The reason a foil Elvish Champion is so cheap compared to the other foils is that 8th edition had a 2 player starter set that contained a foil Elvish champion with the exact same art. There is just a ton of them made compared to other foils

I remember buying two cases of 8th edition for $329 after tax (USD). It came with an ultra pro box. I still have the 8th edition foil wraith of gods & the 8th foil birds of paradise didn’t make it. 8th edition caused so much rift back in the day due to people hating the new card design. A lot of the older guys sold off their collections because they hated the direction magic was going.
I bought a box of 8th edition on release day, got a foil birds of paradise and sold it to the store for a whole other box... because black border birds didn't exist lol
the true way to take CCG card grading differentiation to the next level: white borders and all white card backs. my greasy mitts would get these 8e cards dirty immediately, I can imagine a lot of people playing unsleved back in the day turning the white borders into brown borders.
