      06:57 There is not a single case recorded of forced Sati-Pratha in Bharat before you Britishers arrived...
      satis were a spiritually high women in the society and those women were considered as goddess of society.
      how can you forget to mention about Witch Hunt which was widely practiced in whole Europe & you were warning the girls and women of your Society on the name of a Witch Hunt... Britishers recorded nearly 5,000 to 6,000 cases from India of Sati-Pratha & more than 5,000 cases were recorded from West Bengal....
      West Bengal was under rule of East India Company but how can you forget to mention about more than 50,000 women were burned alive only in Germany forget about rest of the Europe and everything was supported by churches and it was widely practiced in whole Europe in 18th century but nobody can speak about it
      in the Rigveda there is the famous funeral hymn and that has been used by critics of Hinduism to say Sati was made mandatory and obligatory from Vedic times but what does this "Funeral Hymn" say...?
      इमा नारीरविधवाः सुपत्नीराञ्जनेन सर्पिषा संविशन्तु | अनश्रवो.अनमीवाः सुरत्ना आ रोहन्तु जनयोयोनिमग्रे || (RV 10.18.7)
      This funeral Hymn addresses a widow it tells her that sit next to the dead body of the man moisten your eyes with ghee and then get up and resume your place in the World.
      now it's interesting that the word "Agre" is earlier was replaced by the word "Agneh" that is fire...
      "Orginal Shloka"
      "Edited by British"
      इमा नारीरविधवाः सुपत्नीराञ्जनेन सर्पि संविशन्तु | अनश्रवो.अनमीवाः सुरत्ना आ रोहन्तु "जनयोयोनिमग्ने" || (RV 10.18.7)
      so when did this take place..? was it deliberately done...? to convey an impression that Hindu Religious scriptures made it obligatory for a woman to commit Sati...
      Ramayan Burst False Narrative about presence of Sati-Pratha in ancient times... it's very clear in the Ramayan that none of the widows of Raja Dashrath Immolates, nor does any Widow of Ravana Immolates. so in the Ramayan it is very clear that there is no instance of Sati in the family of Dashrath or Ravan's Family

He was gay and was imprisoned for sometime because of the colonial era british law section 377 in the penal code (which is still in vogue in india basically we inherited the british penal code) which made all unnatural sex acts criminal.

    As per mythology/legends of old : Sati was daughter of Prajapati Daksh and first wife of Shiva. Daksha organized a Yajna but didn't invite Shiva because he didn't like him. Sati took offense to it- she went there and jumped in the alter of fire made to perform yajna. Story goes on how Lord Shiva got angry when he learned about her death. Somehow Lord Vishnu was able to calm him down. Later Sati is said to have reincarnated as Parvati- that's where the word Sati comes from.
    There are a few of incidents mentioned in Mahabharat where a woman accompanied her dead husband in to funeral pyre. But it was not regular.
    Now during medieval period Rajput women from warrior families, started committing self immolation to avoid enslavement, kidnapping and rapes at the hands of invaders more regularly. - three incident of mass suicide in Chittor alone. Muslim historians used word Jauhar for the act. But these women themselves were equated with 'Sati' and thus the word became common for such women and then the custom itself was named Sati by the time of British and since.
    It became a bigger problem in later years. While the medieval royal women may have more solid reason to choose death relatively, later on it turned in to a more common custom in many Rajput families just to prove own virtue and spread in other other higher castes, especially among Bramins. It became a short cut to glorify oneself in a round about way if a widow in the family was seen so virtuous to follow husband in death. It also meant not having to take care of her financially as a widow had life interest in a joint family or could inherit husband's property in divided one. Thus the exploitation. Theoretically it must have been widow's choice but if in-laws wanted her out of picture they would force her somehow anyway.
    During British period some Indian reformists stated the movement to abolish this custom and British helped by making laws against it.

      Sati (Godess) never jumped in alter of fire(yajna).
      Sati Practice which is followed in india ,for widow was later created purposely and as nothing to do with old stories.
      Many people link it to sati and daksh scenario, which is wrong.
      While in the case of sati(goddess) .she was not a widow.Mahadev never died.
      Even firegod(agni dev) also get his source of fire from godess adi parashakti(sati was one of the incarnation of Aadi parashakti) .
      It is said that even firegod can not burn sati, bcaz she is goddess.
      Shakti represent nature.All the fire, water god energy are depend on her energy. Shakti is pure energy.
      Sati uses her own energy to burn her previous body(which is in human form) , bcaz she doesn't want to live as daughter of daksh,and reincarnated as Parvati in next incarnation.
      Doesn't understand why people linked it to godess sati.
      Important thing no one forced Godess sati to do that.
      infact godess sati was not even widow,she was married.
      These rituals has nothing to do with goddess sati and daksh.
      People purposely used goddess sati named for this stupid rituals, jst to defame goddess.
      Even before british,
      Bharat(India) as always, invaded by too many outsiders people by many times. Invaders have always used their mind to defame other beliefs, religion and created many such rituals, which was never present in ancient Bharat.
      Many invaders even tried to destroy previous culture, temples of jain, buddhist, hindus and tried to convert people.
      Many of them misinterpreted the real stories of jain, buddhist and hindus religions
      same info has misleaded in generation of thousand yrs and people even started to follow this things by calling them rituals (in the society) in the name of religion.
      Talking about mahabharat and even Ramayana also has different version and book, from different parts in india and even other countries.
      Many of them does not have exact stories as it was happened in the thousand of yrs ago.

    Sati is a practice women engaged in involving self-immolation upon the death of the husband. At first it must have been a voluntary wartime practice so the women could avoid being raped by an invading army if their husband died. Its contextual origin was misunderstood by subsequent generations and instead of being applied only in wartime to avoid rape you found women being forced into it when there was really no need.

They were the ones who forced us to perform acts like "sati" and "jauhar" inorder to escape brutality of being enslaved by them and raped by them and losing ones dignity - much more valuable than life.

      Actually the practice of sati continued in many parts of India until it was banned in 1829 which is not so long ago. Also the widow did not always willingly jump into the husband's pyre. It was probably most horrific in Bengal, where the widow was literally forced to burn in her husband's pyre.

    Sati is a practice where widows eneter the funeral pyre along with their dead husbands and immolate themselves.
    Rauf lala was a pakistani comedian who was very famous in india too.
    Some of the jokes were very subtle, like when the britisher walks in finds that the indian is before time. It is referencing the general tardiness of the people in india.! For eg. If it says the event starts at 7 pm in india you can safely assume it will start around 7.30 pm - 7.45 pm. It was taking a dig at that.
    The british rule of india was pretty ruthless, now in hindsight we do comedy about it, but at that time it was really bad.

    Sati phase: A practice in India in which a widow was burnt alive in the cremation fire of her dead husband. This practice was a culmination of similar ancient practice prevalent mainly in the 'kshatriyas' or the warrior communities where after defeat of one community, the widows of the warriors used to sacrifice themselves fearing rape and oppression from the enemy invaders who had defeated their kin's community. Over time the practice got entrenched into the societal values of the geographical region of India and was twisted by superstitious groups into a tradition called the sati. Perhaps 'Sati' was the name of the first woman to have scrificed herself hence the name. But I might be wrong about sati being 1st sacrifice though.

    Sati. the practice of sati has gone through an evolution. (its long but if you really want to know)
    earliest idea of sati was. when a husband died the wife used to lay beside the husband's body that was on a pyre. A ritual used to be done and then she would "GET UP AND WALK AWAY" and she could marry again if she wanted to. It was symbolic way to say your relationship with your husband ends now over as ur husbands body is burnt. i am talking 1000BC.
    Scriptural Proof of the ritual: The ancient and sacred Atharvaveda, one of the four Vedas, believed to have been composed around 1000 BCE, describes a funerary ritual where the widow lies down by her deceased husband, but is then asked to descend, to enjoy the blessings from the children and wealth left to her.
    Claims about the mention of sati in Rig Veda.
    उदीर्ष्व नार्यभि जीवलोकं गतासुमेतमुप शेष एहि |
    हस्तग्राभस्य दिधिषोस्तवेदं पत्युर्जनित्वमभि सम्बभूथ || (RV 10.18.8)
    Rise, "come unto the world of life", O woman - come, he is lifeless by whose side thou liest. Wifehood with this thy husband was thy portion, who took thy hand and wooed thee as a lover (wiki)
    in fact, if you go far enough you will realize it was an Indo-European practices. the Andronovo cultures 1800-1400 BC used to bury their women along with their husbands. there were many graves found where a man and a woman's bodies were buried together. The practice was never strictly observed and was symbolic most of the times. There were also ancient Greek and some Gremanic tribes who performed this. also, Thracians in southeast Europe, and some tribes of Tonga and Fiji islands. Since we all stem from a commons source (indo-europeans), its interesting to see how customs and practices evolve. It's also interesting to note, the many wives of these aristocracies used to fight to die along with their husbands.
    400AD: Then it became a ritual in 'some' parts of India. All of India never followed sati. from some documented sources it was done by some clans in the west and east. to say every Hindu woman did that would be preposterous. The prestige of family also gave a boost to this practice. so a family could say, look how devoted she was to her husband, she performed sati. haah such a devoted perfect wife. and hence it became forced in many cases. Keep in mind it was only meant for Aristocracy not regular people.
    then we come to 1300 AD. here it gets complicated. people started confusing Sati and Juhar. Juhar was done by the royalty and her maidens and most women, so that they would not fall into the hands of muslims and get raped or be slaves etc.
    British period. the British didn't care much about sati. it was only when hindu reformers started a movement and went to the British to sign on a law abolishing sati that it became illegal. If they cared about sati they would have done it much earlier.

    @10:20, Sati was an ancient tradition of India, where after the death of the Husband, the wife had to burn herself down in the burning grave of her man.
    Now its seems ridiculous but not long ago it was the part of Hindu tradition.
    When brirish arrived with Armour and suited clothes,
    Indian women were self imolated.
    F.Y.I No one was forced to, they would devote themselve to not live after their husbands death.
    In case someome would deny it, none were physically punished, but rather socially evicted. They had to live a solitaire life or had rights to mistress.
    Yet British governments cruelty during indian famine, salvery, proxy wars, 300% tax imposition etc could not hide from the good deeds like abolition of sati system and child married, industrialization etc.

    Hello Daniel and Gian. At 5:16 in the video, the speech given by that guy might seem like he is praising India and dissing out the British, but actually, those are very sarcastic remarks on several controversies which our present Indian government has been involved with. The "insecure regime" mentioned at 6:02 is actually directed towards our present government. If you want to see more of their political sketches, then do check out AIB : Demonetization Circus.
    You see, AIB has always been a very vocal critic of the unfair government policies. Many people consider them to be left wing supporters or anti-BJP (BJP is the ruling political party in India at present, usually known for their orthodox religious ideology), but actually AIB has dissed every political party which has been in power. They have made fun of Congress (another major political party in India), in their video titled "The day Congress resigned" and "AIB: BJP vs Congress". They also made a parody video on the founder of AAP(a fairly new, but popular political party in India) named, "AIB : Nayak 2".
    Also, apart from making comedy sketches, AIB has actively helped in several social media campaigns, for eg : achieving Net Neutrality in India. They kept spreading awareness regarding Net Neutrality on social media, when Facebook partnered with Reliance to fool people into getting free Internet while eventually aiming to monopolize it. This eventually led to the establishment of Net Neutrality in India.
    Also, AIB is very good at hiding secret messages, puns and sarcastic remarks in their videos. Since, you are Americans, so its only natural that you would miss most of them.
    Apart from that, I really love your reactions. Keep doing the good job. :)

    Okay, now all the reaction videos on youtube seem to be biased towards Indians. All the time, Indians are on the receiving end of these reactions. So, every person who reads this comment should pledge to create reaction videos of US, UK and every other developed country's popular videos and get a million views from the people of those countries. It is sad that people from other countries still do not know how Indians react. Let us spread the love! Peace!!
    (I am sorry if you have already read this comment in another reaction video. I am trying to spread the love! Please spread this message if you feel bad about the people of other countries who are yearning for reaction videos from Indians. Thanks!)

    I just cringed to death when I heard you guys say "Lawrence of Arabia". It was Alan Turing who won them the war by cracking the German Enigma COde. But they chemically castrated him for being gay and he eventually committed suicide. Time to hit the history books, boys! this is embarrassing!

    Others have covered most of what you guys missed, but here are a few other references. Right at the beginning, just before "Echo...echo...echo", the narrator starts saying "Unnis Sau (nineteen hundred) 'errr..."Forty Seven", like he forgot how to say 47 in Hindi (saintaaliss). Lagaan poster says "Lagaan #Never Forget". The poster of the queen says Roop Ki Rani" (Queen of money) and the one of her husband says "Goron Ka Raja" (white people's king). The "There Are No Indians in Restaurant" is in reference to "No Indians and No Dogs Allowed" signs in front of restaurants for whites only under the British (Of course there were plenty of Indian workers in the kitchen and on the Wait staff). The train refers to the British bragging that they at least gave India a railroad before they left. They in fact built it to move troops around the country quickly to quell insurrection and to haul out Indian goods to ports so they could sell the goods and pocket the money. The "proxy wars: India sent 1.5 million vaulanteer soldiers foe WWI (largest volunteer army in the world at the time) and 2.5 million in WWII (new record). The black and white speech portion speech is in reference to the speech Nehru (India's first Prime Minister) gave on 12:01 AM, Aug. 15, 1947, India's Independence Day (one of the stupidest questions I've been asked: "Do they celebrate 4th of July in India). ruclips.net/video/Uj4TfcELODM/видео.html

      @mysteriousbillionaire7349 6 лет назад +1

      Well here you go, I'll give it a shot..try and explain some of the jokes that people outside India may not get or even many Indians..
      When the British guy says, what if they were peacefully protesting the suspension of civil rights, can we shoot them??, It is about an actual event, The Jalianwala Bhag Massacre, where hundreds of peaceful protesters were shot in a garden with only one exit.
      The girl that Pakistan chases after is Malala.
      The speech in the middle where he gets up and says, Enough I will not be like you, I will not divide based on ethnicity, color of the skin, I will not muzzle the media, jail students, or shoot our own civilians etc etc., is mocking Indians ourselves because all of those things eventually did happen after Independence, and the Speech itself is a direct reference to a famous speech called Tryst with Destiny made by India's first prime minister made on the day of our Independence.
      Again with the salt, always with the salt refers to something called Salt Satyagraha or Dhandi March. Basically Indians were not allowed to manufacture anything pre independence and as a form of protest Gandhi and thousands of freedom fighters marched to a place called Dhandi and made salt. Back then, even such basic rights were made illegal to Indians.
      When he says Sati, and widows don't make good fuel. It refers to a barbaric Indian custom called Sati. In many parts of India where when a husband died, the widow also supposedly jumped into the funeral pyre to kill themselves supposedly to show her loyalty, but then when most widows didn't want to kill themselves after their husband's death, thousands were forcefully killed by throwing them into the fire. This practice was abolished by the British.
      The gay guy jailed for saving the world refers to Alan Turing who broke the enigma code which made the allies win WWII.
      When he says please call me Raj. Raj is a common Indian name used in many Bollywood movies, but the word also means regime in Hindi. The British occupation was also called the British Raj or simply the Raj, hence the use here.
      I think everything else from the video most people have understood.

    in Sati ....when the husband was (mostly the high class warrior ) dead...the wife alive was burnt along him..about 60000 women have gone through this throughout history ..as they were considered status symbols and had high possibility of someone exploiting them sexually usually as a sign of dominance or satisfying androgens ...some women did this voluntarily and were considered great but after a period it became a ritual and they were forcibly burnt.... British banned after some Indian leaders took effort to make it recognisable to brit govt ....Aib just wanted to say that India they weren't all black side of spectrum but more on blackish grey side
