper 28 inch high vac with a snow blade for hundred fifty bucks. Like new and just needs some love. Used two years and did not cut the grass correctly cause the wrong belt and adjustment was made. 12 HP I am working on making this my snow pusher this year. This is all because of your videos Jim. Thanks a bunch. VF

@@jimjackson9381 I did as you stated on one of your videos. I have you Jim to thank. V
Happy New Year, Jim! That drive train really had some damage to it. Good job.
Hey Jim its Warren. Make some room over there my collection is up for sale as a whole. There's enough tractors for another 1000 videos.

@@jimjackson9381 my son and I feel in love with mini bikes and go karts and even though I love rebuilding these snappers the mini bikes are going like hot cakes. It's a sport that is growing fast or should I say going mainstream because of the internet
Hey Jim maybe the one housing that had a wear hole in the casing put all the weight on the smaller good casing that may have caused more pressure on that bearing that was hard to come apart? Just guessing , I've never taken any Snapper housing apart on my rer or my s/p walk behinds , All I've ever used is 80W90 gear oil in them never used the 00 grease thank goodness,Thanks for the video SNAPPOUT.
Yep its hard to beat a oil bath for lubrication
I think the hole on that one side is for the grease gun. because there is a grease fitting on that bushing.
Actually most people use it to get a screwdriver on the clamp holding a boot on
I'm not sure that the Snapper lube isn't supposed to be that way. In the parts manual I have it says "grease". When you think about it, those components don't spin very fast and regular gear oil might be too light to get slung up onto everything. It could be that you need something more akin to wheel bearing grease. I don't know this for a fact, it's just speculation,
I wish i had ur knowledge with snappers i have one she needs some TLC just dont have the heart to sell her but dont have the time to work on her
Well for starters you do have the knowledge that I have of snappers, all you need to do is email me and as far as fixing your machine where do you live I work on all kinds of machines. Jim
Hey Jim.. can you tell us about the wooden things on the shelf behind you that look like little building archways?
Just all my samples and patterns for the toys I build
have you talked to your local snapper dealer lately about the snapper rear engine rider? I tried contacting snapper and they tell me "contact your local dealer".
Jim, Just bought a 2018 snapper mower, and when I put it in "gear" and let off the break/clutch, there is a lag from foot totally off the break/clutch to when the mower lurches and starts to move. Is that just slop in the drive system, or is there something going on with the clutch? Never owened a snapper before. last riding mower I owned was a 85' rear engine craftsman with a manual geared trasmission. We actually used that to move my ol' mans 21' deep V boat wound, and worked like a champ... I don't think the snapper will move much with that friction drive.
Well I don’t know how many of my videos you have watched or if you are a subscriber but if you indeed did buy a 2018 machine it will be one of the last I called the turtles in 2019 they came back out with the original classic machine, if you can stand your machine up carefully if it is a turtle they are extremely front heavy and they like to tip over very easy you want to have it in neutral and turn the clutch disc by hand and see how many times you have to turn it to make the tires turn, I would start by watching video number 70 and tighten your yoke spring and see if that helps your issue. Let me know what you find out. Jim
@@jimjackson9381 JIm, thank you. On mine you can not stand them up, it does not have the frame member for that.
Do you know bag kit I need for this model. it is a 7800950-00. I need to climb under it an tighten that spring like in video 70
Thank you again
@@ericensley2427 you must have the body style that I refer to as a turtle, if so I do not have a bagger for that machine. Jim
@jim Jackson Are you going to finish this rebuild?
Yes I plan on it I’ve been a little busy this summer I gotta order up the parts I need and hopefully start getting it back together when I do I will do videos on it thanks for reminding me. Jim

Hi Jim finished rebuilding my 33 inch when I did the chaincase I knew I was probably gonna have a leak because one of the needle bearing was way loose in the cover I just pushed it in by hand to fix that do I need to get new cover or can I do something to the old one
Yes if you can’t press the bearings in the top of the chain case you’ll have to do something to fix that or get a new cover the hub and sprocket in the chain case relies on the edge of the bearing for alignment in the center of the case the positioning of the bearings in the cover is critical if the bearings are loose you won’t know if the bearing has slid out of the chain case because of the boot then the chain will eat a slot through the side of the case and probably will also damage the lower sprocket from the chain riding on its side. Jim
@@jimjackson9381 yea I don't want that to happen I'll take it back apart and get some new covers again thanks a bunch jim
@@andrewoodard8929 What’s the model number of your machine I may have some covers that will fit it. Jim
@@jimjackson9381 331411kve
@@andrewoodard8929 well the schematic doesn’t show me a very good picture of your chain case can you take pictures of both sides of your chain case so I can see what kind of brackets you need on it. Jim
I'm still not sure why anybody would buy one of these machines with so many wear items items. I have an 02 craftsman that I bought brand new and have only replaced blades, belts and tie rods, plus oil changes. If I had to teardown one of these things and rebuild it every few years It would become scrap fast!
Well for starters the machines that I work on our machines that have been abused and miss used for a lot of years when I first got a snapper I did some work to it I took care of it once a year clean oiled greased and I ran at Machine for over 20 years and never had an issue with it including the original engine, now it’s the one I use for my model you just have to take care of stuff And it will last not to mention the snapper is the only machine on the market today or back when mine was originally made that will pick up anything that you run over I have not found a lawnmower yet that has a vacuum power and bag ability then a snapper does, see what you like but if you got one and took care of it you would never get rid of it. Jim
Your views have gone down because of the microphone you are using. It is so loud when you toss bolts in the bucket.
No offense meant, but your viewing has dropped because your video’s are repetitive. No new content, really…and no more Pepsi bottle?
Thank you Freddy you actually helped confirm my thoughts I’ve been having for the last 4 to 6 months and I actually used your comment in my recent video I guess it’s time to change gears and start getting back into my metalworking and woodworking so again thanks I appreciate your comments. Jim
